ISIS has a good claim to be considered the cruelest and most evil political movement of the 21st century so far. The so-called “JV team” managed to grow at an alarming rate and spread untold cruelty throughout the areas it controlled. However, ISIS is not the only terrorist organization that is a threat to the United States.

Last week, a report was released that detailed how Hezbollah, a terrorist group funded by Iran, recruited at least one sleeper agent in the United States and trained him to surveil FBI facilities and the Army National Guard in New York.

The recruitment of sleeper agents in America is a tactic believed to be used by the Soviets during the Cold War. This presents a new and extremely dangerous threat to the safety of the country.

Islamic Jihad Organization
Hezbollah is an organization funded by Iran; the IJO is the terrorist arm of Hezbollah which is used to spread violence and chaos in Israel and other parts of the world. That’s where Ali Kourani comes into play.

Kourani, a Bronx man, was discovered in June casing high-profile targets in New York. He was allegedly recruited by the IJO as a sleeper agent in the United States and was told by his handler to obtain the security information of important targets.

According to The Daily Beast, Kourani had taken detailed notes of security protocols at John F. Kennedy International airport and surveilled the FBI and Army National Guard in New York City. Kourani told the FBI that he was recruited by IJO because of their interest in obtaining duel-citizen sleeper agents that could be easily activated in an emergency.

A court complaint filed states:

Kourani believes that he was recruited to join the IJO in light of his education and residence in the United States, and in connection with efforts by the IJO to develop ‘sleepers’ who maintained ostensibly normal lives but could be activated and tasked with conducting IJO operations.

Kourani began his training when he was 16-years-old and was allowed to join the terrorist organization due to his family’s alleged connection to high-ranking Hezbollah officials. The complaint explained, “[H]e was permitted to attend because of his family’s connections to a high-ranking Hezbollah official.” He then proceeded to attend a 45-day boot camp in Lebanon and received weapons and military training.

Kourani immigrated to the United States in 2003 and became a citizen in 2009, where he pursued biomedical engineering and obtained an MBA.

It is unclear at this time how many more sleeper agents are in the United States today and what, if any, organizations are actively recruiting more.

This is no a new threat/ However, it is becoming more complicated given the growing adaptability of terror groups around the world. ISIS was technologically savvy and had an impressive propaganda wing in its organization. Terrorist groups are adapting and using technology and old-Soviet strategies in an attempt to by-pass our security.

Logistical Concerns
Hezbollah is the most powerful political force in Lebanon and has been at war with the United States even before Al-Qaeda. The terrorist organization has a long history of attacking U.S. targets including a U.S. Embassy and Marine Barracks in Lebanon, U.S. military barracks in Saudi Arabia, and Jewish targets in Argentina.

The death toll from all of those terrorist attacks is over 400 innocent people.

Hezbollah virtually controls Lebanon and is backed by a strong regional power, Iran. It continues to grow and its strength should not be underestimated.

The United States should shred the so-called “Iran Deal,” place heavy sanctions on Iran, and cut their funding completely until they cease all subsidizing of terror groups around the world.
