Hackers Substitute Porn on ISIS Sites
Home > Human Rights > Human Rights Activists > Human Rights Organizations > Hackers Substitute Porn on ISIS Sites
BY CLARION PROJECT Thursday, November 23, 2017
Participants at the annual Chaos Computer Club computer hackers' congress in Hamburg, Germany
A group of Iraqi hackers placed porn on encrypted message sites used by Islamic State’s ‘news agency’ Amaq.
The hacks are meant to disrupt the flow of communication between ISIS jihadis by creating havoc in the organization and mistrust of supporters for each other.
“Our intention was to flood the market with fake Amaq content in order to dilute the credibility of Amaq – a so-called news agency,” one of the anonymous hacker told Newsweek.
The hackers call themselves Daeshgram, a play on the name of the encrypted messaging application Telegram that is favored by ISIS supporters. “Daesh” is an derogatory acronym in Arabic used to refer to ISIS.
“Daesh responded by telling supporters not to trust any of the Amaq links. They even had fights among themselves about the topic and deleted each other from various groups,” the anonymous hacker said.
Hacks on other communications networks and apps have forced ISIS to rely only on Telegram in recent weeks.
Recently, another group of Muslim activists hacked into ISIS servers after the terror group announced it had upped its online security following a series of cyber attacks on Amaq.
“In response to recent events, we have imposed more stringent security measures on our systems,” ISIS announced. “We can now handle email attacks or any type of hack.”
“Challenge accepted” wrote the hacking group on Twitter. Barely three hours later, the hackers tweeted, “Challenge complete – too easy! 2000 email subscribers hacked from Amaq…What is next??”
The hackers then released the email addresses of Amaq subscribers online.
In his latest book, Lt.-Gen. Michael Flynn, former head of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, wrote the computers of ISIS jihadis seized by the U.S. were filled with pornography.

Should America Be Worried About a Saudi-Iranian War?

Is a war between Saudi Arabia and Iran likely? And if it happens, what would the impact be on the United States?
Is War Likely?
Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran have been rising for some time. A meeting of the Arab League, called by Saudi Arabia, convened in Cairo on Sunday to discuss the threat posed to the region by the Islamic Republic of Iran. Particular focus was given to Lebanon, where the Iranian-linked terrorist group Hezbollah is part of the government. The Arab League meeting denounced Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. They also said they would take Iranian aggression to the UN Security Council.
Saudi Arabia called to remove Lebanon from the Arab League, but the move was blocked by Egypt.
Lebanon is not the only place the Saudis are facing off with Iran. A ballistic missile intercepted over the Saudi capital of Riyadh on November 4 was confirmed to be Iranian in origin by American officials last week. The missile was fired by the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Gov’t Confirms US Jihadi Cult Under Investigation

States where Muslims of the Americas enclaves are located (Photo: Fox News)
A U.S. government agency confirmed in a letter to the Clarion Project that an investigation into a terror-linked Islamist cult named Muslims of America (MOA) is ongoing. The group is known for its “Islamic villages” in North America, with its “Islamberg” headquarters receiving the most attention.

The October 19 letter from the Justice Department’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) states that 10 documents from a previous investigation into MOA must be withheld because “the investigation related to the documents that were referred is still open.”
The Justice Department says that releasing the information could interfere with law enforcement proceedings as they concern an “ongoing investigation.”
Muslims of America (MOA) used to be known as Jamaat ul-Fuqra when it carried out a series of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil from the 1970s to the early 1990s. The group is led by a radical cleric in Pakistan and claims to have 22 “villages” in the U.S., some of which are known to have been used for basic military-type training.

Europe is under threat from both radical Shiites and Sunnis – Iran and ISIS respectively.
In a rare move, the Iranian Shiite regime issued threats against Europe in response to France calling for “uncompromising” dialogue with the Islamic Republic regarding its ballistic missile program.
France maintains it is entirely committed to the nuclear deal negotiated between Iran and world powers in 2015. However, in an interview earlier this month, French President Emmanuel Macron said, “It is important to remain firm with Iran over its regional activities and ballistics program.”
Iran rejects any attempt to curb the development of its ballistic missiles, which are the primary way nuclear weapons are delivered.
“If we have kept the range of our missiles to 2,000 kilometers, it’s not due to lack of technology…We are following a strategic doctrine,” said Brig.-Gen. Hossein Salami, head of the Revolutionary Guards, yesterday Nov.25, 2017.

Aftermath of the attack on the al Rawdah Sufi mosque in Bir al-Abed in the northern Sinai. (Photo: Stringer/AFP/Getty Images)
Clarion Project’s Arab Affairs Analyst Ran Meir culled reactions from the Egyptian media to the terror attack in a mosque in the northern Sinai that claimed the lives of over 300 people, including 27 children. The attack occurred in Bir al-Abed at the al Rawdah Sufi mosque during Friday prayers.
Here are some thoughts from major media outlets in Egypt:
Al-Ahram: The terrorists were based in an area far from security forces. The attack sends the message that the terrorists can reach civilians that have no protection. The fact that civilians were targeted while they were praying gives the terrorists immense media attention, showing that their objective is to spread fear by showing how powerful they are.

Islamist Extremists Gather Near DC to Promote Jihad

Pakistani cleric Habib-ur-Rehman Ludhianvi (Photo: video screenshot)
At a gathering of Islamist extremists near Washington, D.C. last weekend, speakers from Maryland, Virginia, Texas and Pakistan railed against America calling it the “land of infidels.”
The keynote speaker, Habib-ur-Rehman Ludhianvi, a visiting imam from Pakistan who is the principal of an Islamic seminary in Faisalabad, told a group of about 100 that “ignorant infidels” need to be forced to accept Islam.
“They are ignorant and there is no need for dialogue with them. God has given them two options, one is the holy book and one is the stick, and if one does not accept the holy book, they have to be forced,” he said.
Reports from the conference came from several Muslims from the Ahmadiyya community that attended the conference under cover.

What Charles Manson Teaches Us About Terror
Home > Political Islam > In the US > National Security > What Charles Manson Teaches Us About Terror
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Tuesday, November 21, 2017
Charles Manson (Photo: Video screenshot)
Charles Manson is dead at 83. The seven murders he inspired and orchestrated in 1969 and the race war he tried to incite gripped the American psyche both at the time and in the intervening years.
You can read about the details of his shocking crimes quite easily elsewhere. What we’re focusing on here is what we can learn from his story when it comes to understanding radical Islam.
1.Myth Matters More Than Reality
In terms of body count, Manson does not rank. It was the aesthetic of his crimes that captured the national imagination and caused people to fixate on him. His story was capitivating because his followers murdered beautiful celebrities, listened to hip music and were on the cutting edge of pop culture at the time.
Manson’s ability to craft a cool image that drew in followers is what gave him the power to inspire them to commit horrible crimes.
So too with Islamism, the ideology draws its power from a compelling narrative which posits that Muslims are currently in a degraded state as a result of Western oppression, but can restore their glorious past through sacrifice and great deeds.
You may think these narratives are being sold in spite of their bloodthirsty nature. In fact the opposite is more likely true…
2.Violent Revolution is an Extremely Compelling Narrative

‘ISIS Opens Sex-Slave Market in Turkey’s Capital’
Home > Human Rights > Human Rights Violators > Child Abuse > ‘ISIS Opens Sex-Slave Market in Turkey’s Capital’
BY RAN MEIR Tuesday, November 21, 2017
Haifa, a 36-year-old woman from Iraq’s Yazidi community who was taken as a sex slave by Islamic State group fighters, stands on a street during an interview with AFP journalists in the northern Iraqi city of Dohuk on November 17, 2016. Haifa and her family were among thousands of members of the Yazidi minority shown no mercy by IS when it swept through areas north and west of the Iraqi capital in 2014. As the extremists advanced, they was singled out for especially cruel persecution in a campaign of violence and kidnapping which the United Nations has branded a genocide. Men were gunned down and thousands of women — including Haifa and her younger sister — were taken as sex slaves. (Photo: SAFIN HAMED/AFP/Getty Images)
You may think ISIS’ demise in Iraq and Syria would mean an end to its sex-slave trading, but a new report says Islamic State has merely transferred its slave business into Turkey – including a market in Turkey’s capital Ankara. This means ISIS is involved in the slavery industry in a European country.
During its years of power in parts of Iraq and Syria, ISIS held slave markets both in private and public. With its loss of power, Islamic State began smuggling Yazidi women across the border into Turkey. It imprisoned them with ISIS families it had shifted from Iraq and Syria into Turkey previous to the major losses in territory.
ISIS is also said to be negotiating with the close relatives of these women to release them after years of captivity, torture and sexual slavery. The ransoms are believed to amount to thousands of dollars, which for many Yazidi families are sums they simply cannot afford.
It is understood that when the families don’t meet the ransom demands, ISIS sells the women to the highest bidders.

New research by the Middle East Forum has uncovered evidence of extreme antisemitism among faculty members and guest speakers appointed by the Islamic Society of Boston to teach and promote its latest project: the Boston Islamic Seminary (BIS).
BIS was established in 2016 to “equip future religious leaders with the intellectual, spiritual and practical training to serve the American Muslim community.” Currently, it offers “continuing education” classes, but it hopes to offer an accredited graduate degree program by 2019, which will “train chaplains, imams, and other leaders to serve in a variety of contexts.”
And what exactly will this next generation of chaplains and imams learn at BIS?
Faculty listed on the BIS website include Yahia Abdul Rahman, who is described as an expert on “sharia-compliant” banking. On his social media accounts, Abdul Rahman has posted stories from “The Ugly Truth,” a website that describes itself as “intelligent ‘anti-Semitism’ for thinking Gentiles.”
Elsewhere, Rahman has shared claims that any Muslim who fails to oppose Israel is no longer a Muslim and is afflicted with a “Jewish heart.” Other posts of his claim the Jews were complicit in the 2008 financial crisis.

US Kills 100 Terrorists in One Airstrike

The United States air force killed more than 100 terrorists in a manned air strike on Sunday in Somalia. The terrorists belonged to the al-Qaeda-linked Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab. The strike was followed up with an attack by Somali ground troops, according to the local news agency SONNA.
Al-Shabaab is fighting to overthrow the government of Somalia and impose a theocratic state ruled according to their interpretation of sharia law. Al Shabaab was responsible for a truck bombing that killed at least 358 people in Mogadishu in October, among many other horrific terror attacks.
U.S. Africa Command stated the strike was carried out against an al-Shabaab camp some 125 miles north of the capital Mogadishu. There have been 29 such strikes so far this year. Of these, seven took place between November 9 and 14.
President Trump authorized “precision airstrikes” against al-Shabaab targets in March. He designated parts of Somalia as zones of “active hostilities,” which changed the rules of engagement. Prior to that, Africa Command was only allowed to act in defense of U.S. forces.

A Christmas market in Strasbourg, France
A Christmas market in Strasbourg, France (Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)
The State Department issued a travel alert to all U.S. citizens warning of the “heightened risk of terrorist attacks” in Europe during the holiday season.
The blanket warning covered all of Europe and noted “widely-reported incidents in France, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Finland demonstrate that the Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham (ISIS or Da’esh), al-Qa’ida, and their affiliates have the ability to plan and execute terrorist attacks in Europe.”
The warning referred to mass casualty attacks that were carried out last year at a Christmas market in Berlin in December and at a nightclub in Istanbul on New Year’s Eve.
The warning covered all locations from hotels, restaurants and clubs to airports, places of worship and government and educational institutions, saying:
“Terrorists persist in employing a variety of tactics, including firearms, explosives, using vehicles as ramming devices, and sarp-edged weapons that are difficult to detect prior to an attack.”

The alert urges travelers to be vigilant and join the government’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which allows the participants to receive security messages and makes it easier for local consulates and family and friends to locate the traveler.

Why My Daughter Is Getting Hijab Barbie for Christmas

Mattel’s new hijab Barbie is modeled after Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, who bravely broke stereotypes by wearing a hijab while winning a bronze in the Olympic games in Rio.
New Barbie certainly has a lot of people talking about her.
Maureen Callahan of the New York Post described Hijabi-fencer Barbie as “really, really disturbing.” Critics railed that it represents the injection of Islamist modesty culture into the American political sphere. The presence of the Islamic headscarf on an icon such as Barbie, the argument goes, normalizes and encourages Islamist misogyny under the guise of cultural acceptance.
It does nothing of the sort. Given the sorts of clothes she normally wears, it is inconceivable that the Barbie has suddenly taken on an Islamic ethos of modesty.

Even the Arab World Says Hezbollah Are Terrorists

Hezbollah displays an Iranian-made Fajr 5 missile at a military parade in southern Lebanon, close to the Israeli border.
(Photo: MAHMOUD ZAYYAT/AFP/Getty Images)
In an emergency meeting of the Arab League called by Saudi Arabia, all the the foreign ministers attending declared Hezbollah a terrorist organization. A final resolution of the meeting also condemned Iran’s interference in the Middle East, saying that the Islamic Republic sought to destabilize the region.
All countries in the league sent representatives with the exception of Lebanon and Iraq. A previous vote by the Arab League held at a meeting in March of 2016 also declared Hezbollah a terror group. However, at that meeting, the foreign ministers of Lebanon and Iraq were in attendance. They did not support the declaration but rather expressed “reservations” about it.
Iran finances and backs Hezbollah, which was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. in 1997.
The meeting, which was held in Cairo, was called after Iran fired a ballistic missile from Yemen into Saudi Arabia’s capital city Riyadh on November 4. Although the ministers stopped short of declaring war on Iran, they did say that the missile firing was an act of war against Saudi Arabia.
The ministers also discussed the possibility of taking their case to the United Nations Security Council
Speaking at the meeting, Bahrain’s foreign minister, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa, said that Lebanon is under the “total control” of Hezbollah.

BY GUEST CONTRIBUTOR Monday, November 20, 2017
A rally for Muslims and immigrants in Manhattan (Photo: Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
By Felix Hafner
Assaults against Muslims in the United States have exceeded attacks in 2001, reaching their highest modern level, according to Pew Research Center. In 2017, there were 127 attacks against Muslims, surpassing the previous peak of 93 in 2001. The data analyzed a spread of FBI hate crimes statistics from 2000 to 2017.
I don’t want to minimize the problem as a trend of increasing attacks against Muslims. Such increases in assaults against any group is serious and in need of a response. Anti-Muslim bigotry is never acceptable and must continue to be challenged until it is eradicated.
It is also important to put this increase in its broader context.
One-hundred-twenty-seven assaults a year in a country with a population of close to 400 million is still a strikingly low number, especially given the fact that it’s not happening out of nowhere but in the context repeated murderous attacks coming out of the group whose members are assaulted.
This is emphatically not to excuse the assaults. It is simply to add that given what we know of human nature, tribal instincts and how humans typically react when threatened, the response of Western civil society as a whole has been remarkably civilized in the past decade or so.

Who Will Be the Next Head of Global Jihad?
Hamza bin Laden is about to hit the world arena
BY RAN MEIR Sunday, November 19, 2017
Hamza bin Laden with his father Osama front left.
The son of Osama, Hamza bin Laden is global jihad’s new star. Not only is he perceived as his father’s natural heir, but he is also a future key player in and potentially the next leader of jihadism.
Hamza, Osama’s favorite son, first appeared in al-Qaeda propaganda alongside his father when he was a child. He studied religion and military tactics with senior AQ figures. He was designated heir apparent at a young age.
Osama was killed on May 2, 2011 together with Hamza’s brother Khaled. Hamza was not at the compound when it was stormed by U.S. Navy Seals that day.
Since then, Hamza has been off the grid. He resurfaced in August 2015 when AQ’s current leader Ayman al-Zawahiri introduced him as Osama’s son and the torchbearer of his father’s legacy.
Hamza has since published audio (not video) statements once every few months – in May, July and August of 2016 and twice in May and in November 2017.
He supports the Islamists fighting against Assad and the Syrian regime and calls for regime change in Saudi Arabia and jihad against the West (and arguably more vociferously than other jihadist leaders).
First and foremost, he urges attacks on the United States in retaliation for his father’s murder.
Until a few weeks ago, the only images of Hamza seen in the West were from his childhood. The CIA just made public photos of him as an adult. He is believed to be around 28 years old.

America One Step Closer to Defunding Palestinian Terrorists

Taylor Force was an American army veteran who was killed by a Palestinian terrorist while on a university trip in Israel.
Taylor Force was an American army veteran who was killed by a Palestinian terrorist while on a university trip in Israel.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee has just approved a bill called the Taylor Force Act which would strip U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority until it changes its policies on supporting terrorism.
What Is the Taylor Force Act?
Taylor Force was a U.S. veteran killed by a Palestinian terrorist while on a university trip in Israel. An officer who had served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, Force was stabbed in Tel Aviv in March 2016. His killer was shot and killed at the scene.
The Palestinian Authority is paying a salary to the family of the terrorist who killed Force, as it does to the families of all terrorists killed in action by Israeli forces. Terrorists who are not killed or who are imprisoned receive salaries directly. The longer they are in prison the more money is awarded.
Palestinian leaders have long defended these payouts.
“It is the right of all of the prisoners and martyrs who have struggled and sacrificed for Palestine to receive their full salaries from the PA,” Hassan Abd Rabbo, spokesman for the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Commission of Prisoners and Released Prisoners’ Affairs has said.
Such payouts make up a significant portion of the Palestinian Authority budget. In 2017, the Palestinian Authority took in an estimated $693 million from international donors, but allocated nearly $345 to pay terrorists and their families.

Those who view extremist content online in the UK could face up to 15 years in prison if new measures are implemented. Punishments would apply equally to those who view jihadist as well as far-right forms of extremism. Home Secretary Amber Rudd unveiled the proposed measures at the Conservative Party Conference.

The Spectator has a transcript of the full speech.
The sentences will also apply to those who publish information about members of the armed forces, police and intelligence services to help terrorists.
The proposed change is an alteration to the Terrorism Act (2000), to extend punishments for “possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist” to include those who view such material online without downloading it.
“I want to make sure those who view despicable terrorist content online, including jihadi websites, far-right propaganda and bomb-making instructions, face the full force of the law,” Rudd said when unveiling the new policy. “There is currently a gap in the law around material [that] is viewed or streamed from the internet without being permanently downloaded. This is an increasingly common means by which material is accessed online for criminal purposes and is a particularly prevalent means of viewing extremist material such as videos and web pages.”

The past half-year has been turning sour for a U.S.-based jihadist cult with a terrorist history that claims to be establishing “peaceful” Islamic villages across America. The group is being affected by multiple arrests of its members while it prepares for the impending death of its leader in Pakistan.
Since May, five reported members and associates of Muslims of America (MOA) have been arrested for crimes ranging from murder to illegal weapons possession to running illicit drugs to forgery. MOA used to be known as Jamaat ul-Fuqra.
While it’s not clear that any of these illegal acts were directed by the group’s leadership or directly connected to MOA’s communes, previous arrests and declassified documents show that the U.S. government believes MOA and its leadership in Pakistan use revenue from drug sales and engage in extensive trafficking of firearms.
Muslims of America, which was founded in 1980, has claimed to have 22 camps and compounds secluded in isolated areas of the United States, located in such states as Texas, Virginia, New York, South Carolina, Georgia and more.

The mosque attended by the recent New York terrorist had previously been under surveillance from an NYPD program that was later cancelled. News of this has led some to wonder whether or not cancelling the program was a mistake. When evaluating counter-terrorism methods, it’s important to be objective. The metric that really matters is “Did the program work?” So, the question to be asked is: Could a cancelled Muslim community surveillance program have stopped the recent terror attack in New York?
If the success record of that program in stopping terrorists is anything to go by, that seems unlikely.

Hi there, Clarion readers and viewers.
A couple of days ago we posted this item: Why Would Muslims Be in a Christmas Ad?
We asked for your comments thinking we’d get a few reactions, but we never anticipated the strength of feeling in your responses. We were inundated with remarks from you. So we decided to anonymously post some of the comments to give you an idea of what people thought about the Christmas ad for the British Tesco supermarket chain that featured hijab-wearing Muslim women.
Here’s what some of you told us (we decided not to publish comments with particularly colorful language – Ed.):
Muslims make up around 6% of the UK. Tesco and other large companies see this growing group as a way of making more money, whether it’s through halal food options, Ramadan ranges etc. Muslims will make up 8% of the UK by 2030 and over 10% by 2050, so they’re an untapped source of future cash for many businesses.
However, I think ultimately Tesco wanted kudos for using hijab clad women in this advert, as it displays their supposed love of diversity, which all big businesses like to pretend they have

It appears that an Iranian dissident was killed by Iranian assassins in a European capital last week.
A report from an Iranian media outlet that regularly cites credible information from regime insiders has quoted a regime official as stating that Ahwazi Arab Ahmad Mola, who was murdered last week outside his home in The Netherlands, was assassinated by an operative from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Quds Force.
The report in Amad News quoted an unnamed officer of the Guards Corps’ intelligence division who said that the operative carried out the brutal assassination, shooting Mola three times, once in the head and twice in the chest at point-blank range .
This is not the first such assassination ordered by the regime of an Ahwazi or other dissident in exile. Such murders have been documented in the Middle East and Europe since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
The officer said the assassination was carried out in revenge for Saudi Arabia’s policies towards Iran, claiming that Mola traveled to Geneva a week before the murder for a meeting with Bandar Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz, the former head of Saudi’s intelligence agency.

Thanks one an all for the thousands of votes and comments on our story about a class of 12-year olds asked to write a homework assignment explaining to their family why they decided to convert to Islam.
As you can imagine, your responses were rather strong – those with ‘colorful’ language we chose not to publish! But before your comments here’s the poll result at the time we wrote this item:
What would you do if your child was asked to write about why they converted to Islam?
1.1% Allow them to complete the assignment
2.6% Allow them to complete the assignment but explain to your child why it is problematic
10.7% Complain to the head teacher about the assignment
14.2% Prevent your child from completing the assignment and write a quick note to their teacher explaining why
29.6% Remove your child from the school
41.8% Speak with other parents and create a unified protest against the teacher/curriculum
Now to your comments – we had close to a thousand, so we’re just presenting a small percentage here:

“Our war on terror begins with al-Qaida, but it does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped, and defeated.” — President George W. Bush, September 20, 2001.
The war on terror has been raging since al-Qaeda brought down the World Trade Center in New York City in 2001, killing almost 3,000 people. Since that fateful day, America has fought terrorism across the globe. Militarily, the war has been largely successful, defeating jihadi groups and armies alike. But for each victory, a new threat has emerged. Fully 16 years after beginning, the war on terror looks no closer to finishing.
This veteran’s day weekend, we look at the cost of that war in the lives of American servicemen and women.
Afghanistan
On October 7, 2001, Operation Enduring Freedom began. United States jets pounded Taliban positions in Afghanistan, supported by the United Kingdom’s Royal Air Force. Other allies including Germany, Turkey, France, the Netherlands and Italy deployed troops and the Taliban were smashed in short order.

Saudi Arabia's King Salman welcomes U.S. President Donald Trump to the kingdom

Back in May, President Trump stood before the assembled leaders of the Sunni Muslim world and called on them to “drive out the terrorists and extremists … from this earth.” We do not know what was said privately between Trump and Saudi royalty, but since then changes have come thick and fast, most of all in Saudi Arabia, one of the last absolute monarchies in the world.
How Trump’s administration adapts to these changes will either restore American prestige that was lost in the region during the Obama years or risk seeing the Middle East fall almost completely under Russian and Iranian influence.
Two main shifts are taking place. The first concerns efforts by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (known colloquially as MBS) to concentrate power. The fact that this 32 year-old royal will be the first grandson of King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud to succeed to the throne will be a significant change in the political culture, in contrast to the rule of 81 year-old King Salman, his father.
To build his power base, MBS has been promoting a slew of princes from the younger generation of Saudi royalty, many of whom will now be beholden to him. MBS is also crushing potential rivals. Older royals are being sidelined, while others are suffering worse fates. So far, police have arrested at least 11 senior royals formerly in key positions on corruption allegations, including global investor Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, who owns three perecent of Twitter, among other holdings. An estimated 500 people in total have been arrested so far in the crackdown..

Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards Go to…
Home > Political Islam > In the US > Public Issues > Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards Go to…
BY CLARION PROJECT Sunday, November 12, 2017
“For the past 27 years, the ‘Glamour’ Women of the Year Awards has honored game changers, rule breakers, and trailblazers. This year’s class of extraordinary women is no exception. They came. They saw. They rocked our world. Meet the queens of 2017. Long may they reign.”
So goes the intro to Glamour magazine’s announcement of the 10 winners of the magazine’s award for the year’s most outstanding women, which included the organizers of the Women’s March on Washington, the pet project of Islamist activist Linda Sarsour.
We at Clarion couldn’t help but envision what the award’s ceremony might look like when Linda is called to pick up her award for the Women’s March organizers:
And last but not least, Glamour recognizes the tenth winner of 2017’s awards, which goes to…The Women’s March Organizers! Accepting the award for the group of 24 women is Linda Sarsour, one of the four co-chairs of the march.
[applause builds…dramatic music]
While Ms. Sarsour makes her way to the podium, we at Glamour, wanted to let our audience know just some of Linda’s other accomplishments:
Linda called on the Muslim community to wage ‘jihad”’ against U.S. President Donald Trump (hey, that sounds really fun, right ladies?) She called this ‘patriotism!’
Letting everyone know that living under sharia law “sounds nice” (I know I can’t wait to be subjugated, how about all of you in the audience?)[wild applause]
Waging war on FGM victim and human rights activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, saying she wishes she could take Ayaan’s vagina away (maybe Linda would share one of those pretty pink vagina hats from the Women’s March with Ayaan after she takes Ayaan’s vagina away).
Posing for a photo op with a Hamas operative (terrorists who target women and children are the best for selfies, aren’t they?)
And here she is!
Linda can now add Glamour’s Women of the Year Award to her list of impressive accomplishments.

What would you do if your 12-year-old daughter had a homework assignment asking her to explain to you why she decided to convert to Islam?
This actually happened in a school in Sunderland in northern England, the Daily Mail reported.
Students at Kepier School were given this assignment:
Write a letter to family about converting to islam [sic]
Stepfather Mark McLachlan brought the issue to public attention after he refused to allow his stepdaughter to complete her homework.
McLachlan said he appreciates students learn about world religions at school but added:
“What I don’t want is a school asking my stepdaughter to look into reasons for converting to another religion.”
Clarion closely follows the curriculum issue, particularly in the U.S. where we reported on problematic cases in Maryland, Texas and elsewhere.

Tennessee Teacher Suspended for Removing Student’s Hijab
Home > Political Islam > In the US > Legal Issues > Tennessee Teacher Suspended for Removing Student’s Hijab
BY MEIRA SVIRSKY Sunday, November 12, 2017
(Illustrative photo)
A teacher in a charter school in Tennessee was suspended without pay after a video surfaced on social media of a girl having her hijab removed, exposing her hair to the class.
The girl can be seen covering her face and trying to put the hijab back on while other students play with her long hair. Two videos of the incident, which took place in a classroom in the New Vision Academy Charter School in Nashville, were uploaded to Snapchat – one under the title “pretty hair” and the other under “lol all that hair cover up.”
The videos were reportedly posted on the teacher’s social media account.
The incident was made public when someone who saw the videos sent them to a local news station, which investigated the incident. The school’s principal initially told the station the teacher had denied making the video and that exposing the girl’s hair was not done out of disrespect.
However, by the next day, the principal suspended the teacher without pay and, in a statement, apologized for the “unfortunate incident,” saying, “The actions depicted in the Snapchat video do not reflect the values, culture or climate of New Vision Academy.”
There are almost no words to describe this gross human-rights offense as well as the violation of this young girl’s constitutional right to exercise her religious practices that occurred in this incident. That someone in the position of a teacher could be involved or complicit in such actions makes it even more reprehensible.
Clarion Project condemns, in the strongest terms possible, those responsible for this incident.

Four churches have been forced to close in Egypt due to attacks by local Muslims, the UK’s Express reported.
The closures, which occurred in the Minya region south of Cairo, began when the Coptic Christian Church of al-Azraa came under a stoning attack. Officials decided to close the property for safety of the worshipers.
The closure, however, emboldened the attackers. Sensing the lack of police effort to provide security to the Christians in the area, the mob went on to attack three more churches which subsequently were forced to close down as well.
Coptic leaders charge that authorities do nothing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We stayed silent for two weeks after the closure of a church hoping that the officials would do the job they were assigned to do by the state, however, this silence has led to something worse, as if prayer is a crime the Copts should be punished for. The Coptic Christians (must now) go to the neighboring villages to perform their prayers,” said Anba Makarios.

Trustee at ‘Reformed’ Mosque Outed as Hamas Official

Mohammed Sawalha
Mohammed Sawalha (Photo: social media)
A trustee at one of London’s best-known – and controversial—mosques has been exposed as a senior leader in the terrorist organization Hamas, the Daily Mail reported.
Mohammed Sawalha is responsible for overseeing the Finsbury Park Mosque’s management. It emerged that he was also one of five senior Hamas members who traveled to Moscow in September to meet with Russian government officials.
The Finbury Park Mosque was known for its extremism from 1997 to 2005 when its imam was Abu Hamza Al-Misri, an Egyptian radical who was extradited to the U.S. and is now serving a life sentence without parole after being convicted of 11 charges of terrorism by a federal jury.
Abu Hamza was also found guilty in the UK of 16 charges of inciting violence and racial hatred.
The Finbury Part Mosque’s website claims followers of Abu Hamza were ousted by the mosque community in 2005 and since then, “with the support of the local Muslim community, there has been a complete overhaul of the mosque’s leadership, comprising of a new board of trustees, management team, Imams, and a new ethos.”
The exposure of Sawalha runs contrary to these pronouncements. However, legally, the UK is powerless to act against Sawalha, since the UK only designates Hamas’ military wing as a terrorist organization and not its political wing. Sawalha is affiliated with Hamas’ political arm.
UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn visited the mosque a number of times and appears in pictures with Sawalha. At one point, Corbyn called Hamas (and Hezbollah) “friends.” He later walked back on that language.

ISIS has entered refugee camps in the Middle East to brainwash women and children into becoming suicide bombers in Europe. That’s according to the European Centre for Counterterrorism and Intelligence Studies (Arabic link).
This is ISIS’ latest tactic in the wake of its crippling defeats in Syria and Iraq. The Centre mentions camps in Turkey but says Islamic State is also active in camps in other countries. Lebanon and Jordan are both major destinations for refugees from the fighting. There are also IDP (internally displaced people) camps in Iraq.
There were media reports earlier this year of ISIS paying smugglers to bring child refugees out of the camps to be drafted into Islamic State’s fighting forces, the Centre notes. ISIS was reportedly prepared to pay $1,000-2,000 per child in Jordan and Lebanon.
The idea was for these children to initially fight with ISIS in exchange for a salary to be paid both to the youths and their families. At a later date, ISIS would dispatch them to Europe to carry out suicide attacks.
The report highlights the desperate plight of the young housed in refugee camps making them easy prey and points to ISIS promising them trips to Europe.

Islamist Mobs Force Church Closures

A leading Arab film director has spoken out against anti-Semitism pervading the Arab world, as reported by The Algemeiner. French-Tunisian film director Said Ben Said was pulled from the jury of the 28th Carthage Film Festival over his previous work with Israelis.
It is interesting that he was canned for his connection with Israeli film director Nadav Lapid, rather than Roman Polanski, who raped a 13-year-old girl.
But Said Ben Said did not blame the Carthage Film Festival, who he said “was probably right to spare both themselves and me a media lynching.”
Instead, in an op-ed in Le Monde, he slammed the Arab world for what he regards as institutionalized and widespread anti-Semitism.

A previous hack by ISIS (Photo: ISIS propaganda)
Eight hundred school websites across the U.S. were hacked by ISIS on Monday, November 7.
The hack lasted close to two hours, during which time visitors to the sites were redirected to a YouTube video with Arabic audio and pictures of Saddam Hussein. Text also appeared which read, “I love Islamic State (ISIS).”
The websites are all hosted by a company called School Desk (schooldesk.net) and are all connected to a server in Georgia.
School Desk has given a copy of the server to the FBI. Some schools have also hired outside security firms to help track down the hackers.
All the affected websites have been shut down to aid the FBI in its investigation.
“You always think it happens somewhere else, and now it’s hitting home,” said Nicole Tierney, who is connected to a school in New Jersey whose site was hacked.
“It’s upsetting to us,” said Rob Frierson, the owner of School Desk, speaking to CBS New York. “We’ve been running this business for 17 years, and we’ve never had any sort of incident even remotely like this.”

Armed men forced a girl to parade naked through her village in Pakistan to “restore the honor” of their family.
The girl was targeted after her brother had an affair with the wife of one of the men. She was taken in broad daylight by a group of men, who cut off her clothes with scissors and forced walk through the streets of in the village of Chaudhuan, according to local residents.
The police arrested eight of the men and are looking for the ninth. According to eye witnesses, the girl was forced to continue on this “walk of shame” for an hour before the men released her.
Family honor is paramount in Pakistan, with teenage girls often forced to “pay” for the crimes of their male relatives. Every year, at least 1,000 women are reported killed by their relatives for violating the perceived honor of the family.

An Ohio man who pleaded guilty to terrorism charges as well as trying to murder a federal judge was handed a sentence of 27-and-a-half years in prison.
Yahya Farooq Mohammad, 39, is a citizen of India and will be deported upon release. The sentence was part of a plea bargain that waived his right to a trial, where he would have likely been given a life sentence.
In addition to pleading guilty to conspiring to provide and conceal material support to terrorists, Mohammad also admitted to soliciting an undercover FBI employee who was posing as a hitman to kidnap and murder U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary.
Zouhary was assigned as the judge in his case. Mohammad arranged the hit from jail and was willing to pay $15,000 to have the operation carried out.
Even though his wife gave the undercover agent $1,000 as a down payment for the hit, she was not charged with any crime.
Originally from India, Mohammad came to the U.S. as an engineering student at Ohio State University between 2002 and 2004. He married a U.S. citizen in 2008.

The close connection of al-Qaeda to the Muslim Brotherhood was recently revealed in the CIA documents seized during the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.
Those documents show bin Laden’s ideology from the beginning was affiliated with the Brotherhood.
“I was committed to the Muslim Brotherhood, despite their limited curriculum,” bin Laden wrote in one of documents that was released.
“I was religious from a young age, I keep my prayers and my mother takes care of me from other aspects,” he said. “There was no one guiding me like the Brotherhood was, it was just natural instinct,” he said in hand-written notes.
The connection between ISIS and the Brotherhood is becoming increasingly apparent.

Depiction of the sin of Adam and Eve by Jan Brueghel the Elder and Pieter Paul Rubens
Depiction of the sin of Adam and Eve by Jan Brueghel the Elder and Pieter Paul Rubens
One of the foundations of modern ethics is crumbling. Having rights is about being respected as a human individual who shapes his life through choices. Whether with respect to original sin, honor based violence, the burqa, ‘incitement’ to violence, or white guilt – the transference of moral responsibility from individual moral agents to others, or from others to the individual, makes a mockery of justice.
Either we are responsible for our own behavior or we are not. Imagine how wonderful it would be if we could all take credit for other peoples’ good deeds. Conversely, it would be awful if we could be blamed for other peoples’ crimes.
Ironically, no one seems to have any trouble understanding what is wrong with the transference of blame from individuals to other people innocent of his crime when it comes to Islamist jihadist terrorists and “Muslims.”
Transference of guilt from the individual terrorist to other Muslims innocent of his crime is the most egregious, inexcusable error in this instance. Guilt-by-association is a mistake that is seized upon and bewailed following every jihadist terror attack. But when religions themselves promote the logic of guilt transference, as they do in many ways, there is a resounding silence.

The recent release of documents seized during the 2011 raid that killed al-Qaeda head Osama Bin Laden show the extent to which Iran was cooperating with al-Qaeda.
The release of the documents was quashed during the years of the Obama administration. In fact, documents that were released by the Obama administration emphasized the rivalry between Iran and al-Qaeda.
The reason was simple: Obama was intent on signing a nuclear deal with Iran – a deal which would open up the global financial coffers to the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism.
Far from image the Obama administration was painting of the Iranians as reformed “moderates,” such information would have been devastating.
Now, as the Trump administration reassesses the deal which has given access of billions of dollars to the Islamic Republic, it makes sense that the documents were released.
Yet, the fact that Iran was cooperating with al-Qaeda was known years ago, even before Obama became president. As Clarion Project’s National Security Analyst Ryan Mauro wrote in 2014,

“Earlier this month, the U.S. Treasury Department confirmed that Al-Qaeda has a leadership council in Iran that is transferring personnel and money to Jabhat al-Nusra [al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria] through Turkey.
“The Al-Qaeda network in Iran ‘operates there with the knowledge of Iranian authorities,’ the U.S. government said. The preservation of the Assad regime is a top goal of Iran, yet Iran is helping those at war with Assad. This only makes sense if Iran believes Al-Nusra’s presence is beneficial to Assad.

“The reason Iran and Assad believe this is because it’s true. If the Syrian rebels were led by anti-Islamist moderates, Western aid would flow and many more Syrians would join them …many Syrians (especially Allawites and Christians) cling to the regime because they know the horrors they’ll face if Islamists take over.
“But this isn’t only about Syria. This collusion with Al-Qaeda threatens the West. It means that Assad and Iran are helping terrorists carve out a safe harbor in Syria … [This helps] Al-Qaeda to sustain its network as a whole.

“A State Department official said that this network is also “assisting in the movement of Al-Qaeda external operatives to the West.” The Long War Journal listed three terrorist plots against the West that the Al-Qaeda network in Iran has been implicated in: A series of attacks in Europe in 2010; the planned derailment of a train going from the U.S. to Canada last year and a plan to attack the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.
“This is nothing new. In fact, the 9/11 Commission report concluded that many of the 9/11 hijackers transited Iran. The Iranian authorities were instructed not to stamp their passports, easing their access to Europe and the U.S. Just like today, Iran allowed Al-Qaeda an important passageway. This contributed to a judge’s ruling in 2011 that Iran and Hezbollah bear responsibility for the 9/11 attacks.

“The Obama Administration has long known about this network in Iran. In 2009, the Treasury Department accused Iran and Al-Qaeda of having a ‘secret deal.’ It has been led by Yasin al-Sura since 2005, except for when al-Suri was temporarily detained by Iran because of the attention he was getting. Iran simply allowed another Al-Qaeda member to replace him. Al-Suri was recently freed.”
The fact that no one challenged the deal based on these revelations cannot be blamed solely on the Obama administration, as the Treasury Department’s statements were public knowledge and Congress was fully aware of the on-going cooperation between Iran and al-Qaeda.
The Iran deal was a travesty based on these revelations alone. The question still remains: Why was Obama intent on lifting global sanctions on Iran and why wasn’t the deal stopped by Congress?

U.S. President Donald Trump has the power to end this bad deal. Let us hope that he will end the deal and convince America’s Europeans partners to do the same.
Europe, with dollar signs in their eyes from the financial deals they cut with Iran after the deal was signed, should not be taken in by Iran’s latest “assurances” that Iran’s ballistic missiles are only meant for American assets in the Middle East and not for them.
Ironically, speaking at an October 31, 2017 press conference at the World Without Terrorism convention in Iran, Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (Iran’s terror arm), smooth-talked Europe, saying,
“The range of our missiles is limited to 2,000 km, in accordance with the policy set out by [Iranian Supreme] Leader Khamenei. Even though we have the capability to increase this range, in the meantime this range is enough for us, because the Americans are sufficiently situated within a 2,000-km radius around Iran.”

Aftermath of the truck attack which killed eight in Manhattan on Tuesday October 31, 2017 (Photo: DON EMMERT/AFP/Getty Images)
Middle East Forum President Daniel Pipes was interviewed by RT shortly after Sayfullo Saipov’s October 31 vehicular terror attack in lower Manhattan that left 8 people dead, before details about the perpetrator had been reported.
What is your initial response to a likely Islamic-related terrorist attack in such a big city, such a popular tourist destination, and what one would have expected to be such a well-protected area?
Initially, the jihadi attackers went for targets like buildings and airplanes – difficult targets, took them a great deal of planning, money, communications, and the like.
These days, they go for much simpler targets, like people on the street, renting a truck or a car, using a kitchen knife. And really in the end there’s no way of stopping these, except by being very careful about who one lets into the country. In all likelihood … Someone who arrived in the United States, who was not fully vetted, and who is now attacking, because we’ve seen this happening so many times before.
Does that say that the authorities cannot stop these attacks, no matter what they do they’re actually vulnerable. Ultimately, they can’t do anything.
Of course. How can they stop a kitchen knife, or a truck being rented? How can they stop that? The only way they can do it is by being careful as to who comes into the country. And once they’re in the country, by taking measures to watch and curtail the activities of potential jihadis.

Some of the locations were built for the express purpose of providing members Islamic guerrilla warfare training.

US Backs Killing ISIS Foreign Fighters

A fighter of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) stands guard on a rooftop in Raqa on October 20, 2017, after retaking the city from Islamic State (IS) group fighters. SDF fighters flushed jihadist holdouts from Raqqa's main hospital and municipal stadium, wrapping up a more than four-month offensive against what used to be the inner sanctum of ISIS's self-proclaimed 'caliphate,' which for three years saw some of the group's worst abuses and grew into a center for both its potent propaganda machine and its unprecedented experiment in jihadist statehood.

Foreign fighters who have travelled to Syria to join and fight for the Islamic State must die in Syria, a leading envoy to the global coalition against ISIS has said.
“Our mission is to make sure any foreign fighter who is here, who joined ISIS from a foreign country and came into Syria, they will die here in Syria,” Brett McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS, told media, as reported by The Daily Mail.
His remarks came after Kurdish-led forces captured the ISIS capital of Raqqa last week.
“So if they’re in Raqqa, they’re going to die in Raqqa,” McGurk added.
McGurk’s announcement follows that of French Defense Minister Florence Parly. “What we want is to go to the end of this combat, she told reporters, “And, of course, if jihadists die in the fighting, then I’d say it’s for the best.”
The British also agree.
“They are absolutely dedicated, as members of the Islamic State, towards the creation of a caliphate,” Rory Stewart, Minister of State for Africa at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“They believe in an extremely hateful doctrine which involves killing themselves, killing others and trying to use violence and brutality to create an 8th Century, or 7th Century, state. So I’m afraid we have to be serious about the fact these people are a serious danger to us, and unfortunately, the only way of dealing with them will be, in almost every case, to kill them.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri fled the country for fear of his life. Speaking from an undisclosed location in Saudi Arabia where he took refuge during a trip to Riyadh, Hariri announced his resignation.
He blamed Iran and Hezbollah for plotting to kill him and lambasted Iran’s “evil” influence in the region.
“We are living in a climate similar to the atmosphere that prevailed before the assassination of martyr Rafik Hariri,” he said.
Rafik Hariri was Saad’s father and the former prime minister who was assassinated in 2005, in what was widely believed to be by the hand of Hezbollah. “I am aware of what is being plotted to target my life,” he continued.
“The evil that Iran spreads in the region will backfire on it,” Hariri vowed. “Iran has a grip on the fate of the region’s countries … Hezbollah is Iran’s arm not just in Lebanon but in other Arab countries too.”
Hariri was in office less than a year. He presided over a nation unity cabinet that included Hezbollah.

1.It Was Not a “Lone Wolf” Attack
In addition to a potential accomplice that has since been arrested, an image of an ISIS flag on a cellphone near the location of the terrorist attack in NY surfaced two months ago.
According to the police complaint against Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, the 29-year-old began planning the attack close to a year ago. The complaint asserts that Saipov watched and was inspired by ISIS videos.
One of the two cellphones that were found in the truck had close to 90 violent ISIS propaganda videos on it, some with information on how to make a bomb.
John Miller, deputy New York police commissioner for intelligence, noted that Saipov “appears to have followed, almost exactly to a ‘T,’ the instructions that ISIS has put out.”
Two months before the attack, this picture taken near the site of the attack surfaced.
It is highly unlikely that Saipov was not communicating to other ISIS followers and leaders who most likely encouraged, supported and even aided him in carrying out the attack.
Terrorist “cells” do not necessarily have to be in physical proximity in the age of online communication.
As for an accomplice, the man the police were looking for was named as Mukhammadzoir Kadirov, a 32-year-old Uzbekistan national. “We have found him and I’ll leave it at that,” said William Sweeney, head of the New York FBI office.

The Pakistani leader of MOA, Sheikh Mubarak Gilani, was recorded in a secret recruitment video saying the purpose of the camps is to “prepare them to defend themselves and give them highly specialized training in guerrilla warfare.”
In the private video, he tells his American Muslim followers, “We will train you to be like tigers and lions.”
Problems for the group started in April of this year when Jihad Ray, 27, was arrested for murder after shooting Brandon Hernandez, 22, outside an after-hours nightclub on the West Side of Binghamton, NY.
Jihad Ray, who one source says has stayed at the “Islamberg” commune that hosts the organization’s headquarters in Hancock, NY, pled guilty to Hernandez’s shooting death on October 18. He’ll be sentenced to 18 years in prison on December 14.
A motive for the killing is unclear, though police suspect it was gang related.

Can Extreme Vetting Work?

The San Bernardino attackers Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik. Authorities were not allowed to look at Malik’s social media posts as part of her vetting process.
Days before the deadly October 31 Manhattan terror attack by Sayfullo Saipov, Middle East Forum Washington Project Director Clifford Smith gave a conference call briefing on “extreme vetting.” The following a summary of his remarks compiled by Marilyn Stern, communications coordinator for the Middle East Forum.
In a December 2015 article, Daniel Pipes criticized Donald Trump’s proposed blanket ban on the entry of Muslims to the United States as unconstitutional and strategically unsound.
Instead, he suggested that the ban be only applied to Islamists, the estimated 10-15% of Muslims worldwide who believe in theocratic government and the supremacy of sharia (Islamic law) over national laws. In January 2017, as Trump was about to take office, Dr. Pipes proposed a string of specific measures aimed at “Smoking Out Islamists Via Extreme Vetting.”
In an apparent shift in this direction, President Trump’s January 27, 2017 executive order sought to prevent the entry of foreign terrorists into the United States by distinguishing between bona fide Muslim migrants and those placing violent ideologies over American law.
Yet, while offering a healthy antidote to the Obama administration’s aloofness to Islamist terrorism, the executive order’s vetting process seems wanting in a number of key respects.
To begin with, the questioning of prospective Muslim immigrants should not focus on their religion, as many Muslims ascribe to interpretations of Islam that are not theocratic and totalitarian. Rather the questioning should rather take a holistic approach regarding the applicant’s ideology.
Through a series of questions posed in different ways and in different situations, officials can gain insights into the person’s general worldview and the extent of his/her subscription to the fundamental precepts underpinning the American way of life.
Accompanied by close scrutiny of applicants’ social media accounts and other public writings, as well as more specific questions aimed at revealing beliefs that run counter to American values, norms and practices (e.g., equal rights, freedom of religion, etc.), this questioning can provide a more conclusive method to distinguish between moderates and radicals.
By way of institutionalizing these vetting methods, the Middle East Forum’s Washington Project, in consultation with both members of Congress, their staffs, and administration officials, developed and introduced new legislation incorporating MEF’s recommendations into a bill, one which safeguards the security of all Americans, Muslim and non-Muslim.
These ideas have been enthusiastically received by White House officials tasked with homeland security and judicial issues.

Trump To End Diversity Visa Lottery Program

Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, originally from Uzbekistan, entered the United States after winning the “Diversity Visa Lottery,” a genuine U.S. government program which awards green cards randomly. Applicants from around the world apply each year to the system, which awards around 50,000 green cards in a lottery to lucky winners.
Saipov, the terrorist who killed eight, was one such winner.
The program has awarded around one million green cards since it was introduced in 1990. Now Trump wants to end it and replace it with a merit-based system which uses points. “We are fighting hard for Merit Based immigration, no more Democrat Lottery Systems. We must get MUCH tougher (and smarter),” the President tweeted.
Saipov came into America using the system in 2010. He moved to Tampa, Florida and then later to New Jersey. But he didn’t come alone.
“This man that came in – or whatever you want to call him – brought in, with him, other people,” President Trump said in a discussion about immigration policy. “And he was a point, he was the point of contact – the primary point of contact for, and this is preliminarily – 23 people that came in, or potentially came in with him. And that’s not acceptable.”

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev gestures at a surveillance camera while inside prison. The photo was used by the prosecutors in his trial to show he felt no remorse for his crime.
There were 443 convicted terrorists imprisoned in the United States (as of April 2016), according to The New York Times. They are serving sentences for crimes ranging from sharing ISIS propaganda online to carrying out terror attacks on U.S soil.
We are taking a snapshot of some of those people and telling you their stories.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
Brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev killed three people and injured hundred (including 16 who lost limbs) in a bombing carried out at the Boston Marathon on April 13, 2013. They set two homemade pressure cooker bombs, which detonated 12 seconds apart at the finish line of the race as it was drawing to a close.
The brothers remained at large for several days in the city as police struggled to identify the perpetrators. But on April 18, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar shot and killed MIT police officer Sean Collier before hijacking a car and speeding off. Police gave chase while the brothers fired guns and hurled explosives at them in return.
The elder Tamerlan was shot during the pursuit and later died of his wounds in a hospital. Dzhokhar escaped, and a lengthy manhunt ensued to track him down. He was found the following evening, bleeding profusely and hiding in a boat.
Three more people were arrested, accomplices who helped hide Dzhokhar while he was on the run.
The Tsarnaev family was from Chechnya, but Tamerlan and Dzhokhar grew up in the United States. Dzhokhar, who was nicknamed “Jahar,” enjoyed wrestling and had shown no previous signs of radicalized views.
Rolling Stone Magazine caused a controversy when they published a sympathetic feature on Dzhokhar three months after the bombing. The article featured descriptions of Dzhokhar from friends who perceived him as “a beautiful, tousle-haired boy with a gentle demeanor, soulful brown eyes and the kind of shy, laid-back manner that ‘made him that dude you could always just vibe with.’”
Tsarnaev was sentenced to death in June 2015. Prior to Judge George O’Toole passing sentence, Dhokhar gave the following address to the court:
“I would like to now apologize to the victims, to the survivors. I want to ask forgiveness of Allah and his creation. I am sorry for the lives I have taken, for the suffering that I have caused you, for the damage I have done – irreparable damage. In case there is any doubt, I am guilty of this attack, along with my brother.”
“When your name is mentioned all that will be remembered is the evil you have done,” Judge O’Toole responded.
Tsarnaev was being held in a prion in Florence, Colorado. One month after the trial, he was moved to the ADX supermax section of the prison, dubbed “The Alcatraz of the Rockies,” while his appeals are conducted. Cells in the prison are 87 square feet. Tsarnaev is kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day.
ADX is the only federal supermax prison and houses Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, shoe bomber Richard Reid and 9/11 co-conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui as well.
He will eventually be moved to Terre Haute, Indiana, where federal death row inmates are executed.
In July 2016, Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri warned of “grave consequences” for America if Tsarnaev was executed.

NYC Terrorist: Lone Wolf … or Not?

An ISIS ad encouraging jiahdi attacks on Halloween in France (Photo: ISIS propaganda)
ISIS had called on its supporters through social media to carry out attacks on Halloween. For example, in France, a country in which young people recently started celebrating the holiday, an ad appeared the day before Halloween with an image of a machete dripping blood over the Eiffel Tower.
The text on the ad (shown above) read: “Enjoy their gathering. Terrorize October 31” and “Get out before it’s too late,” seemingly a message to the French to abandon their country to jihadis.
The image was shared on a Twitter account that distributes news about Islamic State (ISIS), jihadi videos and images.
ISIS’ own magazine Rumiyah has extensively encouraged its followers to conduct “lone wolf” vehicular attacks, with one issue providing a step-by-step guide on how to procure a heavy truck and perpetrate such an attack.
In the guide, ISIS recommended to avoid “off-roaders, SUVs, and four-wheel drive vehicles” because they “lack the necessary attributes required for causing a blood bath.”
“Smaller vehicles lack the weight and wheel span required for crushing many victims,” the article stated, while double-wheeled trucks “[give] victims less of a chance to escape being crushed by the vehicle’s tires.”
While attacks such as the one in New York may have carried out by one person, calling such attack the work of a “lone wolf” is deceiving.

Aftermath of the truck attack which killed eight in Manhattan on Tuesday October 31, 2017 (Photo: DON EMMERT/AFP/Getty Images)
Tuesday’s terrorist attack in New York was carried out by a 29-year-old man who rented a Home Depot truck and drove it onto a bike path. Such forms of attack are extremely simple to carry out. They need no planning, no coordination with a central organization and are not difficult to obtain equipment.

They are therefore impossible to completely stop with security measures alone.

Counter-extremism organization the Quilliam Foundation said of the attack:

“This unfortunate incident once again highlights the importance of focusing resources on deradicalization work and implementing a better strategy to prevent extremism, as incidents of this nature are extremely difficult, if not impossible, for security services to predict and stop.”

New York is not unguarded. Entering the United States requires extensive security checks. Immigration from countries like Uzbekistan (the nationality of the terrorist) is complex and requires background checks.

Not only that, but once an attack is underway there are armed police everywhere. In this case, the terrorist was shot very promptly at the scene by a nearby uniformed officer.

The FBI and CIA carry out extensive surveillance operations around the world. They monitor correspondence, tap phone conversations and pay informants. They have spies inside foreign governments and inside terrorist organizations. They have reconnaissance satellites in space.

America’s security services work tirelessly to protect the country from every conceivable foe, and most of the time they succeed. The United States government spends over $16 billion annually to counter terrorism. They can even use drones to kill any designated target pretty much anywhere in the world.
But with all this technology and money, they cannot read people’s minds and cannot prevent someone from just deciding to run people over with a truck.

A terrorist mowed down cyclists in Manhattan with a truck on Tuesday, killing eight people and injuring at least 11 others. Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov drove a rental truck onto a bike path near the site of the World Trade Center and continued for several blocks before he crashed into a school bus.
Witnesses report Saipov emerged from the truck brandishing two guns and shouting “Allahu Akbar!” A uniformed police officer shot him in the abdomen. The guns were later revealed to be a paintball gun and a pellet gun.
Saipov, 29, was taken to hospital and is now in police custody. A note claiming the attack in the name of the Islamic State terrorist group was found in the truck. Saipov is an Uzbek national who came to the United States in 2010.
“This was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror,” New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement, “aimed at innocent civilians, aimed at people going about their lives who had no idea what was about to hit them.”
U.S.President Donald Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Christopher Wray have all been briefed. The FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force has taken over the investigation.
“In NYC, looks like another attack by a very sick and deranged person. Law enforcement is following this closely. NOT IN THE U.S.A.!” Trump tweeted in the wake of the attack.

In the following video, Palestinian-Jordanian historian Husni Ayesh, a former member of Jordan’s Board of Education, says that ISIS and al-Qaeda developed from the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood. He says that the prevalence of the Islamist ideology stems from the people’s exposure to its teachings and propaganda following their disillusionment with other ideologies, such as Communism and Baathism, after the Arab’s 1967 defeat.

The British government is weighing giving rent subsidies and other benefits to terror suspects, according to leaked government documents seen by The Mail on Sunday.
The plan, called Operation Constrain, will target 20,000 extremists previously investigated by the British government for possible terrorist links.
“We are planning a number of pilots to explore the best way to diverting such people from terrorism and extremist activity,” a government source told the Mail on Sunday.
The scheme, set to roll out next year, will focus only on “persons of interest,” who were investigated by M15, Britain’s secret service, but then dropped from surveillance. Police and social workers would contact them and speak to them about what how best to reintegrate them into society. A local panel would then determine what assistance would be most effective and what to provide. That could include a rent subsidy, priority for state-owned social housing, mental health support or job training.
It was not reported if the plan will include a deradicalization element to address possible dangerous beliefs.
News of the plan has prompted pushback. “This sounds like a reward for being on a list of potential terrorists. You can’t buy people’s loyalty to this country,” said Andrew Brigden, Conservative MP for north west Leicestershire, speaking to the press.
Others have pressed the government for more action to stop terror.

BY CLARION PROJECT Monday, October 30, 2017

A new book by a former editor in chief of The New York Times Magazine and best-selling author reveals for the first time an FBI field report about the collusion between American anti-Trump radicals and foreign ISIS/al-Qaeda operatives.

In his latest book, All Out War: The Plot to Destroy Trump, set to be released today, Edward Klein reveals to the public findings from an FBI investigation into the shocking ties between far-left radicals in America and Islamist extremists.

The FBI report was delivered to Acting Director Andrew McCabe on July 11, 2017. While certain names have been redacted, Klein reveals how the FBI followed a group of Americans anarchists/radicals who traveled to Germany to join their German counterpart Antifaschistische Aktion to protest Trump’s attendance at a meeting of G20 leaders and central bank governors.

Evidence gathered from a variety of intelligence sources showed the Americans took part in the violence there. “There is also evidence of meetings between these individuals and associates of ISIS…Making some sort of common cause with Americans who are determined to commit violence against the U.S. makes them potentially very useful to radical Islam,” writes Klein based on the report.

Klein notes that the FBI paid particular attention to a group of anarchists from Oakland, sister city to Berkeley, California, site of the campus of University of California at Berkeley and the scene of several violent protests.

“Now that the bureau has determined [ISIS/al-Qaeda] have followers in the radical U.S. resistance movement in the United States, it is clear there will be additional violence in the attacks on law enforcement and U.S. institutions, including banks,” he writes.
In an article written for the Daily Mail, Klein continues:

The recent disclosure about the extent of American military involvement in Niger has sparked a new debate in Congress about the need to rewrite the protocols for the Authorization for the Use of Military Force, known as AUMF.

Since 9/11, when more powers to deploy U.S. forces were given to the White House, Republicans and Democrats have argued about how much power Congress should give the president as well as the Pentagon in these matters, reported Reuters.

Formal declarations of war fall under the purview of Congress, according to the U.S. Constitution.

“What’s happening in Niger and more broadly in Africa suggests a greater urgency for an AUMF,” commented Senator Tim Kaine (D-Virginia), who would like to see a new version of the authorization written. “I think the extent of the operation, the number of countries, will be surprising to people.”
Kaine was one of the senators privy to a classified briefing conducted by Pentagon officials on the situation in Niger.

The following article represents the opinion of the author. Clarion Project welcomes your thoughts on this subject. For a submission or comment, please write by clicking here.
There is a question that we all struggle with, and one that many people may find difficult to answer:
When does teaching the facts about Islam morph into becoming religious brainwashing, indoctrination, propaganda or evangelizing?
I don’t think many parents are opposed to teaching students about the history of Islam, its achievements, its failures, its struggles and even its victories — as long as these studies are taught accurately, without political or religious motive, and are not given favorable treatment over other major religions of the world.
Perhaps most of us can agree that this should be the educational standard for presenting the subject of Islam in the public schools. But does such a definition really work?

U.S. President Donald Trump directed the State Department to pull funding from “ineffective” programs run by the United Nations to help persecuted and displaced religious minority communities in the Middle East and use the money instead to fund programs run directly by the U.S., faith-based groups and private organizations.
The announcement was made by Vice-President Mike Pence, who also said he was directed by the president to travel to the Middle East in December, Fox News reported.
The move is being made to help persecuted Christian and minority groups in the region who have been devastated by Islamic State (ISIS). Pence said the U.N. has “too often failed to help the most vulnerable communities, especially religious minorities.”

Leading U.S. political figures Senator John McCain and National Security Adviser H. R. McMaster have called for America to ensure Kurdish security and curb Iranian influence. Iraqi forces recently seized disputed territories including the city of Kirkuk from the Kurds as tensions mount following the Kurdistan independence referendum.
President Trump has long warned about the dangers to American security posed by Iranian ambitions. Iran is steadfastly opposed to a Kurdish state.
“What we would like to see in Iraq is a stable Iraq that is not aligned with Iran,” McMaster told a meeting of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
He clarified that “part of a strong Iraq is a strong Kurdish region where we have very long-time partners whose partnership we value tremendously, who you know, who bore the brunt of Saddam Hussein’s brutality over many years and who we intervene on their behalf as everyone knows after 1991 and they used the safety and security we helped provide that region to build a—phenomenal communities in Sulaymaniyah, and Erbil and in Dohuk. I mean these are southern European thriving cities when you go to the Kurdish region.”

Michigan Terror Suspect Admits Supporting ISIS

Yousef Mohammed Ramadan (Photo: Video screenshot)
Yousef Mohammad Ramadan, a terror suspect arrested in August, has admitted to being an Islamic State (ISIS) supporter and preparing pipe bombs.
Federal court records seen by The Detroit News revealed previously unknown facts about the case.
The former security guard, 28, watched Islamic State propaganda movies and boasted that a terrorist attack would be easier to carry out in America than elsewhere.
Ramadan was arrested while attempting to board a plane to Jordan at the Detroit Metropolitan airport, with the final destination of Israel. Police searched his luggage and found pepper spray, knives, a stun gun, black masks, two-way radios, a gas mask and a tactical vest, according to a search warrant record. When police searched his electronic devices they found videos of him firing pistols, rifles and a sniper rifle. They also found videos of Islamic State propaganda and photos of a homemade pipe bomb.
Ramadan admitted he had made the pipe bomb, which he claimed was made overseas and for experimental purposes.
Regarding the ISIS propaganda, “Ramadan stated that he likes and watches all aspects of combat footage,” an FBI agent wrote. “He claimed that he does support ISIS’ goal of establishing … an Islamic State, but that he does not support their methods of violence to achieve that goal, instead preferring a peaceful approach to converting non-believers into the Muslim religion and/or forming an Islamic State.”
He told investigators if he wanted to carry out a terrorist attack, he would have done it in the United States, which would have been much easier.
The investigation is ongoing.
He is being held without bond and has been indicted on two counts of knowingly possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. If convicted for that charge, he faces a prison sentence of up to five years.
In August 2016, the Daily Caller reported 31 ISIS suspects had been arrested over the previous year in the U.S.

CNN reports on the United Arab Emirate’s designation of CAIR as a terrorist entity (Photo: video screenshot)
The largest student organization at Harvard University is giving the founder and executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) a prestigious award in November.
Nihad Awad will be honored with a guest lecture followed by receipt of the Ivy League university’s Phillips Brooks House Association’s 2017 Robert Coles “Call of Service” award. Previous recipients have included former vice president Al Gore.
Awad was a member of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee, a secret body set up to advance Hamas and the overall Islamist agenda. He was recorded at a 1993 meeting discussing how to support Hamas and the “goals, strategies and American perceptions of the Muslim Brotherhood” in the U.S.
CAIR was also listed by federal prosecutors as an entity of the Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee.
For more information on CAIR, read Clarion Project’s Fact Sheet on CAIR
CAIR has a history of Islamist extremism. The U.S. Justice Department labeled CAIR an “unindicted co-conspirator” in an enormous Hamas terror-financing trial involving the Holy Land Foundation and listed CAIR as a U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entity.
In 2008, the FBI officially ended its use of CAIR as a Muslim outreach partner after the designation by the Justice Department.
In 2014, CAIR was designated a terrorist organization on by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Turkish Father Honor Kills Himself Live on Facebook
BY MEIRA SVIRSKY Thursday, October 26, 2017
Ayhun Uzun, who reportedly killed honor himself on Facebook Live (Photos: Facebook screenshot)
In a twist to the concept of honor killing, a father in Turkey killed himself live on Facebook after claiming his family had dishonored him in connection with his daughter’s upcoming marriage, the Daily Mail reported.
Ayhun Uzun, 54, from the city of Kayseri in located in central Turkey, was furious that his daughter had not sought his approval before getting engaged.
In a rant on Facebook Live, he further complained, “’Nobody asked about me. Nobody treated me like a man. My father-in-law took my place and without having a right he approved my daughter’s wedding.
“Nobody said this girl’s father is alive. Though I would have waited for my daughter and family to say to me: ‘Come father, be with us.’”
Instead, he said the family called him and said, “Father come have a treat.”
While family members sent messages on Facebook imploring him not to go through with it, Uzun continued, “Maybe some of you will call this a show. I do not want anybody to go through this thing that I am going through.
“I am livestreaming tonight, and it is my will, I do not want the ones who put me in this position to attend my funeral.”
Uzun then took out a pistol and said his last words: “Goodbye, I am leaving, take good care of yourselves.” He then counted to three and reportedly shot himself.
He could be seen collapsing. Uzun’s family later confirmed that they found him dead after rushing to his house.

The USS Boxer, where Warsame was originally interrogated (Photo: U.S. Navy)
Part Two: Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame
Warsame was a leading al-Qaeda operative who plead guilty to nine terrorism charges in 2011 but cooperated with the government and provided information about other terrorists. His official indictment lists the charges against him as “providing material support to al-Shabaab and al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP)—two designated foreign terrorist organizations—as well as conspiring to teach and demonstrate the making of explosives, possessing firearms and explosives in furtherance of crimes of violence.”
Warsame was captured in 2011 from a fishing boat off the coast of Aden in Yemen by a U.S. Navy ship.
Pleading with the Navy Seals who captured him not to send him to Guantanamo Bay, he decided to cooperate. He went on to provide testimony that led to the capture and convictions of dozens of other terrorists.
He told the Americans he joined the Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab to fight against the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia. He fought there as a commander in 2009, leading hundreds of fighters. Warsame also traveled to Yemen in 2010 for explosives training.

US Backs Killing ISIS Foreign Fighters
Home > Political Islam > In the US > National Security > US Backs Killing ISIS Foreign Fighters
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Thursday, October 26, 2017

We are taking a snapshot of some of those people and telling you their stories.
Part One: Zacarias Moussaoui
Zacarias Moussaoui, 49, is currently serving six life sentences without parole for his part in the 9/11 attacks.
He is a French citizen of Moroccan descent. He moved around and spent significant time in the UK associating with London-based extremists. Moussaoui is known to have affiliated with Al-Muhajiroun, Anjem Choudary’s organization (Choudary was convicted and sent to prison last year for supporting ISIS). He also traveled to an al-Qaeda training camp in Afghanistan and to visit a top al-Qaeda lieutenant in Pakistan.
Moussaoui learned to fly planes at a flight school in Oklahoma but aroused the suspicions of the instructors after asking odd questions. They reported him to the FBI.
In August 2001, unable to obtain a search warrant to go through his personal effects, the FBI arrested him for an immigration violation. But after 9/11 his case was reopened. Agents soon obtained a search warrant and found information linking him to the 9/11 hijackers.
In December 2001, he was indicted and charged with:
Conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries
Conspiracy to commit aircraft piracy
Conspiracy to destroy aircraft
Conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction
Conspiracy to murder United States employees
Conspiracy to destroy property

Islamic history is something we do not debate or discuss. We accept it as handed down to us. So we have villains who have been made into heroes and heroes who remain unidentified.
Case in point: Mughal emperor Aurangzeb was a ruthless and merciless ruler who had no qualms about assassinating his brothers or imprisoning his father. He is celebrated as a hero.
On the other hand, Mughal emperor Shah Jahan’s son Dara Shikoh had a pluralistic vision but was put to death by Aurangzeb and his good works are hidden in history.
When today’s world becomes history, I wonder how George W. Bush will be remembered. Muslims have pre-conceived notions about him due to the war in Iraq and the incursion into Afghanistan.
I, too, have been guilty of such thoughts.
However, I had the pleasure of meeting ex-president George Bush (yes Dubya or GW as he is fondly called) at a luncheon where he was given an award by a local foundation.
I realised that when a politician stops being a politician, he or she becomes human. This is what I saw in George Bush – an entirely different person who is warm, compassionate and full of humor.
President Bush was interviewed by Canadian Senator Linda Frum for one hour in which she asked him very pertinent questions. I was so impressed that I had to make notes. Although much of what he said was “quote worthy,” I note here a few points that particularly touched me.

Why Liberal Muslims Support Conservative Parties

There was a time when liberal Muslims in the West were mainly aligned with liberal parties.
But while seeing mass Islamic ghettos in the West during the past two decades, liberal parties started aligning themselves with traditional Mosque establishments and Islamic centers of the Muslim Brotherhood and Jamaat-e-Islami for the sake of their vote banks.
That was the turning point for left-leaning liberal Muslims and when they started looking for their options.
Liberal Muslims can’t get along with left or liberal parties that support sharia laws, motions or laws about so-called Islamophobia, niqab or veil advocacy, Islamic banking, prayer rooms in public schools and Islamic ghettoization.
Now, liberal parties all across Western countries support the veil, niqabs and burkas of few Muslim women in the name of charter of freedom. Liberal Muslims argue that these items do not represent a dress code; rather, they are masks over the dress.
How could one accept concealing identity tactics in the name of the Charter of Freedoms?
But from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Labour Party leadership in Britian, liberal parties are endorsing women’s face covering inequality in the name of equality.
The Western world separated religion and politics long ago, but when it comes to Islamic communities some the two get mixed in the name of religious rights.
However, liberals don’t know that burkas and veils are not subscribed in Islam, either. A great proof is that Muslim women are not allowed to wear such face masks during Islam’s most holy Hajj pilgrimage.
Islamophobia is a new term that liberal parties and traditional Islamic organizations are in love with.
Islamophobia is generally defined as a dislike of or prejudice against Islam or Muslims, especially as a political force. Traditional Islamic centers created this term and spread it around through their actions.

1 “No-go zone in Cologne’s inner city” screamed the headlines of the German newspaper Die Welt, while District Mayor Andreas Hupke said to reporters, “Police have given up on the Ebertplatz area.” The local newspaper Express reported “Ebertplatz is degenerating into a lawless area in the middle of Cologne city.” The area is reportedly made up of young migrants from North and Sub-Sahara Africa who are dealing drugs and have formed gangs.Cologne was made famous by migrant rape gangs on New Year’s Eve in 2015, where more than 1,200 women were sexually assaulted and robbed in front of the central station and other locations. According to Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia state Ralf Jaeger “Most of the cases [of rape and sexual assault in Cologne] will remain unsolved.”

2 Meanwhile in Sweden, 20 members of the Moderate Party requested the army be sent in to restore order to the country’s most dangerous “no-go zones,” Breitbart reported. “The situation in our areas of exclusion has deteriorated. The gangs have taken over and the police have had to retreat. Swedish law no longer applies there,” said Moderate Party politician Mikael Cederbratt. “It is absolutely necessary to do something, because these gangs are like cancerous tumors in our country, and it is urgent. My absolute belief is that we, the nation of Sweden, must declare war on criminal gangs.“It is the responsibility of the state to maintain the law, especially the police. But the police today do not have the numerical ability to maintain public order,” he added.

The Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization celebrated the Iraqi take-over of the city of Kirkuk from the Kurds, calling it a victory over the U.S. and Israel, Rudaw.net reported.
“Our victory in Kirkuk is a victory over the U.S. and Israel and an answer to Trump’s threats to Iran,” said Sheikh Nabil Qaouk, deputy head of Hezbollah’s executive council and the lead Hezbollah official in Lebanon.
Qaouk was right
The U.S.’s emphatic desertion of the Kurds – before, during and after their historic referendum calling for independence – paved the way for an Iranian takeover of the region, in continuation of its push to create a Shiite crescent in the Middle East and dominate the region.
Never mind that the takeover of Kirkurk was made infinitely easier by the Kurdish Talabani faction, representing the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), through a deal made with Iran. In exchange for a cut in the profits from Kirkurk’s strategic oil fields and a role in running the civil government of the city, the Kurdish PUK forces rolled over and played dead, allowing Iraqi forces to take over the city without a fight.

Military officers being rounded up and arrested in Erdogan’s post-coup sweep (Photo: video screenshot); inset: Paster Andrew Brunson (Photo: family)
New details have come to light about an America pastor who has lived in Turkey for 23 years and was arrested in the sweep of “dissidents” following the failed coup attempt in Turkey in the summer of 2016.
Human rights activists viewed the arrests as an excuse for Islamist President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to round up all those with whose politics – or religion – he disagreed.
Pastor Andrew Brunson, 49, was held without charges for close to a year. Last August, the Turkish government charged him with “spying” and “insurgency” against the government and membership in an unnamed armed terrorist organization, demanding the that he be given four consecutive life sentences.
Sign the petition to free American Pastor Andrew Brunson by clicking here
The organization was later named as the network of Erdogan’s arch rival, Fethullah Gullen, a Turkish cleric living in America whom Erdogan claims was behind the coup.
To date, the Erdogan has ordered the rounding up of more than 50,000 Turks – including military officers, judges, police, professors, lawyers and journalists – whom he accuses of being “Gulenists.”
For almost a year, Brunson and his lawyer were denied access to the legal files containing the charges against the pastor.

FBI counter-terrorism agents arrested a Miami man for attempting to detonate a bomb in the Dolphin Mall, the Miami Herald reported.
A confidential informant tipped off the FBI about Vicente Solano’s intention to detonate a weapon of mass destruction at the large mall in Doral, a northern suburb of Miami.
Although authorities believe he was acting alone, Solano made pro-Islamic State videos before setting off for the attack. He was arrested while planning to detonate a fake bomb he had acquired from undercover FBI agents.
As of 2015, the FBI said they had ongoing terror investigations in all 50 states of the U.S.

The defeat of Raqqa, Islamic State’s self-declared capital, means the end of the caliphate is in sight, said U.S. President Donald Trump. The president also said this means the U.S. will “transition to a new phase” in its involvement in the Syrian war.
“The defeat of ISIS in Raqqah represents a critical breakthrough in our worldwide campaign to defeat ISIS and its wicked ideology,” the president said in a statement released October 21, 2017. “With the liberation of ISIS’s capital and the vast majority of its territory, the end of the ISIS caliphate is in sight.
“We will soon transition into a new phase in which we will support local security forces, de-escalate violence across Syria, and advance the conditions for lasting peace, so that the terrorists cannot return to threaten our collective security again.”
Earlier in the week, Trump said the defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria was made possible through a “change in the rules of engagement,” something he said he promised during his campaign and instituted after becoming president.
“As a result, ISIS strongholds in Mosul and Raqqah have fallen,” Trump said. “We have made, alongside our coalition partners, more progress against these evil terrorists in the past several months than in the past several years.”
Earlier in the week, Trump claimed credit for the defeat of ISIS, saying it hadn’t happened previously because “you didn’t have Trump as your President.”
However, the terrorist group still maintains pockets of control in Syria and Iraq that are proving to be very deadly. In Mosul, which was liberated by coalition forces in July 2017, an ISIS cell invaded the city October 20, through one of the numerous islands located in the Tigris River which runs through the center of the city. Members of the cell broke into a home and slaughtered a mother and her two children. The family was targeted for their membership in a Sunni tribal organization involved in fighting against ISIS.
Mosul, the third largest city in Iraq, was taken over by Islamic State in June 2014.

New evidence suggests the Muslim Brotherhood has big plans for the U.S. and a variety of countries around the globe that involve hundreds of millions of dollars in a bid to gain political influence.
The exact details come from a mole inside a meeting of Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Istanbul, Turkey, and made public in Arabic by the Egyptian news outlet 7th Day.
The gathering took place at the city’s Akgun Hotel with members of the Brotherhood’s U.S.-based revolutionary council among the 21 in attendance.
United States
Much of the conversation focused on attempts to curry favor in Congress.
They reportedly met North Carolina Democrat Congressman David Price – notable for his early condemnation of the 2003 war in Iraq, Californian Congressman Alan Lowenthal and centrist New York Republican John Faso.
The Istanbul meeting was told how Brotherhood officials heard from Price and Lowenthal that they would try to reduce U.S. aid to Egypt by 40 percent by the end of 2017. The Brotherhood is deeply opposed to the current pro-American regime in Cairo.
The organization held rallies in New York’s Times Square and with CAIR and other Islamist organizations in Illinois and Boston.
Among those said to have attended a Brotherhood-backed event was former Barack Obama adviser Dalia Mogahed.
Help Clarion Project educate Congress on the Muslim Brotherhood.
Qatar
Alongside Turkey, Qatar appears to be the main backer of the Brotherhood – to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.
Doha has funneled $100 million to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt since 2014, 7th Day reported. The money was to be used for political and media campaigns as well as supporting the families of Brotherhood members serving time in Egyptian jails. The meeting heard how some 200,000 bank accounts were used in order to transfer the funds. Clarion recently reported on the Muslim Brotherhood’s huge international piggy bank.
Educational Influence
The brotherhood set up its own international university in 2016 with branches in the UK, Canada, Malaysia, Sudan and Thailand. This allows the MB’s disciples from Egypt to legally enter other countries.
The college quickly established partnerships with local universities in several countries. Its degrees are recognized in states including the UK.
Staff recruitment is also an opportunity to bolster the ranks of the wider organization.
The brotherhood also created the UK- and Irish-based Doctors for Freedom to lobby for the release of members currently in Egyptian jails.

Why Isn’t Trump Helping the Kurds?

Two different sets of U.S. allies are now in open conflict in Iraq.
The autonomous Kurdish Region, located in northern Iraq, seeks to break away and form an independent state, while the federal government based in Baghdad views the attempt as illegitimate.
After weeks of mounting tension, Iraqi state-aligned militia forces rolled into the strategically important city of Kirkuk, a disputed area on the border just outside the Kurdistan Region. Kurdish forces defending the city withdrew, the Kurdish flag was pulled down and the Iraqi federal flag hoisted.
Both the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi forces were equipped with U.S. made weaponry.
The bold move came after Kurdistan refused to annul an independence referendum held three weeks ago where the Kurds overwhelmingly voted “yes” to independence.
But the Iraqi federal government is not acting alone.
Iraq, Turkey and Iran have made it very clear that they will not allow an independent Kurdish state to be established. Both Iran and Turkey have sizeable minority Kurdish populations which could try to break away should the Kurdish region of Iraq gain independence.
The Iraqi People’s Mobilization Units (PMU), who comprised a large proportion of the force which took Kirkuk, are back by Iran. Turkey has also agreed to hand over control of a checkpoint on the Iraqi-Turkish border to Iraqi federal authorities.
So where does the United States stand?
You would be forgiven for thinking the U.S. would be backing the Kurds. We know the Kurds love U.S. President Trump. Samantha Bee even did a special on why the Kurds love him so much. It may have something to do with the fact that he’s the first American president to arm them.
Trump is currently embroiled in a war of words with Turkey. He suspended non-immigration visas from Turkey last week, leading Erdogan to retort “we are not beholden to you” and respond in kind. Such comments may find a fertile audience, Turkey expert Cengiz Candar reported for Al-Monitor this week.

A group of U.S. military veterans and relatives of soldiers killed or wounded in Iraq filed suit against five pharmaceutical and medical equipment giants, accusing them of funding the Islamist terrorist militia responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq.
As reported by The Financial Times, the lawsuit names the parent companies and subsidiaries of AstraZeneca, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Roche Holding.
These companies stand accused of paying bribes to the Iraqi Ministry of Health to win contracts. The ministry was known to be controlled by the Mahdi Army, an extremely anti-American, Shiite terrorist militia backed Hezbollah, the Iranian-funded Lebanese terrorist organization.
The suit charges that money from these bribes was used to fund the militia – allowing them to buy weapons, train fighters and conduct logistic support.
“Defendants’ corrupt transactions aided and abetted Jaysh al-Mahdi’s terrorist operations against Americans in Iraq,” the lawsuit states.
The U.S. military suffered tremendous losses between 2005 and 2009 at the hands of the Mahdi Army. The lawsuit includes a 27-page itemized list of U.S. soldiers killed or injured at the hands of the terrorist militia, including claims of suffering by relatives.

Kill Them All: France on French ISIS Fighters

The question of what to do with captured ISIS fighters has vexed many European countries who have nationals fighting for the terrorist group. With the fall of Raqqa, the de facto ISIS capital and reports of 400 ISIS fighters surrendering, that question has become more urgent.
France has a simple solution, as reported in The Times of Israel: Kill them.
“We are committed along with our allies to the destruction of Daesh (Islamic State) and we’re doing everything to that end,” French Defense Minister Florence Parly told reporters. “What we want is to go to the end of this combat and of course if jihadists die in the fighting, then I’d say it’s for the best.”
This fits with reports of previous French policy. When asked if the government of Emmanuel Macron would continue French policy of killing ISIS fighters with French citizenship, French government spokesman Christophe Castaner told reporters, “I say to all fighters who join the Islamic State group and then go abroad to wage war that waging war brings risks, and they must accept those risks.”
The Times of Israel also reported an understanding between the Iraqi army and the French to kill any French citizens fighting for ISIS that are caught: “We will prevent as much as possible any French person leaving Mosul alive,” said Abdelghani al-Assadi, a top commander in the Counter-Terrorism Service, quoted by Paris Match. “Our aim is to kill them so that no one from Daesh can flee.”

Guilty: Man Who Wanted to Behead Pamela Geller
Home > Political Islam > In the US > National Security > Guilty: Man Who Wanted to Behead Pamela Geller
BY CLARION PROJECT Thursday, October 19, 2017
Pamela Geller. (Photo: Creative Commons)
David Daoud Wright, 28, was found guilty for orchestrating a plot to behead controversial counter jihad campaigner Pamela Geller.
Wright was found guilty of conspiring to provide support to ISIS, acts of terrorism and obstructing justice in a Massachusetts court on Wednesday.
He recruited his uncle, Usaamah Rahim, 26, and Nicholas Rovinski, 26, to join him in the plot. Rahim was in contact with notorious ISIS recruiter Junaid Hussein (who has since been killed in a drone strike in Syria), who gave the group information about Pamela Geller for the plot.
Rahim was shot by police in Boston after he charged officers with a knife. Rovinski pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization last year and testified against Wright.
The plot was inspired by a fatwa (Islamic religious ruling) issued by the Islamic State calling for the head of Pamela Geller.
Geller has long been a prominent critic of jihad. Head of the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Ibrahim Hooper once called her “Queen of the Muslim Bashers.” In 2015, her American Freedom Defense Initiative organized a “Muhammed Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest,” to protest against blasphemy laws and attacks against journalists and cartoonists who have drawn the founder of Islam.
The event was attacked by two Islamic State gunmen. The terrorists were shot and killed at the scene.
“I was their prime target,” Geller told FoxNews.com. “Muslims have called for my death and published on Twitter what they think is my home address. Shortly after the Garland event, ISIS issued a formal fatwa calling for my death.”’
Geller has just published a new book, Fatwa: Hunted in America, about her experiences.

Saudis Order Review of Mohammed’s ‘Teachings’ to Combat Terror
Home > World > Saudi Arabia > Saudis Order Review of Mohammed’s ‘Teachings’ to Combat Terror
BY CLARION PROJECT Thursday, October 19, 2017
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman (Photo: GIANLUIGI GUERCIA/AFP/Getty Images)
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman issued a decree ordering the establishment of a body to review the interpretations of the teachings of the Islamic prophet Mohammed that are being used to justify violence and terrorism.
These teachings, known as the hadiths (reports or narratives) comprise accounts of the sayings, habits and actions of Mohammed written many years after his death. Different sects of Islam accept different collections of hadith. Some Muslims who call themselves Quranists, only accept the validity of the Quran and none of the hadiths.
Salman directed the Saudi Culture and Information Ministry to establish a body to investigate the hadiths that are being used by extremist organizations to justify their actions.
The ministry said the aim of the new authority would be to “eliminate fake and extremist texts and any texts that contradict the teachings of Islam and justify the committing of crimes, murders and terrorist acts.”
The body will include Islamic scholars from around the world and be headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hassan al-Sheikh, a member of the Saudi Arabia’s Council of Senior Scholars, the kingdom’s highest religious authority.
Earlier this year, during a visit by U.S. President Donald Trump, Salman inaugurated the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology “to expose, combat and refute extremist ideology,” according to the center’s Twitter account.
While Saudi Arabia has made moves against extremism, it is, at the same time, spending billions of dollars to spread its own extremist version of Islam, Wahhabism, throughout the world through the funding of mosques staffed with Saudi-approved imams. The kingdom has also made enormous donations to U.S. and Western universities to establish Middle Eastern study departments.
Wahhabism has inspired terror groups from ISIS to al-Qaeda and others. The September 11 attacks were carried out mainly by Saudis.

Media Politics an Asset for Islamists

BY RYAN MAURO Thursday, October 19, 2017
A press conference with US President Donald Trump

The media is missing a huge part of the controversy surrounding President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. While Manafort is reportedly expecting to be indicted for his ties to Russia, he has gotten barely any heat for lobbying on behalf of a Pakistani intelligence front linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.
Manafort was Trump’s campaign manager from June to August 2016. He resigned after several reports surfaced about his business dealings with Russia and Russian allies in Ukraine, which may have included money laundering.
Manafort has reportedly been told to expect to be indicted.
After he resigned, Manafort continued to be seen at Trump Tower. After the election, he advised Trump on choosing members of his administration.
TO date, almost all of the attention has been on Manafort’s ties to Russia because of its political impact. Few know that he lobbied—perhaps illegally—for a front for Pakistan’s terrorism-sponsoring ISI intelligence service and the Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas network in America.
Between 1990 and 1995, Manafort’s firm was paid $700,000 as the registered lobbyist for the Kashmiri-American Council. Its funding came from Pakistan intelligence as part of a political influence operation.
It was incorporated by a Pakistani spy, Ghulam Nabi Fai, who led the group until he was arrested in 2011.
The other incorporator was the wife of a senior official of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a group labeled as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas-financing trial. The Justice Department listed ISNA as an entity of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.
Fai’s partner in Pakistan, also an ISI intelligence operative, was so wrapped up in the jihadi world that he traveled to Afghanistan with a Pakistani nuclear scientist who had discussed nuclear weapons with Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda co-founder Ayman al-Zawahiri in August 2001.
A former senior Pakistani official with direct involvement in the political influence operation said, “There is no way Manafort didn’t know that Pakistani was involved with” the Kashmiri-American Council.
The official recalls flying to the U.S. from Islamabad to meet with the ISI spy, Ghulam Nabi Fai, at Manafort’s home. The purpose of the meeting was to “review strategy and plans” to influence Congress through the Kashmiri-American Council.
One of the objectives was to move U.S. attention “away from the involvement of Pakistan in sponsoring terrorism in Kashmir and elsewhere,” according to Gordon Kromberg, who prosecuted Fai, in 2012.
Campaign donations were a major part of Pakistani intelligence’s strategy, with at least $80,000-100,000 being allotted for it.
If Manafort did know that the Council was a front for the Pakistani government, then Manafort would have been required to register as a foreign agent of Pakistan.
When it first broke this little-noticed story, Yahoo! News pointed out that the Indian government accused the Kashmiri-American Council of being a Pakistani government front during the time in question.
India’s Foreign Ministry claims that Manafort and another member of his firm even went to Kashmir under the guide of being journalists as part of a “blatant operation” to produce anti-India propaganda.
Charlie Black, Manafort’s lobbyist at the firm, denied that they knew that the Kashmiri-American Council was linked to the Pakistani government. Black was an adviser to Ohio Governor John Kasich’s presidential campaign.
Manafort also had financial ties to the Pakistani government’s shady dealings beyond the Kashmiri-American Council.

As Yahoo pointed out:

In 2013 he acknowledged to French investigators that, in 1994, he had received $86,000 from two arms dealers involved in the sale of French attack submarines to Pakistan’s navy. The payments were part of an arrangement to compensate Manafort for political advice and polling he provided to French presidential candidate Édouard Balladur — one part of a wide-ranging French investigation into alleged kickbacks from arms sales dubbed by the French press “the Karachi affair.”
This story is especially relevant in light of Qatar’s hiring of conservative Republican political operatives as lobbyists, including several former senior aides to the Trump campaign.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also has strong ties to the Qatar regime, even serving on a board alongside Al-Jazeera officials.
Why is it that Manafort’s business ties to Russia get all the attention but his business with jihadists does not?
Once again, hyper-partisanship is blinding us to the whole scope of an important situation.
Most of the right-wing media doesn’t want to touch a story that reflects negatively upon President Trump’s inner circle and choices of who to surround himself with.
Most of the left-wing media doesn’t want to touch a story about Islamist political influence operations, as it would undermine their “Islamophobia” narrative. Further, they are absorbed in the Russia angle.
If the media put objectivity above its political narratives, Manafort’s case would show both sides the validity of concerns about Islamist and Russian influence operations. We don’t have to choose one and dismiss the other. Americans, and Westerners overall, should care about the full scale of both, which were aimed at all political parties.
The lack of attention paid to Manafort’s work for a Pakistani intelligence front linked to the Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas is a testament to how today’s political atmosphere is an asset for the Islamist cause.

What We Can Learn From Jefferson & the Barbary States
Home > Political Islam > In the US > National Security > What We Can Learn From Jefferson & the Barbary States
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Wednesday, October 18, 2017
Thomas Jefferson. (Photo: Public Domain)
Looking back at American history can give us lessons about what may or may not work in contemporary counter-extremism efforts. Some of the same mistakes being made today have been made before. Before making them again, we should learn from them.
Remember that time Thomas Jefferson attempted regime change in Tripoli to stop an Islamist state from terrorizing Americans? He then backed out halfway through and decided to pay off the Islamist pirates instead, leaving America’s local partners in the lurch after making these “partners on the ground” march 500 miles through the desert.
A little background: During the Revolutionary War, American shipping had been under the protection of the French navy. But following independence, the United States had to look after itself and that meant dealing with piracy.
So, in 1784, Jefferson, along with John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, were sent as emissaries to the Barbary States — Morocco, Tripoli, Algiers and Tunis — on the North African coasts. Their mission was to secure a deal that would prevent those states from capturing American ships and selling their crews into slavery (which was an ongoing problem).
In 1785, the American negotiators met with the Tripoli’s ambassador in London and asked him why they carried out these raids. Jefferson recorded the conversation saying:
“It was written in their Koran that all nations which had not acknowledged the prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to enslave; and that every mussulman [sic] who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise.”
Despite this chilling justification, the Americans continued to try and buy off the pirates, in keeping with the practice of other European states of the time. It should be noted that most historians agree that the primary motivation for Barbary state-backed piracy was an economic protection racket rather than faith.
Agreements were first concluded first with Morocco (in 1786), followed by Algiers (1795), Tripoli (1796) and Tunis (1797).
The Treaty of Tripoli took pains to make it clear that the United States did not have anything specifically against Islam. It reads:

Texan Parents Lied to FBI About Sons Fighting for ISIS
Home > Political Islam > In the US > National Security > Texan Parents Lied to FBI About Sons Fighting for ISIS
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Sunday, October 15, 2017

A couple from Plano, Texas, pleaded guilty of lying to the FBI to about their two sons who joined ISIS.
Arman, 27, and Omar Ali, 26, traveled to Egypt and then to Syria and became fighters for the Islamic State, according to federal court records.
Parents Mohommad Hasnain Ali, 57, and Sumaiya Ali, 49, reached a agreement with the prosecutor for a fine of $5,000 and being put on probation for making a false statement regarding international terrorism in June.
The agreement must be approved by a judge during an upcoming sentencing hearing.
When FBI agents interviewed Mohommad Hasnain Ali in May 2015, “he advised that his sons were peaceful, liked to study, and never indicated they would be affiliated with any terrorist group,” FBI records say.
But Mohommad was communicating with his sons in Syria via email. One message he received from Arnan in March 2015 read, “Things are heating up here, and I can’t guarantee me or Omar will be there in 2 months … I’ve been to the hospital every day with brothers from my group. Close friends have died, too many injured. Me and Omar are perfectly fine right now, but soon we may not be.”
Arman and Omar Ali have been charged separately with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Since they are believed to be in Syria, they have not stood trial.
In July 2015, the FBI said it was investigating terrorist cases in all 50 states. As of September that year, an estimated 250 Americans had traveled to Syria and Iraq to join terrorists groups.
In December 2015, the George Washington Program on Extremism released an in-depth report ISIS In America: From Retweets to Raqqa.
In another case, a Virginia man was sentenced to two years in prison for lying to FBI agents about his knowledge of ISIS supporters.
Michael Queen, 28, was sentenced for obstructing justice and making false statements involving international terrorism. Another defendant, Soufian Amri, is set to be sentenced in the next two weeks on similar charges.
According to court filings, in a taped conversation between Queen, Amri and another person, Queen said, “I’m never going to throw a Muslim underneath the bus to try to do the right thing.”
The conversation was reportedly concerning Haris Qamar who wanted to join ISIS in the Middle East but was unable to travel. Instead, he is accused of sending money to ISIS, scouting Washington-area landmarks and taking photos of them to be used in ISIS publications as suggestions for lone-wolf attacks.

A Ban on the Hijab Is Consistent With Liberalism
Home > World > European Union > A Ban on the Hijab Is Consistent With Liberalism
BY TERRI MURRAY Sunday, October 15, 2017
A young veiled girl in the UK
A young veiled girl in the UK (Photo: Reuters)
The following opinion piece was written in response to Elliot Friedland’s article: Five Things That Are Not Islamic Extremism. Both articles do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Clarion Project. Most importantly, Clarion Project welcomes the exchange of ideas on this as well as all other topics on our site. To submit an article, please click here.
For the purposes of this argument, I am going to begin from several starting premises. First, that the principles I defend apply to any form of religious “modesty dress” which is imposed on biologically-defined groups by community or family pressure.
This means we can set aside endless hairsplitting over whether the principles ought to apply to a hijab, burka or niqab. Second, the question whether or not Islam actually requires veiling or not is immaterial, since interpretations of what counts as “truly Islamic” are endless and cannot be resolved by any means other than consensus or fiat.
Female veiling is indisputably a Muslim cultural practice, irrespective of whether it is truly “Islamic.” I hope these caveats will be sufficient to prevent detractors from misdirecting the debate to tangential issues irrelevant to my arguments.
What are the limits to the power that can rightfully be exercised by society over individual women who wish to adhere to religious dress codes? How can their desire to conform to a religious dress code be balanced against the rights of other women who wish not to conform to religious community pressure?
Even fierce critics of a state ban on religious “modesty” dress admit without hesitation that there are plenty of Muslim women who (due to legal, quasi-legal, or illegal-but-hidden forms of familial and/or community pressure) wear the veil involuntarily.
Historically, liberals have protected both freedom of religion and freedom from it – i.e. the right of people to dress as they please. Freedom to dress however one pleases must include the freedom of people not to be told how to dress by religious authorities or others in their communities or families.
Liberalism does not require us to accept the double standard by which we bar our government from “telling people what to wear” while giving conservative religious authorities freewheeling power to do so. We know only too well from the testimonies of liberal Muslim and ex-Muslims who have been liberated from family and community pressures how difficult, indeed even dangerous, it can be to dissent from community-imposed customs.
In the first Chapter of On Liberty (1859), the architect of political liberalism, John Stuart Mill, was at pains to expand the protection of the individual beyond protection from the state to a full protection from oppression by “the will of the most numerous or most active part of the people; the majority, or those who succeed in making themselves accepted as the majority.”[1]
Mill argued that the abuse of power by a tyrannous majority is as dangerous as any other abuse of power. The tyranny of the majority, while it may at first operate through the mechanisms of state, can become an even more formidable social oppressor than the state because it is more insidious and “leaves fewer means of escape, penetrating much more deeply into the details of life.”[2]
For these reasons Mill urged that protection must extend beyond protection from the magistrate to protection also against:

Radical Islam in Bosnia: The Forgotten War

BY SAM BOCETTA Monday, October 16, 2017
A worker in a cemetery for Christians and Muslims in Bosnia

The Bosnian war of 1992-1995 seems to have been largely forgotten about nowadays, but it continues to have large consequences for U.S. foreign policy and the war on terror.
Many fighters were radicalized during the conflict and in recent years have turned up in many war zones in Europe and elsewhere. In addition, the war attracted many radical Islamists from outside Bosnia, who got their first real taste of armed conflict.
Thinking back to the way the Bosnian war was characterized in the 1990s, this may be surprising. The most common rubric used to understand the conflict, at least in the U.S., was that it was a resurgence of an “ancient ethnic conflict.”
This phrase was always a bit misleading – the war also had roots in economic strife and the broader conflicts that accompanied the end of the Cold War – but contained a grain of truth.
Calling the Bosnian War an “ethnic” conflict was also misleading in another way. In the U.S., we are used to thinking of “ethnicity” as a concept somewhat analogous to “race.”
In other contexts, however, this slippery term is used to mean radically different things. In sub-Saharan Africa, for instance, it normally designates the language that a person or group speaks. In Bosnia, and in the broader Balkan region, it is used to describe religion.
Once this is realized, the Bosnian War becomes easier to understand as one of the first modern instances of conflict involving radical Islam. Though the war was reported as a struggle between “Serbs,” “Croats” and “Bosniaks,” in reality it was between Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Muslims.
Radical Islam in the 1990s
A certain portion of the Bosnian people have been Muslim since the country was occupied by the Ottoman Empire in the 1500s. Until that point, the people of the remote region followed various forms of Christianity, some more mainstream than others, and some that were outright heretical

Muslim Brotherhood Deepens Its Ties on Capitol Hill
BY RAN MEIR Tuesday, October 17, 2017

“To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.”
Certain quarters on the Left, probably under a lot of $$$$ influence, are suggesting that I’m anti-Muslim. These organizations are not even Muslim themselves, so how dare they question my faith, my relations with fellow Muslims who are my family and friends and my right to critique those Muslims who are tarnishing my faith.
There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. Do they suggest I am “anti” all of them? That would take a lot of “anti” — and BTW, being anti-anything is not my beat. I leave this to anti- fa and regressive left types!
Although these organizations pride themselves on their literary and speculative work, they would be wise to look up the definitions of “anti” and “critique.”
“Anti” means to be opposed to a particular policy activity or idea. “Critique” is a detailed analysis and assessment of something literary, philosophical or political theory.
Am I anti-Muslim if I call for separation of mosque and state?
Am I anti-Muslim if I call for a halt to honor-based violence against women, which includes female genital mutilation (rampant in the West), forced and underage marriages and honor killings?

In an August 22 speech, President Trump denounced the flow of U.S. money to Pakistan while that nation harbors terrorists. South Asian Islamism is an enormous problem, and yet a great deal of the discussion in America surrounding Islamism focuses on the Egyptian-founded Muslim Brotherhood.
But the Muslim Brotherhood is far from the only Islamist network in the United States; it is simply the best known. Other Islamist movements also benefit from government ignorance about the diversity of Islam and Islamism across the globe.
The South Asian Islamist movement Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), for instance, has received millions from the U.S. taxpayer for its powerful network of charities and welfare services, which are designed to obtain external funding as well as legitimize Jamaat-e-Islami as a representative voice of Muslims, in both America and South Asia.
Although Jamaat-e-Islami has its own ideologues, literature and infrastructure, it is often described as the South Asian “cousin” of the Muslim Brotherhood. Qazi Ahmad Hussain, head of Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan, has declared: “We consider ourselves as an integral part of the Brotherhood and the Islamic movement in Egypt….Our nation is one.”
Jamaat-e-Islami’s history is bloody. During the 1971 Liberation War in Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami fighters helped Pakistani forces massacre hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis seeking independence from Pakistan.

At a recent meeting of the Strategic Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran titled “Analyzing Trump’s behavior,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, addressed recent developments regarding the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA).
“If the Americans think that they will ultimately be negotiating such issues with Iran, they have chosen a completely wrong path. Iran intends to solve these issues off the negotiating table. There is absolutely no room for negotiation,” he threatened.
Jafari also stated that if the United States is bent on implementing new sanctions against the Guard Corps, they had better move their regional bases at least a 2,000 kilometer radius away from Iran (i.e., outside missile range).

Speckhard and Yayla explain:
Ibn Mesud was a child soldier in ISIS, serving in the Cubs of the Caliphate. In this video clip he speaks about the hypocrisy inside ISIS — of guards and ISIS cadres having one set of rules for themselves and another harsh one for the civilians they rule. His story includes post-traumatic grief and emotional suffering as a result of taking part in beheadings and other crimes against humanity.

She is an executive board member of the Iranian Kurdish PJAK (Partiya Jiyana Azad a Kurdistane — Kurdistan Free Life Party and has played a key role in the party’s organization and diplomacy since its founding.
PJAK is a left-wing, Kurdish organization based in Iranian Kurdistan. Its thousands of fighters wage intermittent armed conflict against the Iranian regime for rights for Iran’s five million Kurds.
PJAK is considered an offshoot of the PKK (Kurdistan Worker’s Party), an organization that has engaged in armed struggle against Turkey for minority rights.
In 2009, PJAK was designated as a terrorist organization by the United States — the only country alongside Iran and Turkey to designate it as such — and shares the designation with the PKK.

There’s growing pressure on the British government to ban Muslim brotherhood activities in the UK.
Calls from a bipartisan group of MPs and a parliamentary committee urging engagement with the Muslim Brotherhood were also rejected by UK governmental officials.
Citing the group’s “high ambiguous relationship with violence extremism,” officials said that since the time of former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi (from the Brotherhood party) and up until the present, the Brotherhood had not done enough to demonstrate political moderation or a commitment to democratic values.
A previous report by former UK prime minister David Cameron’s government rejected the myth that the Brotherhood is “moderate” and the false notion that it is “non-violent.”
In a document released late last week, the government responded to calls to begin “discreet relations” with exiled members from Morsi’s government, which was ousted in a popularly-supported military coup in 2013 after just one year in power.
The report cited not only the Brotherhood’s use of violence, but noted that since the Brotherhood’s party lost power in Egypt, the Islamist organization fueled sectarianism with its comments about Pope Francis and denied the involvement of ISIS in terror attacks on the country’s Coptic Christians (despite claims by ISIS that it was indeed behind the attacks).
Further, the report noted, the Brotherhood accused Egypt’s current government of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of “organizing or facilitating the attacks” against the Christians.

Washington’s Biggest Strategic Blunder

Kurds in Iraq rally for independence (Photo: SAFIN HAMED/AFP/Getty Images)
The U.S. is still poking the eyes of the Kurds in Iraq for their referendum on independence, with the State Department declaring that the Kurds’ vote is “illegitimate” and that America opposes an independent state for the Kurds.
“The vote and the results lack legitimacy and we continue to support a united, federal, democratic and prosperous Iraq,” said U.S. Secretary of State Tillerson.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders defended the Trump Administration’s position using the absurd defense that a unified Iraq can “push back on Iran.”
Question: How has that worked since out since 2003?
The U.S. already took a position closer to that of Iran, Turkey, Qatar and various Islamists by expressing its staunch opposition to the Kurdish referendum, which was merely an expression of the desire for independence and not even a formal declaration of statehood.
Then, as the pro-American Kurds celebrated in the streets and enjoyed casting ballots in a region where many cannot, the U.S. State Department rubbed salt in the wound by expressing its “great disappointment” when it could have said nothing or moved on. Iran’s propaganda outlets were happy to broadcast the U.S.’ comments.

The British audience for ISIS content online is the largest in Europe.
The British audience for ISIS content online is the largest in Europe.
The UK is poised to announce October 10 a new law that could put viewers of terrorist content on the internet behind bars for up to 15 years.
Home Secretary Amber Rudd will explain the jail term will apply to those who repeatedly view such content as well as to those who publish information about members of the armed forces, police and intelligence services for the purpose of planning acts of terrorism.
The British audience for ISIS content online is the largest in Europe. According to the Home Office, since September 1, ISIS supporters published 67,000 tweets in English promoting their cause. Between January and August this year, more than 44,000 links to ISIS material were created and shared.
Rudd also recently announced a new national police hub dedicated to cracking down on internet trolls posting hate crimes online.
“We recognize and will uphold the right to free speech even where it causes offence – but this does not extend to inciting hatred or threatening people,” said National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for hate crime, Assistant-Chief Constable Mark Hamilton.
He added that the hub, which is projected to be operational by the end of the year, would “reduce the burden on frontline officers and help bring more offenders to justice.”

The governments of Iran and Turkey recently reached an accord on Idlib, a Syrian town now the focus of American interests, which brings relations between two of the largest and most influential states in the Middle East momentarily out of the shadows.
Their rivalry goes back a half-millennium, included 11 wars, and now remains, in the words of the Washington Institute’s Soner Cagaptay, the region’s “oldest power game.” What does the recent accord signify and how will their competition influence the region’s future?
Iranian and Turkish parallels are noteworthy. Both countries have populations of 80 million. (Egypt, the region’s third large country, has 96 million.) Both boast ancient civilizations, long imperial histories, tensions with Russia, and a successful avoidance of European colonialism. In modern times, each came under the rule of a ruthless modernizer after World War I, followed more recently by an even more repressive Islamist.

How the US Gov’t Funds Terror
https://clarionproject.org/us-govt-funds-terror/
Home > Terrorism > How the US Gov’t Funds Terror
BY GUEST CONTRIBUTOR Monday, October 9, 2017
By Gregg Roman

With the entire nation seemingly engaged in a heated dialogue about neo-Nazis and white supremacists, now seems like a good time to begin discussing how best to combat extremism. I have previously written about the need to engage with minority communities, work with moderates of all stripes and begin the process or marginalizing extremists. This work is critical to building a constructive future for our nation.

But what if I told you there was a charity that receives federal funding and uses it to support extremist ideology and to indirectly bankroll terrorism? Seems pretty far-fetched, right? Well, buckle up.

Established in England in 1984, an organization called Islamic Relief is the largest Islamic charity in the Western world, comprising dozens of branches around the globe. Its officials have dined at the White House, received awards from the British monarchy and enjoyed millions of dollars of funding from Western governments, including from the United States.

The organization does a great deal of laudable work. They help provide access to clean water for people who need it badly. They provide food to the hungry, respond to natural disasters and teach people to read. They also happen to promote an ideology that encourages hatred and violence.

In 2015, the United Arab Emirates, a key ally of the United States, designated Islamic Relief as a terrorist organization because of its links to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. This ban followed similar accusations leveled against the charity in Israel and Egypt. In 2016, it emerged that the international bank HSBC had closed down Islamic Relief’s accounts over terror financing fears.

Then, in January 2017, following a statement by a German minister in the Berlin Senate that Islamic Relief was closely connected with the German branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, Germany’s Federal Court of Auditors announced an investigation into Islamic Relief for a “potential misuse of the aid money.”

And in April, The Times reported that Britain’s Charity Commission – the government’s regulator of non-profits – was investigating the charity’s decision to organize a tour with Yasir Qadhi, an extremist American preacher previously recorded telling his audience that killing homosexuals was part of his religion.

Through all this, the U.S. branch of Islamic Relief (IR-USA) remained relatively unscathed. But recently uncovered evidence of extreme, violent anti-Semitism expressed by senior officials of IR-USA threaten to make the growing scandal a pan-Atlantic affair. IR-USA’s current chairman is Khaled Lamada, a prominent Egyptian-American and a public supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Lamada’s Facebook page includes a number of alarmingly anti-Jewish posts. He has re-published text praising the “jihad” of the “Mujahidin of Egypt” for “causing the Jews many defeats” and shared posts that praise Hamas for inflicting a “huge defeat” against the “Zionist entity.” In addition, Lamada has circulated videos that claim the current leader of Egypt, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, is secretly Jewish and that he opposes the Muslim Brotherhood on the orders of the Jews. Lamada simply comments “I hope that this is not true.”

In response to these revelations, IR-USA said it “strongly rejects these unfounded accusations.” It added that “the personal attacks on Mr. Lamada result from inaccurate translations of Arabic,” although Islamic Relief failed to provide its own translations, and Lamada has since deleted the posts and restricted public access to his Facebook account.

Lamada is far from IR-USA’s only problem. In January, the Middle East Forum revealed that IR-USA is a key partner of a Hamas-linked charity in Gaza named the Unlimited Friends Association, which, using money raised in America, gives money to the families of deceased Hamas terrorists. Then, in July, we found that another senior official of IR-USA, Yousef Abdallah, had published a story praising “martyrs” who provided guns to “kill more than 20 jews” and “fire rockets at Tel Aviv.” Elsewhere, Abdallah published text that referred to Jews as “stinking.”

IR-USA is the largest Muslim charity in America. In 2015, it reported total revenue of over $108 million. Between 2015 and 2016, IR-USA received $370,000 of taxpayers’ money, and it has enjoyed hundreds of thousands of dollars from prominent corporate and community foundations across the country.

As the accusations about Islamic Relief’s links to Islamist extremism and terror continue to mount around the world, Western governments, charitable foundations and faith leaders are finding it increasingly hard to support the organization.

As we embark on a serious national conversation about how to push radicals, hatemongers and extremists back into the shadows on the margins of our society, we must not just focus on neo-Nazis and white supremacists. Hatred is hatred and terrorism is terrorism. While we need to understand the motivation behind intolerance, protests and attacks, we must not let one form of hatred blind us to the very real threats presented by other forms.

Islamism is not a religion. It’s a political belief that the entire world must be subjected to a particular interpretation of a particular religion. That’s just as radical a departure from the promise of America as the disgusting ideology espoused by Richard Spencer and Chris Cantwell. And we’d do well to combat them both.

Amid a limited degree of pomp, it was announced this weekend the final battle to defeat ISIS in Syria would begin on October 9. That’s great news after some five years of uncontrolled tyranny. The end of sex slavery, child soldiers and the cruelest of executions will be welcomed by all moral human beings.

However, the next issues – already under consideration by intelligence services for some time – are what happens to the hundreds of ISIS fighters who successfully flee justice and, of course, that burning question: Does the ideology die with Islamic State?

Let’s go with the easy one first: The ideology is very much alive, and while it was successfully fueled by ISIS’ brilliant propaganda machine, it is not dependent on the fate of Islamic State. For starters, many of the so-called non-violent Islamist organizations around the globe are a breeding-ground network for terrorists. Numerous researchers are convinced most terrorists were members of non-violent groups before carrying out their attacks or planned attacks. It’s a message our own Raheel Raza recently took to Congress. We need to crack down on the non-violent extremists now.

WRITE TO CONGRESS ABOUT NON-VIOLENT EXTREMISTS HERE.
Political Islam is where the messages are created; the resultant destructive actions are carried out by those willing to go just one step further.

Why Is Raheel Raza Screaming?

Canadian megaphone
Having recently addressed the U.S. Congress, Clarion spokeswoman and board member Raheel Raza this week took on Canada’s parliament. Speaking to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage, she urged an end to hate and the promotion of Muslim reformers.
Here are her remarks in full:
My family and I will have been in Canada for 30 years next year. Like most immigrants we came here to embrace democracy, gender equality and freedom of speech.
I can say with conviction that Canada is the best country in the world with a role to play in terms of leadership and I thank God for being a Canadian citizen to share in its values.
Today we are here to discuss Motion 103.
Let me make it abundantly clear that bigotry, hate and racism have to be condemned in the strongest terms. Sadly they have always been an integral part of human civilization. But human dignity depends upon our unequivocal condemnation of these ugly values and we MUST speak out against them.
Having said this, we are entrapped by use of the term Islamophobia which is not clearly defined. As I read the text of Motion 103, I can agree with the overall intent but without use of this term, because Islamophobia can and has been used to confuse the masses and stifle free speech.
I’ve just returned from attending the 36th session of UNHRC in Geneva and have seen how the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has for years been working towards stemming any critique of religion. Critique of religion BTW is not critique of people. If there are aspects of any faith that are veering towards human rights infractions, they must be discussed and debated. Religion is an idea and ideas don’t have rights – people do.
Canada should therefore be concerned about the rights of all its peoples and not allow itself to fall into the traps laid out by vested agendas.

Is Egypt’s Al Azhar University a Global Security Threat?
Home > World > Egypt > Is Egypt’s Al Azhar University a Global Security Threat?
BY GUEST CONTRIBUTOR Monday, October 9, 2017
Al Azhar University
Al Azhar University (Photo: Wikimedia Commons/Buyoof)
by Cynthia Farahat
Al Azhar University, the world’s largest Sunni Islamic educational institution, is where many of the world’s most brutal terrorists received their formal religious training. This is to be expected, given the nature of the material taught there.
Al Azhar has thousands of affiliated mosques, schools, learning centers and universities around the world, such as the Islamic American University in Michigan. The institution has also been unofficially controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood for decades.
According to the most recent data released by the Egyptian government, there were 297,000 students studying at Al Azhar University in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, there were 39,000 foreign students studying at Al Azhar. These students are taught the theological legitimacy of cannibalizing infidels, gruesome ways to torture non-Muslims to death, and the importance of raping and humiliating non-Muslim women.
This explains why numerous Egyptian public figures and intellectuals have called for a terrorism investigation of Al Azhar University. For example, Egyptian historian Sayyid Al-Qemany called upon the Egyptian government to designate Al Azhar University as terrorist organization.
In 2015, El-Youm el-Sabi, an Egyptian newspaper, published an investigative report about the curriculum at the university. According to the report, one of the books, called al-Iqn’a fi Hal Alfaz ibn Abi Shoga’a (Convincing Arguments According to Abi Shoga’a), taught to al-Azhar’s high school students states, “Any Muslim can kill an apostate and eat him, as well kill infidel warriors even if they are young or female and they can also be eaten, because they are not granted any protection.”
On the treatment of non-Muslims, the report quotes the same book as saying, “To preserve one’s self from the evil of an infidel, any Muslim can gouge their eyes out, or mutilate their hands and legs, or sever one arm and one leg.”
Even Muslims aren’t safe from Al Azhar’s teachings. According to the same the report, another book states, “Any Muslim is allowed to kill a fornicator, a warrior, or a [Muslim] who misses prayer, even without permission of the [ruling] imam.”
This is expected, given the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood dominates the organization. Not only does the Muslim Brotherhood use the university to recruit hundreds of thousands of students to adopt ISIS-style beliefs, the Brotherhood has used the organization to train young people for combat.

Your Woman’s Expiration Date Passed? Get a New One

BY CLARION PROJECT Thursday, October 5, 2017
Women passed their expiry date
A famous Saudi preacher caused a social-media storm when he declared a woman has an expiration date.
Medina Imam Majed el-Fahd urged young men to change wives once their “expiration date passes.” He tweeted his opinion:
Arabic tweet on the "expiration date" of women
The tweet says “#MarryASecondOneIfYouCan Praise the Lord I’m fulfilling my religion with four for the last 20 years and I’m thinking about upgrading, inshallah. A woman’s has an expiration date as opposed to a man.” [Ed.Note: Of course, he wrote that in 140 characters!]
El-Fahd, a lecturer at the city’s Islamic University, has had four wives for 20 years but feels he needs to add a wife.
For the record, el-Fahd does not believe men carry such a date.
Many Arabic reactions to his suggestion were critical, describing his idea and offensive to women. One went as far as to say:
“No, It’s your date that’s expired. Can you bear what a woman carries: tiredness, pain, staying up all night caring for her family?”

The Muslim Brotherhood has at least $100 billion at its disposal for work outside of its Egyptian base, according to Islamist Groups expert Sameh Eid.

The cash is designated for dawa – the spreading of Islamic ideology both among Muslims and non-Muslims, Eid told the An Hour From Egypt TV show on August 25.
Eid claims the Brotherhood is diverting donor money that is pledged for use in places like Afghanistan and Bosnia Herzegovina. These donations end up in the coffers of the Muslim Brotherhood instead.
Individual members give the organization eight percent of their salaries.
The Brotherhood uses its $100b. in projects in some 80 countries.
The Muslim Brotherhood (Al-Ihkwan al-Muslimun) is a Sunni, pan-Islamic organization based in Cairo, Egypt whose ultimate aim is the re-establishment of the global Islamic caliphate and the implementation of sharia as state law. Founded in Egypt in 1928 it is the oldest Islamist group in the world and along with Jamaat e-Islami in Pakistan and India, the most influential.

What does it mean “to volunteer?” Volunteering is acting on one’s own free will while expecting nothing in return. It often comes from the selfless desire to help.
Zainab (not her real name) was beaten by her husband almost daily. But in traditional, Islamist Egyptian society it’s not so simple for a woman to file a complaint.
Enter the Women’s Center for Guidance and Legal Awareness and its head, Clarion Project friend Reda Eldanbouki. Having seen just how difficult it is for people to come forward, particularly in poorer areas, Reda decided it was high time for someone to do something to make their lives that little bit easier.
Just a week ago, Reda and his team took to the roads with 10 vehicles in what he’s dubbed the Mobile Legal Clinic. The idea is to help those most in need – free of charge.
How does it work?
Anyone can call the clinic helpline and someone from the team will visit the caller at their home.

On November 16, 2017, the world’s first management conference on the subject of Islamic Radicalism in the Workplace will take place in Paris. Clarion Project spoke to event organizer Dr. Leslie Shaw, president of the Forum on Islamic Radicalism and Management and an associate professor at ESCP Europe Business School.
Clarion Project: This conference was originally scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. in July 2016 but you cancelled it. At the time, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a press release stating they “welcomed the postponement of an Islamophobic conference targeting constitutionally-protected religious accommodations in the workplace.” Why was the original conference cancelled?
Dr. Leslie Shaw: We cancelled the event for two reasons. First, it coincided with the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, which meant that attendance would have been less than anticipated. Second, two of our key speakers were overseas.
The cancellation actually turned out to be a good thing, because since then, we have set up a dedicated team to organize it, and we have conducted an in-depth survey targeting employers in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia.
The results of that survey demonstrate beyond question that Islamic radicalism is a major concern in the workplace.
Clarion: CAIR described your conference as Islamophobic. Can you comment on that?
Shaw: CAIR’s opinion is driven by sectarian self-interest and promotion of a particular agenda.
Clarion: But your survey and conference focus only on Islamic and not other forms of radicalism

On Monday, September 18, 2017, large number of the Ahwazi Arab children in different areas of Al-Ahwaz region launched a campaign calling for the right to have school education taught in their native language of Arabic. This campaign comes in conjunction with the start of a new school year in Iran. Arab students are systematically deprived of their right to have their education taught in their native language. All classes are taught in Persian only, which serves to disenfranchise Ahwazi Arab students who grow up speaking primarily Arabic.
Social media platforms have been flooded with pictures and videos promoting the hashtag #WeWantMotherTongueInClassrooms, and it’s now gone viral. Campaigners have called on Iranian authorities to allow students the right of receiving their curricula in Arabic as well as in the Persian, the official language of Iran.

In a dramatic announcement on Friday, police named three men who were allegedly plotting attacks in New York that would be “the next 9/11.”
One of the men confessed and has been in custody in the U.S. since May 21, 2016. Another suspect was arrested in Pakistan while the third was arrested in the Philippines.
All three men were charged with seven terrorism-related counts and face life in prison.
Although the plot was known to investigators months ago, it was only revealed to the public now due to an ongoing investigation into the suspects’ other terror connections.
“The most challenging and difficult decisions that are made in these investigations is finding where the balance is –- between protecting the integrity of the investigation and letting the public know the vital information they need to determine whether or not they feel safe going to a particular venue,” said former FBI Supervisor JJ Klaver.

The number of ISIS supporters in the United States who have been arrested for planning to commit acts of domestic terrorism is relatively low. However, we must take this very seriously because of the magnitude of potential damage and because terrorists who are radicalized online are difficult for authorities to track.
According to the George Washington Program on Extremism’s report, ISIS in America, as of July 2017, “The number of individuals charged in the United States on offenses related to the Islamic State stands at 131.” At first glance, this does not seem like a very large number.
Let’s look at the statistics more closely. Of those 131 people, “30% were accused of plotting domestic terror attacks.”
There are 39 people who were arrested for actively planning terror attacks within the borders of the United States.

Five Things That Are Not Islamic Extremism

What is legitimate public expression of religion and where does it cross into extremism? Counter-extremism activist Maajid Nawaz isolates the key factor as control, saying:

“Islamism is the ideology of seeking to impose any version of Islam over society. Jihadism is the use of force to spread Islamism.”

This definition clearly delineates the problem as political rather than religious.

But sometimes people confuse legitimate religious/cultural expression with attempts to impose Islam. This is partially because some religious practices are, while valid and non-coercive, very public and can be intimidating to those unfamiliar with them.

Here are five examples of where Islam in the public sphere is perfectly acceptable.

1.Building Mosques

All faiths have the constitutional right to freedom of worship in America. But some are suspicious of Muslims who want to exercise those rights by building a mosque.

For example, a council meeting to move forward construction of a mosque in Georgia was cancelled in September 2016. An armed militia group had threatened to show up at the meeting and the council was worried about trouble. The militia made a threatening video. On the day of the meeting, two dozen protesters wearing t-shirts saying things like “Allah is not God,” and “Islam is of the devil” showed up at the courthouse to voice their opposition to the mosque. They did so while openly carrying weapons.

This is just one example of a proposed mosque that faced stiff opposition from residents concerned about Islamism.

“Existing and proposed mosque sites across the country have been targeted for vandalism and other criminal acts,” the American Civil Liberties Union recorded, “and there have been efforts to block or deny necessary zoning permits for the construction and expansion of other facilities.”

In 2012, PEW assessed 53 proposed mosques which had encountered opposition from local residents. Many of the objections were to possible noise, parking problems and other prosaic concerns that frequently greet any proposed new construction. However, some were opposed due to fears about Islamism.

While it is important to be aware of potential extremist preachers and activities (by researching the people and organizations behind the proposed mosque), most mosques are simply spaces for prayer and community events. The U.S. constitution guarantees the right to worship freely. The building a mosque alone should not be looked upon as an attempt to impose Islam on anyone.

2.Wearing a Hijab

Although some Muslim majority countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran impose dress codes, for most (although by no means all) Muslim women living in the West, covering their hair with a hijab (hijab) or longer garment is a choice. Since it doesn’t hurt anyone (John Stuart Mill’s harm principle remains one of the founding axioms of liberalism), there is no reason to try and remove a person’s right to wear one.

Yet sometimes people do target the hijab.

In 2016, a Georgia lawmaker proposed an amendment to the state’s anti-masking law to ban women from wearing burqas or veils while driving. The proposed law was pulled after a massive public outcry. In June 2017, the mayor of the French town of Lorette banned hijabs along with burkinis, an modest swimming suit worn by some Muslim women, in the town’s public pool.

Sometimes things get violent. A 14-year old girl in Georgia reportedly had her hijab ripped off in the street by a man yelling “terrorist.” The incident took place in a April 2017. A different attack in Milwaukee, also in April 2017, saw a man demand a woman remove her headscarf, then beat her when she refused.

There may be logical security reasons to ban full face veils in public, certainly at passport control or in court. But to ban headcoverings completely is an infringement of civil liberties and does nothing to curtail extremism.

3.Legal Aid for Terror Suspects

It is important that police and FBI are able to do their jobs and for law enforcement can get the information they need.

Yet, at the same time, the American legal system is extremely complex. Talking to the police without a lawyer present is regarded as risky by legal experts, even if the person is innocent. Professor James Duane of Regent University explains how a people can accidentally incriminate themselves and provide information that can lead to them being prosecuted for a serious crime that they did not commit.

Just like any other citizens, Muslims need access to lawyers and legal advice.

Lawyers, however, are extremely expensive. The state provides a certain amount of lawyers to those without the means to fund an attorney. Yet these public defenders are notoriously overworked and underpaid and do not have the time to devote proper attention to each case.

It is therefore vital that citizens have access to community organizations that can provide them with subsidized access to legal representation. For an organization to provide that representation to Muslims is not evidence of extremism or support for terrorism. Rather, it ensures that Muslim Americans have the same 5th and 6th amendment rights as other citizens.

In the aftermath of the Orlando shooting, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) provided free legal aid to all members of gunman Omar Mateen’s community. Clarion has longstanding objections to CAIR, which was designated as a terrorist group by the United Arab Emirates. See our full factsheet on CAIR here. However, they provided a service in that instance that was necessary, even if it would have been better for someone else to have stepped in and provided it.

4.Requesting Halal Food and Prayer Breaks

Not all religions require the same practices. Devout Muslims feel obliged to pray five times a day and eat meat slaughtered in a specific way.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act stipulates reasonable requests for accommodation of religious requests must be granted, as long as it does not cause undue hardship. Because of the relative vagueness of the law, workplaces have responded to Islamic religious requirements in different ways.
Some, especially Fortune 500 companies seeking to retain top talent, have gone out of their way to be accommodating. Public schools in New York City may soon be legally obliged to provide kosher and halal food to any student who requests them, if a bill was proposed by State Assemblyman David Weprin (D-Queens) in April 2017 passes.
Others have not been so accommodating. An operations manager at a United Parcel Service (UPS) warehouse in Minnesota fired two Muslims workers for taking prayer breaks in 2014. In June 2017 the former employees filed a lawsuit against UPS.
The Star Tribune reports:
“Abdullahi Dahir and Abdifatah Hassan said they had been allowed to pray as needed while at work until UPS hired a new operations manager. That manager refused to let Muslim employees pray outside of regular break times and also warned them against using trips to the bathroom to fulfill their need to pray five times a day, the suit contends. Those who didn’t comply were fired, the suit alleges.”
Sometimes it just isn’t possible to resolve disputes over religious practice in the workplace. In 2016 a judge ruled that a company which terminated 80 Somali meatpacking workers who staged a demonstration over a prayer times dispute did not contravene anti-discrimination law. The dispute had dragged out over some time involving strikes by different groups of workers, including those who were upset that the Somalis were perceived as being given special privileges.
Even where it is not possible for religious practices and the needs of a workplace to find an equitable compromise, it is still not extremist to request to be allowed to carry out religious ritual.
5.Being Inspired by Faith to Make the World Better
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan described “being good to your neighbor, treating others with respect, look after the elderly, get involved in your community, if you’ve got wealth share it, look after the environment” as being “intrinsic to being a Muslim,” in an interview with Christian Today about his faith.
Many Muslims in public life feel similarly influenced by their faith to improve the world.
Imam Abdullah Antepli, head of Muslim Affairs at Duke University, delivered the opening prayer for the U.S. House of Representatives on October 4, 2017. He prayed that God should “empower us and these legislators to further improve the culture of inclusion and welcome to all in our nation and beyond.”
Antepli’s prayer is a clear example of a public Muslim using his faith to support a vision for a better America.
It is inevitable that a person’s faith will influence their worldview to a certain extent. In the best cases, religion drives people to succeed and to create positive change. Muslims who feel that their faith inspires them in this way are not radicals imposing Islam on others, they are simply participating in a pluralistic democracy as fully fledged citizens.

Claiming Las Vegas Is an ISIS Win Whoever Did It
https://clarionproject.org/isis-behind-las-vegas/
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Tuesday, October 3, 2017
Screenshot from the video published last May in which ISIS warned Las Vegas
Islamic State claimed responsibility claimed responsibility for the worst mass shooting in American history, the atrocity in Las Vegas. They described gunman Stephen Paddock as a “soldier of the Islamic State” who had “converted to Islam several months ago.”
Yet just because the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) claimed it as a terrorist attack, that does not mean they carried it out. Police have not yet released further information about the gunman and his motives. Clear evidence has not yet emerged linking the gunman to ISIS. The FBI claims the massacre has no connection to terrorism.
So did they do it? To a certain extent it doesn’t actually matter.
Amaq news agency, the semi-official Islamic State news agency, does not normally outright lie about terror incidents, notes Graeme Wood, an Islamic State expert, writing in The Atlantic. However it would not be the first time it has done so, Wood points out.
Even if ISIS did not carry out the attack, claiming credit for it would further sow seeds of panic, one of the main goals of the terror group. Increased misinformation and suspicion serves the agenda of creating terror and chaos by undermining public trust in institutions and fellow citizens. Simply threatening or claiming credit for attacks still creates the raw fear that is the real goal of terrorism.
Further, the strategy of jihadi terrorists is to isolate Muslim communities in the West by increasing hatred against them, forcing them to choose between abandoning Islam entirely or joining the extremists. Jihadi propaganda calls this “eliminating the gray zone” and creating mistrust between Muslims and non-Muslims is a key part of this strategy. If Muslims are angry at increased surveillance of their communities while non-Muslims are angry at perceived Muslim failure to confront terror, jihadi groups profit from the disharmony.
We still do not know the motive of the Las Vegas shooter. In claiming the attack for itself, the Islamic State is spreading terror regardless of who actually carried it out.

The Islamic State (ISIS) is “quadrupling down” on its claim of responsibility for the Las Vegas massacre by Stephen Paddock, claiming he converted to Islam months ago. There is no evidence to substantiate their claim at this point and, if ISIS is lying, then at least something good can come from this horrible atrocity by using the lie to blast away at ISIS’ credibility.
Rukmini Callimachi, a New York Times correspondent covering ISIS, tracked how ISIS reiterated its claims of responsibility with at least two comments on its Amaq News Agency propaganda outlet. It started referring to him as “Abu Abd El Bar.”
As skepticism of a jihadist motivation grew, ISIS also claimed credit on its Nashir channel on the encrypted Telegram messaging app. It then released a video based on the Vegas massacre on its Al-Battar Media. Callimachi said that ISIS only follows this pattern for its biggest attacks.
If Stephen Paddock is not a recent ISIS-inspired convert—and there isn’t a shred of evidence that he is except for the fact that he shared their desire for massive civilian casualties—then the U.S. has an opportunity.
ISIS thrives off of its followers’ illusions about the success of its caliphate, the evil of its enemies and the Sharia Disney Land its members supposedly enjoy. Accurate reports about disappointed defectors, abuse and failure are dismissed as lies from the Satanic Jews and infidels. It comes down to trust.
Dispelling these illusions requires irrefutable moments that prove ISIS’ defeats, failures and lies to the world and especially its own followers. This is one such rare moment.

Why Not Every Mass Murder Is Terrorism

In the aftermath of the Las Vegas attack in which least 58 people were killed and 515 injured, memes are circulating online suggesting that only brown or Muslim mass murderers are considered terrorists, while white people are considered mentally ill. While this may be how some media outlets present the facts, it it utterly false. Terrorism is carried out in the service of an ideology, not a label used depending on the ethnicity of the murderer.
Counter-extremism activist Maajid Nawaz made the following statement about terrorism Facebook:
“Terrorism is about motive and method to achieve that motive. It’s legally, and politically distinct from mass murder, genocide and other heinous crimes just like pedophilia is distinct from rape. We in the U.K. called the IRA terrorists. Just as we call ISIS terrorists now. It’s not about race or hating one religion more than another.
“Terrorism is a distinct category because it’s about trying to terrorize a population to alter their ideological or political course. It is deliberately and rightly distinguished from mass murder even if the latter also (obviously) scares people. I bet you’ve never argued for redefining “genocide” to call it terrorism instead just because both also “terrorize” people. Nor have you probably advocated redefining torture as terrorism, though it obviously terrorizes the victim.”

Five suspects were being held in France in connection with an “operational” improvised explosive device found in an upscale neighborhood in an apartment on the outskirts of Paris.

French sources say the main suspect is connected to radical Islamists and is known to intelligence authorities.

According to reports, the device consisted of two cylinders of gas soaked in petrol. The bomb was linked to a cell phone, which was assumed to be “a device to ignite” the improvised explosive. Two more cylinders were also found outside the building.

Although there was no one living in the apartment block where the device was placed, the building is close to the Parc des Princes, where the Paris football team PSG play their home games.

Commenting on the incident, France’s Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the purpose might have been simply to sow fear in the population. “Blowing up a building in a chic neighborhood shows that no one is safe…it shows that it could happen anywhere in France,” he added.

On October 1, two people were killed in a stabbing attack in Marseilles by an assailant reportedly shouting “Allahu akbar [God is greatest]!”

Video: Iranian Security Forces Torture Ahwazi Prisoners
Home > World > Iran > Video: Iranian Security Forces Torture Ahwazi Prisoners
BY CLARION PROJECT Tuesday, October 3, 2017
Human rights activists in Iran published a video on social media showing how Iranian security forces torture Ahwazi Arab prisoners, beating them and forcing them to bark and howl like dogs. The video shows a member of the Iranian security forces, who was reportedly versed in martial arts, punching the prisoners in their kidneys and cursing them.
The activists say the treatment violates international law and demanded those responsible be punished. Ahwazi Arabs are a frequently persecuted minority group in Iran. Random rounding up of Ahwazis by Iranian authorities often takes place during Iranian holidays when Ahwazi Arabs are known to gather together to demand their rights as equal citizens.
