Dear all,
Firstly I have some good news to share after a five year campaign and an Ilford Recorder article, Redbridge Council have finally agreed to allow a nativity scene to be placed on Ilford Town Hall steps. Though no church can afford to replace the scene independently we seem to be having more success. The total cost for the Nativity will be £800 and so far we have raised £80 through a chuffed campaign, £100 through a private donor and £50 from Ilford Asian Church and Ilford High Road Baptist Church. We are hoping some of our donors might be willing to help us raise the remaining £580 needed to make Jesus a central focus of our Borough's Christmas celebrations. Even if you don't live locally helping one of our boroughs in the UK retrieve this lost Christian tradition would be a good marker for others to follow suit. We already have a donation from a Canadian Christian, A Hindu from Ilford and an Indonesian Christian in London, Read more (here) https://www.britishpakistanichristians.org/community-projects/bring-baby-jesus-back-to-redbridge

Our Community work is best represented by the work at our community centre. Recently we have purchased insurance that allows us to give free counselling advice to women who have suffered domestic violence and hope to expand the service to include other types of anxiety and depression concerns. A professional Counsellor is volunteering her services for free. Read more (here)

For the first time in three years BPCA brings back Redbridge Christian Festival, a wonderful free concert on Ilford Town Hall steps that will involve performances from Noel Robinson, Diane Ofori and Crown Jules, as well as performances that include a nativity play by a local church. Read more (here). The event will be from 1pm - 3pm on 16th December and you are all cordially invited to join us.

Some more good news for you, is that the Indian pastor arrested in Kuwait has now been set free. Pastor Shibu Mathew is now back with his family in India. Christmas will be tarnished for many Christians in Pakistan and India especially considering a spate of recent brutal attacks that have lowered community morale:

A 6 year old Christian child was brutally shot to death after her father failed to pay the extortionate monthly interest fee owed to a Muslim loan shark. The father and mother are exhibiting extreme trauma and need counselling and financial support while they try to recover from the attack. Our appeal for Maherwar Ishaq is growing slowly but we still need many more donations of we are to help free them from Thailand. We have received just over £1300 in direct donations and our chuffed campaign has yielded £40, though we are a long way off for now, we believe God will help this mother and daughter flee to safety and escape the death threats imposed upon them. Our schools for asylum seeker children in Thailand and Malaysia are growing but we are struggling to improve our resources. We desperately need more donors to help us equip our schools to enhance the learning process for children. If nothing else please send in any spare books and stationary to our offices so that we can forward these to the schools. Learn more (here)

I leave you with a bible verse that pretty much describes the Christmas season.

John 1:14 (NIV)

"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
