Israeli delegation storms out of int’l summit amid vicious attacks, a ‘bad joke’
By: Adina Katz, World Israel News

Israeli delegation storms out of int’l summit amid vicious attacks, a ‘bad joke’Lawmaker Sharren Haskel at IPU summit. (IPU)
A Knesset delegation, facing an onslaught of abuse, stormed out of an international summit after the conference approved a series of anti-Israel proposals.

The Knesset delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s 137th Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia, walked out of Wednesday`s plenary session after the organization approved a series of anti-Israel proposals, including calls for the release of convicted murderers Marwan Barghouti and Ahmad Saadat.

Israel was censured for holding in administrative detention members of the Palestinian National Council representing Hamas. There was no mention of the innocent Israeli civilians being held captive in Gaza by Hamas, which last month refused a request by the International Red Cross to visit them.

The Knesset delegation included Members of Knesset Nachman Shai (Zionist Camp), Sharren Haskel (Likud), Yoseph Yonah (Zionist Camp), Haim Jelin (Yesh Atid) and Knesset Secretary Yardena Meller-Horowitz.

Shai, who headed the delegation, said during the meeting, “I naively thought the organization, like the entire world, is united in combating terror, since terror endangers every country everywhere and at all times. You want to release convicted murderers from prison? I thought you want to fight terror and not assist it, but reality is different.”

He added that Israel is committed to promoting peace with its neighbors, including the Palestinians. However, he stressed, “it will in no way come at the expense of a relentless fight against terror.”

‘This is a Bad Joke’

After a number of delegations, including those from Syria, Pakistan, Jordan, Kuwait and the Palestinian Authority, slammed the Jewish state, the Israeli delegation responded – amid noisy heckling and abuse.

“I think this is a bad joke,” Haskel stated. “Countries like Syria and Iran are hypocritical. They teach Israel what morality is and what human rights are. This organization is supposed to support and strengthen democracy, but in the Palestinian Authority elections have not taken place for over 10 years and anyone under the age of 29 has never voted. What kind of elected representatives are these?”

Marzouq Al-Ghanim, head of the Kuwaiti delegation who had been trying to bar Israel from participating in the conference, ranted against the Israelis, saying the delegation “represents the most dangerous form of terrorism, state terrorism” – to enthusiastic applause.

Israelis Called ‘Child Killers’

Calling the Jewish state a “brutal occupier,” he demanded: “Get out of the hall now if you have an atom of dignity. You occupier, child killers.”

The Israelis did leave, but not because Ghanim told them to do so. Rather, they were protesting the anti-Israel resolutions.

After the meeting, the delegation relayed its objection to outgoing IPU President Saber Chowdhury of Bangladesh, saying that he had today seriously damaged the neutral position of the organization by permitting Arab states to constantly lambast and interrupt the Israeli speakers, and that he himself had not allotted the Knesset delegation the same amount of time given to the others.

Iran is Hitler with nuclear bomb, says former Shin Bet head
October 16, 2017
Iran is Hitler with nuclear bomb, says former Shin Bet headAvi Dichter (Hadas Parush/Flash90)
Imagining Hitler with a nuclear bomb is the best way to understand the Iranian threat, says former Shin Bet head Avi Dichter.
“Iran is a regional superpower. They see themselves not as North Korea, but as the [2,500 year old] historic Persian kingdom. That is their model, that’s what they want to become in our region,” said former Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) head and Member of Knesset Avi Dichter.
Speaking at the 2017 International Christian Media Summit in Jerusalem Monday evening, Dichter, current chairman of Israel’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, explained what he views as Israel’s biggest security challenges with a general briefing about the unique challenges facing Israel in its war on terror. He devoted the bulk of his lecture to speaking about Iran and its nuclear capabilities.
“Over the last 15-20 years, every single development in the Iranian nuclear project was revealed by the Western intelligence services, and not once did Iran put on the table that their plan was to have nuclear bombs”, Dichter said, addressing the fact that Iran has never willingly shared information about its nuclear plans, and that there is no reason to expect them to do so moving forward.
Dichter spoke of two corridors in the Middle East which comprise Iran’s regional strategy: the northern corridor – which consists of Iraq, Lebanon and Syria – all three of which suffer from heavy Iranian involvement in each country’s in-fighting with the help of proxies such as Hezbollah; and the southern corridor – consisting of Oman and Yemen, where Iranian proxies are constantly battling Saudi-backed forces for influence.
Dichter also pointed at Hamas in Gaza as an Iranian proxy, despite the former being Sunni and the latter Shiite.

Palestinian sources reveal terms of Fatah-Hamas unity agreement
October 15, 2017

Various Palestinian sources announced “implied” terms of the unity pact that go far beyond the actual items outlined in the released agreement.
After the announcement last week that Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party and the Hamas terrorist organization had reached a preliminary agreement to jointly rule over Palestinian communities in Judea and Samaria and Gaza, the terms of the pact are coming to light.
The rival factions, who have waged bloody campaigns against each other over the past decade, met in Cairo and drafted a set of principles they claim will guide talks moving forward.
Notably, neither the terms of the preliminary agreement nor statements to the press by named and unnamed Palestinian sources indicated that the agreement would include a recognition of the State of Israel or Hamas’ disarmament, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded prior to the Cairo meeting last week.
Among the primary points of the six-item agreement are Hamas’ plans to cede control of the management of various crossings to Palestinian Authority staff and the coordination of “security services with the relevant parties.”

Arabs brutally beat Jewish residents of Jerusalem’s Old City

Two Jewish victims are recovering from severe injuries after being viciously attacked by an Arab mob.
The area near the Lions’ Gate entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City was the scene of a brutal attack by local Arabs on two Jewish residents. The attack occurred on Monday night when one of the victims left his home in the area to throw out the trash, according to a report by the Honenu legal aid society, which is assisting the victims.
The man was set upon by a group of around 10 Arab attackers who pummeled the victim mercilessly. The Arab attackers also went after a second man, a neighbor who raced to the scene to try to assist the first victim. This man was also severely injured in the melee. While both men were left severely bruised, one of them required treatment at nearby hospital due to a head injury he sustained during the beating.
According to a report by Arutz Sheva, police arrested some of the attackers, who were taken to the Merchav David Station in Jerusalem for questioning. Relatives of one of the victims said that the attack was s tragic reminder or the murder of Rabbi Nehemia Lavi, who was killed near the Lions’ Gate as he attempted to help victims being stabbed by a terrorist. Rabbi Lavi, a resident of the area, was ultimately stabbed to death by the terrorist.

Israel confronts Palestinian ‘unity’ pact with strict diplomatic conditions

October 17, 2017
Israel confronts Palestinian ‘unity’ pact with strict diplomatic conditionsPalestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah (R) with members of the Hamas terrorist organization. (AP)
Israel will not conduct diplomatic negotiations with a Palestinian government that relies on the Hamas terrorist organization, unless it ceases its traditional mode of operations.
After representatives of the Palestinian Fatah faction and the Hamas terrorist organization signed a preliminary pact laying the groundwork for a “unity” government, bringing to an end over 10 years of vicious infighting, the Israeli security cabinet issued a clear set of operating criteria with which any Palestinian ruling body must comply if it seeks diplomatic relations with the Jewish state.
To that end, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced, “Pursuant to previous decisions, the Government of Israel will not conduct diplomatic negotiations with a Palestinian government that relies on Hamas, a terrorist organization that calls for the destruction of Israel, as long as it does not fulfill the following conditions.”
Among the aforementioned conditions outlined by the security cabinet is the requirement that Hamas recognize Israel and “desist from terrorism,” which reflects previous demands issued by the Mideast Quartet.
Israel called upon the PA itself to act against Hamas terror infrastructures in Judea and Samaria, and served Hamas with an ultimatum to sever its ties with Iran.
More fundamentally, the Israeli government has demanded that Hamas be disarmed, echoing requests from Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas, who presented this demand as a precondition to any unity government. To date, Hamas has signaled that it has no intentions of disarming.

Israel has advanced plans for the construction of some 1300 new homes in Judea and Samaria.
The Israeli Defense Ministry, the body responsible for authorizing construction in Judea and Samaria, on Tuesday approved and advanced plans for some 1,300 housing units throughout the region.
Times of Israel reported that the Civil Administration’s High Planning Subcommittee also approved another 296 homes to be marketed for sale in Beit El, thus fulfilling a promise made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to replace homes razed there in 2012.
The 1,292 units include 146 in Nokdim in Judea, 97 in Rehelim in Samaria, 55 in Tomer, and 27 in Maskiot in the Jordan Valley.
In Gush Etzion, south of Jerusalem, 344 units were advanced for Kfar Etzion and 68 for Elazar.
Beit El Mayor Shai Alon hailed this new development.

“Iran has threatened and continues to threaten the world … butcher[ing] innocent people,” warned Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon.
As the United Nations Security Council convened Wednesday for its first meeting on the “Situation in the Middle East” following US President Donald Trump’s change of course regarding American policy on Iran, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, presented a litany of the Islamic Republic’s crimes in the region and across the globe.
Danon presented an “indictment” of Iran, charging the top state sponsor of terror with a number of destabilizing policies. Danon identified several Islamic terror organizations that threaten Israel, noting, “The Iranian Ayatollahs sponsor Hezbollah’s war chest, Hamas’ budget of bloodshed, and Islamic Jihad’s terror funds.”
Specifically addressing the Iranian nuclear deal with the US and other western nations, Danon declared, “Iran seeks to destroy Israel by any means necessary. It has tried to obtain nuclear capabilities for years. Today, the regime’s intentions are no different than before.”
“For thirty-eight years, Iran has threatened and continues to threaten the world. Iran and its proxies butcher innocent people. When terror strikes, a trail of bloody footprints so often traces back to Iran. From Bangkok to Burgas, from Buenos Aires to Beirut, and all the way back to Tehran,” Danon declared to the Council.
Danon presented the following four “charges,” specifying that “Iran is guilty of sponsoring and endorsing worldwide terror, violating human rights, promoting antisemitism and seeking to destroy a UN member state – the State of Israel.”
Delving into the Iran’s actions in Syria, a nation torn apart by civil war, Ambassador Danon reminded the UN, “Iran has armed Bashar Al-Assad, the butcher of Damascus. Without Iranian support, the Assad regime would have failed in its evil mission to murder its own people.”

A Palestinian terrorist attempted to blow up a military court in Samaria.

A Palestinian terrorist attempted to blow up a military court in Samaria on Sunday, but Israeli forces securing the compound were successful in thwarting the attack.

The terrorist arrived at the courthouse and when he attempted to enter the compound the metal detector went off. A search of his clothing revealed he was carrying a pipe bomb.

The court was shut down, while sappers were alerted to the scene and safely dismantled the explosive charge.

A similar incident occurred in May.

The foiled terrorist attack occurred against the backdrop of a newly hatched Palestinian “unity” pact between warring factions Fatah and the Hamas terrorist organization. Among the sticking points in the agreement are demands that Hamas cease it’s direction of violent attacks against Israelis.

Netanyahu backs Greater Jerusalem bill to annex surrounding towns

October 3, 2017
Netanyahu backs Greater Jerusalem bill to annex surrounding townsPM Benjamin Netanyahu in Ma'ale Adumim. (Hadas
Netanyahu again expressed his support for a bill that strengthens Jerusalem and its environs.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday expressed his support for legislation that calls for the incorporation of towns surrounding Jerusalem into the Israeli capital, essentially annexing them in the process.
While visiting the city of Ma’aleh Adumin, which would fall under the purview of the bill, Netanyahu again expressed his support for the bill while announcing a massive construction project which includes thousands of housing units in the city.
“Ma’ale Adumim is part of the state of Israel. It will always be part of the state of Israel,” Netanyahu declared during a special faction meeting of his Likud party held in the city.
“I support the Greater Jerusalem bill, which will enable Jerusalem and its environs to develop in many aspects. This is important news,” he stated. ”
The Greater Jerusalem Law would incorporate Givat Ze’ev to the northwest of Jerusalem as well Beitar Illit and the Etzion bloc of communities, which are situated southwest of Jerusalem, and Ma’aleh Adumim, into Jerusalem’s municipal boundaries – thus creating a greater metropolitan area and, in effect, annexing 19 Israeli communities, which serve as home to some 150,000 Israelis.
The bill also proposes turning Arab villages in the area that lie outside the security barrier into an independent municipality within Greater Jerusalem.
Netanyahu has previously expressed support for the legislation.

Netanyahu and Rivlin expressed condolences to the American people on behalf of all Israelis over the largest mass shooting in US history.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday issued his condolences to the American people following the massacre of 58 and the wounding of hundreds at a country music concert in Las Vegas.
“Las Vegas and the American people experienced a day of horror; the hearts of the people of Israel go out to the scores of innocent people murdered in cold blood. Our hearts go out also to the hundreds who are wounded; we pray for their speedy recovery. The people of Israel stand with the people of America this time and anytime, but especially in this time. We will overcome, together,” Netanyahu stated.
President Reuven Rivlin sent a letter to President Donald Trump expressing deepest sympathy on behalf of the people of Israel.
“The people of Israel join me in sending our deepest sympathy to you, to the participants in the festival, the people of Las Vegas and to all the people of the United States following this shocking attack which took the lives of so many innocent people and injured so very many more,” Rivlin wrote.
Israel “stands with you as you mourn the terrible loss of life and injury following this senseless attack on people who had merely gathered together to listen to music,” he added.
The Tel Aviv municipality lit up Monday night with the US flag in solidarity with the American people.
The murderer, Stephen Craig Paddock, 64, sprayed automatic fire into the concert-goers from his 32nd floor hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across the street from the concert. Paddock is dead. Over 500 were injured in the worst mass shooting in modern US history.

The Jewish diaspora leadership is misreading today’s European political map and the changing winds of anti-Semitism.
By: Daniel Krygier, Political Analyst, World Israel News
Since the end of World War 2, Jews have understandably kept a watchful eye on anti-Semitism and extremism emanating from the political right. Historically, many Jews in exile tended to identify with the political left that was often seen as more sympathetic towards religious and ethnic minorities like Jews.
The surging German right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has been widely demonized by the European political elite and Jewish diaspora leadership as “racist” and even “Nazi.”
Ron Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, did not mince his words of disapproval following last week’s national election, when the AfD managed an entry into Parliament.
“It is abhorrent that the AfD party, a disgraceful reactionary movement which recalls the worst of Germany’s past and should be outlawed, now has the ability within the German parliament to promote its vile platform,” Lauder stated. Similar sentiments were heard among German Jewish leaders.

New York’s congressional delegation is urging Secretary of State Tillerson to deport a former guard at the Trawniki Nazi concentration camp.
New York’s entire congressional delegation has written a letter urging Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to deport a former Nazi concentration camp guard who currently lives in Queens.
The letter argues 94-year-old Jakiw Palij should be deported from the US.
The New York Daily News reports that in a rare display of unity, the letter was signed by all 29 members of Congress representing New York, both Democrats and Republicans.
Department of Justice officials say Palij was a guard at the Trawniki concentration camp in Poland in 1943. Palij claimed in 2003 that he was forced to be a guard.
All the Jewish prisoners of Trawniki were massacred during Operation Harvest Festival of November 3, 1943, by the auxiliary units of Trawniki men.
A federal judge removed Palij’s citizenship in 2003, saying he falsified his immigration application when he claimed that he was a farmer during WWII.
In August, 21 members of New York’s US House delegation wrote a similar letter to Tillerson, urging him to expedite Palij’s deportation

Israeli Minister: Israel Must Stop Serving as ATM for Palestinian Terror
October 3, 2017
Israeli Minister: Israel Must Stop Serving as ATM for Palestinian TerrorEducation Minister Naftali Bennett (Yonatan Sindel/Flash90)
Israel’s education minister said Israel must stop transferring tax payments to the Palestinian Authority following its move towards unity with the Hamas terror group.
Minister of Education Naftali Bennett, a member of the Security Cabinet, on Tuesday demanded that the cabinet immediately vote to stop the transfer of taxes Israeli collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority (PA) after its move towards unity with the Hamas terror group as well as its ascension to Interpol last week, a move Israel viewed as diplomatic belligerence on the Palestinians’ behalf.
“Israel should cease to serve as an ATM for terrorism,” Bennett stated, explaining that the reconciliation isn’t about Palestinian unity, “it’s about Abu Mazen [PA head Mahmoud Abbas] joining forces with a murderous terror group.”
“Transferring funds to the Hamas government is like transferring funds from Israel to ISIS [the Islamic State terror group]. We will receive missiles [fired by Hamas] in return for those funds,” Bennett warned.
Israel, which collects taxes for the PA as part of the Oslo Peace Accords, has frozen PA assets several times in the past in retaliation for anti-Israel actions.

PA prime minister visits Gaza to initiate power transfer from Hamas

PA prime minister visits Gaza to initiate power transfer from HamasHamas leader in the Gaza Strip Yahya Sinwar (L), Head of Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh (C), Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah (2-R) (AP/Prime Minister Office)
The Palestinian Authority and Hamas have commenced their reconciliation process. Will this further hamper opportunities for peace with Israel?
Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah arrived in the Gaza Strip Monday for the first time since 2014, as the PA and its rival, the Hamas terror group which rules Gaza, initiated the first steps in forming a unity government.
Hamdallah’s visit is intended as the first symbolic move towards transferring custodianship of the coastal territory from Hamas to the PA.
Upon arrival, Hamdallah and his 30-vehicle motorcade were greeted by Hamas members as well as members of the PA’s ruling party, Fatah. A crowd of 2,000 people gathered to hear the senior PA official deliver an address.
“The only way to statehood is through unity,” Hamdallah said. “We are coming to Gaza again to deepen the reconciliation and end the split.”
“The government began to exercise its roles in Gaza from today,” he said, praising Hamas for agreeing to hand over governance of the territory to the PA, and lauding Egypt for mediating the reconciliation deal.
This is by far the most ambitious attempt at Palestinian reconciliation since Hamas violently seized power of the coastal strip from Fatah in 2007, leaving the Palestinians torn between rival governments. Hamas has ruled Gaza, while Abbas’ party has controlled autonomous enclaves in the Judea and Samaria area.
The latest move towards Palestinian reconciliation comes after months of economic and political pressure applied by the PA against Hamas, including the PA’s decision to significantly cut its subsidization of Gaza’s electricity bill and stop paying salaries of government workers and former prisoners in Gaza.
Conditions in Gaza have deteriorated greatly in a decade of Hamas rule. Gaza has fallen deeper into poverty, unemployment is estimated at over 40 percent, Gaza’s 2 million residents are virtually barred from traveling abroad, and residents have electricity for only a few hours a day.

Several Hezbollah terrorists were killed in Syria. It is still unclear who carried out the strike.
At least eight Hezbollah terrorists were killed in a drone attack while fighting alongside Assad’s forces in the eastern Syrian Desert.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Monday a drone of unknown affiliation struck a position of the Lebanese terrorist group, which is fighting alongside government forces in the Homs province.
A Hezbollah official confirmed the attack but could not confirm the toll. The official was not authorized to speak to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Reports say the senior Hezbollah field commanders were among the casualties.
Hezbollah and other pro-government and Iran-backed forces are battling the Islamic State (ISIS) group in eastern Syria. Hezbollah has incurred heavy losses while fighting for Bashar al-Assad and Iranian interests in Syria.
Some reports say that the US Air Force flew the strike mission. According to others, Russian “friendly fire” cannot be rule out as a possibility.
A spokesman of the US-led coalition said the location of the strike was outside its area of operations.

Leading up to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan is reportedly consulting with Israel for assistance with counter-terrorism efforts at the global sporting event.
Japanese security and intelligence officials recently visited Israel to attend an international conference on dealing with Islamic terrorism that was facilitated by the Israel Police’s Operational Directorate, Israel Hayom reported.
“The world can learn a great deal from our experience with terrorism,” a senior police official told the Israeli newspaper. “But today there is also a lot we can learn from the rest of the world.”
According to the Israel Police, Japanese security forces currently lack expertise in Arabic, and with a greater understanding of the language, Japan could better address hostage situations and monitor communication between Muslim terrorists.
Japan and Israel signed a bilateral investment treaty in February to strengthen their diplomatic and trade ties. Israeli Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon and Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida inked the pact—negotiated between Jerusalem and Tokyo from May 2015 to December 2016—during a ceremony at the Finance Ministry in Jerusalem.

Hamas and the PA suppress freedom of the press and prosecute journalists who expose their corruption.
A Palestinian journalist who exposed corruption in the Gaza Strip was prosecuted by Hamas, the terrorist group that governs the enclave, veteran Palestinian affairs correspondent Khaled Abu Toameh reported last week.
In June 2016, Hajer Harb reported that Hamas and the Palestinian Authority (PA) extorted Palestinians seeking medical care in Israel, Europe and elsewhere in the Arab world. Both Hamas and the PA, along with doctors who collaborated with them, demanded bribes from Palestinian patients seeking permits for better medical treatment. The report charged that those who didn’t pay the bribes were “left to die in understaffed and under-equipped Palestinian hospitals.”
The leaders of the PA and Hamas were furious with the investigative report that exposed what some Palestinians referred to as the “mafia of destruction.”
After Harb’s report was published, Hamas official called her for an interrogation but she refused to reveal her sources without a court order.
“The prosecution told me that I was facing the following charges: impersonation of another person (they claim I did not reveal my real identity during the investigative report); slandering the Ministry of Health, publishing inaccurate and incorrect information and working with ‘foreign parties’ (by preparing a report for a London-based television station under the pretext that the media organization is not registered with the Press Office in the Gaza Strip),” Harb recalled.
Ironically, Abu Toameh reported that Harb herself required a permit to seek medical treatment for cancer in Jordan. However, human rights groups intervened on her behalf and she did not have to pay a bribe to get the permit.
While she was abroad, she was sentenced by a Hamas court to six months in prison and fined 1000 shekels ($250). If and when Harb returns to Gaza she will be arrested and jailed.
Critics have condemned Hamas for attempting to silence a journalist.

US college bans use of name of anti-Semitic founder

US college bans use of name of anti-Semitic founder1899 portrait of Bryn Mawr founder M. Carey Thomas, by John Singer Sargent (Wikicommons)

A Bryn Mawr founder “openly and vigorously advanced racism and anti-Semitism as part of her vision of the college,” and therefore the use of her name by the college has been put on moratorium.
Bryn Mawr, a women’s liberal arts college in Philadelphia, announced that it will enact a one-year suspension on using the name of one of its founders, Martha Carey Thomas, a noted anti-Semite.
In an open letter last month, college president Kim Cassidy said that the violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville earlier this month that ended in the death of a 32-year-old woman influenced the decision in favor of the moratorium.
Cassidy wrote that the events of the past month “continue to be profoundly disturbing to me. Many of you have said that you share this feeling. The views and actions of neo-Nazis, the KKK, and white supremacist and xenophobic groups are antithetical to the values we strive to embrace at Bryn Mawr.”
“We join many across the country in thinking about how to address institutional histories shaped by racism and anti-Semitism. In this context, many of you have suggested that we confront the objectionable beliefs of one of our founders, M. Carey Thomas—beliefs still so poignantly evident in the recent events of our country. I agree, and I know that many others do as well,” she explained.
Thomas actively worked to bar Jews from entering Bryn Mawr, both as faculty members and as students.
Pointing to Thomas’ significant contributions in the field of women’s education, Cassidy stated that she decided to enact the moratorium for the coming academic year “while the issue is taken up” by an internal working group.
“While Thomas had a profound impact on opportunities for women in higher education, on the academic development and identity of Bryn Mawr, and on the physical plan of the campus, she also openly and vigorously advanced racism and anti-Semitism as part of her vision of the College,” Cassidy said.
Furthermore, “No solution is ideal, but my hope is that by fully acknowledging Thomas’ legacy of racism and anti-Semitism through this action, we will grant the community time for discernment: serious and thoughtful study, exchange of views, reflection, and action planning about our legacies of exclusion and resistance.”

Report: Egypt caught secretly buying weapons from North Korea

Egypt has been secretly purchasing weapons from North Korea, in breach of UN sanctions, the Washington Post reported.

Egypt has secretly ordered weapons from North Korea in breach of United Nations (UN) sanctions, with the shipment exposed by the US, the Washington Post reported Sunday.
According to the report, a bulk freighter named Jie Shun flying Cambodian colors that had sailed from North Korea was discovered by the US in the Suez Canal in August. Egypt was notified about the suspicious vessel, but it turns out the vessel was intended for them.
The ship was raided, and officials found a cache of more than 30,000 rocket-propelled grenades concealed under 2,300 tons of loose yellow rocks called limonite, a kind of iron ore.
All rounds were for practice, fitted with removable, nonlethal warheads of the type used in military training
It was, as a UN report later concluded, the “largest seizure of ammunition in the history of sanctions against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”
A UN investigation exposed what the Post described as a “complex arrangement” in which Egyptian businessmen ordered millions of dollars worth of North Korean ammunition for the country’s military, while also taking pains to keep the matter concealed.
A private company involved in the shipment was shut down and its license was revoked.
The incident prompted another in a series of intense US complaints over Egyptian efforts to obtain banned military hardware from Pyongyang, the report said. This incident and others have led the Trump administration to freeze or delay nearly $300 million in military aid to Egypt over the summer.

Facebook’s Zuckerberg asks forgiveness on Yom KippurFacebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (AP/Steven Senne)
On the Jewish Day of Atonement, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg sought pardon from all “those [he] hurt this year.”
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a special message on his page in which he asked forgiveness from those he offended in the past year on the occasion of Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
“Tonight concludes Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Jews when we reflect on the past year and ask forgiveness for our mistakes. For those I hurt this year, I ask forgiveness and I will try to be better,” Zuckerberg wrote.
“For the ways my work was used to divide people rather than bring us together, I ask forgiveness and I will work to do better,” he vowed. Zuckerberg expressed his hope that “we all [will] be better in the year ahead, and may you all be inscribed in the book of life.”
Judaism teaches that in order to be forgiven by God for wronging another person, one is required to seek his forgiveness. Jews are thus required to seek, confront, and appease those whom they might have wronged throughout the year.
Yom Kippur is ultimately about change–changing one’s behavior, one’s habits, and one’s values for the better. Yom Kippur is an opportunity to become a better person.
Zuckerberg recently celebrated his Jewish heritage around Rosh Hashanah when he posted, “For Shabbat tonight, we gave Max [his daughter] a kiddush cup that has been in our family for almost 100 years. Her great-great-grandfather Max got it after our family immigrated here and it has been passed down through our family ever since.”

https://worldisraelnews.com/isis-claims-responsibility-france-stabbing/ISIS claimed responsibility for the deadly stabbing attack in Marseille that left two women dead.
A terrorist who stabbed two women to death Sunday at the main train station in the southern French city of Marseille who shouted “allahu akbar!” was an Islamic State (ISIS) “soldier,” ISIS stated while taking responsibility for the attack.
French soldiers shot the man to death after the stabbings and authorities were working to determine if he had links to Islamic terrorism.
Interior Minister Gerard Collomb, who went to Marseille to meet with local authorities and troops on the scene, said police have video that shows the man attacking a woman and running away, then coming back and attacking a second woman.

The video shows the man running toward soldiers who were rushing to Marseille’s St. Charles train station. The soldiers fatally shot him and both women died of their injuries, Collomb said.
Some witnesses reported hearing the terrorist should “allahu akbar,” Collomb said.
Allahu akbar — Arabic for “God is greatest” — is a phrase often used by Muslim terrorists during attacks.

The Paris prosecutor’s office, which oversees all terror cases in France, said it had opened a counter-terrorism investigation into the Marseille attack.
The ISIS-linked Aamaq news agency said in a statement Sunday night that the terrorist was acting in response to ISIS calls to target countries in the US-led coalition fighting ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
The statement did not provide details or evidence of a direct link to the terrorist. France has been part of the anti-ISIS coalition since 2014 and has been repeatedly targeted by ISIS attacks.

Police sources told the Associated Press that one of the victims was stabbed and one had her throat slit. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the investigation.
Collomb declined to provide any details about the terrorist or identify the victims.
French President Emmanuel Macron said he was “deeply outraged” by Sunday’s “barbarous” knife attack. In a tweet, Macron paid tribute to the French soldiers who responded “with cool heads and efficiency.”
The French government this month decided to maintain the military force of 7,000 soldiers that was created to protect sensitive sites after the deadly terror attacks of 2015.

Netanyahu denies Israeli involvement in Kurdish independence vote

Netanyahu responded to conspiracy theories promoted by leaders in Muslim-majority countries that Israel is somehow behind the Kurdish drive for self-determination.

Following a recent referendum on Kurdish independence in northern Iraq, for which Israeli officials voice support, leaders throughout the Middle East have launched accusations regarding the Jewish state’s involvement in Kurdish affairs.

Among the leaders who accused Israel of working behind the scenes to aid the Kurds are Turkish President Recep Erdogan and Hassan Nasrallah, head of the Islamic terror group Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Nasrallah accused Israel of supporting Kurdish statehood, describing the independence referendum as “a U.S.-Israeli plot to carve up the region.” Erdogan on Saturday blamed Israeli secret service Mossad for Iraqi Kurdistan’s decision to become independent.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyau responded to these charges, noting, “I understand why those who support Hamas and want to see the Mossad everywhere that is uncomfortable for them, but Israel had no part in the Kurdish referendum, apart from the deep, natural sympathy that the people of Israel have had for many years for the Kurdish people and their aspirations.”

Last month, during his historic trip to Latin America, Netanyahu stated that Israel “supports the legitimate efforts of the Kurdish people to attain a state of its own,” but rejects the PKK’s acts of terrorism committed in the name of Kurdish statehood.

In a direct jab at Turkey, which has been the target of the PKK’s attacks, the statement, issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, said that “Israel rejects the PKK and considers it a terrorist organization, as opposed to Turkey, which supports the terror organization Hamas.”

US Ambassador: Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria ‘part of Israel’

US Ambassador: Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria ‘part of Israel’David Friedman, US Ambassador to Israel (Hillel Maeir/TPS)
Print Email 26 Comments
US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman supports the legal rights of Jewish communities beyond the 1967 boundaries, signaling a fresh approach to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In an expansive interview with Israeli media outlet Walla!, the US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, provided insight into the direction the US envisions for Israel as the Jewish state navigates shifting alliances in the region and its approach to resolving the Palestinian conflict. Among the topics Friedman addressed were Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and the future of the two-state solution.
With regard to the first point, Friedman explained, “I think the settlements are part of Israel,” which “was always the expectation when [UN] Resolution 242 was adopted.” Friedman added, “The 1967 borders were viewed by everybody as not secure. There was always supposed to be some expectation of [Israeli] expansion” into Judea and Samaria.
Friedman referred to the “important nationalistic, historical, and religious significance”of these communities, commenting, “I think the settlers view themselves as Israelis, and Israel views the settlers as Israelis.”
When asked about the prospects for moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem, Friedman reiterated to Walla! that it was a question of “when not if,” and stressed that “most importantly [the US would] recognize Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the state of Israel and of the Jewish people.”

Most Arab Israelis expressed positive attitudes towards the Jewish state, with a mere 13% ranking the Palestinian conflict as their top concern.
Some 60% of Arab citizens of Israel have positive attitudes towards the state and its institutions while 37% said their view was unfavorable to Israel, according to a public opinion survey conducted in August for the Konrad Adenauer Program for Jewish-Arab Cooperation at Tel Aviv University’s Dayan Center.
The poll released Wednesday at a conference at Tel Aviv University on “citizenship identity and political participation among the Arab population” surveyed 876 citizens of Israel and 125 residents of east Jerusalem who have permanent Israeli residency but not citizenship. It had a margin of error of 2.25%.
Arik Rudnitzky, a project manager at the Konrad Adenauer Program, told Tazpit Press Service (TPS) that the conclusion of the research is that the Israeli Arabs feel generally good in Israel, but added that “attitudes toward the institutions of the State of Israel are very critical.”
Rudnitzky noted that half of those surveyed did not view the Knesset as a positive institution and only 35% viewed prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu positively.

Report: Israel working to shutter Palestinian embassy in Washington
September 28, 2017
Report: Israel working to shutter Palestinian embassy in WashingtonThe PLO's embassy in Washington (Google Street
Israel is reportedly working on a plan to shut down the Palestinian embassy in Washington.
Israel, with the help of US lawmakers, is formulating a plan to shut down the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s (PLO) embassy in Washington if the Palestinians pursue their diplomatic warfare against the Jewish state.
Israel’s Channel 11 reported Thursday that the plan was initiated a day after the Palestinians succeeded in joining Interpol, despite Israel’s efforts to against it.
The plan was reportedly discussed Wednesday during a meeting in Jerusalem between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; President Donald Trump’s special envoy Jason Greenblatt; US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, and Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer.
According to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu raised the issue of the PLO’s call on Sunday to try Israelis before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, a step which violates signed peace agreements with Israel. The Israeli leader told the three diplomats that “the actions taken by the Palestinian leadership in recent days severely impairs the chances of achieving peace.”
The Palestinian diplomatic warfare “would not go unanswered,” he stated.
US lawmakers have unsuccessfully attempted to shutter the Palestinian embassy in the past. In February 2016, several congressmen took action against the PLO embassy in Washington over the Palestinians’ action against Israel at the ICC.

There will be no more uprooting of Israeli communities in exchange for a false promise of peace, Netanyahu stated.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed there will be no more uprooting of Israeli communities as part of any diplomatic solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Netanyahu made the statement on Wednesday while addressing thousands who attended a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of Israel’s presence in Judea, Samaria, the Golan Heights and the Jordan Valley.
“We have brought about magnificent settlement in Judea and Samaria that we are maintaining and strengthening – responsibly, wisely and persistently,” Netanyahu stated.
Judea and Samaria is home to 500,000 Israelis living in some 250 communities.
“I tell you clearly and before anything: There will be no more uprooting of communities in the Land of Israel. It is not just a question of links to the homeland, though it is certainly that, but first of all, that is not the way to make peace,” Netanyahu said, adding that the decision pertains to both Jews and Arabs.

Israeli security forces arrested three Israeli Arabs who planned to carry out an attack on the Temple Mount in ISIS’ name.
The Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency) arrested three Israeli-Arabs earlier this month who were charged with supporting the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group. Two of them had planned to carry out a shooting attack on the Temple Mount, similar to the deadly attack perpetrated in July.
On July 14, cousins Muhammad Ahmed Muhammad Jabarin, 29, Muhammad Hamad Abdel Latif Jabarin, 19, and Muhammad Ahmed Mafdal Jabarin, 19, all residents of the northern Arab town of Umm al-Fahm, shot and killed two Israeli Druze police officers, Master Sgt. Kamil Shnaan and Master Sgt. Haiel Sitawe.
The three-member ISIS cell busted by Israel’s forces included Said Gasub Mahmoud Jabarin, 26, who was involved in planning the July attack on Temple Mount; Faris Salah Mahmoud Mahajna, 24, an ISIS supporter suspected of “possessing war material,” i.e. the weapons, and a 16-year-old minor who was also involved in planning the Temple Mount attack. The three are also residents of Umm al-Fahm.
The Shin Bet’s investigation has revealed that Said Jabarin and the minor, who was arrested with him, had planned to carry out a shooting attack. After their arrest, they turned in ammunition, including two handguns.

Prime Minister Netanyahu issued a stern warning to the Palestinians on Wednesday during a meeting with top US diplomats, saying diplomatic warfare against Israel “would not go unanswered.”
While meeting in Jerusalem with President Donald Trump’s special envoy Jason Greenblatt, US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman and Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer, the Israeli Prime Minister warned that the Palestinians’ diplomatic warfare against Israel “would not go unanswered.”
Greenblatt is on another visit to the region in an attempt to promote Trump’s regional peace initiative.
During the meeting, Netanyahu raised the issue of the Palestinians’ refusal to condemn Tuesday’s terrorist attack, in which a Palestinian murdered three Israelis and wounded a fourth at Har Adar. The prime minister also addressed the PLO’s call on Sunday to try Israelis before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, and the Palestinian accession to Interpol on Wednesday, a step which violates signed peace agreements with Israel.
Last week, the Palestinians sent a 700-page dossier to the ICC accusing Israel of war crimes.
Netanyahu told the three diplomats that the actions of the Palestinian leadership in recent days “severely impairs the chances of achieving peace.”

A Swedish court has ruled that a violent neo-Nazi group will not be permitted to march near the Gothenburg Synagogue on Yom Kippur.
A Swedish court on Monday ruled to reroute a neo-Nazi march planned for Yom Kippur, which was slated to pass by the local synagogue in Gothenburg.
The Nordic Resistance Movement, a local neo-Nazi organization, had originally asked to march on September 30 along the city’s main street during the Gothenburg Book Fair – the largest book fair in Scandinavia, attended by some 100,000 people.
After that request was denied, the police offered an alternative route that would take the marchers in close proximity of the local synagogue on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Jewish organizations condemned the decision, while the the World Jewish Congress (WJC) operated together with the Jewish community and the Swedish government to prevent the incident.
The WJC welcomed the court’s ruling, saying it was a “very correct and moral decision” to ban the neo-Nazis from marching in the proximity of a synagogue on Yom Kippur.
“Such a march would be rife with implicit dangers and traumatic historical memory, and should never have been allowed in the first place,” the WJC stated. “We hope that this will serve as an important precedent, both in Sweden and in other countries, to prevent any such event from taking place in the future.”

Ex-CIA officer quits job after posting anti-Semitic tweet

Former CIA agent Valerie Plame, who came under fire for retweeting a virulently anti-Semitic article, announced that she has resigned from Ploughshares Fund.
Former CIA agent Valerie Plame announced Sunday that she has resigned from Ploughshares Fund after she retweeted a virulently anti-Semitic article by a well-known critic of Israel that accused American Jews of promoting wars in the Middle East and called it “thoughtful.”
The Hill reported Monday that her resignation came after several tweets in which she apologized for sharing the “deeply offensive” article, which she described as having “anti-Semitic tropes.”
“Actions have consequences, and while I have been honored to serve on the board of the Ploughshares Fund…to avoid detracting from their mission, I have resigned,” Plame tweeted.
“I take full responsibility for my thoughtless and hurtful actions, and there are no excuses for what I did,” she said in another post.
Ploughshares Fund condemned Wilson’s tweet of the offensive article, which was written by Phillip Giraldi, another ex-CIA officer. The article was published by an online magazine called The Unz Review, a website that promotes an anti-Israel agenda and posts content that has been called anti-Semitic.
“Our board member, Valerie Plame Wilson, seriously erred in retweeting an anti-Semitic article,” the organization said in a statement on Friday.
“Ploughshares Fund condemns in the strongest terms what we believe to be white supremacist and anti-Semitic propaganda espoused by this site. The prejudices promulgated by this site are an affront to American values and human decency.”
Ploughshares Fund’s stated mission is to help “make the world more safe and secure” by funding organizations and people who promote the elimination of nuclear weapons, prevent the emergence of new nuclear states, and build regional peace.
Plame on Sunday referred to her posting of the article as “a grave mistake” and vowed to “avoid resorting to stereotypes to express my positions.”

The Yom Kippur War Miracle – Victory Against All Odds
1973 war
Chanukah
Military Miracles
yom kippur war
Many miraculous events occurred during the Yom Kippur War. As in the Chanukah story, the People of Israel were victorious despite seemingly insurmountable odds.

The 1973 Arab-Israel War – also known as the Yom Kippur War because it began on Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar – lasted approximately four weeks. It was October 6, 1973, which also happened to fall that year during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

An Arab coalition led by Egypt and Syria launched a joint surprise attack against Israel. Despite the large amassing of forces along Israel’s borders prior to that day, a significant amount of misinformation and what appeared to be a lack of support for the Arab states by Russia had convinced Israel that war was not imminent. This meant that Israel was doubly unprepared for the invasion.

A couple of false alarms in both May and August of that year meant that by the time the offensive was about to be launched, Israeli intelligence had regarded the movement of troops and armaments as just another insignificant exercise.

Just as with all our wars, stories of miracles abound. The fact that Jordan chose to opt out of this war was considered by many to be a miraculous occurrence in and of itself. Jordan’s decision was due to a combination of pressure from the US to stay out of the conflict and a secret understanding between Jerusalem and Amman that if Jordan refrained from becoming involved, Israel would not attack her.

Having had nearly all of her air force destroyed by Israel in the 1967 war, the Jordanians decided not to participate. For Israel, the difference between having to fight a war on two fronts instead of three was a meaningful one and gave her a fighting chance.

Israel takes action against family of terrorist who killed 3

Israel takes action against family of terrorist who killed 3Israeli forces outside the home of terrorist Nimr Jamal
The IDF has taken several measures in response to the Palestinian terrorist attack that killed three Israelis on Tuesday.
The IDF has taken several measures against the family of Nimr Mahmoud Ahmed Jamal, a Palestinian terrorist who murdered three Israelis and seriously wounded a fourth during a shooting attack at Har Adar on Tuesday.

IDF engineers took preliminary steps by mapping out Jamal’s home in the Palestinian village of Beit Surik ahead of its demolition.

Tearing down terrorists’ homes is meant to serve as deterrence for potential terrorists plotting future attacks. The recent wave of Palestinian terror has claimed the lives of 55 victims in almost two years.

The IDF arrested two of Jamal’s brothers on suspicion that they knew of his intentions to carry out an attack. They also dismantled a mourner’s tent that was erected outside the terrorist’s house.

Israel canceled the entry permits of several of Jamal’s relatives. Jamal had entered Israel as an employee in Har Adar.

“While we are still investigating the event and its implications, we can say some things with certainty even now. One – the home of the terrorist will be demolished. Two – the IDF has already cordoned off the village. Three – all work permits for members of the terrorist’s extended family are hereby revoked,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced after the attack.

In related news, IDF forces carrying out counter-terrorism operations throughout Judea and Samaria on Tuesday night arrested 15 wanted Palestinians.

The IDF chief of staff has granted Azaria his request for clemency and shortened his sentence by four months.

IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot announced Wednesday that he has accepted a request for clemency from IDF soldier Elor Azaria and has shortened his prison term by four months.

Azaria was sentenced in February to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter. He lost an appeal in August, and submitted a request for clemency to Eizenkot in August.

In a letter sent to Azaria, who is currently serving his prison term, Eisenkott condemned the soldier’s actions but said he took into consideration his exemplary service as a combat soldier and decided that a display of mercy was called for in this case.
With Eisenkot’s decision, Azaria is now scheduled to be released in a year. He can request to have his sentence further reduced by 50 percent, as per military regulations.
In March 2016, Azaria, a combat medic stationed in Hebron, shot a neutralized terrorist in the head as he lay wounded on the ground after committing a stabbing attack against the soldier’s colleagues.
Azaria claimed during his trial that he felt his life was in danger, saying he thought the terrorist could have been carrying a bomb on his body.

Interpol accepted the “State of Palestine” into its ranks, despite Israel’s objections.
Israel’s steps to prevent the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) admission to the international police organization (Interpol) have failed, and the international policing body voted to give the Palestinians full membership.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered the Foreign Ministry to increase its efforts to prevent the PA from joining Interpol, and Israel submitted a motion to have the vote on the Palestinian membership bid postponed. The motion was rejected and the majority of the voting member states on Wednesday backed giving the Palestinians full membership.
In a secret ballot that took place during Interpol’s annual assembly in Beijing, 75 members supported the bid, 24 voted against and 34 abstained.
Based in Lyon, France, Interpol consists of 192 member states, making it the second-largest international organization after the United Nations (UN).

Until the vote, the PA had the status of a “partially recognized state without membership.”
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki welcomed the vote, hailing it as a Palestinian “victory.” He said the support for “Palestine’s” membership is “a vote of confidence in Palestine’s law enforcement capabilities and commitment to the core values of the organization. Palestine’s admission to Interpol is a victory for law enforcement and global cooperation.”

Saudi king rules women will be allowed to drive in kingdom

Following 30 years of campaigning, Saudi Arabia has become the last country in the world to lift its ban on women driving.

Saudi Arabia’s surprise decision to grant women the right to drive in the conservative kingdom marks a significant expansion in women’s rights, but activists said Wednesday it is also only the first step in a long list of demands for equality.
Saudi Arabia was the only country left in the world that banned women from driving. The royal decree late Tuesday comes into effect next summer, but it comes nearly three decades after women began agitating for the right to drive.
As recently as 2013, dozens of women uploaded videos online of themselves behind the wheel of a car during a campaign launched by Saudi rights activists. Some videos showed families and male drivers giving women a “thumbs-ups,” suggesting many were ready for the change.
While women in other Muslim countries drove freely, the kingdom’s blanket ban attracted negative publicity. Neither Islamic law nor Saudi traffic law explicitly prohibited women from driving, but they were not issued licenses and were detained if they attempted to drive.

A New York synagogue will be the first Jewish congregation to visit an Arab country in the Persian Gulf during its upcoming mission to Bahrain.
At the invitation of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Rabbi Marc Schneier of the Hampton Synagogue on Westhampton Beach, Long Island, New York, will lead a congregational mission to Bahrain.

It will be the first visit by a Jewish group to an Arab Gulf country.

Schneier, described on his synagogue website as “a trailblazer in the field of Muslim-Jewish relations,” has maintained a relationship with the Bahraini monarch over several years. In 2011, he was the first rabbi to be received by King Hamad at the royal palace.
The congregational mission was announced during the recent Rosh Hashana services. The purpose, Schneier told The Jerusalem Post, is to “set a paradigm for what we hope and pray for this time of year during the High Holidays.”

Iran threat looms despite fake missile test, Israel warns

While evidence mounts that Iran misrepresented their recent missile test, Israel reminds the world that the Islamic Republic remains a danger to the free world.

After a Trump administration official exposed a purported Iranian ballistic missile launch last weekend as a fraud, additional evidence has surfaced confirming that the Islamic Republic did not in fact carry out a test. Among the tip-offs that the test was fake was the lack of telltale electronic signals, which would have been picked up by US assets in the region had a ballistic missile launch actually taken place.
On Monday, the Israeli defense establishment confirmed that that Jewish state’s intelligence also did not observe any indications that Iran had actually tested a Khorramshahr ballistic missile, according to the Jerusalem Post. When operational, such missiles can carry multiple warheads and have a range of 2,000 km.
While Iranian state broadcaster IRIB carried portrayed footage of the launch as current video from an on-board camera, Fox News reported that the video was more than seven months old. Fox‘s sources were two US officials who identified the video as a failed launch in January.
Setting aside the veracity of the footage, Israeli officials have issued stern warnings regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its unwavering mission to arm and fund terrorist groups on Israel’s borders.

Several rockets struck Kabul’s international airport shortly after Secretary of Defense Mattis arrived there.
At least five civilians, including a woman, were wounded after several rockets were fired toward Kabul international airport in the Afghan capital, officials said Wednesday.
The attack came as US Secretary of Defense James Mattis and NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Kabul for a visit and just hours before they held a joint news conference with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.
Najib Danish, spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, said one of the rockets struck a home near the airport, wounding the five victims. He said one of them was a woman who was “not in a good health condition.”
Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack on his official Twitter account.
Tumor Shah Hamedi, director of the Kabul airport, said all flights were halted as result of the attack.
Ghani said during the joint news conference at the presidential palace that Special Forces troops brought the attack under control.

In UN General Assembly Speeches, Palestinian and Iranian Leaders Savage Israel and Zionism.
By: Ben Cohen/The Algemeiner
Attacks on Israel’s legitimacy were in full flow at the UN General Assembly session in New York City on Wednesday, as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the 1917 Balfour Declaration — in which Britain announced its support for “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people” — as a “crime against our people,” while Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described the Jewish state as “the rogue Zionist regime,” in language harking back to the “Zionism-is-racism” days at the world body during the 1970s.
In an angry speech in which he repeatedly accused Israel of violating international law and abandoning the two-state solution, Abbas — moments after wishing Jews a “Happy New Year” on the eve of Rosh Hashana — slammed the United Kingdom for having launched the process which led to the creation of the State of Israel in the first place.
Abbas charged the British with having “inflicted a grave injustice on the Palestinian people” by issuing the Balfour Declaration, asserting that in 1917, “97 percent of the inhabitants of Palestine were Palestinians.” While 90,000 Jews lived in Palestine at the time, out of a total population of 600,000, the PLO — of which Abbas is the chairman — declares in its charter that Jews who “normally resided” in the country before the “Zionist invasion” of 1917 “will be considered Palestinians.”
Abbas: Palestine was ‘Prosperous, Progressive’ State
Claiming that the Palestine of 1917 was a “prosperous, progressive” country, Abbas
said that the Balfour Declaration and the subsequent imposition of the British Mandate amounted to a “historical injustice.”

Egyptian president El-Sissi called on the Palestinians to unite behind a common goal and accept coexistence with Israel in peace and security.
Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah el-Sissi on Tuesday made an impassioned pitch for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, calling for both sides to take advantage of a “rare” opportunity to achieve the elusive goal.
El-Sissi broke from his prepared remarks to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in Classical Arabic to address Israelis and Palestinians informally in colloquial Egyptian Arabic, saying they should take advantage of an opportunity that “may not be repeated.”
The Egyptian leader urged the Palestinians to seize the moment, which he views as ripe for peace.
He also tried to reassure Israelis by citing Egypt’s long-established peace with their nation which has lasted over 40 years, saying that “amazing” step can be repeated with the Palestinians.
“Do not hesitate,” el-Sissi said addressing the Israeli public. “We are standing with you to make this step a success.”
The Egyptian president asserted that “an independent Palestinian state” with east Jerusalem as its capital is “a necessary precondition for the entire region to [transition] into a new phase of stability and development.”

Iran unveils latest missile capable of reaching Israel
September 23, 2017

Defying the US, Iran unveiled its latest ballistic missile capable of reaching much of the Middle East, including the Jewish state.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard on Friday unveiled its latest ballistic missile capable of reaching much of the Middle East, including Israel, while the country’s president vowed that Tehran would press ahead with its missile program in defiance of U.S. demands to the contrary.
The unveiling came during a military parade in Tehran that commemorated the 1980s Iraq-Iran war.
The move was a direct challenge to US President Donald Trump, who in August signed a bill imposing mandatory penalties on those involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.
Though Iran has long boasted of having missiles in the same range in its arsenal, it was the first time that the Khoramshahr, with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles), was displayed in public.
In February, Iran test-fired the same medium-range type of missile, prompting Trump to say that the United States is “putting Iran on notice.” Iran’s state TV aired footage late Friday it said showed a Khoramshahr medium-range ballistic missile being test fired. The report did not mention the time or location of the test.
Trump has vowed repeatedly to take a tougher line toward Iran than his predecessor, threatening at various times to renegotiate or even dismantle the nuclear deal, and shoot Iranian boats out of the water if they provoke U.S. naval vessels in the Persian Gulf.

Trump After Iran Missile Test: ‘Not Much of an Agreement We Have’
Trump criticized Iran for test-firing a missile capable of striking Israel and slammed the nuclear deal as “not much of an agreement.”
US President Donald Trump on Saturday pointed to a missile test by Iran as another breach of the nuclear agreement the Islamic Republic had reached with the US and other nations.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) on Friday displayed its latest ballistic missile capable of reaching Israel and much of the Middle East.
The US opposes Iran’s ballistic missile program. Trump signed a bill last month imposing penalties on those involved with it.
Iran’s state TV aired a video of the test-firing on Friday of a Khoramshahr medium-range ballistic missile. The time or location of the test was not mentioned in the report.
Trump: Iran is Working with North Korea
Trump tweeted Saturday about the public unveiling of the missile, saying, “Iran just test-fired a Ballistic Missile capable of reaching Israel. They are also working with North Korea. Not much of an agreement we have!”
Though Iran has long boasted of having such long-range missiles in its arsenal, it was the first time that the Khoramshahr, with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles), was displayed in public.
The nuclear agreement reached during the Obama administration does not strictly prohibit Iran from developing missiles. Critics of the deal point to this legal loophole as one of the agreement’s failures.
Worst One-Sided Deal in American History
Trump has suggested he might seek to renegotiate the nuclear deal or abandon it. He told the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday that the accord was “nothing short of an embarrassment” and the “worst one-sided deal perhaps in American history.”
In his speech at the UN, Trump accused Iran of supporting terrorists and called Tehran a “corrupt dictatorship” and a “murderous regime.”
Speaking a day later, Rouhani said the Iranian people are waiting for an apology from Trump for his “extremely offensive” rhetoric and “unfounded” allegations about Iran.
On Thursday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has final say on all major policies in Iran, said Trump’s “cheap, ugly, foolish and unreal” remarks at the UNGA were a sign of desperation. During a meeting with a clerical assembly, Khamenei said such comments “do not come from power, but from anger, desperation and weak-mindedness.”

A former CIA operative retweeted a virulently anti-Semitic article by a well-known bigot, which she described as “thoughtful.” Now she’s trying to make excuses.
By: Alan M. Dershowitz/The Gatestone Institute
Valerie Plame had to know what she was tweeting. On the Jewish High Holy Day of Rosh Hashana, Plame retweeted a virulently anti-Semitic article by a well-known bigot, which she characterized as “thoughtful.” Now she’s trying to make excuses, but they don’t wash.
The article by Phillip Giraldi itself contains the usual anti-Semitic tropes: Jews are guilty of dual loyalty; they control politicians, the media and entertainment; they want the US to fight wars for the country to which they have real allegiance– Israel; they are dangerous to America. Giraldi has been pushing this garbage for years and Plame is one of his fans.
But this particular article goes much further in its neo-Nazi imagery. It advocates that “the media should be required to label [Jews like Bill Kristol] at the bottom of the television screen whenever they pop up … That would be kind-of-like a warning label on a bottle of rat poison –translating roughly as ingest even the tiniest little dosage of the nonsense spewed by Bill Kristol at your own peril.”
In other words, Jewish supporters of Israel, like Kristol and me, should have to wear the modern-day equivalent of a yellow star before we are allowed to appear on TV and poison real Americans. Nice stuff that Plame was retweeting and characterizing as thoughtful.

United Arab Emirates: Iran is main obstacle to peace

United Arab Emirates: Iran is main obstacle to peaceForeign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan (AP/Craig Ruttle)
A Gulf state diplomat pinpoints the key to peace in the Middle East: ending Iran’s belligerent expansionism.
The foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said that Iran’s “hostile and expansionist policy” is the major obstacle to solving all crises in the Arab world.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan accused Iran of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries and supporting “terrorist groups,” including Shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen and Hezbollah, the Lebanese terror group fighting alongside Syrian government forces.
He told the UNGA’s annual ministerial meeting on Friday that Iran is also supporting “terrorist groups and cells” in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait.
Al Nahyan said that “Iran has not only committed blatant violations of the principles of sovereignty, but also continues to exploit the crises in the Arab world to undermine regional security by inciting and fueling conflict.”
He said Iran must realize that the best basis “for a harmonious relationship with the states in the Arab Gulf” is to respect the sovereignty of countries in the region.
The UAE along with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain cut all ties to Qatar in June, accusing it of supporting terrorism.
The Emirati minister told the General Assembly: “We have a clear choice with no alternative: to stand against terrorism in all manifestations and to stand against all perpetrators without exception.”

Angela Merkel won a fourth term as German chancellor, but Alternative for Germany, the country’s most right-wing party, managed an entry into Parliament, alarming the Jewish community.
Chancelor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc won a lackluster victory in Germany’s national election Sunday while the anti-migrant, nationalist Alternative for Germany party managed a triumphant entry into parliament, projections showed.
Merkel’s main center-left rivals, the Social Democrats, were set for their worst result since World War II. The party, led by Merkel’s challenger Martin Schulz, vowed immediately to leave her coalition government and go into opposition.
The outcome puts Merkel on course for a fourth term as chancellor — but means that she has a tricky task in forming a new coalition government.
Projections for ARD and ZDF public television, based on exit polls and early counting, showed Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union and their Bavaria-only allies, the Christian Social Union, winning around 33 percent of the vote — down from 41.5 percent four years ago. It was one of their worst post-war showings.

A new investigation has revealed that Nisman was killed hours before presenting the court with his damning case about the bombing of the Jewish AMIA center in Buenos Aires.
A team of forensic investigators has given a prosecutor a new report on the death of a prosecutor investigating Argentina’s worst terrorist attack. A source says it concludes he was a victim of homicide — and didn’t kill himself.
The report submitted Friday by a team led by Argentina’s border police marks a shift from previous court-ordered investigations that concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to prove someone else shot Alberto Nisman in the head.
An official at the prosecutor’s office confirmed the homicide conclusion, but spoke on condition of anonymity because it’s not yet publicly available.
During his historic visit to the country earlier this month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised President Mauricio Macri’s “commitment” to solve two terror attacks against the Jewish community in Argentina.

“We’re in the midst of a great revolution,” Netanyahu stated in his address to the UN General Assembly with regard to Israel’s remarkable diplomatic achievements across the globe, including with the Arab world.

In his proud address to the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York a day ahead of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “tomorrow evening, Jews around the world will look back with wonder at the miraculous rebirth of our nation, and we look ahead with pride at the remarkable contributions Israel will continue to make to all nations.”

“We’re in the midst of a great revolution, a revolution in Israel’s standing among the nations,” the prime minister stated. “This is happening because so many countries around the world have finally woken up to what Israel can do for them… that Israel is the innovation nation – the place for cutting-edge technology in agriculture, in water, in cyber security, in medicine, in autonomous vehicles – you name it, we’ve got it.”
‘We Have Saved Countless Lives’
This includes several Arab nations that recognize Israel’s exceptional abilities in fighting terrorism, not only inside the Jewish state, but also on a global level. “We have saved countless lives,” he declared.
“After 70 years, the world is embracing Israel and Israel is embracing the world.”

“If forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea,” Trump stated in his first address to the UN General Assembly Tuesday.

US President Donald Trump, in a combative debut speech to the U.N. General Assembly, threatened the “total destruction'” of North Korea if the nation’s “Rocket man” leader does not abandon his drive toward nuclear weapons.

Trump, who has ramped up his rhetoric throughout the escalating crisis with North Korea, told the murmuring crowd of world leaders on Tuesday that “it is far past time for the nations of the world to confront” Kim Jong Un and said that Kim’s “reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons” poses a threat to “the entire world with an unthinkable loss of human life.”

“Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and his regime,” said Trump, using a belittling nickname for the North Korean leader. He said of the U.S.: “If it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea.”

In dark language reminiscent of his “American carnage” inaugural address, Trump touched upon hot spots around the globe, declaring, “The scourge of our planet is a group of rogue regimes.” Elected on the nationalist slogan “America First,” Trump argued that individual nations should act in their own self-interest, yet rally together when faced with a common threat.

Parts of the World are ‘Going to Hell’

He urged nations to join to stop Iran’s nuclear program — he declared the deal to restrain it an “embarrassment” for the United States — and defeat “loser terrorists” who have struck violence across the globe. He denounced “radical Islamic terrorism,” the inflammatory label he has recently shied away from. He denounced the Syrian government and warned that some violence-plagued portions of the world “are going to hell.” He made little mention of Russia.

North Korea drew most of Trump’s attention and anger.
His lashing was a vigorous restatement of what’s been said by U.S.leaders before, but was likely to hit home harder for being intensely delivered in diplomatic prime time at the U.N. General Assembly. After a litany of accusations — the starvation of millions, the abduction of a Japanese girl — he questioned the legitimacy of the communist government by referring to it as a “band of criminals.”

The IAF fired a Patriot missile and intercepted an Iranian-made drone that was about to breach Israeli airspace.

The IDF on Tuesday intercepted an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) that attempted to infiltrate Israeli airspace in the Golan Heights on Israel’s northern border
An Israeli Air Force (IAF) anti-aircraft battery fired a Patriot missile at the drone, which reportedly crashed on the Syrian side of the border.
IDF Spokesman Ronen Manelis stated that the IDF identified the Iranian-made drone, operated by the Hezbollah terror group, taking off from the international airport in Damascus. He noted that the drone was collecting intelligence, and at no point did it breach Israeli airspace.
Fighter jets were also scrambled to the area, but did not engage the target.
The IDF “will not allow any infiltration or approach toward the Golan Heights area by terrorist figures from Iranian forces, Hezbollah, Shiite militias or Islamic Jihad,” it stated after the incident

Among the Israeli prime minister’s diplomatic engagements in New York was his first official meeting with Egypt’s president.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi in New York City on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the first official meeting between the two leaders.

The two had previously met, but the meetings were secret and not documented by the media.

In New York this week, the two leaders met for an hour and a half, discussing various regional issues.

Al-Sissi expressed his desire to facilitate the diplomatic process between Israel and the Palestinians, Israeli officials said.

The meeting was attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, Head of General Intelligence Khaled Fawzi and Chief of Staff Abbas Kamel.

In a press statement, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said that al-Sissi stressed during his meeting with Netanyahu “the importance that Egypt attaches to the efforts to resume negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides” in order to reach a “just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.”
Netanyahu also held several other diplomatic meetings in New York.

The fence Israel built along its border with Egypt has brought illegal migration to a complete standstill.
Not a single infiltration from the Sinai Peninsula into Israel was recorded over the past 12 months, Israel’s Population and Immigration Authority reported Sunday.
Officials credit this surprising statistic to the fence Israel built along its border with Egypt several years ago.
In 2016, only 18 people managed to cross into Israel from Egypt illegally, while in 2015 the number of such infiltrators stood at 220.
Meanwhile, authorities said over the past 12 months, Israel deported 2,431 people who crossed into its territory illegally, including 2,245 Eritreans and 186 Sudanese.
According to Population and Immigration Authority data, some 38,000 African migrants live in Israel illegally.

An influential Polish politician denounced anti-Semitism as a “very dangerous” phenomenon now expressed through hostility toward the “great state” of Israel.

Poland’s most powerful politician on Monday denounced anti-Semitism and praised the “great” state of Israel at a ceremony honoring Poles who protected Jews during the Holocaust.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, chief of the governing conservative Law and Justice party, spoke at an outdoor ceremony attended by Israeli, US and British officials and organized by From the Depths, a foundation established by descendants of Jewish Holocaust survivors.

In rare remarks on international relations, Kaczynski said Israel owes its existence to the “power of spirit, power of the mind, determination and courage” of its people. He denounced anti-Semitism as a “very dangerous” phenomenon that is expressed through hostility toward the country.
“In its way, in a real way, Israel is a great state,” Kaczynski said, calling the Mideast country an “outpost of our civilization.”
While Warsaw and Tel Aviv have strong ties, Kaczynski has faced pressure from Jewish communities in Poland and Europe to speak out against what they see as a rise of anti-Semitism.

Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian who announced on Facebook he was going to carry out an attack in Israel.

Israeli security forces on Friday arrested a Palestinian in the town of al-Azariya, in the Jerusalem area, after he posted a status on Facebook in which he declared his intentions of carrying out a terror attack in Israel.

Israeli media reported that Sliman al-Natsheh published a photo of himself strapped with what appears to be an explosive belt, accompanied by the caption “I joined ISIS [Islamic State terror group] and I will bomb Israel tonight.”
The Shin Bet views Israelis who support the Islamic State organization as a serious security threat. Israeli security forces have exposed several ISIS terror cells, comprised mostly of Arabs holding Israeli citizenship, operating in the Jewish state. Tens of suspects were arrested.
It remains unclear whether the explosive belt in the picture was real.

Preparing for battle? In the latest round of muscle-flexing between North Korea and the US, America exhibited its impressive airstrike capabilities.
South Korea says the US military on Monday flew powerful bombers and stealth jets over the Korean Peninsula in joint drills with South Korean warplanes.

The US often sends such high-tech, powerful aircraft in a show of force in times of heightened animosities with North Korea.
Monday’s flyovers came three days after North Korea fired an intermediate-range missile over Japan into the northern Pacific Ocean in apparent defiance of US-led international pressure on the country. The North conducted its sixth nuclear test on September and was subsequently hit with tough, fresh UN sanctions.
Seoul’s Defense Ministry says two B-1Bs and four F-35Bs conducted drills with four South Korean F-15K fighter jets.

Fatah welcomes Hamas pledge to try to end Palestinian split

Hamas announced that it has accepted key Abbas demands for ending a decade-old Palestinian political and territorial split.

President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement on Sunday welcomed a pledge by its Hamas rival to accept key conditions for ending a decade-old Palestinian political and territorial split, but said it wants to see vows implemented before making the next move.

Repeated attempts at reconciliation have failed since the militant Hamas drove forces loyal to Abbas from the Gaza Strip in 2007, a year after defeating Fatah in parliament elections. The takeover led to rival governments, with Hamas controlling Gaza and Abbas in charge of autonomous enclaves in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Earlier Sunday, Hamas announced that it has accepted key Abbas demands for ending the split. This includes holding general elections in the West Bank and Gaza, dissolving a contentious Gaza administrative committee and allowing an Abbas-led “unity government,” formed in 2014 but until now unable to start operating in Gaza, to finally assume responsibility there.

The announcement came after separate talks by Hamas and Fatah delegations with Egyptian intelligence officials in Cairo in recent days.

Egypt relayed Fatah demands to Hamas that as a first step, it must dissolve the administrative committee, its de facto government in Gaza, and allow the unity government to take charge.

“We accepted that as a sign of our good will toward reconciliation,” Hamas official Hussam Badran told The Associated Press.

“The administrative committee is now dissolved and the government can come to Gaza today to assume its responsibilities and duties,” he said.

Azzam al-Ahmed, a Fatah participant in the talks, said Hamas and Fatah agreed to meet in Cairo within 10 days, during which time the national unity government should assume its responsibility in Gaza.

Mahmoud Aloul, another Fatah official, told the Voice of Palestine radio that the news from Cairo is encouraging, but that “we want to see that happening on the ground before we move to the next step.”

Hamas has been greatly weakened by an Israeli and Egyptian blockade, three wars with Israel and international isolation. Gaza’s economy is in tatters and residents of the territory have electricity for only a few hours a day. In recent months, Abbas has stepped up financial pressure on Hamas, including by scaling back electricity payments to Gaza, to force his rivals to cede ground.

No Guarantees Deal Will Succeed

Still, there were no guarantees that this deal will succeed where others failed.

In previous deals, including one brokered by Egypt in 2011, both sides professed willingness to reconcile, but ultimately balked at giving up power in their respective territories.

A key sticking point in the past was Hamas’ refusal to place its security forces in Gaza under the control of an Abbas-led unity government.

It also was not clear how Egypt’s latest effort aligns with its previous tacit support for a separate Gaza power-sharing deal between Hamas and Mohammed Dahlan, an exiled former Abbas aide-turned-rival.

September 17, 2017
Bahrain monarch calls for religious tolerance, denounces boycotts on IsraelBahrain’s King Hamad (AP/Evan Vucci)
Authored by King Hamad al Khalifa, who reportedly has approved visits to the Jewish state, the Bahrain Declaration on Religious Tolerance calls for religious tolerance.

The Bahrain Declaration on Religious Tolerance, described by the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) as a “plain-speaking attack against terrorism,” authored by King Hamad al Khalifa of Bahrain, was released last week at an historic event co-sponsored SWC at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.

“The document, the first of its kind to be written by an Arab head of state, calls for people of all faiths to show respect for, and protection of, the rights of everyone to practice their religious affiliations in dignity and peace,” SWC announced.

“Every individual has the freedom to practice their religion, providing they do no harm to others, respect the laws of the land, and accept responsibility, spiritually and materially, for their choices,” the Bahraini declaration reads.

Representing his father, Prince Nasser bin Hamad al Khalif signed the declaration along with Rabbi Marvin Hier, SWC founder and dean. A 40-person delegation from Bahrain accompanied Prince Nasser to Los Angeles and joined in the tour to the Museum of Tolerance, it was announced on the Center’s website .

“Arab diplomats from across the Middle East, along with representatives of 15 nations from five continents and 300 interfaith leaders from around the world represented Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and Baha’i communities, at the historic gathering,” which included about 600 participants.

“One day the planet is going to be like this hall, Inshallah,” al Khalifa, the event’s main speaker, declared.

“Bahrain is a place where Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus live in coexistence,” Rev. Johnnie Moore told the crowd, noting that in addition to hosting one of the oldest Hindu temples, the kingdom is constructing the largest Catholic church in the Arab world.

Any ‘Relevant’ Religion’ Must Denounce Terror

Recalling his visit to Bahrain in February 2017, Hier said the “most exciting part…was listening to His Majesty outline his vision for a new Middle East — one solidly based on the principles of inclusion and human dignity that rejects extremism.”

“If a religion wants to be relevant in the 21st century, it must speak out against terrorist extremism. Otherwise, it’s not really a religion. Anyone born in the image of God has to stand against terrorists… So the Bahrain Declaration is the right time, the right idea and the right place,” Hier stated.

Bahrain Declaration ‘Devoid of Political Correctness’

The Bahrain Declaration “is a statement devoid of political correctness,” Rabbi Abraham Cooper, SWC’s associate dean, said. “It’s exactly the language that millions of people around the world have been waiting for. We know there are moderates, but who is going to stand up and articulate it. So to have an Arab head of state tackle these issues is a game changer.”

The Jerusalem Post reported that Arab officials stood in respect as the Bahrain National Orchestra played “Hatikva,” Israel’s national anthem, preceded by the Bahraini and US national anthems.

King Hamad denounced the Arab boycott of Israel and said his subjects were free to visit the Jewish state, the Post reported.

“May the day come soon when His Majesty’s plane lands at Ben-Gurion Airport, and when the anthems played here tonight will be heard around the world ushering in that long-awaited era of lasting peace and tranquility,” Hier said, according to the Post.

Shifting Sands of Middle Eastern Politics

Bahrain currently does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

“That the prince would come to the Museum of Tolerance — an unabashedly pro-Israel institution — highlights the shifting sands of Middle Eastern politics in an era in which common enemies and concerns can create strange bedfellows,” the LA Times wrote.

“If I had to predict, I would tell you that the Arab world’s relationship with the State of Israel is going to dramatically change,” Hier said, the Times added. “The king is “ahead of the pack and smart. It is the way to go, and he’s smart. This is a dinner tonight that’s hosted by a Jewish organization that no one will say is not so pro-Israel.”

In another sign of change in the country, the Middle East Media Research Institute posted a video last winter showing a “cleansing” operation by Bahrain’s “Youth for Jerusalem” branch at the location of a menorah-lighting ceremony on the first night of Chanukah, sponsored by king.

Rumors were swirling last week that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had visited the Jewish state. If true, this would also signal a major change in diplomatic relations between Israel and the Arab world.

The Trump administration “strongly supports the Taylor Force Act,” which counters the PA policy of paying terrorists and their families, the State Department announced.

The Trump administration declared its firm support Thursday for a bill that would suspend US financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority (PA) until it ends what critics have described as a long-standing practice of rewarding Palestinians who kill Americans and Israelis.

The State Department announcement comes nearly six weeks after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee backed the measure. The legislation, named after an American who was stabbed to death in Israel by a Palestinian terrorist, reflects bipartisan outrage over what lawmakers have termed a “pay for slay” program endorsed by the PA.

“The Trump administration strongly supports the Taylor Force Act, which is a consequence of PA and Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) policy of paying terrorists and their families,” the State Department said.

US President Donald Trump, the State Department added, “raised the need to end any part of this program that incentivizes violence against Israeli and American citizens with President Mahmoud Abbas last May in both Washington and Bethlehem.”

Monetary Incentives for Acts of Terror

The PA has disputed the accusations and called the bill misinformed. Husam Zomlot, chief representative of the Palestinian General Delegation to the US, said last month that the program is more than 50 years old and is aimed at giving support to families “who lost their breadwinners to the atrocities of the occupation, the vast majority of whom are unduly arrested or killed by Israel.”

One of the bill’s main sponsors, Senator Bob Corker (R-TN), chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, said the PA has created monetary incentives for acts of terrorism by paying monthly stipends of as much as $3,500 to Palestinians who commit acts of violence and to the terrorists’ families. The amount of the payment depends on the length of the jail sentence, he said.

Taylor Force was an MBA student at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and a West Point graduate who was visiting Israel in March 2016 when he was killed.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said the PA praised Force’s killer as a “heroic martyr.” He estimated that the PA has paid $144 million in “martyr payments” over the years.

Hundreds of millions of foreign aid dollars to the Palestinians are used by their government to finance and promote terrorism. The PA has significantly increased its spending on salaries to terrorists serving time in Israeli prisons and to families of terrorist “martyrs” – those killed while committing acts of terror against Israel. These payments consume half of the foreign aid received by the PA.

According to the PA’s own budget, salaries to incarcerated and released terrorists will amount to 552 million shekels ($153.4 million) in 2017, a 13-percent rise over the 2016 proposed budget and 11 percent more than actual expenditures in 2016. The money will be transferred to the Palestinian National Fund, the financial arm of the PLO, which was designated by Israel as a terror organization due to its involvement in paying terrorist salaries.

Altogether, the expenditures for supporting terror in the 2017 PA budget are 1.24 billion shekels ($344 million). A report by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs shows that this sum constitutes seven percent of the total budget, similar to the past several years, but amounts to 49.6 percent of foreign aid received by the PA due to the diminishing amount of external aid expected in 2017.

As in previous years, the budget includes benefits to the families of arrested terrorists and of those killed and wounded while committing acts of terror.

Surrounded by club-wielding Arabs in search of Jewish victims, an Israeli singer defended his wife and children and forced the mob to disperse.

Avi Miller, an Israeli singer who had spent Shabbat in Jerusalem at a hotel near the Mount of Olives, was returning home with his family Saturday night when he suddenly found himself surrounded by a group of approximately 150 Arabs in the A-Tur neighborhood.

According to Miller, the men had blocked traffic and were peering into cars to see if they contained Jews. Miller explained that the Arabs “smash[ed]i any Jewish vehicle with rocks,” reported Arutz Sheva and Kikar Hashabbat. Miller’s car was targeted, with the singer’s terrified children and wife stuck inside.

Miller, who is licensed to carry a firearm, quickly emerged from his car with his weapon drawn in an attempt to ward off the would-be attackers. Firing two warning shots into the air, Miller succeeded in forcing the rioters to disperse.

According to Miller, the rioters left their clubs behind after fleeing the scene. Officers responding to the scene confirmed that Miller had acted appropriately during the attempted attack.

The A-Tur neighborhood is part of Jerusalem and has made it into the news on a number of occasions due to terrorism and incitement.

Attorney-General to Indict Sara Netanyahu Imminently

Israel’s attorney-general is expected to indict the prime minister’s wife imminently on charges related to fraud and breach of trust.

Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit has notified Sara Netanyahu, wife of the Israeli prime minister, that he plans to indict her.

It is expected that the indictment over issues related to the prime minister’s residence will be served on Friday.

The indictment concerns charges of fraud and breach of trust based on the alleged misuse of state funds for expenses at the Prime Minister’s residence and for elder care for her ill father, in addition to charges related to catered dinners and housekeeping expenses.

Meni Naftali, a former manager of the prime minister’s residence, is expected to testify against the accused. The Netanyahu family says Naftali is a “serial liar and criminal state witness” who cut a deal with police.

“Sara Netanyahu is a courageous and honest woman, and her actions have never been without merit. In addition to her weekly work as an educational psychologist and child care expert, she spends a great deal of time helping children with cancer, Holocaust survivors and lone soldiers,” a statement released Thursday night by the Netanyahu family read.

Fixation on PM’s Food ‘Pathetic and Obsessive’

“The allegations against the wife of the prime minister are absurd and will prove to be baseless,” the statement continued.

“The steep increase in meal expenses at the Prime Minister’s Residence was caused by offenses committed by the problematic Meni Naftali, who is a serial liar and a criminal state witness. The average monthly expenditure on meals ordered during the period Naftali served as of the maintenance head (at the Prime Minister’s Residence—ed) was five times (!) higher than the monthly average of the next four years, when Naftali did not work there. That just says it all.

“Not only did the prime minister’s wife not commit any offense, but the preoccupation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s food – who works around the clock for the state and its security – and with the food of his family, is a pathetic and obsessive one.”

Recently, Sara Netanyahu took a private polygraph test as part of the investigation. The results indicated that she was telling the truth on key issues.

Rivlin warned Merkel that Iran was leading the “subversion” of Muslim youth across the Middle East, threatening Israel and the entire region’s stability in the process.

President Reuven Rivlin concluded a state visit to Germany Thursday, thanking Chancellor Angela Merkel for her country’s commitment to Israel’s security but also calling on Germany to take concrete steps to counter the growing Iranian threat in the Middle East.

The President noted that Iran was leading the “subversion” of Shi’ite youth in Syria and across the Middle East, threatening not only Israel, but the stability of the entire region.

Iran could “sink the whole region into war,” Rivlin said.

Hours after Israeli Air Force jets reportedly attacked a chemical weapons factory in Syria, Rivlin also spoke about Hezbollah’s activities in south Lebanon, backed by Iran, which, he said, endangered the local population and violated UN Security Council resolutions. He also said Israel could be forced to respond to the terror group’s infrastructure buildup.

Rivlin and Merkel also discussed the ongoing civil war in Syria, including Israel’s efforts to treat Syrian fighters and civilians wounded in the fighting, including global Islamic terrorism and the global threat of ISIS.

“The goal that has been set by the world to overcome it is important and correct,” Rivlin said. “Israel will help in any efforts to realize this goal.”

Rivlin also said that Israel and Germany share a wealth of common goals and cooperate “in every field according to the common needs of both countries.

Netanyahu: Ties with Arab world ‘stronger than ever’

Netanyahu: Ties with Arab world ‘stronger than ever’PM Netanyahu leads a weekly cabinet meeting. (Marc Israel Sellem/POOL)

Netanyahu looked forward to the Jewish new year while praising Israel’s recent diplomatic successes and breakthroughs particularly with the Arab world.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday declared that Israel’s current ties with the Arab world are unprecedented in its history, and its diplomatic efforts around the globe are constantly breaking new ground.

Speaking at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem to Israeli diplomats during the traditional toast ahead of the upcoming Rosh Hashanah holiday, Netanyahu stated that Israel today is “in a different place; the alliance with the United States – with North America as a whole – is stronger than ever, as are ties with Europe, including developing ties with Eastern Europe. The great breakthrough is to all continents.”

As for the Middle East, “what is actually happening with them has not happened in our history even when we signed the agreements,” Netanyahu said. “There is cooperation in various ways, on various levels, but is not yet out in the open. But what is not yet out in the open is much greater than in any other period in Israeli history. This is a major change. The entire world is changing.”

Regarding Israel’s “return to Africa” and its developing ties with several African countries, the Jewish state is “expanding the scope of technology assistance and it is leading to great interest across the continent,” Netanyahu, who also serves as Israel’s foreign minister, added.

Breakthroughs have also been achieved through major efforts in Asia. “There had not been any real contact with China or significant contact with India and Japan, to say nothing of the Muslim countries, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. This changed at a stroke in the past two years.” Netanyahu recently returned from an historic visit to the two Muslim-majority countries.

He also pointed to “a great change with Russia, … regarding both joining economic and cultural interests and, of course, to achieve – as much as possible – a coordination of expectations and intentions on a strategic level … . The link is being fostered and strengthened by us and by Russia itself.”

Israel and Russia have established a line of cooperation with the Russian army to avoid collisions in Syria. Netanyahu visited Russian premier Vladimir Putin last week.

“These are great changes, a sea change that is happening now, and we will not forget Australia which we visited,” Netanyahu underscored.

Looking Ahead to Latin America

The annual toast was moved up by a week due to what Netanyahu called “success.” He is slated to embark on an historic visit to Latin America next week, the first by a sitting Israeli prime minister. “This is a gigantic bloc that we have not yet visited,” Netanyahu highlighted.

He is slated to take part in a ceremony to mark the terrorist attacks at the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992 and at the AMIA Jewish Community Center in the city in 1994. The two terror attacks killed 115 people. He will also visit Colombia and Mexico and will meet with regional leaders.

“It is a great market in a large bloc of important countries. There is a breakthrough here…the fundamental assumption was that if we made an agreement with the Palestinians, which we have wanted and still want, it will open the world to us. There is no doubt that it will help, but the world has opened even without it, and it does not detract from the importance of considering tracks and the diplomatic process and normalization,” he explained.

“What there is here is a great change and it is happening despite the fact that, to our regret, the Palestinians have not changed the conditions for a diplomatic agreement which are unacceptable to a large portion of the public, and it is still happening,” Netanyahu expanded.

He said that Israel is succeeding in the diplomatic realm because it is “cultivating two kinds of strength, which together are bringing a third. We are cultivating as policy, economic-technological strength which allows us to cultivate Israel’s military-intelligence strength and their combination gives diplomatic strength and this is a different concept.”

A Polish official attempted to omit Jewish chapters from Poland’s history. It cost him his job.
Poland’s tourism minister announced Wednesday he fired the head of the national tourism organization after he said he wanted to remove the Auschwitz death camp memorial and a Jewish history museum from tours for foreign journalists.
Witold Banka said on Twitter he was dismissing Marek Olszewski immediately over “scandalous remarks” the head of the Polish Organization of Tourism made in Wednesday’s Gazeta Wyborcza daily.
The newspaper quoted Olszewski as saying he wanted to “promote the values of Poland’s culture” and had “no need to show places and events relating to the history of other nations.”
According to the paper, he had removed the site of the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz and POLIN Museum of the History of Poland’s Jews, in Warsaw, from tours for foreign journalists.
“Auschwitz is not a tourism product but a place of martyrdom and deep thought, while we do promotion of Poland as a tourist attraction,” Olszewski said.

Iran rejects US demand for inspection of military sites

Iran rejects US demand for inspection of military sitesIran's government spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht (ISNA)
Print Email 8 Comments
Iran has denied a US request for more vigilant enforcement of the Iran nuclear deal. Will Trump exit from the pact?
Iran on Tuesday dismissed US demands for the inspection of Iranian military sites by the UN nuclear watchdog, shrugging off a request by America’s ambassador to the UN as only a “dream.”
Iran’s government spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht told reporters that the demand by US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley wasn’t worth any attention. Iran will not accept any inspection of its sites and “especially our military sites,” he said.
In remarks broadcast by state TV, he said the sites and all information about them are “classified.”
Last week Haley said the US wants inspections of Iranian military and non-military sites to determine its compliance with the landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers. The deal saw Iran cap its nuclear activities in return for lifting of crippling sanctions.
The US and Israel suspect that Iran is using its military bases to proceed with the development of its nuclear program, while using the guise of “classified bases” to conceal their illicit actions.
The US demand for inspections is one element of a more aggressive approach to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. While the Trump administration seeks to police the existing deal more strictly, it is also working to fix what Trump’s aides have called “serious flaws” in the controversial agreement that — if not resolved quickly — will likely lead Trump to pull out.
In a televised interview later in the day, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also rejected the demands, saying “regulations dictate our relations with the (International Atomic Energy) Agency, not the United States.”
He said Iran was still committed to the nuclear agreement, but “we do not accept bullying.”

Ambassador Danny Danon announced a “victory for Israel in the Security Council” regarding the adoption of a new resolution forcing the UN peacekeeping mission to act against Hezbollah’s buildup.
Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon on Wednesday welcomed the adoption of a new Security Council resolution regarding UNIFIL’s mandate.
According to the decision made upon the annual renewal of this mandate, UNIFIL, the UN’s peacekeeping mission, is now required to expand its reports to the Security Council and take deliberate action against Hezbollah’s violations. UNIFIL’s presence on the ground will increase significantly, and troops will be required to tour the Hezbollah-controlled areas of southern Lebanon.
UNIFIL must also report all instances of Hezbollah’s violations and attempts to deny access immediately.
“This is a significant diplomatic achievement that could change the situation in southern Lebanon and expose the terror infrastructure that Hezbollah set up on the border with Israel,” Danon stated. “The resolution requires UNIFIL to open its eyes, and forces it to act against Hezbollah’s terror buildup in the area. We will continue the fight against Hezbollah and ensure that UNIFIL fulfills its duties on the ground.”

The bones of Jews “will end up in city dumpsters,” laments an activist fighting to stop construction of luxury apartments over Jewish cemeteries in Belarus, according to a JTA report.
A court in Belarus has rejected a motion to prevent construction of apartments atop two former Jewish cemeteries, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) reported.
Construction of apartments above a former Jewish cemetery in Gomel, eastern Belarus will take place despite a motion filed against the building plans by an American Jewish activist for the preservation of Jewish heritage sites in his native country.
The ruling at the Tsentralny District Court allowing continuation of the housing projects both in Gomel and Mazyr means that the bones of Jews “will end up in city dumpsters,” Yakov Goodman, who filed the motion, told JTA.
Last year, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makai and Lesley Weiss, chair of the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad, signed a joint declaration at the World Jewish Congress headquarters, stating, “Each party will take appropriate steps to protect and preserve properties that represent the cultural heritage of all national, religious, or ethnic groups that reside or resided in its territory,” according to JTA.
Goodman, however, believes that the signing has encouraged authorities “to further attacks on Jewish heritage sites,” the report said.

Defense Minister: No more lopsided prisoner swaps with Hamas

Defense Minister: No more lopsided prisoner swaps with HamasDefense Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yonatan Sindel/Flash90)
Israel will not agree to release Hamas terrorists in exchange for Israeli bodies, Liberman clarified.
Israel must not repeat the mistakes made in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange with Hamas, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Sunday in the wake of criticism directed against the government following Thursday’s resignation of Lior Lotan, the government official charged with negotiating the release of Israeli civilians held by Hamas and the return of the bodies of Israeli soldiers killed during the 2014 Gaza war.

Following Lotan’s resignation, the family of Lt. Hadar Goldin, one of two Israeli soldiers whose bodies are believed to be held by Hamas, said they felt “abandoned” by the government.

“Following Lior’s resignation, we feel that we have been abandoned by the government,” the family said in a statement. “Lotan’s resignation comes as no surprise, given recent events. Beyond the words ‘the government is doing everything to bring back Hadar and Oron [Shaul]’ the sad reality is that nothing has been done to bring the boys back.”

Haley rebukes UN peacekeeping commander in Lebanon for ‘blindness’ on Hezbollah

The US is demanding that the UN mission in Lebanon take meaningful action against Hezbollah’s military buildup.
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley sharply criticized the UN peacekeeping commander in Lebanon on Friday, saying he is “blind” to the spread of illegal arms and reiterating a demand that he take action against it.
With the peacekeeping mission up for renewal next week, the US has been pressing to step up efforts to tackle what Haley describes as a “massive flow of illegal weapons” to Hezbollah-dominated southern Lebanon, where neighboring Israel has long complained that the terror group operates with impunity.
The peacekeeping commander, Maj. Gen. Michael Beary, said there’s no evidence it’s actually happening and pushed back this week on US and Israeli criticism. The Irish general told The Associated Press that his force has no evidence of weapons being illegally transferred and stockpiled in the area, and that “if there was a large cache of weapons, we would know about it.”

Syrian rebels told to come to terms with Assad’s survival

The Syrian opposition’s chief backers are now more concerned with preserving their own interests than with unseating Assad, which could benefit Israel, as the US is focused on containing ISIS and Saudi Arabia on limiting Iran’s influence.
As Damascus reverses military losses in much of the country’s strategically important West and foreign states cut support for rebel forces, diplomats from Washington to Riyadh are asking representatives of Syria’s opposition to come to terms with President Bashar Assad’s political survival.
The country’s civil war has crossed the halfway point of its seventh year and Assad and his allies are now in control of Syria’s four largest cities and its Mediterranean coast. With the help of Russian air power and Iranian-sponsored militias, pro-government forces are marching steadily across the energy-rich Homs province to reach the Euphrates River valley.
Western and regional rebel patrons, currently more focused on advancing their own interests rather than accomplishing regime change in Damascus, are shifting their alliances and have ceased calls on Assad to step down.
“There is no conceivable military alignment that’s going to be able to remove him,” said former U.S. Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford, now a fellow at the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C. “Everyone, including the U.S., has recognized that Assad is staying.”

The Vatican’s security remains on high alert amid new threats against the Pope.
Pope Francis’ top aide says a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) group video that targets the pope is worrying, but notes Vatican security is already at a high level.
Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See’s No. 2 official, told reporters Saturday that a day earlier he had seen the video, which indicates the pope is a target. Recently, another video, transmitted on the pro-ISIS Telegram channel, suggested that Italy is the next target of an Islamic terror attack.
“Obviously, one cannot help but worry, above all for the senseless hatred that it is,” Parolin said.
But he said the Vatican hasn’t added more measures to its already high security.
The Vatican, headquarters of the Catholic Church, and Italy have previously been identified as possible targets of Islamist terrorism.

Deadliest outbreak of hepatitis A in decades kills 14 in San Diego
AUGUST 29, 2017
Fourteen people have died from an outbreak of hepatitis A in San Diego, and experts believe it to be the deadliest outbreak of the disease in the US in decades, the Guardian has learned. In large part, the victims were homeless people who have had to contend with a lack of 24-hour public restrooms, even though hand-washing is one of the best defenses against infection.
The number of cases has exceeded other large outbreaks, said a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) spokesperson, and is “likely the most deaths in an outbreak in the US in the past 20 years”, the period in which the CDC has operated its electronic reporting system. In 2003, three people died and at least 124 were hospitalized after eating contaminated salsa at a Pennsylvania restaurant. In 2013, 69 people across 10 states were hospitalized after eating contaminated pomegranate seeds.

Hamas leader admits Iran is aiding terror group
https://worldisraelnews.com/hamas-leader-admits-iran-aiding-terror-group/

Hamas’ leader has confirmed what Israel has been long warning about – Iran is backing Hamas’ terror activities in Gaza, as part of its regional plan to annihilate Israel.

Hamas’ new leader in the Gaza Strip said Monday his group has repaired relations with Iran after a five-year rift and is using its newfound financial and military aid to gear up for new hostilities against Israel.

The announcement by Yahya Sinwar came as United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was visiting Israel. At a meeting with the UN chief, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned about the rising anti-Israel activity by Iran and its allies in the region.

Iran was once the top backer of Hamas, an Islamic terror group that seeks Israel’s destruction. But Hamas broke with Iran in 2012 after the group refused to support Iran’s close ally, Syrian President Bashar Assad, in the Syrian civil war.

During a four-hour meeting with journalists, Sinwar said those ties have been restored and are stronger than ever.

“Today, the relationship with Iran is excellent, or very excellent,” Sinwar said. He added that the Islamic Republic is “the largest backer financially and militarily” to Hamas’ military wing.

It was the first time that Sinwar has met reporters since he was elected in February. The 55-year-old Sinwar, who spent two decades in Israeli prison after being convicted of masterminding the abduction and killing of two Israeli soldiers, has close ties with Hamas’ terror wing and takes a hard line toward Israel.

Sinwar would not say how much aid Iran provides his group. Before the 2012 breakup, Iran provided an estimated $50 million a month to Hamas.

Hamas Getting Closer to Egypt

Hamas violently took control of Gaza from the Palestinian Authority in 2007. Since then, it has fought three wars against Israel. Hamas has murdered thousands of Israelis in suicide bombings, shootings and other attacks. It is considered a terrorist group by Israel, the United States and the European Union.

Sinwar stressed that the Iranian aid is for “rebuilding and accumulating” Hamas’ military powers for a larger fight against Israel that is meant to “liberate Palestine.”

“Thousands of people work every day to make rockets, (dig) tunnels and train frogmen,” he said. “The relationship with Iran is in this context.”

He claimed Hamas does not intend to start a fourth war with Israel, instead preferring to remedy dire living conditions in the impoverished coastal enclave.

Israel and Egypt imposed a blockade on Gaza after the Hamas takeover a decade ago, attempting to thwart Hamas’ military buildup. Trying to pressure Hamas and regain control, Abbas has asked Israel to reduce electricity supplies to Gaza.

The result is that Gaza suffers acute power outages of up to 16 hours a day, unemployment of nearly 50 percent and widespread poverty.

Sinwar has turned to Egypt, which has begun to ease the blockade as it seeks Hamas’ help in controlling their border. The Egyptian military has been fighting an Islamic insurgency in the Sinai desert, near Gaza.

Relations with Cairo “have improved dramatically,” Sinwar said. Egypt has recently sent fuel to ease the power crisis in response to Hamas’ building of a buffer zone along the border.

“We will knock on all the doors, except that of the (Israeli) occupation, to resolve the problems,” he said.

Sinwar was among more than 1,000 Palestinians released by Israel in 2011 in exchange for an Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, whom Hamas kidnapped in 2006.

Sinwar said there would be no new talks over a prisoner swap until Israel frees 54 prisoners released in the Shalit swap that have been re-arrested after returning to terrorism.

“We are ready to start negotiations through a mediator, but only when the table is cleaned. Freed prisoners must feel they are immune.”

Palestinians give Trump 45 days to support two-state solution

August 23, 2017

Setting preconditions for talks, the PA will give the US negotiating team, arriving this week in the Middle East in an attempt to revive the peace process, 45 days to support their terms for a two-state solution.

The Palestinians will present President Donald Trump’s negotiating team with an ultimatum at their upcoming meeting with Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, will arrive in the region on Thursday accompanied by special envoy for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt and Dina Powell, deputy national security adviser. The team, hoping to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah before heading to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt.
The ultimatum states that unless progress is made within 45 days on launching talks with the Israelis, the Palestinians will consider themselves no longer committed to the US mediation and will turn to an alternative plan to push for unilateral United Nations recognition of a Palestinian state.

Israeli Mossad head Yossi Cohen cautions against Iran’s growing influence and menacing aspirations in the region, filling the void for ISIS.
Iran is filling the vacuum left by the Islamic State (ISIS) as its hold on territory in Syria and Iraq diminishes, Mossad director Yossi Cohen warned.
Briefing Israeli government ministers last week, Cohen said that the Middle East is “changing for the worse,” as Iran is spreading its influence both directly through Iranian forces and via local proxies in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
Cohen told the ministers that Tehran has not relinquished its objective of becoming a nuclear threshold state and that the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal with the P5+1 helped the Islamic Republic get closer to its goal and emboldened the regime in its regional aggression.
Cohen noted that Iran’s economy has grown since the signing of the nuclear deal.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Cohen’s warnings are further proof that the nuclear deal is seriously flawed. He pointed out that that Israel was not bound by international agreements signed by Iran, adding that Israel will continue to operate in various ways to protect itself from the Iranian threat.
Israelis fail to secure US guarantees on Iranian threat in Syria

US officials reportedly refrained from pledging to insist on the the removal of pro-Iranian militias at Israel’s border with Syria.
Israel remains concerned about Iran’s military buildup in southern Syria, at Israel’s northern border, despite high-level discussions between US and Israeli security officials in Washington last week.
The Israeli delegation that visited Washington included Yossi Cohen, head of Mossad and IDF Military Intelligence. The team, which met with US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell, Chief Negotiator Jason Greenblatt and others, was reportedly discouraged by the position taken by the US on Syria.
The delegation was sent to the US to warn against the military deployments by Hezbollah, Iranian forces and the Syrian regime, and to tell the US “exactly what is going on there,” according to officials. Such a military buildup directly threatens Israel.
Trump Administration’s ‘Lack of Clear Position’
Israeli media reports noted that the delegation shared “sensitive, credible and deeply troubling intelligence,” showing the expanding deployment of pro-Iranian forces in Syria, which estimates put at 500 Iranian army soldiers, 5,000 Hezbollah terrorists and several thousand guerrillas from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.

Iran: We need only 5 days to restart nuclear program

AEOI head Salehi warned that Iran could return to producing nuclear-bomb grade material within five days.
Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), warned Tuesday that the Islamic Republic would need only five days to ramp up its uranium enrichment to 20 percent, a level at which the material could be used for a nuclear weapon.
“If there is a plan for a reaction and a challenge, we will definitely surprise them,” Salehi, who also serves as one of Rouhani’s vice presidents, stated on Iranian state television. “If we make the determination, we are able to resume 20 percent-enrichment in at most five days.”
“Definitely, we are not interested in such a thing happening. We have not achieved the deal easily to let it go easily. We are committed to the deal and we are loyal to it,” he asserted.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani issued a direct threat to the West last week, claiming his country is capable of restarting its nuclear program within hours — and quickly bringing it to even more advanced levels than in 2015, when Iran signed the nuclear deal with world powers.

Billy Joel wears yellow Star of David at New York concert

Celebrity Billy Joel’s donning of a yellow Star of David at a Madison Square Garden concert was surprising, given his previous criticism of performers pushing their political agendas.
Famous American singer/songwriter Billy Joel made a strong statement Monday evening at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where he wore a yellow Star of David for his concert performance.
Ahead of World War II, Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe were forced to wear a yellow Star of David as a means of identifying themselves as Jews.
Joel, 68, was born Jewish but is not religiously observant and considers himself a cultural Jew. Known to refrain from making political statements onstage, his choice of attire – clearly a political statement – was unusual.
“I try to stay out of politics. I am a private citizen and I have a right to believe in my own political point of view, but I try not to get up on a soapbox and tell people how to think,” he told Rolling Stone Magazine in June.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will travel to Russia on Wednesday to meet with President Vladimir Putin regarding the threatening situation in Syria, fueled by Iran.
“Tomorrow I will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. I will be joined by the head the Mossad and the head of the National Security Council. I will discuss with him Iran’s accelerated attempt to establish a military presence in Syria,” Netanyahu announced Tuesday evening through his media adviser.
“This attests, of course, to Iran’s aggression which has not lessened in the wake of the nuclear agreement. This also presents a problem not only to Israel, but rather to all the nations of the Middle East and the entire world,” he declared.
Netanyahu held a security consultation earlier in the day regarding the trip.
“Israel has no objection to a (peace) agreement in Syria, but we are firmly opposed to such an agreement in which Iran and its proxies will be left with a military presence in Syria,” Netanyahu told Putin in a previous meeting.

State Department: Anti-Semitism pervasive in Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar

A US State Department report on religious freedom criticized Iran, Jordan, Egypt and Qatar for their prevalent state-sponsored and state-promoted anti-Semitism.
The US Department of State released last week its annual report on religious freedom in the world, which shows persistent levels of deep-rooted anti-Semitism in the Middle East, including two neighboring Arab countries with whom Israel has peace treaties.
The main sources of persecution vary among countries, with Iran spearheading the group of regime-driven incitement against the Jewish people, while Jordan, Egypt and Qatar face criticism in the report for allowing the widespread expression of anti-Semitic sentiments in private and state-owned media with impunity.

Japan minister sees unity with Trump, wants pressure on N. Korea

“Things have never been easier. We can have solid talks,” Japan’s foreign minister said about the Trump administration, adding that what is needed now is increased pressure on North Korea.
Japan’s new foreign minister is a reputed renegade, famous for bashing his ruling party’s policies with stands against nuclear power and for stricter checks on foreign aid.
Taro Kono, appointed earlier this month, said he won’t abandon his pet issues, but will make sure to send a united message when representing his country to the outside world.
In comments to reporters Tuesday at the Foreign Ministry, Kono was the mark of diplomacy when referring to Japan’s relations with the U.S., its most important ally.
He said he saw no divisions or confusion in the administration of President Donald Trump in his recent talks with officials, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Ambassador to Japan William Hagerty.
“Things have never been easier,” he said. “We can have solid talks.”
When asked about how some observers found Washington divided and confusing, Kono acknowledged that some changes were inevitable simply because Trump is a Republican, unlike his predecessor, Barack Obama.
But he said the basics of Japan’s relationship with the U.S. have remained the same, and such solidarity was important given the crisis over North Korea‘s nuclear and missile programs.
Kono, who has always tended to take a tough stand on North Korea, said continued pressure, not dialogue, is what is needed now to get it to abandon its nuclear weapons program.
Rhetoric between Washington and North Korea has heated up since the North’s two intercontinental ballistic missile tests last month. Some Japanese worry that regional tensions may escalate and that North Korean missiles may fly over Japan because of the North’s threat to launch missiles into waters near Guam.

Israel arrests Palestinian for inciting violence and terrorism on Facebook

Israel again takes action against a Palestinian using social media as a weapon.

Israeli police arrested a Palestinian over allegations that he incited violence and terrorism and expressed support for the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group on Facebook, an Israeli police spokesperson announced.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri stated on Sunday that the suspect, in his 40s from the Hebron area, was detained last Friday and was remanded on Sunday.

She said the case was opened several months ago after Israeli police monitored posts which he shared on his Facebook page expressing support of ISIS and its activities, including videos depicting executions carried out by the group.

She added that the suspect had been sharing such posts from 2015 until the present, and that he was detained “due to the seriousness and danger of posts that incite violence and terrorism.”

She said the investigation was ongoing.

Israel has recognized the threat emanating from incitement to terrorism spread on Facebook and has successfully acted against those who use social media as a weapon, helping to reduce a trend of attacks against Israelis.

Israel’s Haaretz reported in April that Israeli forces have detained at least 400 Palestinians in less than a year over incitement on social media.

Speaking in July 2016, Israel’s Minister of Internal Security Gilad Erdan slammed Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg for what he said was their partial responsibility for the wave of Palestinian terror attacks, which is fanned by incitement posted on Facebook and other social media outlets.

Erdan said that “part of the blood of the murdered is on Facebook’s hands,” and demanded that the social media network take action to combat the phenomenon.

“Facebook has become a monster,” the Israeli minister charged. “The discourse of the younger [Palestinian] generation on the web, all the incitement and lies, it all occurs on this platform. I am in support of Mr. Zuckerberg conducting self-monitoring.”
