“We cannot envision any situation under which the Western Wall would not be part of Israel,” a senior US official said. Palestinians “totally reject” statement.
By: AP and World Israel News Staff
Senior Trump administration officials outlined their view Friday that Jerusalem’s Western Wall ultimately will be declared a part of Israel, in another declaration sure to inflame passions among Palestinians and others in the Middle East.
Although they said the ultimate borders of the Israeli capital must be resolved through Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, the officials — speaking ahead of Vice President Mike Pence’s trip to the region — essentially ruled out any scenario that didn’t maintain Israeli control over the holy site.
“We cannot envision any situation under which the Western Wall would not be part of Israel. But as the president said, the specific boundaries of sovereignty of Israel are going to be part of the final status agreement,” a senior administration official said. Another official later added by email, “We note that we cannot imagine Israel would sign a peace agreement that didn’t include the Western Wall.”
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details of the vice president’s upcoming trip.

In reaction to the US’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the powers that be in the Christian pilgrimage site of Nazareth announced their intention to cancel Christmas “artistic performances.”
By: World Israel News Staff
While it was originally reported on Thursday that Nazareth mayor Ali Salam would protest the US’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital by cancelling Christmas celebrations, this policy was later clarified to explain that only “artistic performances on stages” would be eliminated.
Ali Salam, the Muslim mayor of the Arab Christian city of Nazareth, released a statement announcing that Trump’s decision on Jerusalem last week required him to show solidarity with the Palestinian Authority. “This is the natural reaction to a decision that impacts our nation and Jerusalem,” Salam announced in a press conference in Nazareth, reported TPS.
“We are part of one single people,” he continued, declaring that the US’ decision on Jerusalem had taken “all the joy” from the holiday period.
Nazareth, which Christians consider to be Jesus’ childhood home, is a major tourist destination and pilgrimage site. During the holiday season, the city hosts a Christmas market among a number of other celebrations that attract large crowds from around the world.

Israel is facing another year without sufficient rainfall. With advanced technology, however, water programs to make up for the loss.
By: JNS.org
Israel’s Meteorological Service has forecasted that the country should anticipate insufficient rainfall this winter.
The Israeli prediction—which is based upon assessments of December’s weather forecast as well as European weather models—comes as the Sea of Galilee (also known as the Kinneret), Israel’s largest freshwater lake and a primary water source, approaches a historically low water level.
Based upon weather models used by the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, the Jewish state has a 64.7-percent chance of insufficient rainfall during the country’s primary rainy season of December through February.
Israel’s Water Authority warned in October that the Sea of Galilee is critically low and in danger of reaching its “lowest level ever recorded.” As of that month, the sea was 703 feet below sea level, just a few feet above the historical low of 705 below sea level measured in 2001—beneath the water source’s so-called “black line.”

Prime Minister Netanyahu plans to develop solutions to force Hamas to return the bodies of Israeli soldiers and civilians held in Gaza.
By: Ilan Evyatar/TPS
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that he would convene the security cabinet Sunday to draft “legal, possible solutions” to pressure Hamas to return the bodies of Israeli soldiers and civilians held in Gaza, and called a High Court of Justice ruling requiring the Knesset to pass legislation on the matter “very problematic.”
“We must not give free gifts to Hamas,” Netanyahu said.
Earlier in the day, the Court ruled that “the State of Israel – as a state governed by the rule of law – cannot, in the absence of a specific statute, hold the bodies of terrorists for the purpose of negotiations,” the court wrote in response to a petition filed by the families of Palestinian terrorists whose remains are currently held by Israel.

Rutgers sanctions anti-Semitic professor

Rutgers University removed the culprit behind viciously anti-Semitic statements on Facebook.
By: AP and World Israel News Staff
Rutgers University removed a professor accused of posting anti-Semitic statements on Facebook from his position as a director at the New Jersey school.
Michael Chikindas will no longer serve as director of the Center for Digestive Health at the Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health, Rutgers President Robert Barchi said Friday. The tenured food science professor was also barred from teaching required courses and will take cultural sensitivity training courses.
Barchi called the situation “sad and deeply troubling.” He said the university is seeking further disciplinary action against the professor through the faculty union.
Chikindas shared over a period of several months anti-Semitic cartoons along with conspiracy posts that claimed 9/11 was orchestrated by Jews, according to university administrators.
Officials said Chikindas also referred to first lady Melania Trump and Ivanka Trump, daughter of President Donald Trump, as “sluts.”
Administrators said the posts “perpetuated toxic stereotypes” and were upsetting to Jewish students and staff at the university. The professor will be subject to ongoing monitoring “if and when” he returns to teaching, Barchi said.

Israel opening new international airport, expanding original one

Eilat will have Israel’s second international airport, set to open in four months’ time, as Ben Gurion Airport begins plans for expansion.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
The new Ilan and Assaf Ramon Airport near Eilat is almost complete, with a target opening date of April 2018. It has been designed to handle the growing number of low-cost flights to Israel, especially for the myriads flying from abroad during the freezing winter months to take advantage of the sun and beaches in the country’s southern-most city. Ultimately, the airfield will serve an expected 4.25 million internal and external tourists annually.
The new airport is designed to replace the two airports that currently service the city: the small one currently located in the center of Eilat that serves domestic flights from Tel Aviv and Haifa, and the Ovda military airfield 65 kilometers away that is used for international flights.
The new set-up will also enable the city to grow and develop. According to the plan, new hotels with 2,070 rooms and 1,000 apartments will be built on a 700-dunam (175-acre) site.

Abbas called Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital a “crime” that threatened world peace.
By: AP and World Israel News Staff
Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas said Wednesday that the PA will not accept any role for the US in the Mideast peace process “from now on,” following President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Abbas spoke at a gathering of heads of state and top officials from Islamic nations at an emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Turkey, in an attempt to forge a unified Muslim world stance against Trump’s move.
Abbas called Trump’s decision a “crime” that threatened world peace. He called on the United Nations (UN) to take charge of the peace process and create a new mechanism, arguing that Washington is no longer “fit” for the task.
The Palestinian leader also said that the Palestinians are committed to a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but that after Trump’s pivot on Jerusalem, Washington is not accepted as a fair negotiator.
Israel the ‘Terror State’
The Istanbul gathering of heads of state and top officials from the 57-member OIC could offer a strong response by the Muslim world to Washington’s move.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan— the current president of the OIC — called on countries to urgently recognize the Palestinian state and Jerusalem as its capital.

After posting Instagram pictures together with the Israeli contestant during the Miss Universe competition, death threats have forced relatives to escape to the United States.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Miss Iraq, Sarah Idan, became friendly with fellow contestant Adar Gandelsman, the Israeli contestant in the Miss Universe International Beauty Pageant held in Las Vegas last month. They even posted pictures together on Instagram, wishing “love and peace” to all – but the reaction of Idan’s fellow countrymen has been anything but peaceful.
So many people posted comments that cursed her for this act that the 27-year-old beauty queen felt she had to defend herself, noting in another post that the picture only showed her desire for peace and “does not signal support for the government of Israel and does not mean I agree or accept its policies in the Arab homeland.” And she apologized to anyone who considered it “harmful to the Palestinian cause.” But, courageously, she did not remove the photo from her account.

WIN Exclusive: Palestinians seek upper hand over US by snubbing VP PenceUS Vice President Mike Pence (AP)
Due to a potential tie-breaking vote on tax reform, US Vice President Mike Pence was forced to delay his visit to Israel, a move which the Palestinians have implied was in response to their cancellation of meetings with Pence.
By: Steve Leibowitz, World Israel News
The banner headline on the pro-Palestinian news site Middle East Eye reads, “US Vice President postpones trip to Israel, Palestine after Palestinians refuse to meet him.” In point of fact, while VP Mike Pence has delayed his Middle East trip by a “couple of days,” the decision has nothing to do with the Palestinians and everything to do with the US Tax Reform Plan.
While the Vice President was due to visit Israel this Sunday and Monday, including an address in the Knesset, his ability to break a potential tie in a Senate vote on the tax bill appears to have required the VP to postpone this visit to Tuesday or Wednesday. Pence’s role as a tie-breaker became much more critical after Tuesday’s victory by Alabama Democrat Doug Jones, capturing a Republican Senate seat and reducing the Republican majority from 52-48 to 51-49.
Pence’s visit to Israel will be part of a wider regional trip that will take him to Egypt and was supposed to take him to the Palestinian Authority as well.

Netanyahu: ‘Palestinians would do well to recognize reality, work toward peace’
“The Palestinians would do well to recognize reality and work toward peace, not extremism,” Netanyahu stated.
By Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the Palestinians to acknowledge reality, and by doing so advance the prospects of peace.
“The Palestinians would do well to recognize reality and work toward peace, not extremism,” Netanyahu stated at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem, at an event for outstanding Mossad personnel.
He called on the Palestinians to “acknowledge an additional fact regarding Jerusalem: Not only is it the capital of Israel but in Jerusalem we uphold freedom of worship for all faiths and it is we who are making this promise in the Middle East even though no one else does and despite frequent severe failures in this regard.”
In reference to the statement by Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas that the PA is withdrawing from all peace agreements with Israel since the 1993 Oslo Accords, Netanyahu stated that “all these statements fail to impress us. The truth will win in the end and many countries will certainly recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will also move their embassies.”
Abbas made the statements during an emergency meeting of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul that was convened in response to the US’ recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Tillerson: Jerusalem embassy move at least 3 years away

Tillerson: Jerusalem embassy move at least 3 years awaySecretary of State Rex Tillerson (AP/Susan Walsh)
US embassy’s move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is “probably no earlier than three years out,” said the Secretary of State.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stated that the move of the American Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv is “not going to be anything that happens right away … it’s probably no earlier than three years out.”
During remarks given on Tuesday at the State Department, Tillerson was asked about the challenges he foresees as a result of the move of the US diplomatic mission from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Tillerson stressed that the move is “not going to be anything that happens right away.”
“The President has been very clear in his direction to me and to the State Department that with this decision, and by the law – by the law of the 1995 law…we will begin taking the actions necessary to move the embassy,” Tillerson stated.
However, “we’ve got to secure a site that’s suitable. We’ve got to develop building plans that gives us the footprint that we believe we need to carry out the full complements of a mission in Israel, in Jerusalem. And then we have to build the building, and then we make the move,” he explained.
Therefore, “there’s nothing going to happen in the next couple of years because it’ll take us that time to get to a stage that we can begin to actually implement the building itself. So it’s probably no earlier than three years out, and that’s pretty ambitious as it is, but the President has said move ahead,” Tillerson said.

Trump’s UN envoy says “undeniable” evidence proves Iran is violating international law by funneling missiles to Houthi rebels in Yemen.
By World Israel News Staff
AP contributed to this report.
Addressing a press conference at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling military installation in Washington on Thursday, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley provided “undeniable” evidence that Iran is violating international law by funneling missiles to Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Haley unveiled recently declassified evidence, based on a new UN report, including segments of missiles launched at Saudi Arabia from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen.
The US welcomes the UN report, “as should every nation concerned about Iranian expansion,” she said. “We are grateful for the depth of the UN’s inspection and analysis… The report provides devastating evidence of missiles, conventional arms, and explosive boats of Iranian origin used by the rebels in Yemen – all of which violate UN resolutions.”
The ambassador repeated Trump’s announcement in October that the US was “taking a new approach to Iran by focusing on all of the regime’s destabilizing behavior. That means we are focused not just on the nuclear program. We’re also taking a hard look at Iran’s ballistic missile program, its arms exports, and its support for terrorists, proxy fighters, and dictators.”

As part of its war against incitement to terror, the IDF raided several targets, including Palestinian universities.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
IDF forces operating over the course of Thursday night raided several targets in Judea and Samaria as part of their ongoing battle against Palestinian terror.
On Hamas’ 30-year anniversary since its founding on December 14, 1987, IDF forces raided two Palestinian universities, the Al Quds in Abu Dis and Birzeit near Ramallah, and on printing houses in Hebron that produce materials inciting to terrorism. The forces seized and confiscated banners, flags posters and other materials.
Israel maintains that one of the driving forces behind the wave of terror attacks is incitement by the Palestinian leadership and clergy through its state and local media.

Sixteen rockets have been fired at Israel from the Gaza strip in recent days, and the feeling of trepidation is returning for residents of the border town of Sderot who lived through the traumatic experience of the Gaza war in 2014.
The IDF on Thursday issued a warning to Hamas that its “only option is to stop the rocket fire” and that Israel will not tolerate anything less than “complete quiet” on its Gaza border. But those warnings and IDF retaliation did not stop the rocket fire nor have they eased the fears of those living in the Israeli city closest to the Gaza border.

By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
Israel Air Forces (IAF) warplanes bombed Hamas targets inside the Gaza Strip on Wednesday night in response to three rockets fired at the city of Sderot earlier in the evening.
An IDF spokesman said the targets were Hamas facilities used as training and weapons storage compounds.
Earlier in the evening, an IAF Iron Dome battery successfully intercepted two rockets launched from the Gaza Strip towards Israel. An additional rocket was launched from Gaza at Israeli territory and fell in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council.
United Hatzalah EMS volunteers in Sderot treated a number of people for shock as well as one person who sustained light injuries to his legs while  running to a secured bomb shelter.
“The State of Israel will not allow anyone to harm or attempt to harm its civilians, and will continue to guard its sovereignty,” the IDF stated after its attack on Hamas.
The Hamas terror group did not fire the rockets, however, “The IDF holds the Hamas terror organization responsible for the poverty, destruction, and despair among the citizens of the Gaza Strip,” the spokesman stated.

Palestinian media claims the Israel Air Force killed two terrorists, and the IDF categorically denies the allegation.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
Two Palestinians terrorists were killed in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, apparently the result of a terrorism-related explosion.
Palestinian media reported that they were riding on a motorcycle when a blast killed them.
Israel’s Channel 2 reported that the terrorists were members of the Islamic Jihad terror group. The Palestinians claim they were killed by an Israeli missile, an assassination from the air.
An IDF spokesman denied the allegation, saying the air force did not carry out any strikes at the time of the explosion. He suspects they were killed by an explosive charge they were carrying, a so-called “work accident.”

Bill Clinton’s victim left out of #MeToo article – media ignores it
December 13, 2017
https://www.conservativeinstitute.org/sex-scandals/clinton-victim-media-ignores.htm?Bill Clinton’s victim left out of #MeToo article – media ignores it
Bryan Pearson / CCL
TIME magazine announced earlier this month that it had named the “the silence breakers” of the #MeToo movement as the 2017 Person of the Year, beating out star candidates like Colin Kaepernick and Robert Mueller. But not everyone is happy about the publication’s decision.

Juanita Broaddrick told Fox News host Martha MacCallum that she is “disappointed” by TIME’s decision to snub her in the publication’s #MeToo special edition.

Broaddrick publicly accused former President Bill Clinton of rape in the 1990s, and has rightfully been on a crusade against the Clinton family since.

“I Was ‘MeToo’ for Decades”
Broaddrick spoke candidly with MacCallum about TIME‘s “Person of the Year” issue on Monday, mentioning that she was disappointed in not being included in that particular edition.

“I was ‘me too’ decades before it was okay to be ‘me too,’” Broaddrick told MacCullum.

Broaddrick conceded that she was contacted by the magazine on Nov. 24 to find out if she “would be interested in participating in a story that they were doing about the #MeToo movement.” Broaddrick did decline at first, citing that she “was #MeToo decades before it was okay to be #MeToo” thus she “didn’t feel part of that,” but the magazine called again days later, asking a request for comment.

She told MacCallum:

I was very happy to do that. I supported these women; I thought they were brave women and I told her: “Yes, I would be happy to submit a comment.” And then a few days went by, and I was so happy when they were declared “Person of the Year,” and when I went to look for my comments, they weren’t there. That disappointed me.

“Fairness”
MacCallum, who noted that Broaddrick stood by now-President Donald Trump throughout the course of his campaign, also asked Broaddrick for her thoughts about the three women who recently repeated their sexual harassment allegations against the president.

“I think every victim of sexual abuse has the right to be heard and they need to have fairness accordingly,” Broaddrick responded. “I have no idea what is true and what’s not true. I can only speak to my own situation. It was something I lived through and that’s all I can speak to. I can’t speak to others.”

See Broaddrick’s full interview:

#MeToo Movement Grows by the Day
Tens of thousands of men and women worldwide have used the hashtag #MeToo in the last several weeks to highlight their personal tales of iniquitous, odious, and powerful individuals abusing their positions to take advantage of them.

And even beyond the Twitter hashtag, bombshell reports have been released by major publications, accusing big names of sexual improprieties. The past has come back to haunt A-list stars from Charlie Rose to Matt Lauer to Dustin Hoffman — but there has still been only a few mentions of former President Clinton’s escapades.

If Broaddrick’s account of TIME‘s interactions is correct, then the media is clearly still complicit in shielding the Clinton family. They are picking and choosing which women they’ll listen to and believe and women they won’t — and that is just disgusting.

By: World Israel News Staff
Terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at Israel on Tuesday, setting off sirens in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. The rocket fell in open space, causing no injuries or damage.
In response, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) targeted a Hamas military compound in the southern Gaza Strip.
While it is unlikely that Hamas fired the rocket, the IDF holds the terror group, which rules Gaza, accountable for all hostile acts originating in the Strip.
Recent days have seen a spike in rockets attacks from Gaza following President Donald Trump’s announcement that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. A total of 10 rockets have been fired at Israel in the past week.
A similar exchange of fire occurred on Monday night.

Israeli security discovered a Hamas plan to abduct Israelis over the course of the Chanukah holiday.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News Staff
Israeli security forces were successful in thwarting a plot by a Hamas terror cell to abduct Israelis over the course of the Chanukah holiday.
The Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency) revealed Wednesday that it exposed and has been tracking the cell over the course of the past two months. The plot was thwarted at its planning stages, after the cell had collected intelligence on their target area.
The terror cell, based out of the Palestinian village of Tel, near Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria, planned to pose as Israelis and kidnap an IDF soldier or Israeli civilian waiting for a ride.
The cell was led by Mouad Ashtiya, 26, who planned the attack, acquired the weapons, sought out possible hiding places for the abductees and recruited other cell members.
Mohamed Ramadan and Ahmed Ramadan, both 19, were cell members.
The group was in contact with Omar Asida, a Gaza-based Hamas financier entrusted with bankrolling Hamas’ operations in Judea and Samaria.

Analysis: Recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital equals recognizing reality

Analysis: Recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital equals recognizing reality Israelis dance with Israeli flag in the Old City on Jerusalem Day. (Nati Shohat/Flash90)
As the first US president coming from outside the establishment, Trump brings a fresh dynamic and approach to the Middle East and beyond.
By: Daniel Krygier, Political Analyst, World Israel News
US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has been predictably condemned across the Muslim world as well as among Western liberal political elites. According to the logic of Trump’s critics, recognizing the Jewish state’s capital is “undermining” the prospects for peace between Jews and Arabs.
Western liberal self-appointed Middle East experts continue clinging to the fallacy that all Middle Eastern problems could be solved if sufficient pressure is applied on Israel and Jews to give in to the Palestinian leadership’s genocidal demands. However, this failed policy has been tried for several decades without bringing Jews and Arabs closer to a lasting peace. Quite the contrary, Western leaders have effectively undermined any genuine peace prospects by encouraging Arab leaders to maintain their extremist positions towards Israel.
Western pro-Arab appeasement policies perfectly illustrate the popular definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. However, the Western establishment’s Middle East policy makers are not in a rush to adapt their policies to harsh Middle Eastern realities.
As the first US president coming from outside the establishment, Trump brings a fresh dynamic and approach to the Middle East and beyond.

Palestinian terrorists were again caught red-handed using an ambulance as cover for an act of violence.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
Masked Palestinian rioters in the Ramallah area were caught using an ambulance as a means of transportation on their way to a violent incident.
The IDF spokesman on Monday published a clip of a Red Crescent ambulance transporting Palestinian rioters to join a protest against IDF soldiers.
“This is an unacceptable and dangerous violation of the trust placed in medical organizations,” the IDF stated.
The use of ambulances as cover for Palestinian terrorism has been repeatedly documented. Most recently, on Saturday, the IDF published a photo of Palestinians riding in an ambulance while throwing rocks at IDF forces.
“The rioters knew that security forces in the field would not employ riot dispersal tactics against an ambulance, and they used it to harm the forces while shielding themselves,” the IDF charged.
On the morning of July 22, 2014, IDF forces engaged terrorists in the Gaza Strip, killing 10 of them. Other terrorists used an ambulance as a means to escape. In order to avoid the possibility of civilian casualties, the IDF did not target the ambulance.

A government crisis may be in the offing as the Yisrael Beiteinu party bucks the coalition over a law that would force closure of convenience stores on the Sabbath.
By: Steve Leibowitz, World Israel News
It took a 12 hour Knesset plenum, ending at 4:30 AM on Tuesday, before the coalition managed to pass the controversial so-called “Grocery store” bill on its first reading. The vote was 59-54 in favor of the legislation that would force the closure of stores on the Sabbath.
The ultra-Orthodox Shas and United Torah Judaism parties insist that the coalition advance the bill that requires stores to receive permission from the Interior Minister to remain open on Saturdays. Tel Aviv is exempt from the legislation because the Supreme Court recently ruled that the city can allow mini-markets to stay open on the Sabbath.

By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
IDF forces on Wednesday arrested Hassan Yousef, a senior Hamas leader, in the village of Beitunia, near Ramallah. The Israeli forces did not encounter resistance.
Yousef, 62, one of the founding members of the terror organization, was arrested for incitement to terrorism. Earlier this week, he called for a violent response to President Donald Trump’s historic recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Yousef was recently released from administrative detention. A main instigator of violence against Israel among the Palestinians, he has been in and out of the Israeli prison system for decades.
Yousef’s son, Mosab Yousef, code-named the “Green Prince,” was an Israeli asset working for the Shin Bet within the terror organization for a decade, helping to sabotage dozens of terrorist attacks. He subsequently fled to the US, where he advocates against Islamic extremism, violence and terror.

By: Jack Ben-David, World Israel News
The Jewish Agency’s chairman, Natan Sharansky, criticized the Jewish Reform movement on Tuesday following objections vocalized by the liberal stream’s leader to President Donald Trump’s declaration that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital.
“The Reform response to the recognition of Jerusalem was terrible,” said Sharansky in an interview with Israel Radio, adding that the movement persistently slams the US president.
“Everything said by Trump is bad, from their point of view,” Sharansky said.
“When the leader of a superpower recognizes Jerusalem, first you have to welcome it, then offer disagreement. This time it was the opposite,” he added in reference to Reform leader Rick Jacob’s hostility to Trump’s announcement that he had instructed the US State Department to begin making plans for moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Following Trump’s announcement, Jacobs said that his movement affirms a “long-held” view that Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, but decried the decision to move the embassy and what he implied was an inopportune time

The Republican loss in Alabama is a major embarrassment for Trump and a fresh wound for the nation’s already-divided GOP.
By: AP
In a stunning victory aided by scandal, Democrat Doug Jones won Alabama’s special Senate election on Tuesday, beating back history, an embattled Republican opponent and President Donald Trump, who urgently endorsed GOP rebel Roy Moore despite a litany of sexual misconduct allegations.
It was the first Democratic Senate victory in a quarter-century in Alabama, one of the reddest of red states, and proved anew that party loyalty is anything but sure in the age of Trump. The Republican loss was a major embarrassment for the president and a fresh wound for the nation’s already divided GOP.
“We have shown not just around the state of Alabama, but we have shown the country the way — that we can be unified,” Jones declared as supporters in a Birmingham ballroom cheered, danced and cried tears of joy. Still in shock, the Democrat struggled for words: “I think that I have been waiting all my life, and now I just don’t know what the hell to say.”
Moore, meanwhile, refused to concede and raised the possibility of a recount during a brief appearance at a somber campaign party in Montgomery.

Hundreds of thousands mourn ‘beacon of morality’ Rabbi Shteinman

Hundreds of thousands mourn ‘beacon of morality’ Rabbi ShteinmanMourners at Rabbi Aharon Yehudah Leib Shteinman's funeral in Bnei Brak. (Yonatan Sindel/Flash90)
A massive gathering attended the funeral Tuesday of Rabbi Aharon Yehudah Leib Shteinman, the head of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak and the leader of the Degel HaTorah political party’s Council of Torah Sages, who died the same morning at the age of 104.
By: Jack Ben-David, World Israel News
While masses packed into the cemetery in the ultra-Orthodox city of Bnei Brak to pay their final respects to Rabbi Aharon Yehudah Leib Shteinman, the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered his own moving tribute via video.
“Rabbi Shteinman was a beacon of spirituality and morality,” Prime Minister Netanyahu said in his address. “Everyone who knew him saw the great light that radiated from him: the light of the people of Israel, of the wisdom of Israel, and of the heritage of Israel.”
Rabbi Shteinman, the leader of the non-Hasidic Lithuanian ultra-Orthodox community and known for more moderate rulings, had been battling medical tribulations for months, repeatedly being admitted to hospital over the past year.
“His death leaves me with a deep feeling of loss. May his memory be blessed,” President Reuven Rivlin commented, referring to Shteinman as a “Torah giant.”
Shteinman had requested in his will that no eulogies be read out at his funeral procession itself, and his stated preference that “ten people would be enough at [his] funeral” was significantly exceeded.
In mid-November, Shteinman was rushed to hospital in serious condition and was once again able to recover and be transferred from the ICU unit.
Convalescing in a regular ward, he was once again taken to the ICU ward and again defied the odds as his condition was stabilized. On Tuesday, however, after repeatedly prevailing over his medical woes, Shteinman suffered a fatal heart attack.

By: Steve Leibowitz, World Israel News
Rather than repeat his support for a two-state solution, Prime Minister Netanyahu chose to tell European leaders that a “Palestinian state” may not be viable. Asked directly whether he still supports a two-state solution, Netanyahu responded by asking the 28 EU foreign minister whether such a state would be like “Costa Rica or Yemen?” The message was not lost on his hosts. The former is a stable democracy in Central America, while the latter is in a state of war-blighted anarchy.
Netanyahu told reporters on his plane home that European nations “spoil” the Palestinians while US President Donald Trump, by recognizing Jerusalem as Israelis capital was, “telling them the truth.”
Netanyahu said he spoke with the foreign ministers of “almost all of the 28 EU member states” and that the conversation was “respectful from both sides.”

“It’s unfortunate that the Palestinian Authority is walking away again from an opportunity to discuss the future of the region,” a White House official said of the PA’s boycott of Pence’s visit.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
A white House official slammed the Palestinian leadership for its boycotting of Vice President Mike Pence’s upcoming visit to Israel later this month.
The Palestinians announced that they will refuse to meet Pence in Ramallah, following President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Responding to the threats, Pence’s director of communications Jarrod Agen said on Sunday that “it’s unfortunate that the Palestinian Authority is walking away again from an opportunity to discuss the future of the region.”
Despite the Palestinians’ conduct, he stated that the Trump administration “remains undeterred in its efforts to help achieve peace between Israelis and Palestinians and our peace team remains hard at work putting together a plan.”
“The President has asked Vice President Pence to go to the region to reaffirm our commitment to work with partners throughout the Middle East to defeat radicalism that threatens the hopes and dreams of future generations,” Agen noted.
“The Vice President very much looks forward to traveling to the region to meet with Prime Minister Netanyahu and [Egyptian] President el-Sisi,” the official stated.
Jibril Rajoub, a senior Palestinian official, said Thursday that PA head Mahmoud Abbas would not meet Pence.
“In the name of Fatah, I say that we will not welcome [US President Donald] Trump’s deputy in the Palestinian territories,” he stated.

The IDF pounded Hamas targets inside Gaza on Monday night in response to several rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists at Israel earlier.

The terrorists fired one rocket towards the city of Ashkelon, triggering the siren system in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. The Iron Dome Aerial Defense System intercepted a rocket above the city.

No injuries or damage were reported.

In response to the rocket attack, an IDF tank and the Israel Air Force (IAF) targeted Hamas terror posts in the northern Gaza Strip.

Earlier in the evening, rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israel. Hits inside Israeli territory have not been identified.

In response to this attack, an IDF tank and the IAF targeted Hamas terror posts in the southern Gaza Strip.

“The IDF holds the Hamas terror organization accountable for this hostile act originating in the Gaza Strip,” an IDF spokesman stated.

Recent days have seen a spike in rockets attacks from Gaza, following President Donald Trump’s announcement that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Several rockets were fired at Israel from Gaza over the weekend, including one that hit near a home in the city of Sderot and another one that damaged a kindergarten. A third rocket was intercepted by an Iron Dome system.

Israel marks 100th anniversary of Allenby’s liberation of Jerusalem

Relatives of the British commanders were at David’s Citadel on Monday to commemorate December 11, 1917, the date when General Allenby arrived at Jaffa Gate and declared that Jerusalem had been liberated after 400 years of Ottoman rule.
By Steve Leibowitz, World Israel News
Throughout the history of Jerusalem there have been great historic moments. One of the most dramatic and legendary events was General Edmund Allenby leading his forces to liberate the ancient biblical city from the Ottoman Empire during World War I. On the afternoon of December 11, 1917, Allenby entered the Old City by foot, walking from Jaffa Gate to the Tower of David Citadel. There he claimed the keys to the city for the British Empire.
Jews celebrated the British arrival, calling it a “Chanukah Miracle,” while Christians termed the event “A Christmas Present.” Some 400 years of Ottoman Muslim rule had come to an end and the brief 40-year period of the British Mandate in Palestine had begun.
To mark the moment, the Tower of David Museum on Monday staged a reenactment of Allenby’s walk. Relatives of the commanding British generals Allenby and Major General John Shea attended the event. On the steps of the Tower of David, Mayor Nir Barkat welcomed Viscount Allenby of Megiddo and Felixstowe; Sara Viscountess Allenby; and the great-grandson of General Shea, Mr. John Benson.
Speaking from the same steps where Allenby had stood, outside David’s Citadel, Barkat told an international audience of approximately 1,000: “Allenby was a great military man as well as a distinguished thinker who understood the city of Jerusalem and its role in the world and that the city has unique properties as a uniting force for the entire world open and open to all peoples.”
In his proclamation, read to the city’s residents, General Allenby recognized the importance and uniqueness of Jerusalem and called upon the city’s residents to continue living their lives as usual and to enjoy freedom of worship, religion, and tradition under the patronage of the new government.
Representatives of different communities in the Old City were on hand on Monday to hear the same proclamation General Allenby had made when declaring the liberation of the city. The words were read aloud in English, French, Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, Greek and Italian. This was the first time in modern history that the Hebrew language received international recognition.
The English version reads: “Lest any of you should be alarmed by reason of your experiences at the hands of the enemy who has retired, I hereby inform you that it is my desire that every person should pursue his lawful business without fear of interruption… Therefore do I make known to you that every sacred building, monument, holy spot, shrine, traditional site, endowment, pious bequest of customary place of prayer, of whatsoever form of the three religions, will be maintained and protected according to the existing customs and beliefs of those to whose faiths they are sacred.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was out of the country, but his message was read out to the audience: “Today we recognize the commander who led the British army to the Land of Israel and to the gates of Jerusalem. We honor the fallen among the English, Australian and New Zealand soldiers as well as the Jewish soldiers who fought in the Jewish Brigade. They were part of an historic mission. We remember them and will appreciate their contribution forever.”
Jews constituted a majority in Jerusalem
Author Lenny Ben-David is currently writing a book on the period, titled World War I in the Holy Land Revealed in Early Photographs. The book contains chapters on General Allenby and the battles for Beersheba, Jerusalem and Damascus. It also includes stories about American ships that saved Jews, and spies in the Holy Land including prominent Zionists. Ben-David told World Israel News (WIN), “This year marks the centenary of a fierce World War I battle that not only saved Jerusalem from physical destruction, but rescued its entire Jewish population from squalor, starvation, plague, exile and death. In the scope of Jewish history, the liberation of Jerusalem in December 1917 ranks with the salvation holidays of Chanukah and Purim.”

Several hundred Arabs with Israeli citizenship rioted at various locations in northern Israel on Saturday in response to President Donald Trump’s historic recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The masked rioters blocked a main route and threw rocks at passing cars and buses. Three Israelis were wounded and several vehicles were damaged.
A mob violently assaulted an Israeli news photographer. While he was able to escape unharmed, his motorcycle was destroyed.
The wild protests were part of the larger Palestinian “day of rage” following Trump’s announcement that he recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and planned to move the US Embassy there.
In response, Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman said the Arabs of Wadi Ara, where the riots occurred, are “not part of us” and called for a boycott on the area.

By recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Trump has given a Chanukah gift to Israel as well as a Christmas present to himself by restoring the foreign policy power balance in Washington.
By: Daniel Krygier, Political Analyst, World Israel News
While US Presidents come and go, US Middle Eastern policies have been remarkably consistent for decades. The US State Department, not known to be a friend of Israel, has been calling the shots concerning much of those policies. By recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, President Donald Trump has given not only a Chanukah gift to Israel, but also a Christmas present to himself by restoring the foreign policy power balance in Washington.
According to US law, the Trump Administration was supposed to close the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Washington office because the PLO continues to incite against Israel and support terrorism. However, the US State Department undermined the president by deciding to reward PLO’s aggression against Israel and keep its office in Washington open.
Under President Barack Obama, the White House and the State Department both followed the same misguided policy that identifies the Arab-Israeli conflict as the root to all Middle Eastern violence and conflicts. The pro-Arab State Department traditionally sees Israel as the main culprit in the Middle East and its policies are based on this Orwellian viewpoint. The State Department has for years refused to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and systematically undermined any efforts to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Monday with 28 EU foreign ministers in a breakfast get-together in Brussels, Belgium. This is the first time in over two decades that a sitting prime minister has been asked to address such a gathering – made possible by the invitation issued by Lithuania, which holds the current presidency of the EU.
Netanyahu was welcomed by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, and they spoke about the major points that each would be making later in the morning.
The Israeli prime minister hit on themes that have become familiar in the wake of President Donald Trump’s announcement recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
He stressed that Israel is one of Europe’s protectors in the “common battle” they share against terrorism, insisting, “Israel is the strongest power in the Middle East that is preventing the spread of militant Islam, not only preventing ISIS attacks in Europe, but also preventing the collapse of many parts of the Middle East adjacent to Israel that would otherwise be taken over by these militant Islamists, driving many, many, many millions into Europe.”

The Knesset plenum on Tuesday voted on an amendment to the Hours of Work and Rest Law stipulating that before issuing permits to work on Shabbat, the Minister of Labor, Social Affairs and Social Services would be required to take into account Israeli and Jewish tradition.
MK Moshe Gafni of the United Torah Judaism party introduced the amendment. In the first reading, 50 lawmakers voted in favor of the legislation; 34 were opposed.
Under the proposal, the Minister of Labor would be empowered to define what work is permitted to take place on the Sabbath, the Jewish day of rest, based on a number of criteria, including the workers’ needs, the traditions of Israel, alternative solutions that would not require employing workers on Shabbat, as well as the level of harm caused to the public when considering granting permits for Sabbath work.
The bill’s explanatory paragraphs state that the prohibition on employing workers on Shabbat has two purposes: The first is the goal aspect of enabling workers to relax, and the second is the national and religious imperative of establishing the Sabbath as a day of rest in accordance with the State of Israel’s character as a Jewish state.
Coalition members belonging to religious parties introduced the bill, saying that the sanctity of the Sabbath day was under attack, pointing to increased construction over the weekend and several recent rulings by the High Court of Justice, which they say have eroded the Sabbath’s unique status.
“This is not Israel’s tradition, but religious coercion,” according to Yesh Atid Chairman Yair Lapid.

Lebanon: Mob storms US embassy over Trump Jerusalem declaration

Lebanese security forces repelled rioters who attempted to storm the US embassy in Beirut.
By: AP and World Israel News
A mob of Lebanese and Palestinian demonstrators violently clashed on Sunday with security forces outside the US Embassy in Beirut over President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The protesters gathered hundreds of meters (yards) away from the heavily-guarded embassy, where they burned an effigy of Trump, US and Israeli flags, as well as piles of garbage, sending plumes of smoke into the air.
As they hurled stones, security forces responded with tear gas and water cannons.
Lebanese security forces finally broke up the protest.
However, clashes resumed in the afternoon, with security forces chasing protesters, arresting a handful of them and lobbing tear gas canisters.
Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting for the scene, said “there is a lot of anger here. What they’re chanting is ‘Palestine forgive us, they closed the door on us’, clearly in reference to Arab leaders,” meaning that “protesters here feel Arab leaders have just been talking, but not taking any action. What people here are calling for is a new intifada and on the Palestinian Authority to end the peace process.”
The police cordoned off the embassy with high fences, and protesters did not make it anywhere near the embassy.
Lebanon is home to hundreds of thousands of so-called Palestinian refugees, nearly 10 percent of the population.

An interfaith group from Bahrain, in the area for dialogue, was met with violence in Gaza.
By: World Israel News Staff
An interfaith group from Bahrain visiting Israel and the Palestinian territories was welcomed with violence by a Palestinian mob as it attempted to visit the Gaza Strip on Monday.
Dozens of Palestinian activists gathered in front of the Beit Hanoun crossing in the northern Gaza Strip to prevent the Bahraini delegation from entering the Strip, the Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported.
The mob torched tires and chanted slogans condemning normalization with Israel.
One activist told Ma’an that they would not allow the delegation to enter and that they would treat them as enemies, while another said he had brought rotten eggs to throw at members of the delegation.
While organizers repeatedly described the trip as nonpolitical, the timing comes as Bahrain increasingly looks like the test case for other Gulf Arab nations in seeing what could happen if they recognize Israel.
A group of 30 people from Bahrain, including Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews and Muslims, flew to Israel for the event. They are visiting universities and talking to officials there about topics of common interest.

ISIS attack on NY subway was retaliation ‘for US military aggression’
December 12, 2017
ISIS attack on NY subway was retaliation ‘for US military aggression’ISIS-inspired terrorist Akayed Ullah. (New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission via AP)
The attack on New York’s subway system was retaliation for US military aggression against ISIS, the terrorist said.
By: AP
A would-be suicide bomber inspired by the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group strapped on a crude pipe bomb, slipped unnoticed into the US’ busiest subway system and set the device off at rush hour Monday in a scenario that New York has dreaded for years, authorities said.

In the end, the only serious wounds were to the suspect identified as Akayed Ullah, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant and former cab driver. But the attack sent terrified commuters fleeing through a smoky passageway, and three people suffered headaches and ringing ears from the first bomb blast in the subway in more than two decades.
“This was an attempted terrorist attack,” Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “Thank God the perpetrator did not achieve his ultimate goals.”
The suspect had looked at ISIS propaganda online and told investigators he acted alone in retaliation for US military aggression, law enforcement officials said.
In Washington, President Donald Trump said the explosion highlighted the need to change immigration policies, including the type of family-based visa Ullah obtained to come to the US in 2011. Such visas are “incompatible with national security,” the president said in a statement.
“America must fix its lax immigration system, which allows far too many dangerous, inadequately vetted people to access our country,” said Trump, who campaigned on cracking down on immigration.
Inspired by ISIS
The attack near Times Square came less than two months after eight people were murdered near the World Trade Center in a truck attack authorities said was carried out by an Uzbek immigrant who admired ISIS.
Law enforcement officials said Ullah was inspired by ISIS but apparently did not have any direct contact with the group
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said there was no evidence, so far, of other bombs or a larger plot. He said officials were exploring whether Ullah had been on authorities’ radar, but there was no indication yet that he was.
Cuomo said there was reason to believe the terrorist looked at bomb-making instructions online.

The wife of Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore defended her husband against accusations of bigotry by pointing out that one of their attorneys “is a Jew.”
Kayla Moore made the comment at a rally for her husband in rural Alabama Monday night. She said the “fake news” has flsely accused her husband of being against women in office as well as black and Jewish people.
“Well, one of our attorneys is a Jew. We have very close friends who are Jewish and rabbis,” she pointed out.
Kayla Moore said she wanted to clear the record for the large media presence at her husband’s final rally before Tuesday’s vote.
Speaking at a Monday night rally, the candidate urged his supporters to get to the polls Tuesday and called the article that first raised allegations against him “disgusting.”
Moore, 70, faces allegations of sexual misconduct involving teenage girls decades ago.
“If you don’t believe in my character, don’t vote for me,” he stated.
Moore, who was twice removed as state Chief Justice for thwarting court orders regarding the Ten Commandments and same-sex marriage, argued that the nation must “go back to God.”

The IDF has again exposed and neutralized a threat emanating from a Hamas terror tunnel.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
The IDF demolished a Hamas-built terror tunnel on the Gaza border, the second such incident in weeks.
An IDF spokesperson announced that the tunnel ran from Khan Younis several hundred feet into Israel’s Eshkol region. The tunnel could have been used to abduct soldiers or carry out a devastating terror attack within an Israel community.
The discovery was made several weeks ago with the help of advanced technology, the IDF statement said. The tunnel has since been under IDF monitoring until its destruction on Sunday.
The tunnel was “a blatant breach of Israel’s sovereignty, an unacceptable situation which prompted the IDF’s actions,” the military said, and its exposure was “an operational success based on advanced technology, a testimony to the IDF’s upgraded abilities.”
The operation to detect and demolish terror tunnels is an ongoing process, the IDF continued, pointing out that its capabilities to carry out this mission are constantly improving.
“The Hamas terror organization is the address and is responsible for anything that occurs in the Gaza Strip,” the military stressed. The IDF “is prepared for all developments.”

The Palestinians are pushing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to demand that the US reverse its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
At an emergency session of the UNSC on Friday convened by eight of the council’s 15 members, 14 member states condemned the US move.
“We are satisfied that there are 14 countries in the Security Council that are defending international law, defending Security Council resolutions as they relate to Jerusalem and rejecting the unilateral, illegal decisions by President [Donald] Trump two days ago,” said Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour.
Due to the US being one of five permanent members of the UNSC, the passage of a resolution on the matter is unlikely.

By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Paris Sunday morning for a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. From there he will leave for Brussels to visit the European Union (EU) headquarters – the first Israeli premier to do so in 22 years.
Before taking off Saturday night, Netanyahu said that while he ascribes “great importance to Europe” and respects it, he is “not prepared to accept a double standard from it.”
“I hear voices from there condemning President Trump’s historic statement, but I have not heard condemnations of the rockets fired at Israel or the terrible incitement against it,” he continued.
Netanyahu was referring to Trump’s historic recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the European reaction that mostly condemned the declaration, and the ensuing Palestinian violence and terrorism following the president’s declaration, which included rocket fire from Gaza on the Israeli city of Sderot over the weekend.

As part of the wave of rioting and protests in Israel following President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Israei capital, hundreds of Palestinians threw rocks and Molotov cocktails and rolled burning tires at IDF troops throughout Judea and Samaria on Saturday.
The IDF issued a statement describing an attempt by one group of rioters in Ramallah to use an Arab ambulance as cover while throwing rocks at soldiers, Times of Israel reported.
“The rioters knew that security forces in the field would not employ riot dispersal tactics against an ambulance, and they used it to harm the forces while shielding themselves,” the army said.
The usual methods used by security forces in such situations are to use tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets.

By: Steve Leibowitz, World Israel News
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu set off for a two-day trip to Paris and Brussels where he is certain to hear sharp criticism of President Trump’s initiative recognizing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital. Before take-off, the Israeli leader blasted European “hypocrisy” and “double standards” toward Israel and its capital.
Netanyahu said that he is not willing to tolerate some countries’ race to slam President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last week. Netanyahu told reporters, “While I respect Europe, I am not prepared to accept a double standard from it. I hear voices condemning President Trump’s historic statement but I have not heard condemnations of the rockets fired at Israel or the terrible incitement against us.” Netanyahu said that he plans to “present Israel’s truth without fear and with head held high,” when he meets European Union leaders on Monday.
Ahead of Netanyahu’s arrival today in Paris, hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists staged an anti-Israel protest on Saturday opposing the Prime Minister’s visit. Protestors carried photos of French President Emmanuel Macron marked “accomplice” for hosting Netanyahu so soon after US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Macron has actually spearheaded international opposition to Trump’s initiative along with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. The French leader has gone so far as to say that because of Trump’s action, the United States has sidelined itself as a Middle East peacemaker and he called the move “against international law.” Macron and Erdogan say they will work together to try to persuade the United States to reconsider the decision, a Turkish presidential source said on Saturday.

While Palestinian leaders clamored for “days of rage” and a new “intifada” in the immediate aftermath of President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, there have been disturbances, but no sign of an uprising.

By: Steve Leibowitz, World Israel News

In response to US President Donald Trump’s speech on Wednesday recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the “days of rage” promised by the Palestinians have yet to materialize. There have been three days of relatively mild protests, with only a few hundred eastern Jerusalem Arabs participating. In contrast, last July tens of thousands of Palestinians came out night after night in violent protest, after Israel placed metal detectors at the entranced to the Al-Aqsa mosque after the shooting deaths of two policemen by three Arab Israelis who had smuggled weapons into the site.

The Damascus Gate is often the focal point of protest and violence, but in the days after the Trump speech journalist’s outnumbered protesters. Overall, life in the Israeli capital has gone on normally.

Palestinian leadership called for a general strike across Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem but many stores stayed open on the main thoroughfares. Without Arab Jerusalemites taking part in protests in large numbers, experts say the protests cannot sustain themselves.

The IDF blasted back at Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip Thursday evening, following Palestinian rocket fire at Israel.
By: TPS
“The IDF struck two terror targets in Gaza in response to rocket fire from the northern Gaza Strip that landed in Israeli territory and to an earlier launch that landed within the Gaza Strip,” an IDF spokesman said. “The IDF sees the terror organization Hamas as responsible for events in the Gaza Strip.”
The IDF said the strikes on Gaza had been carried out with tank fire and from an aerial vehicle.
At around 6:30 pm sirens sounded in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council in the northwestern Negev. Security sources said no rockets fell in Israeli territory. An IDF spokesman said two rocket launches had been identified with both falling inside the Gaza Strip.
Later in the evening another launch was reported with rockets said to have fallen in open fields in Israeli territory.
Palestinians and security forces clashed earlier in the day along the Gaza border with reports of three Palestinians injured. Clashes were also reported throughout Judea and Samaria as Palestinians rioted following United States President Donald Trump’s declaration Wednesday night that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
A ‘Day of Rage’ has been declared for Friday.

Many countries reacted with condemnation and dismissal of Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
By: World Israel News Staff
Leaders from around the world condemned the US and President Donald Trump for his historic recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, calling for Jerusalem’s status to be resolved by negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.
Eight of the 15-member United Nations Security Council (UNSC) called for an urgent meeting to discuss Trump’s decision, according to media reports.
Britain and France, two permanent UNSC members, along with Sweden, Italy, Egypt, Uruguay, Bolivia and Senegal have called for the urgent meeting, which is expected to be held on Friday.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that “Jerusalem is a final status issue that must be resolved through direct negotiations between the two parties on the basis of the relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.”
“For my part as the United Nations Secretary-General, I will do everything in my power to support the Israeli and Palestinian leaders to return to meaningful negotiations and to realize this vision of a lasting peace for both people,” he stated
“In this moment of great anxiety, I want to make it clear: there is no alternative to the two-state solution. There is no Plan B,” said the UN Secretary-General.
British Prime Minister Theresa May stated Wednesday that she views Trump’s move as “unhelpful” for peace in the region.
“We disagree with the US decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem and recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital before a final status agreement. We believe it is unhelpful in terms of prospects for peace in the region. The British Embassy to Israel is based in Tel Aviv and we have no plans to move it,” May said in a statement.
The UK’s “position on the status of Jerusalem is clear and long-standing: it should be determined in a negotiated settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and Jerusalem should ultimately be the shared capital of the Israeli and Palestinian states,” she stated.

Jerusalem residents expressed a wide range of opinions about President Donald Trump’s speech, but there was unanimity in their belief that Jerusalem is already the Israeli capital. Reporter Steve Leibowitz and cameraman Dennis were out and about in Jerusalem the morning after Trump’s landmark address recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Israel has launched a campaign to encourage nations to follow the US lead by recognizing Jerusalem as capital of the Jewish state and moving their embassies there.

By: Steve Leibowitz, World Israel News

While many nations condemned US President Donald Trump’s announcement recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, others are already following America’s lead and exploring the idea of beginning the process of moving their embassies.

Within hours of Trump’s landmark address, the Czech Republic and the Philippines were reportedly in contact with Israel’s foreign ministry to discuss the issue.

According to Israel Radio, the Czech Republic said Wednesday night that it “recognizes Jerusalem to be in fact the capital of Israel in the borders of the demarcation line from 1967.” The Czech Republic, together with other EU member states, following the EU Foreign Affairs Council conclusions, considers Jerusalem to be the future capital of both states, meaning the State of Israel and a future “State of Palestine.” Israel Radio also reported that Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte sent an official message to Jerusalem declaring that he wants to move his nation’s embassy.

Speaking off the record, a leading Israeli expert in international affairs told World Israel News (WIN), “I do not expect an avalanche of countries rushing to Jerusalem. But there are some nations, like the Czech Republic and the Philippines, that want to find favor either with Israel or the United States, each for its own reason. The Czechs are kind of mavericks and feel close to Israel. The Philippines president is considered something of an international outlaw at present, widely criticized for mass extrajudicial killings, but he recently had a positive meeting with Trump and plans to visit Israel in May.”

Netanyahu optimistic about the future
The unnamed expert cited Macedonia, Hungary and Lithuania as very pro-Israel nations that may soon have an inkling to move their nations’ embassies.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly hopeful that several mostly Christian countries in Africa could be swayed to move their embassies. A warming in ties with the continent has been reported following the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Kenya.

Netanyahu announced that Israel is already in contact with other friendly nations in an effort to get them to follow Trump’s lead. Speaking at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, he said, “I would like to announce that we are already in contact with other countries which will issue a similar recognition.” Furthermore, “I have no doubt that the moment the American Embassy moves to Jerusalem, and even before then, there will be a movement of many embassies to Jerusalem. The time has come.” Netanyahu declined to name any of the countries with which the Foreign Ministry has been in touch.

Netanyahu, commenting on Trump’s speech, did not hold back on the hyperbole, saying, “President Trump has immortalized himself in the chronicles of our capital. His name will now be held aloft, alongside other names connected to the glorious history of Jerusalem and of our people.”

Most world leaders opposed to Trump’s message
Most world leaders speaking out on the issue were very much opposed to Trump’s message. France, Britain, Germany, Italy and Sweden were but a few of the leading nations issuing statements making it clear that they have no plans to move their embassies to Jerusalem. Most added comments advocating calm and a commitment to a negotiated settlement and a two-state solution.

Alan Baker, an International Law expert at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, told WIN, “Once the dust settles there will be movement toward Jerusalem. Currently there is a huge panic because of the dire comments by the French, British, Turks, Jordanians and Palestinians. When things settle down, I think the Australians will come along and I would hope that other friendly states will do so as well.”

Baker, a former Israeli ambassador to Canada, added, “I would expect Canada to move and it’s appropriate, but the present Canadian government has taken a step back from the former, more supportive government.”

Curiously silent on the issue in recent days is Russia. Last April, in a surprise move, Moscow announced that it considers western Jerusalem to be Israel’s capital. The Kremlin had issued a statement, reading, “We reaffirm our commitment to the UN-approved principles for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement, which include the status of East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state. At the same time, we must state that in this context we view West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”

Israel’s position: Jerusalem is the united capital
In May, Israelis and Jews around the world celebrated 50 years since the reunification of Jerusalem during the Six Day War. The official position of the Israeli government is that Jerusalem must remain the undivided capital of the Jewish state. Ahead of Trump’s speech, the leading opposition parties supported that position. Speaking Wednesday at the Jerusalem Post‘s Diplomatic Conference, Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid expressed hope that the president would recognize a “united Jerusalem.” Avi Gabby, head of the Zionist Union alliance, told Israel Radio, “Jerusalem will remain undivided under Israeli sovereignty in any future peace agreement.”

By misrepresenting a poster-burning “ceremony” as a reflection of widespread Palestinian rage concerning Trump’s policy on Jerusalem, the international media is once again complicit in promoting PA propaganda.
By: Bassam Tawil, The Gatestone Institute
A short three hours after US President Donald Trump phoned Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas to inform him of his intention to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a number of Palestinian photojournalists received a phone call from Bethlehem.
The callers were Palestinian “activists,” who invited the photographers to come to the city to document an “important event.” When the photographers arrived, they discovered that the “important event” was a handful of Palestinian “activists” who wanted to burn posters of Trump in front of the cameras.
The “activists” waited patiently as the photojournalists and cameramen set up their equipment to get the “important event” on film. Shortly thereafter, the media was abuzz with reports about “angry Palestinian protesters taking to the streets to protest” Trump’s intention to move the embassy to Jerusalem and his recognition of the city as the capital of Israel. The handful of Palestinians who were filmed burning the Trump pictures were made to look as if they were part of a mass protest sweeping Palestinian communities.
The incident represents yet another example of the collusion between the Palestinians and the media, whose representatives are always more than happy to serve as mouthpieces for the Palestinian propaganda machine and provide an open platform for broadcasting Palestinian threats against Israel and the US.

During a meeting held in Amman, the Palestinian Authority president and Jordan’s king resolved to try to prevent other countries from following the US’ lead in recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

By: Jack Ben-David

Jordan’s King Abdullah II met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas Thursday to discuss a coordinated response to US President Donald Trump’s speech the previous day in which he declared Jerusalem Israel’s capital.

Trump’s declaration, during which he also announced that he had instructed the US State Department to begin laying the groundwork for fulfilling an election campaign pledge to transfer the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, sparked outrage throughout the Arab world and ushered in a wave of condemnation from international leaders.

The meeting between Abbas and Abdullah was part of a series of talks intended “to discuss the changes happening on the ground concerning the holy city,” according to the WAFA Palestinian news agency.

Held behind closed doors, the meeting was also attended by Crown Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah and a Palestinian delegation including Chief negotiator Saeb Erekat, member of the central committee Hussein al-Sheikh, intelligence chief Majed Faraj and Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan Attallah Khairi.

Abbas and Abdullah said during the meeting in Amman that Trump’s declaration––hailed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as bearing equal historic significance as the Balfour Declaration, the founding of Israel and the liberation of eastern Jerusalem in 1967––was a violation of international law, with the king urging a continued momentum of international outcry in a bid to prevent any other countries from following President Trump’s lead on the status of Jerusalem.

‘Dangerous repercussions’
The two also reportedly discussed undertaking further efforts to inform the international community on what the Arab world has repeatedly described as the “dangerous repercussions” of Trump’s move.

Despite the US president’s declaration, the Jordanian king held fast to the notion that a future Palestinian state would include the eastern portion of Jerusalem as its capital.

“The issue of Jerusalem should be settled within a comprehensive solution that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital living in peace and security alongside Israel,” Abdullah said.

According to reports, the king said that efforts had to be increased to safeguard the rights of Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims living in the Israeli capital.

In advance of US President Donald Trump’s speech on Wednesday regarding the status of Jerusalem, Pope Francis said he was “profoundly concerned” about the decision to move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
At the end of his weekly general audience, attended by thousands of people, the Pope called for the status quo on Jerusalem to be preserved, saying that he was very worried because the American decision could “[add] new elements of tension to a global panorama” that is already marred “by so many and cruel conflicts.”
The US president had called many of the country’s allies to inform them of his decision ahead of the announcement.

The US has asked Israel to tone down its celebrations in response to the US recognition of Jerusalem as its capital in case of a violent Muslim reaction against American facilities and diplomats, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
The report is based on a State Department document asking Israel to “restrain” its “official response.”
“We expect there to be resistance to this news in the Middle East and around the world. We are still judging the impact this decision will have on US facilities and personnel overseas,” the document said.
The Palestinians, as well as Muslims around the world, have threatened a violent backlash to Trump’s statement.
Israeli officials responded to President Donald Trump’s historic announcement with warm statements, but other than Jerusalem’s Old City walls being lit with the US and Israeli flags, no special events were held.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary James Mattis and CIA Director Mike Pompeo all argued against US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital or the moving of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in the absence of a peace deal, CNN reported Wednesday.
According to the report, when President Donald Trump made clear his determination to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, they argued for him to sign a waiver delaying the embassy move by another six months, which he did. However, Trump did announce the US has commenced with preparations to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Trump’s Mideast peace envoys, Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt and White House senior policy adviser Jared Kushner, reportedly supported the move, but advised him to delay relocating the embassy .

Trump upset the Western liberal establishment by recognizing reality: “Israel has made its capital in the city of Jerusalem, the capital the Jewish people established in ancient times.”
This simple, straightforward statement reverses former President Barack Obama’s badly informed position of viewing the Jewish state as a compensating refugee camp for Holocaust survivors. Trump may not be a historian, but he recognized what should have been recognized long ago: the Jewish people is the indigenous nation of Israel and Jerusalem is the ancient capital of the Jewish people.
The American leader correctly reminded his audience that modern Israel is a sovereign nation that was recognized almost 70 years ago by US President Harry Truman. Like any independent nation, Israel chooses the location for its own capital. Imagine if the world attacked Britain and France for choosing London and Paris as their capitals.

Philadelphia Holocaust memorial to be renovated for 1st time in half a century

A new $7 million plaza to be constructed at the memorial site to honor the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazis.
A Philadelphia-based Holocaust memorial saw the first stages of a new renovation project worth $7 million Tuesday when officials gathered to launch restoration work on the old structure.
Located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the memorial is set to be spruced up for the first time in half a century following the announcement of a huge endowment six months ago by the non-profit Philadelphia Holocaust Remembrance Foundation (PHRF).
Speaking at the ceremony, the city’s mayor, Jim Kenney, said that the more nationalistic flavor that has permeated political and public discourse necessitates the new memorial plaza, which he said should serve as a prominent reminder of the consequences of extremism.
“In light of the toxic national rhetoric, it’s more important than ever that we properly commemorate the victims of this tragedy and never forget this dark period of history,” Kenny said.
The renovation, which is designed to enhance education and awareness about the Holocaust, will see the construction of a brand new plaza, along with more monuments to complement the main Six Million Jewish Martyrs statue.
Emphasis on education
With an emphasis on the educational aspect, in addition to the honoring of the victims murdered during the Third Reich, PHRF chairman David Adelman said that the planned structure should be thought of as an “outdoor living classroom.”

The anticipated deadline for President Trump to sign the waiver that prevents moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem has come and gone, but it may still be signed in conjunction with his expected declaration of US recognition of the Israeli capital.
By: Steve Leibowitz, World Israel News
According to the American law, US President Donald Trump had to sign a waiver by December 1st if he intends to delay a move of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem for six more months. He failed to do so. Does that mean that that embassy staff must immediately start packing for the move? Moving trucks have yet to be spotted on HaYarkon Street in Tel Aviv, and the apparent answer is “no.”
A White House spokesman confirmed Monday that Trump ignored the deadline, but indicated that he may still sign the waiver in the coming days with minimal or no consequences expected. Since December 1st was a Friday, the deadline was initially extended to the next full work day after the weekend on Monday, December 4th. The current date is December 5th, and that is unchartered territory as far as the waiver is concerned. Trump is due to make a major policy speech that relates to Jerusalem on Wednesday, December 6th. Speculation is rising that the waiver signing may come just before or after that speech, if it happens at all.

By: World Israel News Staff
Nabil Abu Rudeinah, who serves as the official spokesman for Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas, announced Tuesday that US president Donald Trump had spoken with Abbas regarding “his intention” to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“POTUS called to brief President Mahmoud Abbas on his intention to move the US embassy to Jerusalem,” tweeted the Palestine Liberation Organization’s negotiating office on Tuesday.
The tweet linked to a report published by WAFA, the official PA news site, which did not indicate whether Trump had provided a timeline for the embassy move.
This development comes shortly after Trump elected not to sign a waiver that would have permitted him to delay moving the embassy. The waiver process related to the embassy was instituted by a 1995 law that requires the US to relocate the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but permits the president to postpone the move every six months based on national security concerns.
Every sitting president since the law was enacted continued to sign the waiver, until Trump permitted the deadline for signing to pass on Monday at midnight.

Police Superintendent Micky Rosenfeld told World Israel News that while there are no specific warnings, “Our finger is on the pulse, and we are closely watching for developments.”
The working assumption among security officials is that an American announcement recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital would be perceived as a change in the status quo that could inflame tensions. By: World Israel News Staff
The US State Department has issued a warning to American embassies worldwide to enhance security ahead of a possible announcement Wednesday by President Donald Trump that the US recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Politico reported Monday.
The warning reflects concern that such an announcement could provoke fury in the Arab world, including mass protests and terrorism.
The Organization for Islamic Cooperation issued a statement on Monday condemning an anticipated announcement by the president, saying its 57 member states should sever ties with any country that transfers its embassy to Jerusalem or recognizes Israel’s sovereignty over the city.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah party called for mass protests “to confront this aggression not only against the Palestinians, but against Muslims and Christians all over the world.”
The Hamas terror group on Saturday called to renew the “Jerusalem Intifada.”
“The impending Jerusalem announcement has me very worried about the possibility of violent responses that could affect embassies,” one State Department official told Politico. “I hope I’m wrong.”
Trump is expected to make an announcement on the issue during a speech at the National Defense University on Wednesday.

A Russian Orthodox Church panel is claiming that the execution of the czar’s family was a Jewish ritual murder, while saying that such a claim is not anti-Semitic.
By: AP
The head of a Russian Orthodox Church panel looking into the 1918 killing of Russia’s last czar and his family says his statement that it is investigating whether it was a ritual murder has no anti-Semitic connotations.
Father Tikhon Shevkunov said Thursday that he was only talking about the “ritual revenge of atheist Bolsheviks” and never implicated the Jews.
Earlier this week, he said many in the church panel are convinced that the killings were “ritual murder.” That drew an angry response from Russia’s largest Jewish group, which denounced the words as a revival of anti-Semitic myths.
Nicholas II, his wife and their five children were executed by a Bolshevik firing squad on July 17, 1918, in a basement room of a merchant’s house where they were held in the Ural Mountains city of Yekaterinburg. The Russian Orthodox Church made them saints in 2000.
Some Christians in medieval Europe believed that Jews murdered Christians to use their blood for ritual purposes, something which historians say has no basis in Jewish religious law or historical fact and instead reflected anti-Jewish hostility in Christian Europe.
The speculation that they were killed by the Jews for ritual purposes long has been promoted by anti-Semitic groups.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party has been slipping in the polls. The latest survey has Likud even with Yair Lapid’s,Yesh Atid.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
If elections were held today, the ruling Likud would be in a dead head with the opposition Yesh Atid (There is a Future) party. Each of the top two parties would receive 24 seats in the 120-seat Knesset. The center-left Zionist Union would win 17 seats, while the ultra-Orthodox Sephardic party Shas would barely makes it over the threshold at four seats.
In a survey made public on Channel 10 news on Sunday, Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid party has strengthened considerably – more than doubling its current number of 11 Knesset members. Meanwhile, 24 seats for the Likud would mean a loss of over 20% of its mandate (down from the current 30).

American shopping frenzy hits Israel in long weekend of sales – and it continued on ‘Cyber Monday.’
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
In the United States, Black Friday is the informal name of the day after Thanksgiving, which is the fourth Thursday in November and a national holiday. But although all long weekends are conducive to shopping sales, this particular day has become renowned for the deals consumers can enjoy as it marks the beginning of the shopping season in the run-up to Christmas on December 25th.
It has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year in the US since 2005, with up to 30% of sales for the year conducted on this day alone. According to numbers reported by Walla News, in 2016 this meant that 154 million Americans either shopped online or went to stores across the country, and spent $655 billion.

Seven decades after US troops set him free, a Holocaust survivor is now saying thank you to wounded US veterans.
By: World Israel News Staff
Bernard Darty, a Holocaust survivor who has endured the worst at the hands of the Nazis, has donated $1 million for the benefit of wounded American US veterans, saying that he wishes to thank them for their sacrifice.
In a blog published by Fox News last week, Darty, a Paris native and retired co-founder of Darty Group, an electrical retailer operating more than 340 stores in three European countries, wrote that since the Holocaust and his liberation by US troops, he has felt “a deep connection to American troops for saving my life – a feeling that resurfaces every year on Veterans Day and throughout the holiday giving season.”
This year, at the age of 83 and seven decades after his liberation, Darty is saying thank you to the American soldiers of the 1940’s by donating $1 million to organizations serving wounded American veterans.
“My donation to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Services for Armed Forces program of the American Red Cross is my way of giving back, thanking previous generations of warriors for helping me. I hope this inspires others to give back as well,” Darty wrote.
“Even though more than 70 years have passed since my rescue, it’s not too late to give back.

Solar power set to bolster Israel’s renewable energy supply

With privatized solar power sources preparing to add 1,600 megawatts to Israel’s electricity supply in the next three years, the Jewish state is approaching its targets for renewable energy sources.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Israel’s Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy, and Water Resources, Yuval Steinitz, just published a new policy that will allow for 1,600 additional watts of electricity to be added to Israel’s electric grid exclusively through the use of solar energy over the next three years. This addition will permit Israel to reach 44% of the target it set in 2009 to have one-tenth of all electricity in the country produced from clean energy sources by the year 2020, reported Globes on Sunday.
Considering how sunny it is in Israel most of the year, it is not surprising that the vast majority of Israel’s renewable energy is solar – and yet, to date, only three percent of Israel’s electricity is produced from such renewable sources. The project now being pushed by the ministry is meant to change this percentage drastically in just a few years’ time.

Health Minister Yaakov Litzman (United Torah Judaism) submitted his official letter of resignation Sunday morning following a flurry of threats that he would quit the coalition over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s failure to agree to halt work on Israel’s trains during Shabbat.
Explaining his decision in his letter to finally follow through on his repeated ultimatums, Litzman said that work on Shabbat was “a contravention of halacha (Jewish law)” and “goes against the status quo.”
After vacating the post, Netanyahu announced that the portfolio would be placed under his direction.
Litzman elaborated on the reasons he had chosen to resign, charging that the government was in repeated violation of the coalition agreement reached at the time of its formation, which committed to maintaining Shabbat as an official day of rest on which no work is to be carried out.

About 100 companies operating in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem, as well as some 50 international companies, have received letters warning that they will be on a UN “blacklist.”
By: AP
Weeks ahead of the expected completion of a UN database of companies that operate in Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, Israel and the Trump Administration are working feverishly to prevent its publication.
While Israel is usually quick to brush off U.N. criticism, officials say they are taking the so-called “blacklist” seriously, fearing its publication could have devastating consequences by driving companies away, deterring others from coming and prompting investors to dump shares of Israeli firms. Dozens of major Israeli companies, as well as multinationals that do business in Israel, are expected to appear on the list.
“We will do everything we can to ensure that this list does not see the light of day,” Israel’s U.N. ambassador, Danny Danon, told The Associated Press.
The U.N.’s top human rights body, the Human Rights Council, ordered the compilation of the database in March 2016, calling on U.N. rights chief Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein to “investigate the implications of the Israeli settlements on Palestinians.”

Arab states will abandon Israel when Iran threat dies, security expert warns
 November 25, 2017
Arab states will abandon Israel when Iran threat dies, security expert warnsAn Iranian missile (AP/Vahid Salemi/File)
By: Ben Cohen, The Algemeiner
One of Israel’s leading national security analysts has urged caution in assessing a potential alliance between the Jewish state and the conservative Sunni Arab countries, pointing to the recent abandonment of the Kurds by the international community as a sobering reminder that perceived national interests invariably trump other values like loyalty and shared security.
“[L]et us suppose the Iranian threat disappears because Israel launches a successful attack on Tehran’s nuclear facilities,” wrote Lt. Col. (Res) Mordechai Kedar in a briefing for Israel’s Begin-Sadat Center for Security Studies (BESA).  “As a result, war breaks out between Israel and Iran (including Hezbollah), Israel sacrifices hundreds of soldiers and civilians – and the Iranian problem ceases to exist. Will the Arab and Western worlds be grateful to Israel and act to protect its interests?”
“The answer is simple: look to the Kurds,” Kedar – an expert on Syria who spent 25 years with IDF military intelligence – continued. “What happened to them will happen to Israel,” he said, in a reference to last month’s onslaught on Kurdish-held areas by Iranian-backed and Iraqi government forces following the September 25 referendum in which 93 percent of Kurdish voters opted for independence.

‘Kurds Fought ISIS…and Were Thrown to the Wolves’

“The Kurds fought ISIS, sacrificed their soldiers and people, and were thrown to the wolves once they had outlived their usefulness,” Kedar asserted. “That is exactly what will happen to Israel once it saves the Arab states from the Iranian threat. And why not? The immediate interests of each state, not the moral rights of the Kurds and the Israelis, are what make the world go round.”

“The Kurds expected the world, headed by the US, to stand behind them once ISIS was defeated, remembering their great contribution to that defeat and supporting their demand for independence,” he noted. “Those hopes were dashed very quickly.”

Revived concern over the prospect of a new war with Hezbollah on Israel’s northern border and the escalation of a bitter of war of words between the Saudi and Iranian regimes have fueled the expectation that Saudi Arabia and its allies and Israel will end their historic enmity. On Thursday, Saudi Crown Prince Muhammed Bin Salman described Iran’s “supreme leader,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as “the new Hitler of the Middle East” – echoing the language used by many Israeli and Jewish leaders in their responses to Iran’s frequent threats to eliminate Israel.

“Israel may indeed be the darling of the ‘moderate Sunni axis’ – for as long as there is an Iranian threat,” Kedar wrote. “Once that is gone, the possible fracturing of Iran into ethnic components (on the lines of the former USSR, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia) will obviate the need for good relations with Israel. For this reason, Israel would do well not to give up land for a piece of paper with the word ‘peace’ stamped on it. That paper can easily fly away in the desert wind while the words on it fade in the blazing Middle Eastern sun.”

Examples of Short-term Alliances: Jordan, Egypt
Kedar argued that in addition to the Kurdish experience, Israel’s peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan provided “two unassailable confirmations” of the perils of an alliance of short-term convenience.
“The [Egypt-Israel] peace treaty did not stand in [former Egyptian President] Hosni Mubarak’s way when he allowed Hamas and its supporters to smuggle arms from Sinai to Gaza,” he wrote. “It was in Mubarak’s interest to bring about a war between Israel and Hamas, because it allowed Israel to do Egypt’s dirty work with the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood (Hamas). As soon as Sinai became a haven of jihadism and began fighting Egypt, the weapons smuggling from Sinai to Gaza ceased abruptly. In short, the peace between Israel and Egypt exists so long as it suits Egyptian interests.”
On Jordan, Kedar said that “King Abdullah II changed his father’s [the late King Hussein] policies and is a strong backer of the idea of a Palestinian state in the West Bank with its capital in East Jerusalem. He acts against Israel in every international forum, as if he were one of its greatest enemies. He relates to the peace treaty as an agreement to refrain from war and no more, while enjoying its attendant economic benefits.”

Vanity Fair has provided a detailed account of how Israel’s elite intelligence unit allegedly obtained information that led to the exposure of an ISIS plot to blow up airliners.
By: World Israel News Staff
The Washington Post in May revealed that President Donald Trump had shared classified, highly sensitive intelligence with two high-ranking Russian envoys, Sergey Kislyak and Sergey Lavrov, during their visit at the Oval Office.
It has now been revealed that the sensitive intelligence, collected by the Israel, exposed an Islamic State (ISIS) plot to bomb airliners by planting explosives in electronic devices.
The exposure of the plot led to a four-month-long US and British ban on the use of electronic devices on flights originating from 10 Muslim countries.
Trump’s disclosure reportedly infuriated Israeli officials, as it was shared with the White House on condition that it would remain confidential. Intelligence sharing between the two allies, however, was not significantly hindered.

Israel’s Channel 10 news reported Wednesday that Pence will  address Israeli lawmakers on December 18th, during which he will focus on the threat posed by Iran, as well the as the persecution of Christians in the Middle East and Israel’s protection of its Christian population.

The United Kingdom is set to spend  78 million pounds to purchase a missile defense shield based on Israel’s Iron Dome to protect the Falkland Islands, British media reported Wednesday.
ccording to a report in the Daily Mail, the UK will install a Sky Sabre system, which employs the command and control system used by Iron Dome missile defense system. The command and control is system is produced by Mprest for Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
An UK Ministry of Defense spokesperson said that “following an open competition, we selected Rafael  to provide the main computer system which will link our state-of-the-art radars and new Land Ceptor launchers together to boost our defense of the Falkland Islands.”
The procurement from Rafael is part of a  280 million pound defense package for the Falklands announced by the British Ministry of defense in 2015, Israel’s Globes reported.
Natan Barak, chief executive of Mprest, told the Daily Mail that the system “can protect any area worldwide”.
“You have to identify, as fast as you can, which object is in the air, whether it is Great Britain’s or something else, and see if it is a threat,” Barak said. “It also has to be capable of integrating with launchers and missiles. Our system is capable of doing this very fast. We are going to be part of the NATO network and we are going to integrate our system with Britain’s command and control system. They will be able to operate and activate our system to fire on threats.”

The terrorist, Ahmed Majdi Muhammad Abid, 23 of Shajaiya, crossed the border fence into Israel and was immediately arrested.
During his questioning by the Shin Bet, he admitted to having joined Hamas’ ranks in 2013.
He underwent sniping, anti-tank and military engineering training, participated in terror-tunnel digging and worked for Hamas’ border security body.
Abid provided a large amount of intelligence on the terror tunnels built in his neighborhood f

Pakistani court frees alleged mastermind of deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks — which included assault on Jewish center — from house arrest.
By: The Algemeiner
The alleged mastermind of the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai — in which the Indian city’s Chabad center was one of the targets — was ordered released from house arrest by a Pakistani court on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
Hafiz Saeed — the head of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), a charity said by the US to be a front for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group — has been under house arrest since January.
Prosecutor Sattar Sahil told Reuters on Wednesday that a request by the government of Pakistan’s Punjab province for a 60-day extension of Saeed’s detention had been rejected by the Lahore High Court.
“His previous detention for 30 days is over, which means he would be released tomorrow,” Sahil was quoted as saying.

Report: Assad offers Israel buffer zone along Syrian border

A Kuwaiti newspaper maintains that the Syrian leader proposed a demilitarized zone along Israel’s border. The same publication claims Netanyahu is seeking the elimination of an Iranian presence near the Golan Heights.

By: World Israel News Staff

Embattled Syrian dictator Bashar Assad communicated to Russian premiere Vladimir Putin his willingness to establish a demilitarized zone along Syria’s border with Israel in the Golan Heights. The offer was revealed in Kuwaiti newspaper Al Jarida in a report focusing on Assad’s seemingly impromptu visit last week to Russia.

During the visit, Assad apparently asked Putin to communicate the offer to his Israeli counterpart, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reported the Jerusalem Post. While Netanyahu responded favorably to the offer, which promised a sizable buffer zone according to an unnamed Israeli source, the Israeli leader vowed to continue pursuing Hezbollah in Syria and to destroy any Iranian facilities within about 25 miles of Israel’s border.

Israel’s border with Syria has remained a problematic region, with fighting from the Syrian civil war occasionally spilling into Israel. Military activity within Syria, including arms movements, by Hezbollah and other factions has also necessitated IDF strikes during the past year, some of which were reportedly carried in the last few weeks. The recent collapse of the Islamic State (ISIS) has also affected the political landscape in the region.

In addition to military actions along the Syrian border, the IDF has also facilitated significant medical relief efforts for Syrian civilians, many of whom have been devastated by the civil war. Until recently, the situation in Syria remained a three-pronged conflict in which Assad’s forces battled rebel factions as well as ISIS.

While Assad’s offer regarding a demilitarized zone on the border on the Golan Heights is reportedly part of a larger agreement to stabilize relations between his nation and Israel, it is also likely that the alleged compact would require Israel to abide by Assad’s continuing  rule in Syria. The extent to which Israel is open to this possibility remains unclear, with the Jewish state objecting to recent ceasefire terms in the Syrian civil war that may permit Iran to increase its influence in the region.

Kushner under investigation for efforts to block anti-Israel UN resolution

According to the Wall Street Journal, special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating whether President Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner colluded with Israel to block a UN resolution condemning settlement policy.
By: World Israel News Staff
Special counsel Robert Mueller and his team are investigating White House senior adviser Jared Kushner’s contacts with foreign leaders, and specifically those with Israeli leaders, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The Journal reported Tuesday that Mueller’s team is probing Kushner’s involvement in an attempt to thwart a United Nations (UN) resolution passed in December 2016 that condemned Israel for its presence in Judea and Samaria.
Trump, who was president-elect at the time, called for the US to veto the resolution supported by then President Barack Obama, saying the resolution was “extremely unfair to all Israelis.”
The UN Security Council (UNSC) passed the resolution due to a US’ abstention.

Israeli army units in the Palestinian Authority-controlled city of Shechem (Nablus) guarded a massive prayer group at a Jewish holy site, and were separately called upon to save three Israelis whose car had been stolen and set on fire.
By: World Israel News Staff
Early Tuesday morning, IDF forces assisted around 1,000 Israelis seeking to pray in the town of Shechem, which is home to the Tomb of Joseph, one of the most important figures in the Bible. While the site has remained a major destination for Jewish pilgrimage, it has become increasingly dangerous for Jews to visit Shechem, now controlled by the Palestinian Authority (PA) which refers to the town as Nablus.
In addition to the large group of worshipers at Joseph’s Tomb on Tuesday morning, three other Israelis had independently entered the town without authorization from the IDF, which is prohibited. After the three had exited their car, the vehicle was stolen and apparently set ablaze by local Arabs. The IDF was then called on to locate and rescue the Israelis.
Since control of Shechem was transferred to the PA during the 1990s as a result of the Oslo accords, Arabs have committed a number of violent attacks on Jews visiting the area to pray at Joseph’s Tomb.

Former IDF Soldier, Left-Wing NGO Spokesman Caught Slandering Israeli Army
According to the Israeli State Attorney, the spokesman for ‘Breaking the Silence’, a former IDF soldier, lied when claiming that he personally used violence against a Palestinian while serving in the army.  Prime Minister Benjamin  Netanyahu accuses the left-wing NGO with intentionally  slandering the Israeli Army.
Israel’s State Attorney found that a spokesman for Breaking the Silence (BtS), an NGO that alleges abuses by Israel soldiers, lied when he claimed that he had beaten a Palestinian suspect.  Dean Issacharoff, spokesman for BtS had spoken of an incident where he claimed that he beat a Palestinian man whom he was arresting while doing reserve duty in Hebron.
The State Attorney closed the case on Thursday “after the investigation revealed that the events he described did not occur.”
The Arab man, whom Issacharoff said he had beaten, acknowledged that he had been arrested in February 2014, as Issacharoff said, but confirmed that he wasn’t beaten.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the latest developments in Syria.
The Kremlin said that Putin also called Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi to discuss the same issue.
Tuesday’s conversations  with Netanyahu and el-Sissi followed Putin’s calls with President Donald Trump and Saudi King Salman. They come a day after Syrian President Bashar Assad’s surprise visit to Russia for talks with Putin. The Kremlin says Putin and Assad discussed potential diplomatic initiatives for Syria ahead of a summit between Russia, Turkey and Iran and a new round of Syria peace talks in Geneva later this month.

More than 500 people from over 19 communities in seven countries were consulted in a survey conducted by a leading Jewish think-tank.
The Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) conducted discussions on Jerusalem around the world in the early part of 2017 and released its report on Tuesday, entitled “Jerusalem and the Jewish People: Unity and Controversy.”
While many discussion participants believe that Israel ought to take Diaspora Jewry’s concerns on a range of subjects into consideration, the report found that their support for Jerusalem remained heartfelt and strong.
Half “completely” agreed with the statement, “When visiting Jerusalem I feel at home,” and 30 percent more “somewhat” agreed with this statement. A Dialogue participant in Australia described his feelings this way: “I love the culture of Jerusalem, I would love to buy an apartment around the German Colony and spend six months of the year there. I could walk the streets all day. It feels safe. It feels like home.” A participant in Zurich commented: “Jerusalem is like an old spouse: she is not as beautiful as she once was, but she still means so very much to me.”

Trump puts North Korea back on US’ terrorism blacklist

Seeking to put “maximum pressure” on North Korea, President Trump has put the country back on the US’ state-supporters of terrorism blacklist.
By: AP
President Donald Trump announced Monday the US is putting North Korea’s “murderous regime” on America’s terrorism blacklist.
Trump said that the designation as a state sponsor of terror is long overdue, and promised a new wave of sanctions as part of a “maximum pressure campaign” over North Korea’s development of nuclear weapons.
North Korea will join Iran, Sudan and Syria on the blacklist. The North had been designated for two decades until 2008, when it was removed in a bid to salvage international talks aimed at halting its nuclear efforts. The talks collapsed soon after.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said designating North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism is part of a push to continue “to turn the pressure up.”
Tillerson addressed reporters at the White House on Monday after Trump announced that the US is putting North Korea on America’s terrorism blacklist.
Tillerson said that the message to leader Kim Jong Un is that “this is only going to get worse until you’re ready to come and talk.”
Tillerson noted that it had been about two months since the country tested a missile. “We’re hopeful this period will continue,” he said.
Tillerson conceded that the designation is a “very symbolic move” with limited practical effects.

“They don’t want peace, they simply want to delegitimize the State of Israel and destroy it as the Jewish homeland,” said one of the bill’s sponsors.
By: Jack Ben-David, World Israel News
Israeli lawmakers moved ahead in the Knesset Tuesday with legislation designed to target Israeli activists and companies that “systematically” call for boycotts, divestments and sanctions against Israel, making them liable to pay hefty penalties of up to NIS 500,000.
Spearheaded by Likud MK Yoav Kisch, the bill is the latest legal tool being sharpened by the Israeli government to puncture the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS), which has been inflated in recent years by the endorsement of prominent artists and musicians such as Roger Waters.
The new bill, which passed its initial reading by a vote of 60-40, is also the successor of a similar bill ratified in 2011 which enabled companies to demand compensation from activists calling for the boycott of Israeli firms located in various parts of Israel, including Judea and Samaria.
The law, however, was partially defanged by the High Court of Justice two years ago after it scrapped a clause allowing for the imposition of unlimited fines on the pro-BDS activists or companies.

Israel’s attitude towards any peace plan will be determined according to its security and national interests, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, while adding that “these were made clear to our American friends.”
Speaking at the beginning of the weekly Cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu related to news reports over the weekend that the Trump administration was at its final stages of drafting a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. Israel’s Channel 2 had reported that Trump’s peace plan includes the establishment of a Palestinian state.
“With regard to President Trump’s plan, we heard plenty of speculations over the weekend; I am not planning to address them.  However our attitude towards this plan will be determined according to security and national interests of the State of Israel, and these were made clear to our American friends,” he stated.
Earlier on, Netanyahu’s office categorically dismissed the reports as “not accurate,” adding that Israel’s “security needs and national needs of the State of Israel” would determine whether or not Jerusalem would approve of any peace plan

Rabin’s assassin Yigal Amir seeking retrial

Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked insists that Yigal Amir will remain in prison for the rest of his life.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
The man who assassinated Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin 22 years ago is in the process of preparing a motion which calls for his case to be retried.
Rabin was assassinated by  gunman Yigal Amir on November 4, 1995, at the end of a mass rally in support of the Oslo Accords at what was then called the ‘Kings of Israel Square’ in Tel Aviv.
Amir opposed Rabin’s peace initiative and particularly the signing of the Oslo Accords. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Larisa Amir Trimboblar, the assassin’s wife, announced on Faebook on Saturday that a Swiss law firm is preparing a case which will call for Amir’s retrial and ultimately his release from prison.
While Amir is not denying that he fired shots at Rabin, he is claiming that the bullets he fired did not cause Rabin’s death.
The lawyers for the assassin say they have found more than 18 points which they claim will challenge Amir’s conviction, and plan to submit their findings to the media.
Israeli leaders reject the notion of a retrial. Tweeting in response to the story, Minister of Education Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home) wrote: “The murderer of the prime minister must end his days in prison. On this topic, there is no [political] right or left. Every murder is terrible, but the murder of a prime minister can dismantle the country.”

Israeli Defense Minister: We need $5 billion boost to prevent next warIsraeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman (Ariel Hermoni/Ministry of Defense)
Israeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman says growing problems require a nearly $5 billion boost to security budget.
By: World Israel News Staff
Israeli Minister of Defense Avigdor Liberman has called for a significant boost to his ministry’s budget in light of a major shift in Israel’s defense necessities.
The ministry is seeking another NIS 4.8 billion that would be paid out over the course of three years to contend with a “dramatic change” in the threats Israel is now facing in the region.
According to Liberman,“There is a fundamental change in the security situation in the region which requires an increase in the defense budget.” Liberman added,  “Our primary goal is to prevent the next war.”
Russia’s growing military presence in the area, and specifically in Syria, the introduction of a precision weapons threat, and Iran’s dramatic military buildup are part of the “major” changes Liberman listed in his request for more funding.
The Ministry of Defense in 2015 signed a five-year budget plan, but Liberman says that these new threats and other were not taken into consideration when the budget was formulated.
He noted that Israel’s defense establishment has already exceeded the 2015 budget by NIS 1.8 billion in investment in new projects that were not included in the 2015 budget.
Liberman concluded by saying,“the IDF will deal with every challenge under any circumstance.”

Marking 40 years since Anwar Sadat helped usher in a historic peace accord, Prime Minister Netanyahu contrasted the former Egyptian president’s willingness to end conflict with the Palestinians’ recalcitrance.
By: Jack Ben-David
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday he regretted the fact that he had not yet met the Palestinian version of former Egyptian president Anwar Sadat, who signed a peace accord with Menachem Begin in 1979, and who “had a desire to end the conflict.”
Addressing the Knesset Plenum to mark 40 years since Sadat departed for an historic journey to Jerusalem to kick-start peace talks with Israel, departing from a long-standing policy of institutionalized animosity toward the Jewish state, Netanyahu expressed his “sincere regret, (that) I have not yet come across the Palestinian Sadat who will declare his desire to end the conflict, who will recognize the State of Israel in any borders, whatever they may be, and will support our right to live in peace and security.”
Highlighting the changes that are sweeping the Middle East, and seemingly referencing the bolstered, albeit clandestine, relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, Netanyahu implied that Sadat’s decision to normalize relations may be emulated.

Lashing out at Arab League for branding Hezbollah as ‘terrorists,’ its leader Hassan Nasrallah rebukes the claim while he admits to arming Palestinian groups in Gaza.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah admitted that his terror organization is providing arms to terror groups in Gaza, while insisting that Hezbollah is not a terror organization.
In a televised speech delivered on Monday, Nasrallah said that allegations made by Arab foreign ministers during an Arab League meeting on Sunday that Hezbollah was involved in terrorism were “silly” and “completely baseless.”
The Arab League declared Hezbollah a terror organization while accusing it of sending ballistic missile to Yemen’s Houthi rebels and saying that Hezbollah was responsible for the missile attack on Riyadh a week ago.
“I categorically deny any role of any member of Hezbollah in launching this missile,” said Nasrallah, saying that the terror group has not sent ballistic missiles, advanced weapons “or even a pistol” to Yemen, Bahrain, or Kuwait.

WATCH: First footage of Syrians crossing Israeli border for medical care
 November 21, 2017
For the first time, the IDF allowed journalists to film Syrians crossing the border en route to medical treatment at a hospital in northern Israel.

Unprecedented footage broadcast on Israeli television Sunday revealed Syrian women and children crossing into Israel for medical treatment with assistance from the IDF, in the latest showcasing of the Jewish state’s humanitarian aid to its war-torn neighbor.

The scope of the IDF’s “Operation Good Neighbor” mission had been revealed for the first time in July. The operation was initiated several years ago as an ad-hoc measure to treat Syrians who came to the border asking for help from Israel. The effort developed into an expanded program in June 2016 as humanitarian needs continued to grow.
“Our goal is to provide security and create good neighborly relations for people on both sides of the border,” Lt. Col. E (full name withheld for security reasons), the commander of Operation Good Neighbor, told JNS.org. “We will continue to do so in the best and most efficient way possible.”
According to the IDF, the operation has provided medical treatment to more than 4,000 Syrians, including hundreds of children. The military has transferred more than 119,000 gallons of heating and cooking fuel as well as 40 tons of flour, 225 tons of food, 12,000 packages of baby formula, 1,800 packages of diapers, 12 tons of shoes and 55 tons of cold weather clothing.
Additionally, the IDF is facilitating the construction of two clinics within Syria that will be run by local residents and NGOs to support some 80,000 Syrians living near Israel’s border in the Golan Heights region. Another clinic is being constructed on an IDF outpost on the Israeli side of the border.
Assaf Orion, a senior research fellow at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies, explained that since the start of the Syrian Civil War, Israel has been “wise to avoid being drawn into the quagmire, its policy focusing on safeguarding well-defined red lines” on issues such as cross-border attacks and weapons transfers to terrorist organizations like Hezbollah. Yet when Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime “attacked the Syrian populace, besieged its towns, starved them, and deprived them of water, electricity and medical services, Israel chose to reach out to communities across its borders,” he said.

Arab League harshly criticizes Iran, brands Hezbollah a terror group

The Arab League has stepped up its rhetoric against Iran’s belligerence in the region. But will they take action against the Shiite power?

By: AP

In a resolution long on rhetoric but short on concrete steps, Arab foreign ministers who met in Cairo Sunday delivered a tirade of criticism against Iran and its Lebanese terror proxy Hezbollah, saying Tehran was destabilizing the region.

The Arab leaders said they planned to “brief” the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Iran’s destabilizing policies in the region, particularly its support for Shiite rebels in Yemen, with a view to submit at a later stage an anti-Iran Arab resolution.

In what is perhaps the only concrete measure, the ministers said Arab telecommunications satellites would ban Iranian-financed television stations for what they said was their fomenting of sectarian and ethnic tensions and because they posed a threat to Arab security. It gave no details.

“We are not declaring war on Iran at this stage,” Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said. “We have not taken a decision to ask the Security Council to meet, but we are just briefing the council and maybe the next stage would be for us to meet and call for a Security Council meeting and submit a draft Arab resolution (against Iran).”

Lebanon, where Hezbollah is a key member of a coalition government, and Iraq, a majority Shiite nation bound by close political and religious ties to Iran, stated their reservations about the harsher parts of the resolution, including one that branded Hezbollah a “terrorist” organization. The draft also blamed the Shiite group of supporting “terrorist groups” across the region and supplying them with weapons, including ballistic missiles.

The Lebanese envoy to the Arab League, Antoine Azzam, made carefully weighed comments at the meeting that reflected his country’s delicate religious and ethnic balance.

While not mentioning Iran by name, he said Lebanon condemned all attacks against Arab nations, but blamed exploitable inter-Arab divisions that allowed international and regional powers to promote their interests.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee passed the ‘Taylor Force Act’ that cuts all funding to the Palestinian Authority until it stops financially rewarding terrorists.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
The House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday unanimously voted in favor of the Taylor Force Act which requires the US to cut all funding to the Palestinian Authority (PA) until it ceases financial rewards for terrorism.
The Taylor Force Act would require the US Secretary of State to verify that the PA has ended its policy of paying off terrorists and their surviving family members. The bill also calls on the PA to publicly condemn terror attacks and to take steps to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The legislation was named after American war veteran Taylor Force, who was stabbed to death in a Palestinian terror attack that left 10 others wounded in Jaffa last March. Force, 29, served tours of duty in the US Army in Iraq and Afghanistan and was a graduate of the prestigious West Point Military Academy. He was in Israel as part of a Vanderbilt University trip.
The US provides the PA with approximately $300 million in aid annually. The PA spends approximately $300 million in payments to terrorists and their families every year.

Charge sheet: 26 year old ‘Ahmad A.’ killed one person and wounded six others in supermarket stabbing spree.
By: AP and World Israel News Staff
German authorities indicted a Palestinian on murder charges for stabbing and murdering one person and wounding six others at a Hamburg supermarket in July.
The terrorist wanted to kill as many members of the Christian faith as possible to avenge what he considered to be injustices against Muslims worldwide, federal prosecutors said in a statement over the weekend.
He considered his actions a “contribution to a worldwide jihad,” they added.
“It was important to him to kill as many German nationals of the Christian faith as possible. He wanted his actions to be viewed in the context of an Islamist attack, and understood as a contribution to jihad worldwide,” the statement said.
The 26-year-old suspect, a rejected asylum-seeker identified only as Ahmad A. due to German privacy rules, was charged with one count of murder, six counts of attempted murder and six counts of serious bodily harm.
Prosecutors said investigators had found no credible evidence that Ahmed, who arrived in Germany in 2015, was involved with or had the support of any Muslim terror group, such as the Islamic State (ISIS) group. They also found no evidence that anyone else was involved in the attack.
The suspect carried out the attack on July 28 with a kitchen knife he grabbed from a supermarket shelf. He was then overwhelmed by passers-by and arrested.

Interior Minister Deri announced the barring of 20 European lawmakers from entering the Jewish state due to their BDS activity and planned meeting with imprisoned Palestinian terrorist Marwan Barghouti.
By: World Israel News Staff
Following up on government directives to deny anti-Israel activists entry to the country, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said he will adopt the recommendation of Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan to bar 20 European lawmakers from visiting Israel and the Palestinian Authority next week.
The delegation has 20 participants, including French parliamentarians and mayors, and members of the European Parliament. On the itinerary is a prison visit with terror chief Marwan Barghouti who is serving five life sentences for orchestrating three terror attacks that killed five people.
The BDS Movement attempts to delegitimize and isolate Israel in an effort to advance Palestinian interests. Many leaders of the campaign have publicly affirmed that they seek Israel’s destruction.
In August 2016, Israel established an inter-ministerial team tasked with tracking down and deporting anti-Israel activists who come to the Jewish State for the purpose of harming the country. The team also works to prevent the future entry of activists who operate for the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement.

A deal enabling Israelis to travel to the US without a visa is said to have been met with American demands, including permission for Palestinians with US citizenship to travel from Ben Gurion Airport.
By: Manny Ben-David
An agreement currently being finalized that would enable Israeli citizens to travel to the US without having to go through the cumbersome process of obtaining a visa is reportedly dependent upon the easing of Israeli travel restrictions for Palestinians with US citizenship.
The prospective visa waiver agreement, announced on Monday by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked following strenuous efforts taken by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit and Deputy Attorney General for International Law Dr. Roy Schöndorf, would see the eradication of a series of obstacles Israelis are currently required to pass in order to travel to the US, including interviews at the US embassy and the payment of hefty financial sums.

By: AP
The US plans to vote against a yearly resolution at the United Nations (UN) that condemns the glorification of Nazism, State Department officials said Wednesday.
Although it may seem counterintuitive, US officials said free speech protections and other problems with the resolution make it impossible for America to support.
Introduced by Russia, the resolution calls on all UN nations to ban pro-Nazi speech and organizations, and to implement other restrictions on Nazi speech and assembly.
That’s a non-starter in the US, where First Amendment protections guarantee the right to utter almost anything they want — even praise for Adolf Hitler’s followers.

A group of 5 Democratic congressmen on Wednesday introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, accusing him of obstruction of justice and other offenses, in a long-shot effort that seems doomed to failure in the Republican-led House.
Indeed, the large majority of Democrats seem intent on having nothing to do with the effort either as lawmakers await the results of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. Democratic leaders have argued that the impeachment campaign riles up Trump’s GOP base, a critical bloc in next year’s midterm elections.

Assassins shot Mohammed Al-Zawari, 49, multiple times at point-blank when he was sitting in his car near his home in Sfax, southeast of Tunis.
A truck parked near the home blocked the way to his car. Two assailants using weapons equipped with silencers rushed forward and shot him at close range, riddling him with some 20 bullets as he sat in his car.

Former concentration camp guards are facing justice more than 70 years after the Holocaust.

By: AP and World Israel News Staff

German prosecutors said Wednesday they have indicted two former Nazi SS guards on charges of being accessories to murder while they worked at a Holocaust concentration camp.

Both men served as guards at the Stutthof concentration camp, located near what is now the Polish city of Gdansk, Dortmund prosecutor Andreas Brendel told The Associated Press.

The indictments were filed against a 93-year-old man from Borken who served in Stutthof from June 1942 to September 1944 and a 92-year-old man from Wuppertal who was there from June 1944 to May 1945.

The charges were filed last week at the state court in Muenster but only announced Wednesday because the defendants first had to be notified. Both deny they had any knowledge of killings at the camp, Brendel said.

Stutthof was a Nazi concentration camp built in a secluded, wet, and wooded area near the small town of Sztutowo in the northern Poland. Stutthof was the first camp outside German borders, in operation from the German invasion in September 1939, and the last camp liberated by the Allies in May 1945.

Jews in Zimbabwe should stay indoors and Israelis should refrain from visiting the country, Israel’s Foreign Ministry said.

Jewish community leaders in Zimbabwe have instructed Jews residing in the African country to seek shelter indoors amid a developing military coup, Israel’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

Zimbabwe’s army said it has taken over the country’s capital of Harare, detained longtime President Robert Mugabe and his wife, and seized control of a state-run broadcaster.

According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, 172 Jews and Israeli citizens currently live in Zimbabwe, with 108 residing in Harare and 64 in the city of Bulawayo.

Israel’s Ambassador to South Africa Lior Keinan is in direct communication with the Jewish community in Zimbabwe as the situation unfolds.

The Foreign Ministry also issued a travel warning to Israelis, cautioning them against visiting Zimbabwe in the wake of the current disarray in the country.

The warning also suggests that Israelis currently in the southern African Nation remain in their homes “until the situation becomes clear.”

Israel has set up the Iron Dome defense system in the center of the country in anticipation of attacks by the Islamic Jihad and other terror groups.
By: World Israel News Staff
Amid warnings of planned terror activity in retaliation for IDF operations against the Islamic Jihad, Israel has set up Iron Dome batteries in several locations in the center of the country.
The IDF believes the terror group is planning an attack on the Jewish state following the Israeli military’s demolition of a Gaza terror tunnel two weeks ago. A total of 14 terrorists were killed in the aftermath of the tunnel collapse, including two senior Islamic Jihad field commanders.
Major General Yoav Mordechai, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), issued a warning Saturday night in Arabic in a Youtube video to terrorist groups in Gaza and Damascus that Israel will respond to any act of terror.
“We are aware of the plot that the Islamic Jihad has been planning against Israel,” Mordechai declared. “They are playing with fire.”

Jerusalem claims new US/Russian brokered ceasefire deal fails to provide secure Golan border.
By: World Israel News, AP and JNS.org
Israel has voiced sharp objections to a Syrian ceasefire deal because it enables Iranian forces gain a stronghold in areas close to Israel’s borders.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had intensively lobbied in Moscow and Washington for the agreement to create a 37-50 mile secure buffer zone between Israel and Syria, apparently to no avail.
“Israel has no objection to a (peace) agreement in Syria, but we are firmly opposed to such an agreement in which Iran and its proxies will be left with a military presence in Syria,” Netanyahu told Russian President Vladimir Putin in May.
Israeli Minister for Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi said Sunday that the agreement “does not answer Israel’s unequivocal demands that there will be no developments that bring Iranian or Hezbollah forces closer to Israel’s border with Syria in the north.”

Wonder Woman star reportedly refuses to do the sequel to her blockbuster movie unless accused sexual harasser Brett Rattner dropped as co-producer
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
Gal Gadot, the Israeli model-turned-actress who became an overnight superstar due to the smashing success of her role in the Wonder Woman movie. Gadot reportedly told Warner Bros. that if they don’t buy out co-producer Brett Rattner’s share she won’t be in the sequel.
Rattner’s production company, Rat-Pac Dune co-financed the hit movie, which grossed over $400 million at the box office, meaning that Rattner made a tidy sum from Gadot’s sparkling performance. Now, it seems, the actress who embodied women’s empowerment on film is taking a stand in real life to say that she will not help enrich a man who has recently been accused by six women of having sexually harassed them.
Rattner also directed hits such as Superman Returns and X-Men: The Last Stand. He has denied all allegations against him, through his lawyer. This doesn’t seem to matter to Gadot. Warner Bros. told Page Six, ““She’s tough and stands by her principles. She also knows the best way to hit people like Brett Ratner is in the wallet. She also knows that Warner Bros. has to side with her on this issue as it develops.”

OECD reports that in all 35 member countries, average life expectancy has increased by 10.3 years since 1970.
By: Batya Jerenberg, World Israel News
In its “Health at a Glance 2017” report, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) attributed a significant rise in life expectancy to healthier lifestyles, higher incomes, better education and improved health care.
Relative to OECD countries, life expectancy in Israel is high – 82.1 in 2015. Japan leads at 83.9.
The Central Bureau of Statistics also reports that Israel spends only $2,822 on average per capita. This translates to 7.4% of its Gross Domestic Product (including investments), a number that has been stable for an entire decade.
Among all OECD-member countries, the average spending per capita in 2016 was $4,003 – and in the US it is an eye-popping $9,892 per year, or 17.2% of the gross domestic product.
This is a strong indicator that spending more does not necessarily mean people are getting value for their money. American spending on health has increased much more than in other countries since 1995, says the report, yet life expectancy gains have been smaller. The US sits in the middle of the pack, at 81 years.

More than two dozen people related to Karoline Cohn, a young Jewish Holocaust victim, are to participate in a memorial ceremony for her, a Jewish girl from Frankfurt who was murdered by the Nazis.
He existence had been all but erased by the Nazis, until archeologists last year unearthed at the grounds of the former of the Sobibór Nazi extermination camp in Poland a silver piece of jewelry which bears the words “Mazal Tov” written in Hebrew on one side, and on the other side the Hebrew letter “ה” (God’s name) as well three Stars of David.
Among other personal items found at the death camp were a Star of David necklace, a woman’s watch and a metal charm covered in glass with an engraving of the image of Moses holding the Ten Commandments; on the reverse side of the charm was the inscription of the Jewish prayer “Shema.”
Through the use of Yad Vashem’s online pan-European Deportation Database “Transports to Extinction,” they were able to ascertain that the pendant belonged to Karoline Cohn. It’s almost identical to one belonging to Anne Frank, who was murdered in the Holocaust and is well known for the diary she wrote while in hiding in Amsterdam.

By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
A British anti-Semitism watchdog has called on Prince Charles to rescind a letter in which he made deeply troubling comments about Jewish refugees being a source of Mideastern turmoil and remarks about the power of the “Jewish lobby” in the US.
The Campaign Against Anti-Semitism (CAA) stated on Sunday, after the letter was exposed by the UK’s Daily Mail, that they view the letter’s contents as “disturbing.”
The CAA wrote that “it appears that our future king believed in 1986 that the ‘influx’ of Holocaust survivors to Israel were not ‘Semitic,’ ‘[the] cause [of] great problems’ including terrorism, and should be ‘eliminated,’ presumably through their removal.”
“The letter also appears to endorse the view that Israel is not simply the result of Jewish self-determination in the historic Jewish homeland, but the result of bullying by an all-powerful ‘Jewish lobby’ which holds US presidents in its clutches. We view these comments as unmistakably anti-Semitic,” the CAA wrote.

Iran has established a permanent military base in Syria, just 30 miles from Israel’s northern border.
By: World Israel News Staff
Iran’s military is establishing a permanent base inside Syria, just outside Damascus, BBC reported on Friday.
Citing a “Western intelligence source,” the report says that the Iranian military has taken over a compound at a site used by the Syrian army outside El-Kiswah, south of the Syrian capital and just a short 50 km from the border with Israel.
Satellite images of the purported site, commissioned by the BBC, appear to show construction activity at the site between January and October this year. The images show a series of two dozen large and low-rise buildings, likely for housing soldiers and vehicles.
The images do not reveal any signs of large or unconventional weaponry.
Independent analysis of the images says the facility is military in nature, but the BBC noted that it is impossible to independently verify the purpose of the site and the presence of the Iranian military.
Iran and its proxies have been supporting the Assad regime in the Syrian civil war and have deployed a force estimated at 500 Iranian army soldiers, 5,000 Hezbollah terrorists and several thousand guerrillas from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq.

Tens of thousands of Jews visited Hebron on Shabbat, setting an “all-time high.”
By: World Israel News Staff
Some 35,000 Jews were in Hebron over the weekend to celebrate Shabbat Chayei Sarah, during which Abraham’s purchase of the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron is recounted in the weekly Torah portion.
Shabbat Chayei Sarah has become a day for connecting world Jewry to the Jewish community in Hebron.
The Torah records that Abraham negotiated for and purchased the Cave of the Patriarchs from Efron the Hittite, a local resident. Abraham insisted on purchasing the cave because he wanted the Tomb of the Patriarchs to be preserved as Jewish property for generations to come.
For this annual event, Jewish residents of Hebron open their homes to visitors.
Thousands of Jews descended on the 2,000 year-old structure for Sabbath prayers, which included vibrant singing and dancing. The streets of Hebron and the suburb of Kiryat Arba were filled with tents and caravans.
Arutz-7 reported that Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel, Social Equality Minister Gila Gamliel, Environmental Protection Minister Zeev Elkin, Deputy Defense Minister Rabbi Eli Ben Dahan, Members of Knesset, rabbis, public figures, and guests from Israel and abroad all converged on the holy city. Uri Karzan, director of the Jewish community in Hebron, said the number of participants this year was at an “all-time high.”

The number of casualties following a powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake near the Iran-Iraq border is unconfirmed. Tremors were reported in Israel.
By: AP and World Israel News Staff
Iranian state TV says a 7.2-magnitude earthquake has jolted the region near the border between Iran and Iraq. The number of casualties varies according to various reports, with Sky News saying at least 10 were killed.
Faramarz Akbari, Ghasr-e Shirin’s governor, said that six people had died and scores more injured, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.
The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the quake on its website, placing its epicenter at around 32km (19 miles) outside the Iraqi city of Halabja, and issuing an “orange” alert for “shaking-related fatalities and economic losses.”
The semi-official Iranian ILNA news agency reported that at least 14 provinces had been impacted by the earthquake.
Iranian social media was abuzz with posts of people evacuating their homes, especially from the cities of Ghasr-e Shirin (near Iraqi border) and Kermanshah.
Esmail Najar, head of Iran’s National Disaster Management Organization, said “some injured people might be buried under the rubble in Ghasr-e Shirin”.
Iran is prone to near daily quakes as it sits on many major fault lines. In 2003, a 6.6 magnitude flattened the historic city of Bam, killing 26,000 people.

The IDF hit a Syrian drone flying near the Israeli-Syrian border, saying it appeared to be on an intelligence-collection mission.
By: TPS and World Israel News
Shortly before noon on Saturday, a UAV was intercepted by a Patriot missile as it approached the border between Israel and Syria on the Golan Heights, an IDF spokesman said.
The drone was flying over the demilitarized zone on the Northern Golan Heights. Apparently it was a Syrian army drone on an intelligence-collecting mission, the IDF said.
There have been several such incidents in recent months.
“Israel will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty and will react forcefully to any provocation,” Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said in response to the incident. “We see the Syrian regime as responsible for any violation of Israel’s sovereignty. We call on the Syrian regime to restrain all factions operating from within its territory. We will not allow the Shi’ite axis to become entrenched in Syria and use it as a base for forward operations.”

NYT: Trump’s Mideast team is drafting a new Middle East peace plan.
By: World Israel News Staff
President Donald Trump and his team have begun to draft a peace plan of their own to resolve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, the New York Times reported Saturday.
Trump’s Mideast envoy Jason Greenblatt and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, have visited the Middle East several times and have met with both sides over the past 10 months, and are now reportedly at the stage of drafting a document which they hope to present by early next year.
Greenblatt told The Times that the US has “spent a lot of time listening to and engaging with the Israelis, Palestinians and key regional leaders over the past few months to help reach an enduring peace deal.” Greenblatt cautioned: “The US is not going to put an artificial timeline on the development or presentation of any specific ideas. Our goal is to facilitate, not dictate, a lasting peace agreement to improve the lives of Israelis and Palestinians and security across the region.”
Trump’s team sees what the Times described as “the convergence of factors that make the moment ripe,” including a willingness by Arab states to solve the Palestinian issue so that they can refocus their attention on Iran, which they consider a major threat.

“It should be clear: Any retaliation of any kind by the Islamic Jihad will be met with a powerful and determined Israeli response,” Israel warned.
By: Aryeh Savir, World Israel News
The IDF issued an unusual and stern message to the Islamic Jihad terror group, warning of dire repercussions if it attacks Israel.
The IDF estimates that the Islamic Jihad is planning an attack on the Jewish State following the IDF’s demolition of a terror tunnel some two weeks ago. A total of 14 terrorists were killed in the aftermath of the tunnel collapse, including two senior Islamic Jihad field commanders.
The Palestinian terror group has vowed revenge.
In a message in Arabic published on Saturday, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) head Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai warned the Islamic Jihad to abandon plans to take revenge on Israel, saying that Israel knows of their plans and is prepared to repel them.
“It should be clear: Any retaliation of any kind by the Islamic Jihad will be met with a powerful and determined Israeli response, not only against the Jihad, but also against Hamas,” the Mordechai warned.

“Our Palestinian people, who have always loved you as a great leader, still have that love, respect and loyalty,” Abbas said in pre-recorded message honoring Yasser Arafat, a terrorist leader responsible for thousands of deaths.
By: AP and World Israel News
Tens of thousands of Gaza Palestinians marked the 13th anniversary of the Palestinian arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat’s death on Saturday for the first time since the Islamic Hamas group seized the territory a decade ago.
In the wake of a brewing reconciliation between Hamas and the Fatah party Arafat founded, Fatah supporters flocked to al-Saraya Square in Gaza City from all over the coastal enclave to commemorate the event, waving their yellow flag, raising posters of Arafat and donning his trademark kaffiyeh headgear.
Arafat, head of the terrorist Palestine Liberation Organization and president of the Palestinian Authority (PA), died in 2004 at a hospital in France after two years of an Israeli siege on his headquarters in Ramallah. Palestinians accuse Israel of poisoning him but offer no proof.

Leaked 1986 correspondence shows that Prince Charles espoused anti-Israel and even anti-Semitic notions.
By: World Israel News Staff
The United Kingdom’s Prince Charles alleged that an “influx of foreign Jews” was one of the causes of strife in the Middle East, while expressing his hopes that the “American Jewish lobby” would be confronted.
The British Daily Mail on Sunday revealed leaked correspondence between Prince Charles and his mentor, the Afrikaner explorer Laurens van der Post showing that the heir to the British throne blamed the “the great problems” in the Middle East region on the post-Holocaust immigration of European Jews to Israel.
Prince Charles penned the letter in 1986 after official visits to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar, which he called “fascinating” and during which he “learned a lot about the Middle East and Arab outlook.”
“I now begin to understand better their (Arabs’) point of view about Israel,” he wrote, “Never realized they see it as a US colony. I now appreciate that … it is the influx of foreign, European Jews (especially from Poland, they say) which has helped to cause great problems.”
Prince Charles also expressed hope that a US president would “have the courage to stand up and take on the Jewish lobby.” The US president at the time was Ronald Reagan.
Stephen Pollard, an editor of the Jewish Chronicle, criticized the prince’s use of the term “Jewish lobby” as anti-Semitic and said his views were “the absolute classic Arab explanation of the problems in the Middle East

Berlin police are investigating the vandalism of poignant Holocaust memorials in the city.
By: AP and World Israel News Staff
Berlin police are investigating the disappearance of more than a dozen Holocaust memorials called “Stolpersteine” (stumbling stones), which are small brass plaques placed in the sidewalks outside of the former homes of Jews and other victims of the Nazis in the German capital.
Police said Monday that residents in the central Neukoelln district reported the small memorials missing from several streets.
A local politician said he suspects members of the far-right are behind the offensive act.
The project was initiated in 1996 by artist Gunter Demnig, and seeks to bring back the names of Jews and others to places where they once lived. Each square plaque carries the name of the victim and information like when they were deported and where they were killed.
“It’s upsetting and it hurts,” Demnig said on Tuesday, according to Germany’s Deutsche Welle.
There are more than 60,000 of the plaques installed across Europe.

Israel deploys ‘Iron Dome’ missile defense amid terror threats

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also warned Palestinian terror groups not to attack Israel. “We will take a very firm stance against anyone who tries to attack us or attacks us from any area. I mean any source: rogue factions, organizations – anyone,” he asserted Sunday morning at the weekly cabinet meeting.

In response, the Islamic Jihad vowed to carry out attacks, calling the Israeli threats an “act of war.”

Adding to the tension, IDF forces on Sunday night apprehended a senior Islamic Jihad operative in the Palestinian town of Araba, in the Jenin area.
