God’s rest!

"Therefore, while the promise to enter His rest remains, let us fear that none of you should miss it." Hebrews 4:1.

The word rest has several meanings in Scripture.

First, it refers to the way God rested on the seventh day following six days of creation.
Closely related to this meaning is the command to believers to rest on the Sabbath.

The Bible also uses the word rest to describe the Israelites’ possession of the Promised Land following 40 years of wandering.

Rest also refers to our eternal life with Christ in the future.

Today’s key verse warned readers against the peril of rejecting the rest or peace we have with God as we place our faith in Christ.

If we hear the gospel but fail to respond in faith to its message-
- we will miss the blessings of knowing Christ in this life and of being in His presence for eternity.

Take a few moments to make sure you’ve entered into God’s rest through faith in Christ.
Let His peace engulf you.

Next, ask God for opportunities to share Christ with other people.
Pray that no one will miss God’s rest!

"Father, thank You for giving me Your rest through faith in Christ. Help me experience and share it! Amen!"

The gospel

"I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes." Romans 1:16.

The word "gospel" means good news-
- the Good News of God's salvation,
- without which mankind would be doomed for eternal damnation and separation from God,
- the author of all love and life.

But why is the gospel God's Good News?

First-
The gospel is not a message about religion!
It is a message about our relationship with God!

It is a message about God's eternal love and purpose for all mankind.

Religion wants to fix us from the outside in.
God wants to fix us from the inside out.

The first can become an impossible burden.
The latter is what brings freedom.

Also, it's important to realize that no matter what we have ever done or have failed to do God loves us with an everlasting love and has a wonderful purpose for our lives—for this life and the next!

As Jesus said, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16.
And again, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10.

Second-
The gospel is a message about realization!
Realizing about sin, something we are all guilty of.

As the Bible says, "We have all sinned and fallen short of God's standard." Romans 3:23.

Sin, however, is not only doing harmful acts.
It is anything that falls short of the standard of perfection that God envisioned for us.
This includes unforgiveness, pride, jealousy, mixed motives, etc.

Most of us, too, are guilty of sins of omission; that is, not doing what we know we should and could do.James 4:17.

If we try to break the universal law of gravity, for instance, we can't.
It will break us.

Neither can we break God's universal moral law.
When we try to, it breaks us.

And besides its painful effects in this life—suffering, sorrow, sadness, sickness and spiritual death—its ultimate and tragic consequence is eternal death and separation from God. Romans 6:23.

Third-
The gospel is a message about God's remedy.

Because sin has separated or disconnected us from God, we have been left with a "God-shaped" vacuum or spiritual emptiness within.

As Augustine put it, "You have made us for yourself, O God, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you."

The world's many religions are all evidence of man's endless search to find God and fill this vacuum.

However, because God loves us so much, he sent his own sinless son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our predicament. Ephesians 2:8-9.

Christ did this by dying on the cross in our place to pay the consequence of and ransom price for our sins—death.
Thus, Jesus Christ is God's only provision for our sin.
He is the only way back to God and the only door to eternal life. John 14:6.

Finally-
The gospel is a summons repentance!

If you were found guilty of a serious crime and were condemned to death, would you accept a free unconditional pardon, if offered?

Because Jesus Christ died on the cross in our place, God now offers you complete acquittal, forgiveness, and the gift of eternal life. Romans 5:8.

All you need to do is confess and repent of your sinfulness, believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died for your sins, and invite him into your life as Saviour and Lord.

The following prayer will help you do this:
"Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner and am sorry for all the wrongs I have done. I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross for my sins. Please forgive me for all my sins and I invite You, Jesus, to come into my heart and life as Saviour and Lord. I commit and trust my life to You.
Please give me the desire to be what You want me to be and the desire to do what You want me to do.
Thank You for dying for my sins, for Your forgiveness and free pardon, for Your gift of eternal life, and for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully in Jesus's Name, Amen."

Gospel from ASIA
Lost?

“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?” Luke 9:25.

In these days of progressive preaching-
- we don't hear much about the prospect of being lost!

But Jesus came “to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10.

We can hardly talk about the gospel and not discuss the consequences of refusing the gospel.

Jesus did not go to the cross to keep us from losing our happiness in this world.
He went to the cross to keep His Father from losing the human race forever.

How can we love God and not contemplate what it would mean for us to continue in our sin?

If any soul refuses His reconciliation-
- look at what will be lost.

What we will lose.

To say “no” to God’s offer of pardon would mean-
- throwing away everything we were created to enjoy.

It would mean losing everything “life” was ever meant to be.

And far worse than every other loss-
- it would mean losing our Creator Himself.
Eternity would be the unending learning of our losses.

What heaven will lose.

If the angels rejoice when any lost soul is reclaimed-
- it must surely be that the angels weep when any soul refuses to be reclaimed. Luke 15:7.

Every creature of God is precious to the inhabitants of heaven.

The loss of even one is a tragedy that will not be taken dispassionately by those around God’s throne.

What God will lose.

God has far more at stake in our salvation than we do.
He has more invested in us than we have invested in Him.

And so if we are lost-
He will lose far more than we.

What did He create us to be?
That will be lost.

What could we have been?
That will be lost.

What did Christ die to make possible?
That will be lost.

God waits before bringing to pass the Day of Judgment-
- hoping that more might be rescued and fewer lost
- but the time will come when judgment cannot be delayed any longer,
- and on that Day, God will lose many of His sons and His daughters.2 Peter 3:9.

No greater tragedy is thinkable.
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?”

“The man who dies out of Christ is said to be lost, and hardly a word in the English language expresses his condition with greater accuracy. He has squandered a rare fortune and at the last he stands for a fleeting moment and looks around, a moral fool, a wastrel who has lost in one overwhelming and irrevocable loss, his soul, his life, his peace, his total, mysterious personality, his dear and everlasting all.”-A. W. Tozer.

"Gospel from India"
Have you responded?

God created us for one reason:
- to know Him and love Him and havefellowship with Him.

And originally that's what happened.
Adam and Eveloved God and had unbroken fellowship with Him.
They not only lived ina perfect world, but they had perfect fellowship with their Creator.

But God created them with a free will- that is, with the ability toeither love Him or even reject Him.

Otherwise they would have beenlike robots, unable to choose to love God.

We may enjoy watching arobot in action. But we can't really love it, nor can it love us.

And that's why God didn't make us like robots. Instead, He gave ouroriginal parents the ability to love Him or even reject Him.

Truelove requires the ability to respond.

But you know what happened.

Satan told Adam and Eve that God wasdeceiving them (which was a lie), and if they obeyed him instead ofGod, they'd become like God.
Tragically, they believed his lie -- andtheir fellowship with God was broken.

You and I now share in theconsequences of their sin.

But God still loves us.And He still yearns for us to know Him andlove Him and have fellowship with Him.
And He has made this possibleby sending Jesus Christ into the world to give His life for us.

Haveyou responded to His love by accepting Christ into your life?

TheBible says:"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved usand sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 John 4:10.

Science and religion
Science and religion are not hostile or opposed to each other--not if they are properly understood.

In fact, over the years I've beenprivileged to know a number of highly respected scientists andresearchers who were also deeply committed to Jesus Christ.

They knewthat while science can help us understand the physical world-- it willnever be able to answer life's deepest questions:

Who are we?
Why arewe here?
Where are we going?
How should we live?

Only God can answerthese.

Remember: In Christ alone "are hidden all the treasures of wisdomand knowledge." Colossians 2:3.

Every day, no matter how busy you are, take time to be alone withGod, praying and reading the Bible.

In addition, ask God to lead youto other Christians and make your fellowship with thema priority.

You need them. And they need you.
The Bible says, "Teachand admonish one another with all wisdom." Colossians 3:16.

"Gospel from India"

The door

"So Jesus said to them again, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.'" John 10:7.

A teacher tells of travelling one day in the holy land and coming across a shepherd and his sheep.

He fell into conversation with him and the man showed him the fold into which the sheep were led at night.

It consisted of four walls, with a way in.

The teacher asked him, "This is where they go at night?"

"Yes," said the shepherd, "and when they are in there, they are perfectly safe."

"But there is no door," said the teacher.

"I am the door," said the shepherd.

He was not a Christian man and wasn't speaking in the language of the New Testament.
He was speaking from an Arab shepherd's viewpoint.

The teacher looked and him and asked, "What do you mean, 'you are the door'?"

"When the light has gone," said the shepherd, "and all the sheep are inside, I lie in that open space, and no sheep ever goes out but across my body, and no wolf comes in unless he crosses my body; I am the door."

And that's what Jesus is for all of His children, the sheep of His pasture.

"Dear God, thank You that we have the promise that Jesus is always with us no matter in what circumstances we find ourselves, and that He is the door to watch and guard over each one of His children—including me. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully in Jesus's Name, Amen."

Gospel from Asia
 Lasting peace!

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7.

There is no amount of money, fame, or power that can satisfy our quest for happiness.

No matter how hard we try-
- we continue to search for happiness in the wrong places.

Deep down we know this is true.
So, how do we find the happiness we all long for?

Think about all the happy people you know.

What do they have in common?
All truly happy people have a sense of peace.

Happy people are at peace with themselves, with others.
They are not living angry, hostile or bitter lives.

The good news for us is that we too can experience peace.
The Bible says true happiness can only be reached when we have peace with God.

So how do we find peace with God?
Jesus came that we may have life but He doesn't stop there.
He came that we could have life abundantly.

This is the true happiness we all long for!

When Jesus laid down His life at the cross-
He took on all our sin making us right with God.

He gave us a new life-
- an abundant life, a life transformed by the power of His love and grace.

When we really understand what Christ has done for us on the cross-
- inviting us to a life of peace with God
- happiness will result!

If this is a happiness that you have not experienced, start today.
Stop looking for happiness and turning up empty.

Accept Christ's gift of true and lasting peace for all eternity.

gospel for Asia
About face

If you have ever watched soldiers doing close-order drill on a parade field-
- you know how quickly they can reverse themselves and head in the opposite direction.

If they attempt this while standing still-
- the command is “about face.”

If they want to reverse while marching-
- the command is “to the rear, march.”

In either case-
- there is an abrupt change leading in an entirely different direction.

This is a good picture of what genuine repentance looks like.
It means to change one’s mind and start moving the opposite way.

One of the Bible’s greatest preachers of repentance was John the Baptist-
- who called his hearers to a complete “about face.”

He had seen too many shallow gestures where people pretended to repent but were not willing to change their behaviour.

John insisted that those who exhibited only superficial contrition should instead “bear fruits in keeping with repentance.” Luke 3:8.

When his listeners asked what he meant by that-
- they were told to share their food and clothing,
- to be fair in their business practices,
- and to be content with their wages.

In other words-
- they were to change their ways and
- leave their old patterns of behaviour behind.

Repentance includes something else:
-a willingness to make restitution to anyone whom we have wronged.

When Zaccheus the tax collector received Jesus into his house-
- he showed the true nature of his repentance when he said,
- “If I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as much.” Luke 19:8.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any amends you may need to make.

Gospel from Asia
Take your stand today!

"As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it[a] with thanksgiving."Colossians 2:6-7.

If you are to stand firm against Satan’s schemes-
- it is necessary to clear up any confusion you might have regarding your coming to faith in the Saviour.

Therefore, let’s consider three crucial steps that characterize the conversion process:

You must know.
You can never fully appreciate the significance of your conversion until you grasp what your condition was, apart from the Saviour.

Ephesians 2:1 makes it perfectly clear that, left to ourselves, we were all spiritually dead.
If the Father had not provided our salvation through His Son, there would be no eternal life for any of us.

You must believe.
The good news is that the Lord did not leave us to our own devices.

He provided a means of salvation that is open to all people.
Ephesians 2:4-9 explains that our loving heavenly Father, of His own initiative, provided the means by which we can be free of our sin debt and dwell with Him forever.

You must receive.
In order to own any gift, you must first open your hands and receive it.
The Father is reaching out to mankind, offering His free gift of salvation.

Once you have received what He offers, it’s yours to keep—forever. Romans. 10:9-13.

Are you a believer who is empowered by God’s Spirit and specifically gifted to do a certain work?
- who goes about the task which the Lord has assigned?
- and who is completely confident about salvation?

Then you are a force to be reckoned with!
If you have known, believed, and received God’s gift of salvation,

GOSPEL FROM ASIA

GOSPEL FROM ASIA
Fill the void

Have you ever found yourself standing in front of the refrigerator-
- trying to find something to satisfy a vague sense of emptiness or discontent?

You aren’t looking for anything specific, but you know you want to fill a longing.

Whatever you choose will probably not do the trick-
- because the empty spot is not in your stomach but in your soul.

Whether the substance is food, career, possessions, or relationships, our souls are continually trying to find satisfaction.

But nothing in this world will fill the void.

Since we were created for relationship with God-
He placed deep within us a yearning for Him.

Though we may not recognize it as such-
- everyone knows the feeling of dissatisfaction that at times seeps into our souls.

Any time we seek fulfillment with worldly substitutes, disappointment and disillusionment are sure to follow.

There are two possible menus from which we can choose to fill our emptiness.

Satan’s menu is long and full of enticing things that seem to promise gratification and pleasure.
These could include riches, relationships, prominence, acceptance, or recognition.

Whatever he offers looks like the good life that will bring contentment, but it’s a deception.

God’s menu, on the other hand, is quite small.
In fact, it lists just one “item”—
Jesus.

He is the only one who can fill the void.

Have you found the satisfaction you seek, or is there always a vague sense of discontent in your soul?

Make Jesus your highest priority-
- and spend focused,
- unhurried time with Him,
He’ll satisfy you as nothing else can.
