Israeli jets ‘strike near Damascus’ – So Says Syrian army
 Rlgrimes 12/07/2014Opinion, World News
Most people are not aware of the fact that Syria and Israel are in a state of war, they have been since 1967 when five Arab nations attack Israel in an attempt to destroy the tiny country.  The attempt was unsuccessful, but the same group of countries tried it again in 1973. The results were the same, except that Israel ended up signing peace treaties with some of the participants, Syria was not one of them.
Today, the Syrian military has accused Israel of carrying out two air strikes on Syria, near the capital Damascus. According to Syrian officials, Israeli planes bombed an area near Damascus international airport and the town of Dimas. No casualties were reported and Israel has not confirmed the attacks.
This would not be the first time Israel has conducted strikes on Syria. In the past several years, Israel is known to have attacked several targets that effected it’s national security. Such targets as, terrorist troop concentrations, nuclear reactor facilities and cashes of rockets and ammunition destined for Hamas, Hezbollah  and other terrorist groups have always been considered fair game.
In a statement Syrian Military officials said, “This afternoon, the Israeli enemy targeted two safe areas in Damascus province, namely the Dimas area and the Damascus International Airport.” It described the air strikes as “direct aggression” carried out to help the Syrian government’s opponents. Some installations had been damaged, it added, without elaborating on what had been hit.
Ten explosions were heard near Dimas, which is located close to the Syria-Lebanon border. According to The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the Syrian conflict. The group also said that there had been eight air raids on areas in the town of Khan al-Sheeh, on the eastern outskirts of the capital, and that a warehouse near Damascus airport had been hit.
In a measured response to the Syrian accusation, Israel’s military said it did not comment on “foreign reports”. Israel generally does not comment when it carries out attacks outside its borders. However, Israeli jets were seen constantly flying over parts of Lebanon on Sunday, about 20 miles from where the alleged attacks are said to have taken place.
