Cleveland Father Pleads Guilty to Killing Daughter

BY CLARION PROJECT Sunday, October 22, 2017
Jamal Mansour, who honor killed his daughter, during his sentencing (Photo: video screenshot)
Jamal Mansour pleaded guilty to shooting his daughter to death, saying he felt she was disrespecting him.
Mansour, 64, of Cleveland, shot his youngest child, 27-year old Tahani, a pharmacist, once in the side of her face and again in back of her head as she slept in the family home.
The two continually argued about her messy room and her late nights. Tahami, the youngest of seven children,
Tahani Mansour
had a non-Muslim boyfriend whom she had kept a secret from her father, fearing the consequences of disclosing such information.
“When she was with him, she had to pretend like she was with other people. She was worried about what would happen if he found out,” said County Prosecutor Andrew Rogalski.
However, before the honor killing when her father was on a trip abroad, Tahani had not slept at home – information her father had found out.
The night of the shooting, Tahani had come home after midnight. The two had argued. During the confrontation, Tahani “brushed him off” and went to bed.
It was then that Mansour took a gun he took with him when he made large bank deposits for his business and went to Tahani’s room.
“If she doesn’t respect me, then she’ll respect this,” Jamal later told the police.
Mansour pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault and was sentenced 22 years in prison.
Based on statistics culled in 2015, there are an estimated 23-27 recorded honor killings in the United States annually. The Department of Justice says honor killings in the U.S. are a growing problem.
Mansour can be seen crying during the sentencing saying, asking for forgiveness and saying he wished he were the one dead:

ISIS Supporter Arrested Trying to Blow Up Florida Mall

FBI counter-terrorism agents arrested a Miami man for attempting to detonate a bomb in the Dolphin Mall, the Miami Herald reported.
A confidential informant tipped off the FBI about Vicente Solano’s intention to detonate a weapon of mass destruction at the large mall in Doral, a northern suburb of Miami.
Although authorities believe he was acting alone, Solano made pro-Islamic State videos before setting off for the attack. He was arrested while planning to detonate a fake bomb he had acquired from undercover FBI agents.
As of 2015, the FBI said they had ongoing terror investigations in all 50 states of the U.S.

The defeat of Raqqa, Islamic State’s self-declared capital, means the end of the caliphate is in sight, said U.S. President Donald Trump. The president also said this means the U.S. will “transition to a new phase” in its involvement in the Syrian war.
“The defeat of ISIS in Raqqah represents a critical breakthrough in our worldwide campaign to defeat ISIS and its wicked ideology,” the president said in a statement released October 21, 2017. “With the liberation of ISIS’s capital and the vast majority of its territory, the end of the ISIS caliphate is in sight.
“We will soon transition into a new phase in which we will support local security forces, de-escalate violence across Syria, and advance the conditions for lasting peace, so that the terrorists cannot return to threaten our collective security again.”
Earlier in the week, Trump said the defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria was made possible through a “change in the rules of engagement,” something he said he promised during his campaign and instituted after becoming president.
“As a result, ISIS strongholds in Mosul and Raqqah have fallen,” Trump said. “We have made, alongside our coalition partners, more progress against these evil terrorists in the past several months than in the past several years.”
Earlier in the week, Trump claimed credit for the defeat of ISIS, saying it hadn’t happened previously because “you didn’t have Trump as your President.”
However, the terrorist group still maintains pockets of control in Syria and Iraq that are proving to be very deadly. In Mosul, which was liberated by coalition forces in July 2017, an ISIS cell invaded the city October 20, through one of the numerous islands located in the Tigris River which runs through the center of the city. Members of the cell broke into a home and slaughtered a mother and her two children. The family was targeted for their membership in a Sunni tribal organization involved in fighting against ISIS.
Mosul, the third largest city in Iraq, was taken over by Islamic State in June 2014.

Muslim Brotherhood Deepens Its Ties on Capitol Hill

New evidence suggests the Muslim Brotherhood has big plans for the U.S. and a variety of countries around the globe that involve hundreds of millions of dollars in a bid to gain political influence.
The exact details come from a mole inside a meeting of Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Istanbul, Turkey, and made public in Arabic by the Egyptian news outlet 7th Day.
The gathering took place at the city’s Akgun Hotel with members of the Brotherhood’s U.S.-based revolutionary council among the 21 in attendance.
United States
Much of the conversation focused on attempts to curry favor in Congress.
They reportedly met North Carolina Democrat Congressman David Price – notable for his early condemnation of the 2003 war in Iraq, Californian Congressman Alan Lowenthal and centrist New York Republican John Faso.
The Istanbul meeting was told how Brotherhood officials heard from Price and Lowenthal that they would try to reduce U.S. aid to Egypt by 40 percent by the end of 2017. The Brotherhood is deeply opposed to the current pro-American regime in Cairo.
The organization held rallies in New York’s Times Square and with CAIR and other Islamist organizations in Illinois and Boston.
Among those said to have attended a Brotherhood-backed event was former Barack Obama adviser Dalia Mogahed.
Help Clarion Project educate Congress on the Muslim Brotherhood.
Qatar
Alongside Turkey, Qatar appears to be the main backer of the Brotherhood – to the tune of tens of millions of dollars.
Doha has funneled $100 million to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt since 2014, 7th Day reported. The money was to be used for political and media campaigns as well as supporting the families of Brotherhood members serving time in Egyptian jails. The meeting heard how some 200,000 bank accounts were used in order to transfer the funds. Clarion recently reported on the Muslim Brotherhood’s huge international piggy bank.
Educational Influence
The brotherhood set up its own international university in 2016 with branches in the UK, Canada, Malaysia, Sudan and Thailand. This allows the MB’s disciples from Egypt to legally enter other countries.
The college quickly established partnerships with local universities in several countries. Its degrees are recognized in states including the UK.
Staff recruitment is also an opportunity to bolster the ranks of the wider organization.
The brotherhood also created the UK- and Irish-based Doctors for Freedom to lobby for the release of members currently in Egyptian jails.

Why Isn’t Trump Helping the Kurds?

Two different sets of U.S. allies are now in open conflict in Iraq.
The autonomous Kurdish Region, located in northern Iraq, seeks to break away and form an independent state, while the federal government based in Baghdad views the attempt as illegitimate.
After weeks of mounting tension, Iraqi state-aligned militia forces rolled into the strategically important city of Kirkuk, a disputed area on the border just outside the Kurdistan Region. Kurdish forces defending the city withdrew, the Kurdish flag was pulled down and the Iraqi federal flag hoisted.
Both the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi forces were equipped with U.S. made weaponry.
The bold move came after Kurdistan refused to annul an independence referendum held three weeks ago where the Kurds overwhelmingly voted “yes” to independence.
But the Iraqi federal government is not acting alone.
Iraq, Turkey and Iran have made it very clear that they will not allow an independent Kurdish state to be established. Both Iran and Turkey have sizeable minority Kurdish populations which could try to break away should the Kurdish region of Iraq gain independence.
The Iraqi People’s Mobilization Units (PMU), who comprised a large proportion of the force which took Kirkuk, are back by Iran. Turkey has also agreed to hand over control of a checkpoint on the Iraqi-Turkish border to Iraqi federal authorities.
So where does the United States stand?
You would be forgiven for thinking the U.S. would be backing the Kurds. We know the Kurds love U.S. President Trump. Samantha Bee even did a special on why the Kurds love him so much. It may have something to do with the fact that he’s the first American president to arm them.
Trump is currently embroiled in a war of words with Turkey. He suspended non-immigration visas from Turkey last week, leading Erdogan to retort “we are not beholden to you” and respond in kind. Such comments may find a fertile audience, Turkey expert Cengiz Candar reported for Al-Monitor this week.

A group of U.S. military veterans and relatives of soldiers killed or wounded in Iraq filed suit against five pharmaceutical and medical equipment giants, accusing them of funding the Islamist terrorist militia responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq.
As reported by The Financial Times, the lawsuit names the parent companies and subsidiaries of AstraZeneca, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Roche Holding.
These companies stand accused of paying bribes to the Iraqi Ministry of Health to win contracts. The ministry was known to be controlled by the Mahdi Army, an extremely anti-American, Shiite terrorist militia backed Hezbollah, the Iranian-funded Lebanese terrorist organization.
The suit charges that money from these bribes was used to fund the militia – allowing them to buy weapons, train fighters and conduct logistic support.
“Defendants’ corrupt transactions aided and abetted Jaysh al-Mahdi’s terrorist operations against Americans in Iraq,” the lawsuit states.
The U.S. military suffered tremendous losses between 2005 and 2009 at the hands of the Mahdi Army. The lawsuit includes a 27-page itemized list of U.S. soldiers killed or injured at the hands of the terrorist militia, including claims of suffering by relatives.

Kill Them All: France on French ISIS Fighters

The question of what to do with captured ISIS fighters has vexed many European countries who have nationals fighting for the terrorist group. With the fall of Raqqa, the de facto ISIS capital and reports of 400 ISIS fighters surrendering, that question has become more urgent.
France has a simple solution, as reported in The Times of Israel: Kill them.
“We are committed along with our allies to the destruction of Daesh (Islamic State) and we’re doing everything to that end,” French Defense Minister Florence Parly told reporters. “What we want is to go to the end of this combat and of course if jihadists die in the fighting, then I’d say it’s for the best.”
This fits with reports of previous French policy. When asked if the government of Emmanuel Macron would continue French policy of killing ISIS fighters with French citizenship, French government spokesman Christophe Castaner told reporters, “I say to all fighters who join the Islamic State group and then go abroad to wage war that waging war brings risks, and they must accept those risks.”
The Times of Israel also reported an understanding between the Iraqi army and the French to kill any French citizens fighting for ISIS that are caught: “We will prevent as much as possible any French person leaving Mosul alive,” said Abdelghani al-Assadi, a top commander in the Counter-Terrorism Service, quoted by Paris Match. “Our aim is to kill them so that no one from Daesh can flee.”

Guilty: Man Who Wanted to Behead Pamela Geller
Home > Political Islam > In the US > National Security > Guilty: Man Who Wanted to Behead Pamela Geller
BY CLARION PROJECT Thursday, October 19, 2017
Pamela Geller. (Photo: Creative Commons)
David Daoud Wright, 28, was found guilty for orchestrating a plot to behead controversial counter jihad campaigner Pamela Geller.
Wright was found guilty of conspiring to provide support to ISIS, acts of terrorism and obstructing justice in a Massachusetts court on Wednesday.
He recruited his uncle, Usaamah Rahim, 26, and Nicholas Rovinski, 26, to join him in the plot. Rahim was in contact with notorious ISIS recruiter Junaid Hussein (who has since been killed in a drone strike in Syria), who gave the group information about Pamela Geller for the plot.
Rahim was shot by police in Boston after he charged officers with a knife. Rovinski pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide material support to a terrorist organization last year and testified against Wright.
The plot was inspired by a fatwa (Islamic religious ruling) issued by the Islamic State calling for the head of Pamela Geller.
Geller has long been a prominent critic of jihad. Head of the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Ibrahim Hooper once called her “Queen of the Muslim Bashers.” In 2015, her American Freedom Defense Initiative organized a “Muhammed Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest,” to protest against blasphemy laws and attacks against journalists and cartoonists who have drawn the founder of Islam.
The event was attacked by two Islamic State gunmen. The terrorists were shot and killed at the scene.
“I was their prime target,” Geller told FoxNews.com. “Muslims have called for my death and published on Twitter what they think is my home address. Shortly after the Garland event, ISIS issued a formal fatwa calling for my death.”’
Geller has just published a new book, Fatwa: Hunted in America, about her experiences.

Saudis Order Review of Mohammed’s ‘Teachings’ to Combat Terror
Home > World > Saudi Arabia > Saudis Order Review of Mohammed’s ‘Teachings’ to Combat Terror
BY CLARION PROJECT Thursday, October 19, 2017
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman (Photo: GIANLUIGI GUERCIA/AFP/Getty Images)
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman issued a decree ordering the establishment of a body to review the interpretations of the teachings of the Islamic prophet Mohammed that are being used to justify violence and terrorism.
These teachings, known as the hadiths (reports or narratives) comprise accounts of the sayings, habits and actions of Mohammed written many years after his death. Different sects of Islam accept different collections of hadith. Some Muslims who call themselves Quranists, only accept the validity of the Quran and none of the hadiths.
Salman directed the Saudi Culture and Information Ministry to establish a body to investigate the hadiths that are being used by extremist organizations to justify their actions.
The ministry said the aim of the new authority would be to “eliminate fake and extremist texts and any texts that contradict the teachings of Islam and justify the committing of crimes, murders and terrorist acts.”
The body will include Islamic scholars from around the world and be headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Hassan al-Sheikh, a member of the Saudi Arabia’s Council of Senior Scholars, the kingdom’s highest religious authority.
Earlier this year, during a visit by U.S. President Donald Trump, Salman inaugurated the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology “to expose, combat and refute extremist ideology,” according to the center’s Twitter account.
While Saudi Arabia has made moves against extremism, it is, at the same time, spending billions of dollars to spread its own extremist version of Islam, Wahhabism, throughout the world through the funding of mosques staffed with Saudi-approved imams. The kingdom has also made enormous donations to U.S. and Western universities to establish Middle Eastern study departments.
Wahhabism has inspired terror groups from ISIS to al-Qaeda and others. The September 11 attacks were carried out mainly by Saudis.

Media Politics an Asset for Islamists

BY RYAN MAURO Thursday, October 19, 2017
A press conference with US President Donald Trump

The media is missing a huge part of the controversy surrounding President Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. While Manafort is reportedly expecting to be indicted for his ties to Russia, he has gotten barely any heat for lobbying on behalf of a Pakistani intelligence front linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.
Manafort was Trump’s campaign manager from June to August 2016. He resigned after several reports surfaced about his business dealings with Russia and Russian allies in Ukraine, which may have included money laundering.
Manafort has reportedly been told to expect to be indicted.
After he resigned, Manafort continued to be seen at Trump Tower. After the election, he advised Trump on choosing members of his administration.
TO date, almost all of the attention has been on Manafort’s ties to Russia because of its political impact. Few know that he lobbied—perhaps illegally—for a front for Pakistan’s terrorism-sponsoring ISI intelligence service and the Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas network in America.
Between 1990 and 1995, Manafort’s firm was paid $700,000 as the registered lobbyist for the Kashmiri-American Council. Its funding came from Pakistan intelligence as part of a political influence operation.
It was incorporated by a Pakistani spy, Ghulam Nabi Fai, who led the group until he was arrested in 2011.
The other incorporator was the wife of a senior official of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a group labeled as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas-financing trial. The Justice Department listed ISNA as an entity of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.
Fai’s partner in Pakistan, also an ISI intelligence operative, was so wrapped up in the jihadi world that he traveled to Afghanistan with a Pakistani nuclear scientist who had discussed nuclear weapons with Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda co-founder Ayman al-Zawahiri in August 2001.
A former senior Pakistani official with direct involvement in the political influence operation said, “There is no way Manafort didn’t know that Pakistani was involved with” the Kashmiri-American Council.
The official recalls flying to the U.S. from Islamabad to meet with the ISI spy, Ghulam Nabi Fai, at Manafort’s home. The purpose of the meeting was to “review strategy and plans” to influence Congress through the Kashmiri-American Council.
One of the objectives was to move U.S. attention “away from the involvement of Pakistan in sponsoring terrorism in Kashmir and elsewhere,” according to Gordon Kromberg, who prosecuted Fai, in 2012.
Campaign donations were a major part of Pakistani intelligence’s strategy, with at least $80,000-100,000 being allotted for it.
If Manafort did know that the Council was a front for the Pakistani government, then Manafort would have been required to register as a foreign agent of Pakistan.
When it first broke this little-noticed story, Yahoo! News pointed out that the Indian government accused the Kashmiri-American Council of being a Pakistani government front during the time in question.
India’s Foreign Ministry claims that Manafort and another member of his firm even went to Kashmir under the guide of being journalists as part of a “blatant operation” to produce anti-India propaganda.
Charlie Black, Manafort’s lobbyist at the firm, denied that they knew that the Kashmiri-American Council was linked to the Pakistani government. Black was an adviser to Ohio Governor John Kasich’s presidential campaign.
Manafort also had financial ties to the Pakistani government’s shady dealings beyond the Kashmiri-American Council.

As Yahoo pointed out:

In 2013 he acknowledged to French investigators that, in 1994, he had received $86,000 from two arms dealers involved in the sale of French attack submarines to Pakistan’s navy. The payments were part of an arrangement to compensate Manafort for political advice and polling he provided to French presidential candidate Édouard Balladur — one part of a wide-ranging French investigation into alleged kickbacks from arms sales dubbed by the French press “the Karachi affair.”
This story is especially relevant in light of Qatar’s hiring of conservative Republican political operatives as lobbyists, including several former senior aides to the Trump campaign.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also has strong ties to the Qatar regime, even serving on a board alongside Al-Jazeera officials.
Why is it that Manafort’s business ties to Russia get all the attention but his business with jihadists does not?
Once again, hyper-partisanship is blinding us to the whole scope of an important situation.
Most of the right-wing media doesn’t want to touch a story that reflects negatively upon President Trump’s inner circle and choices of who to surround himself with.
Most of the left-wing media doesn’t want to touch a story about Islamist political influence operations, as it would undermine their “Islamophobia” narrative. Further, they are absorbed in the Russia angle.
If the media put objectivity above its political narratives, Manafort’s case would show both sides the validity of concerns about Islamist and Russian influence operations. We don’t have to choose one and dismiss the other. Americans, and Westerners overall, should care about the full scale of both, which were aimed at all political parties.
The lack of attention paid to Manafort’s work for a Pakistani intelligence front linked to the Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas is a testament to how today’s political atmosphere is an asset for the Islamist cause.

What We Can Learn From Jefferson & the Barbary States
Home > Political Islam > In the US > National Security > What We Can Learn From Jefferson & the Barbary States
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Wednesday, October 18, 2017
Thomas Jefferson. (Photo: Public Domain)
Looking back at American history can give us lessons about what may or may not work in contemporary counter-extremism efforts. Some of the same mistakes being made today have been made before. Before making them again, we should learn from them.
Remember that time Thomas Jefferson attempted regime change in Tripoli to stop an Islamist state from terrorizing Americans? He then backed out halfway through and decided to pay off the Islamist pirates instead, leaving America’s local partners in the lurch after making these “partners on the ground” march 500 miles through the desert.
A little background: During the Revolutionary War, American shipping had been under the protection of the French navy. But following independence, the United States had to look after itself and that meant dealing with piracy.
So, in 1784, Jefferson, along with John Adams and Benjamin Franklin, were sent as emissaries to the Barbary States — Morocco, Tripoli, Algiers and Tunis — on the North African coasts. Their mission was to secure a deal that would prevent those states from capturing American ships and selling their crews into slavery (which was an ongoing problem).
In 1785, the American negotiators met with the Tripoli’s ambassador in London and asked him why they carried out these raids. Jefferson recorded the conversation saying:
“It was written in their Koran that all nations which had not acknowledged the prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to enslave; and that every mussulman [sic] who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise.”
Despite this chilling justification, the Americans continued to try and buy off the pirates, in keeping with the practice of other European states of the time. It should be noted that most historians agree that the primary motivation for Barbary state-backed piracy was an economic protection racket rather than faith.
Agreements were first concluded first with Morocco (in 1786), followed by Algiers (1795), Tripoli (1796) and Tunis (1797).
The Treaty of Tripoli took pains to make it clear that the United States did not have anything specifically against Islam. It reads:

Texan Parents Lied to FBI About Sons Fighting for ISIS
Home > Political Islam > In the US > National Security > Texan Parents Lied to FBI About Sons Fighting for ISIS
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Sunday, October 15, 2017

A couple from Plano, Texas, pleaded guilty of lying to the FBI to about their two sons who joined ISIS.
Arman, 27, and Omar Ali, 26, traveled to Egypt and then to Syria and became fighters for the Islamic State, according to federal court records.
Parents Mohommad Hasnain Ali, 57, and Sumaiya Ali, 49, reached a agreement with the prosecutor for a fine of $5,000 and being put on probation for making a false statement regarding international terrorism in June.
The agreement must be approved by a judge during an upcoming sentencing hearing.
When FBI agents interviewed Mohommad Hasnain Ali in May 2015, “he advised that his sons were peaceful, liked to study, and never indicated they would be affiliated with any terrorist group,” FBI records say.
But Mohommad was communicating with his sons in Syria via email. One message he received from Arnan in March 2015 read, “Things are heating up here, and I can’t guarantee me or Omar will be there in 2 months … I’ve been to the hospital every day with brothers from my group. Close friends have died, too many injured. Me and Omar are perfectly fine right now, but soon we may not be.”
Arman and Omar Ali have been charged separately with providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Since they are believed to be in Syria, they have not stood trial.
In July 2015, the FBI said it was investigating terrorist cases in all 50 states. As of September that year, an estimated 250 Americans had traveled to Syria and Iraq to join terrorists groups.
In December 2015, the George Washington Program on Extremism released an in-depth report ISIS In America: From Retweets to Raqqa.
In another case, a Virginia man was sentenced to two years in prison for lying to FBI agents about his knowledge of ISIS supporters.
Michael Queen, 28, was sentenced for obstructing justice and making false statements involving international terrorism. Another defendant, Soufian Amri, is set to be sentenced in the next two weeks on similar charges.
According to court filings, in a taped conversation between Queen, Amri and another person, Queen said, “I’m never going to throw a Muslim underneath the bus to try to do the right thing.”
The conversation was reportedly concerning Haris Qamar who wanted to join ISIS in the Middle East but was unable to travel. Instead, he is accused of sending money to ISIS, scouting Washington-area landmarks and taking photos of them to be used in ISIS publications as suggestions for lone-wolf attacks.

The following opinion piece was written in response to Elliot Friedland’s article: Five Things That Are Not Islamic Extremism. Both articles do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Clarion Project. Most importantly, Clarion Project welcomes the exchange of ideas on this as well as all other topics on our site. To submit an article, please click here.
For the purposes of this argument, I am going to begin from several starting premises. First, that the principles I defend apply to any form of religious “modesty dress” which is imposed on biologically-defined groups by community or family pressure.
This means we can set aside endless hairsplitting over whether the principles ought to apply to a hijab, burka or niqab. Second, the question whether or not Islam actually requires veiling or not is immaterial, since interpretations of what counts as “truly Islamic” are endless and cannot be resolved by any means other than consensus or fiat.
Female veiling is indisputably a Muslim cultural practice, irrespective of whether it is truly “Islamic.” I hope these caveats will be sufficient to prevent detractors from misdirecting the debate to tangential issues irrelevant to my arguments.
What are the limits to the power that can rightfully be exercised by society over individual women who wish to adhere to religious dress codes? How can their desire to conform to a religious dress code be balanced against the rights of other women who wish not to conform to religious community pressure?
Even fierce critics of a state ban on religious “modesty” dress admit without hesitation that there are plenty of Muslim women who (due to legal, quasi-legal, or illegal-but-hidden forms of familial and/or community pressure) wear the veil involuntarily.
Historically, liberals have protected both freedom of religion and freedom from it – i.e. the right of people to dress as they please. Freedom to dress however one pleases must include the freedom of people not to be told how to dress by religious authorities or others in their communities or families.
Liberalism does not require us to accept the double standard by which we bar our government from “telling people what to wear” while giving conservative religious authorities freewheeling power to do so. We know only too well from the testimonies of liberal Muslim and ex-Muslims who have been liberated from family and community pressures how difficult, indeed even dangerous, it can be to dissent from community-imposed customs.
In the first Chapter of On Liberty (1859), the architect of political liberalism, John Stuart Mill, was at pains to expand the protection of the individual beyond protection from the state to a full protection from oppression by “the will of the most numerous or most active part of the people; the majority, or those who succeed in making themselves accepted as the majority.”[1]
Mill argued that the abuse of power by a tyrannous majority is as dangerous as any other abuse of power. The tyranny of the majority, while it may at first operate through the mechanisms of state, can become an even more formidable social oppressor than the state because it is more insidious and “leaves fewer means of escape, penetrating much more deeply into the details of life.”[2]
For these reasons Mill urged that protection must extend beyond protection from the magistrate to protection also against:

Radical Islam in Bosnia: The Forgotten War

BY SAM BOCETTA Monday, October 16, 2017

The Bosnian war of 1992-1995 seems to have been largely forgotten about nowadays, but it continues to have large consequences for U.S. foreign policy and the war on terror.
Many fighters were radicalized during the conflict and in recent years have turned up in many war zones in Europe and elsewhere. In addition, the war attracted many radical Islamists from outside Bosnia, who got their first real taste of armed conflict.
Thinking back to the way the Bosnian war was characterized in the 1990s, this may be surprising. The most common rubric used to understand the conflict, at least in the U.S., was that it was a resurgence of an “ancient ethnic conflict.”
This phrase was always a bit misleading – the war also had roots in economic strife and the broader conflicts that accompanied the end of the Cold War – but contained a grain of truth.
Calling the Bosnian War an “ethnic” conflict was also misleading in another way. In the U.S., we are used to thinking of “ethnicity” as a concept somewhat analogous to “race.”
In other contexts, however, this slippery term is used to mean radically different things. In sub-Saharan Africa, for instance, it normally designates the language that a person or group speaks. In Bosnia, and in the broader Balkan region, it is used to describe religion.
Once this is realized, the Bosnian War becomes easier to understand as one of the first modern instances of conflict involving radical Islam. Though the war was reported as a struggle between “Serbs,” “Croats” and “Bosniaks,” in reality it was between Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Muslims.
Radical Islam in the 1990s
A certain portion of the Bosnian people have been Muslim since the country was occupied by the Ottoman Empire in the 1500s. Until that point, the people of the remote region followed various forms of Christianity, some more mainstream than others, and some that were outright heretical

Muslim Brotherhood Deepens Its Ties on Capitol Hill
BY RAN MEIR Tuesday, October 17, 2017

“To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.”
Certain quarters on the Left, probably under a lot of $$$$ influence, are suggesting that I’m anti-Muslim. These organizations are not even Muslim themselves, so how dare they question my faith, my relations with fellow Muslims who are my family and friends and my right to critique those Muslims who are tarnishing my faith.
There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. Do they suggest I am “anti” all of them? That would take a lot of “anti” — and BTW, being anti-anything is not my beat. I leave this to anti- fa and regressive left types!
Although these organizations pride themselves on their literary and speculative work, they would be wise to look up the definitions of “anti” and “critique.”
“Anti” means to be opposed to a particular policy activity or idea. “Critique” is a detailed analysis and assessment of something literary, philosophical or political theory.
Am I anti-Muslim if I call for separation of mosque and state?
Am I anti-Muslim if I call for a halt to honor-based violence against women, which includes female genital mutilation (rampant in the West), forced and underage marriages and honor killings?

Putting an End to Government Funding of Islamism

In an August 22 speech, President Trump denounced the flow of U.S. money to Pakistan while that nation harbors terrorists. South Asian Islamism is an enormous problem, and yet a great deal of the discussion in America surrounding Islamism focuses on the Egyptian-founded Muslim Brotherhood.
But the Muslim Brotherhood is far from the only Islamist network in the United States; it is simply the best known. Other Islamist movements also benefit from government ignorance about the diversity of Islam and Islamism across the globe.
The South Asian Islamist movement Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), for instance, has received millions from the U.S. taxpayer for its powerful network of charities and welfare services, which are designed to obtain external funding as well as legitimize Jamaat-e-Islami as a representative voice of Muslims, in both America and South Asia.
Although Jamaat-e-Islami has its own ideologues, literature and infrastructure, it is often described as the South Asian “cousin” of the Muslim Brotherhood. Qazi Ahmad Hussain, head of Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan, has declared: “We consider ourselves as an integral part of the Brotherhood and the Islamic movement in Egypt….Our nation is one.”
Jamaat-e-Islami’s history is bloody. During the 1971 Liberation War in Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami fighters helped Pakistani forces massacre hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis seeking independence from Pakistan.

At a recent meeting of the Strategic Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran titled “Analyzing Trump’s behavior,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, addressed recent developments regarding the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA).
“If the Americans think that they will ultimately be negotiating such issues with Iran, they have chosen a completely wrong path. Iran intends to solve these issues off the negotiating table. There is absolutely no room for negotiation,” he threatened.
Jafari also stated that if the United States is bent on implementing new sanctions against the Guard Corps, they had better move their regional bases at least a 2,000 kilometer radius away from Iran (i.e., outside missile range).

Senior Figures Call for UK to Ban Muslim Brotherhood

There’s growing pressure on the British government to ban Muslim brotherhood activities in the UK.
Calls from a bipartisan group of MPs and a parliamentary committee urging engagement with the Muslim Brotherhood were also rejected by UK governmental officials.
Citing the group’s “high ambiguous relationship with violence extremism,” officials said that since the time of former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi (from the Brotherhood party) and up until the present, the Brotherhood had not done enough to demonstrate political moderation or a commitment to democratic values.
A previous report by former UK prime minister David Cameron’s government rejected the myth that the Brotherhood is “moderate” and the false notion that it is “non-violent.”
In a document released late last week, the government responded to calls to begin “discreet relations” with exiled members from Morsi’s government, which was ousted in a popularly-supported military coup in 2013 after just one year in power.
The report cited not only the Brotherhood’s use of violence, but noted that since the Brotherhood’s party lost power in Egypt, the Islamist organization fueled sectarianism with its comments about Pope Francis and denied the involvement of ISIS in terror attacks on the country’s Coptic Christians (despite claims by ISIS that it was indeed behind the attacks).
Further, the report noted, the Brotherhood accused Egypt’s current government of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of “organizing or facilitating the attacks” against the Christians.

Washington’s Biggest Strategic Blunder

Kurds in Iraq rally for independence (Photo: SAFIN HAMED/AFP/Getty Images)
The U.S. is still poking the eyes of the Kurds in Iraq for their referendum on independence, with the State Department declaring that the Kurds’ vote is “illegitimate” and that America opposes an independent state for the Kurds.
“The vote and the results lack legitimacy and we continue to support a united, federal, democratic and prosperous Iraq,” said U.S. Secretary of State Tillerson.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders defended the Trump Administration’s position using the absurd defense that a unified Iraq can “push back on Iran.”
Question: How has that worked since out since 2003?
The U.S. already took a position closer to that of Iran, Turkey, Qatar and various Islamists by expressing its staunch opposition to the Kurdish referendum, which was merely an expression of the desire for independence and not even a formal declaration of statehood.
Then, as the pro-American Kurds celebrated in the streets and enjoyed casting ballots in a region where many cannot, the U.S. State Department rubbed salt in the wound by expressing its “great disappointment” when it could have said nothing or moved on. Iran’s propaganda outlets were happy to broadcast the U.S.’ comments.

The British audience for ISIS content online is the largest in Europe.
The UK is poised to announce October 10 a new law that could put viewers of terrorist content on the internet behind bars for up to 15 years.
Home Secretary Amber Rudd will explain the jail term will apply to those who repeatedly view such content as well as to those who publish information about members of the armed forces, police and intelligence services for the purpose of planning acts of terrorism.
The British audience for ISIS content online is the largest in Europe. According to the Home Office, since September 1, ISIS supporters published 67,000 tweets in English promoting their cause. Between January and August this year, more than 44,000 links to ISIS material were created and shared.
Rudd also recently announced a new national police hub dedicated to cracking down on internet trolls posting hate crimes online.
“We recognize and will uphold the right to free speech even where it causes offence – but this does not extend to inciting hatred or threatening people,” said National Police Chiefs’ Council lead for hate crime, Assistant-Chief Constable Mark Hamilton.
He added that the hub, which is projected to be operational by the end of the year, would “reduce the burden on frontline officers and help bring more offenders to justice.”

The governments of Iran and Turkey recently reached an accord on Idlib, a Syrian town now the focus of American interests, which brings relations between two of the largest and most influential states in the Middle East momentarily out of the shadows.
Their rivalry goes back a half-millennium, included 11 wars, and now remains, in the words of the Washington Institute’s Soner Cagaptay, the region’s “oldest power game.” What does the recent accord signify and how will their competition influence the region’s future?
Iranian and Turkish parallels are noteworthy. Both countries have populations of 80 million. (Egypt, the region’s third large country, has 96 million.) Both boast ancient civilizations, long imperial histories, tensions with Russia, and a successful avoidance of European colonialism. In modern times, each came under the rule of a ruthless modernizer after World War I, followed more recently by an even more repressive Islamist.

How the US Gov’t Funds Terror
https://clarionproject.org/us-govt-funds-terror/
Home > Terrorism > How the US Gov’t Funds Terror
BY GUEST CONTRIBUTOR Monday, October 9, 2017
By Gregg Roman

With the entire nation seemingly engaged in a heated dialogue about neo-Nazis and white supremacists, now seems like a good time to begin discussing how best to combat extremism. I have previously written about the need to engage with minority communities, work with moderates of all stripes and begin the process or marginalizing extremists. This work is critical to building a constructive future for our nation.

But what if I told you there was a charity that receives federal funding and uses it to support extremist ideology and to indirectly bankroll terrorism? Seems pretty far-fetched, right? Well, buckle up.

Established in England in 1984, an organization called Islamic Relief is the largest Islamic charity in the Western world, comprising dozens of branches around the globe. Its officials have dined at the White House, received awards from the British monarchy and enjoyed millions of dollars of funding from Western governments, including from the United States.

The organization does a great deal of laudable work. They help provide access to clean water for people who need it badly. They provide food to the hungry, respond to natural disasters and teach people to read. They also happen to promote an ideology that encourages hatred and violence.

In 2015, the United Arab Emirates, a key ally of the United States, designated Islamic Relief as a terrorist organization because of its links to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. This ban followed similar accusations leveled against the charity in Israel and Egypt. In 2016, it emerged that the international bank HSBC had closed down Islamic Relief’s accounts over terror financing fears.

Then, in January 2017, following a statement by a German minister in the Berlin Senate that Islamic Relief was closely connected with the German branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, Germany’s Federal Court of Auditors announced an investigation into Islamic Relief for a “potential misuse of the aid money.”

And in April, The Times reported that Britain’s Charity Commission – the government’s regulator of non-profits – was investigating the charity’s decision to organize a tour with Yasir Qadhi, an extremist American preacher previously recorded telling his audience that killing homosexuals was part of his religion.

Through all this, the U.S. branch of Islamic Relief (IR-USA) remained relatively unscathed. But recently uncovered evidence of extreme, violent anti-Semitism expressed by senior officials of IR-USA threaten to make the growing scandal a pan-Atlantic affair. IR-USA’s current chairman is Khaled Lamada, a prominent Egyptian-American and a public supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Lamada’s Facebook page includes a number of alarmingly anti-Jewish posts. He has re-published text praising the “jihad” of the “Mujahidin of Egypt” for “causing the Jews many defeats” and shared posts that praise Hamas for inflicting a “huge defeat” against the “Zionist entity.” In addition, Lamada has circulated videos that claim the current leader of Egypt, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, is secretly Jewish and that he opposes the Muslim Brotherhood on the orders of the Jews. Lamada simply comments “I hope that this is not true.”

In response to these revelations, IR-USA said it “strongly rejects these unfounded accusations.” It added that “the personal attacks on Mr. Lamada result from inaccurate translations of Arabic,” although Islamic Relief failed to provide its own translations, and Lamada has since deleted the posts and restricted public access to his Facebook account.

Lamada is far from IR-USA’s only problem. In January, the Middle East Forum revealed that IR-USA is a key partner of a Hamas-linked charity in Gaza named the Unlimited Friends Association, which, using money raised in America, gives money to the families of deceased Hamas terrorists. Then, in July, we found that another senior official of IR-USA, Yousef Abdallah, had published a story praising “martyrs” who provided guns to “kill more than 20 jews” and “fire rockets at Tel Aviv.” Elsewhere, Abdallah published text that referred to Jews as “stinking.”

IR-USA is the largest Muslim charity in America. In 2015, it reported total revenue of over $108 million. Between 2015 and 2016, IR-USA received $370,000 of taxpayers’ money, and it has enjoyed hundreds of thousands of dollars from prominent corporate and community foundations across the country.

As the accusations about Islamic Relief’s links to Islamist extremism and terror continue to mount around the world, Western governments, charitable foundations and faith leaders are finding it increasingly hard to support the organization.

As we embark on a serious national conversation about how to push radicals, hatemongers and extremists back into the shadows on the margins of our society, we must not just focus on neo-Nazis and white supremacists. Hatred is hatred and terrorism is terrorism. While we need to understand the motivation behind intolerance, protests and attacks, we must not let one form of hatred blind us to the very real threats presented by other forms.

Islamism is not a religion. It’s a political belief that the entire world must be subjected to a particular interpretation of a particular religion. That’s just as radical a departure from the promise of America as the disgusting ideology espoused by Richard Spencer and Chris Cantwell. And we’d do well to combat them both.

Gregg Roman is director of the Middle East Forum. This article was reprinted with permission from Middle East Forum.

Amid a limited degree of pomp, it was announced this weekend the final battle to defeat ISIS in Syria would begin on October 9. That’s great news after some five years of uncontrolled tyranny. The end of sex slavery, child soldiers and the cruelest of executions will be welcomed by all moral human beings.

However, the next issues – already under consideration by intelligence services for some time – are what happens to the hundreds of ISIS fighters who successfully flee justice and, of course, that burning question: Does the ideology die with Islamic State?

Let’s go with the easy one first: The ideology is very much alive, and while it was successfully fueled by ISIS’ brilliant propaganda machine, it is not dependent on the fate of Islamic State. For starters, many of the so-called non-violent Islamist organizations around the globe are a breeding-ground network for terrorists. Numerous researchers are convinced most terrorists were members of non-violent groups before carrying out their attacks or planned attacks. It’s a message our own Raheel Raza recently took to Congress. We need to crack down on the non-violent extremists now.

WRITE TO CONGRESS ABOUT NON-VIOLENT EXTREMISTS HERE.
Political Islam is where the messages are created; the resultant destructive actions are carried out by those willing to go just one step further.

Why Is Raheel Raza Screaming?

Canadian megaphone
Having recently addressed the U.S. Congress, Clarion spokeswoman and board member Raheel Raza this week took on Canada’s parliament. Speaking to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage, she urged an end to hate and the promotion of Muslim reformers.
Here are her remarks in full:
My family and I will have been in Canada for 30 years next year. Like most immigrants we came here to embrace democracy, gender equality and freedom of speech.
I can say with conviction that Canada is the best country in the world with a role to play in terms of leadership and I thank God for being a Canadian citizen to share in its values.
Today we are here to discuss Motion 103.
Let me make it abundantly clear that bigotry, hate and racism have to be condemned in the strongest terms. Sadly they have always been an integral part of human civilization. But human dignity depends upon our unequivocal condemnation of these ugly values and we MUST speak out against them.
Having said this, we are entrapped by use of the term Islamophobia which is not clearly defined. As I read the text of Motion 103, I can agree with the overall intent but without use of this term, because Islamophobia can and has been used to confuse the masses and stifle free speech.
I’ve just returned from attending the 36th session of UNHRC in Geneva and have seen how the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has for years been working towards stemming any critique of religion. Critique of religion BTW is not critique of people. If there are aspects of any faith that are veering towards human rights infractions, they must be discussed and debated. Religion is an idea and ideas don’t have rights – people do.
Canada should therefore be concerned about the rights of all its peoples and not allow itself to fall into the traps laid out by vested agendas.

Al Azhar University, the world’s largest Sunni Islamic educational institution, is where many of the world’s most brutal terrorists received their formal religious training. This is to be expected, given the nature of the material taught there.
Al Azhar has thousands of affiliated mosques, schools, learning centers and universities around the world, such as the Islamic American University in Michigan. The institution has also been unofficially controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood for decades.
According to the most recent data released by the Egyptian government, there were 297,000 students studying at Al Azhar University in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, there were 39,000 foreign students studying at Al Azhar. These students are taught the theological legitimacy of cannibalizing infidels, gruesome ways to torture non-Muslims to death, and the importance of raping and humiliating non-Muslim women.
This explains why numerous Egyptian public figures and intellectuals have called for a terrorism investigation of Al Azhar University. For example, Egyptian historian Sayyid Al-Qemany called upon the Egyptian government to designate Al Azhar University as terrorist organization.
In 2015, El-Youm el-Sabi, an Egyptian newspaper, published an investigative report about the curriculum at the university. According to the report, one of the books, called al-Iqn’a fi Hal Alfaz ibn Abi Shoga’a (Convincing Arguments According to Abi Shoga’a), taught to al-Azhar’s high school students states, “Any Muslim can kill an apostate and eat him, as well kill infidel warriors even if they are young or female and they can also be eaten, because they are not granted any protection.”
On the treatment of non-Muslims, the report quotes the same book as saying, “To preserve one’s self from the evil of an infidel, any Muslim can gouge their eyes out, or mutilate their hands and legs, or sever one arm and one leg.”
Even Muslims aren’t safe from Al Azhar’s teachings. According to the same the report, another book states, “Any Muslim is allowed to kill a fornicator, a warrior, or a [Muslim] who misses prayer, even without permission of the [ruling] imam.”
This is expected, given the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood dominates the organization. Not only does the Muslim Brotherhood use the university to recruit hundreds of thousands of students to adopt ISIS-style beliefs, the Brotherhood has used the organization to train young people for combat.

Your Woman’s Expiration Date Passed? Get a New One

BY CLARION PROJECT Thursday, October 5, 2017
Women passed their expiry date
A famous Saudi preacher caused a social-media storm when he declared a woman has an expiration date.
Medina Imam Majed el-Fahd urged young men to change wives once their “expiration date passes.” He tweeted his opinion:
Arabic tweet on the "expiration date" of women
The tweet says “#MarryASecondOneIfYouCan Praise the Lord I’m fulfilling my religion with four for the last 20 years and I’m thinking about upgrading, inshallah. A woman’s has an expiration date as opposed to a man.” [Ed.Note: Of course, he wrote that in 140 characters!]
El-Fahd, a lecturer at the city’s Islamic University, has had four wives for 20 years but feels he needs to add a wife.
For the record, el-Fahd does not believe men carry such a date.
Many Arabic reactions to his suggestion were critical, describing his idea and offensive to women. One went as far as to say:
“No, It’s your date that’s expired. Can you bear what a woman carries: tiredness, pain, staying up all night caring for her family?”

The Muslim Brotherhood has at least $100 billion at its disposal for work outside of its Egyptian base, according to Islamist Groups expert Sameh Eid.

The cash is designated for dawa – the spreading of Islamic ideology both among Muslims and non-Muslims, Eid told the An Hour From Egypt TV show on August 25.
Eid claims the Brotherhood is diverting donor money that is pledged for use in places like Afghanistan and Bosnia Herzegovina. These donations end up in the coffers of the Muslim Brotherhood instead.
Individual members give the organization eight percent of their salaries.
The Brotherhood uses its $100b. in projects in some 80 countries.
The Muslim Brotherhood (Al-Ihkwan al-Muslimun) is a Sunni, pan-Islamic organization based in Cairo, Egypt whose ultimate aim is the re-establishment of the global Islamic caliphate and the implementation of sharia as state law. Founded in Egypt in 1928 it is the oldest Islamist group in the world and along with Jamaat e-Islami in Pakistan and India, the most influential.

What does it mean “to volunteer?” Volunteering is acting on one’s own free will while expecting nothing in return. It often comes from the selfless desire to help.
Zainab (not her real name) was beaten by her husband almost daily. But in traditional, Islamist Egyptian society it’s not so simple for a woman to file a complaint.
Enter the Women’s Center for Guidance and Legal Awareness and its head, Clarion Project friend Reda Eldanbouki. Having seen just how difficult it is for people to come forward, particularly in poorer areas, Reda decided it was high time for someone to do something to make their lives that little bit easier.
Just a week ago, Reda and his team took to the roads with 10 vehicles in what he’s dubbed the Mobile Legal Clinic. The idea is to help those most in need – free of charge.
How does it work?
Anyone can call the clinic helpline and someone from the team will visit the caller at their home.

On November 16, 2017, the world’s first management conference on the subject of Islamic Radicalism in the Workplace will take place in Paris. Clarion Project spoke to event organizer Dr. Leslie Shaw, president of the Forum on Islamic Radicalism and Management and an associate professor at ESCP Europe Business School.
Clarion Project: This conference was originally scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. in July 2016 but you cancelled it. At the time, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a press release stating they “welcomed the postponement of an Islamophobic conference targeting constitutionally-protected religious accommodations in the workplace.” Why was the original conference cancelled?
Dr. Leslie Shaw: We cancelled the event for two reasons. First, it coincided with the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, which meant that attendance would have been less than anticipated. Second, two of our key speakers were overseas.
The cancellation actually turned out to be a good thing, because since then, we have set up a dedicated team to organize it, and we have conducted an in-depth survey targeting employers in Europe, the US, Canada and Australia.
The results of that survey demonstrate beyond question that Islamic radicalism is a major concern in the workplace.
Clarion: CAIR described your conference as Islamophobic. Can you comment on that?
Shaw: CAIR’s opinion is driven by sectarian self-interest and promotion of a particular agenda.
Clarion: But your survey and conference focus only on Islamic and not other forms of radicalism

On Monday, September 18, 2017, large number of the Ahwazi Arab children in different areas of Al-Ahwaz region launched a campaign calling for the right to have school education taught in their native language of Arabic. This campaign comes in conjunction with the start of a new school year in Iran. Arab students are systematically deprived of their right to have their education taught in their native language. All classes are taught in Persian only, which serves to disenfranchise Ahwazi Arab students who grow up speaking primarily Arabic.
Social media platforms have been flooded with pictures and videos promoting the hashtag #WeWantMotherTongueInClassrooms, and it’s now gone viral. Campaigners have called on Iranian authorities to allow students the right of receiving their curricula in Arabic as well as in the Persian, the official language of Iran.

In a dramatic announcement on Friday, police named three men who were allegedly plotting attacks in New York that would be “the next 9/11.”
One of the men confessed and has been in custody in the U.S. since May 21, 2016. Another suspect was arrested in Pakistan while the third was arrested in the Philippines.
All three men were charged with seven terrorism-related counts and face life in prison.
Although the plot was known to investigators months ago, it was only revealed to the public now due to an ongoing investigation into the suspects’ other terror connections.
“The most challenging and difficult decisions that are made in these investigations is finding where the balance is –- between protecting the integrity of the investigation and letting the public know the vital information they need to determine whether or not they feel safe going to a particular venue,” said former FBI Supervisor JJ Klaver.

The number of ISIS supporters in the United States who have been arrested for planning to commit acts of domestic terrorism is relatively low. However, we must take this very seriously because of the magnitude of potential damage and because terrorists who are radicalized online are difficult for authorities to track.
According to the George Washington Program on Extremism’s report, ISIS in America, as of July 2017, “The number of individuals charged in the United States on offenses related to the Islamic State stands at 131.” At first glance, this does not seem like a very large number.
Let’s look at the statistics more closely. Of those 131 people, “30% were accused of plotting domestic terror attacks.”
There are 39 people who were arrested for actively planning terror attacks within the borders of the United States.

Five Things That Are Not Islamic Extremism

BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Sunday, October 8, 2017

What is legitimate public expression of religion and where does it cross into extremism? Counter-extremism activist Maajid Nawaz isolates the key factor as control, saying:

“Islamism is the ideology of seeking to impose any version of Islam over society. Jihadism is the use of force to spread Islamism.”

This definition clearly delineates the problem as political rather than religious.

But sometimes people confuse legitimate religious/cultural expression with attempts to impose Islam. This is partially because some religious practices are, while valid and non-coercive, very public and can be intimidating to those unfamiliar with them.

Here are five examples of where Islam in the public sphere is perfectly acceptable.

1.Building Mosques

All faiths have the constitutional right to freedom of worship in America. But some are suspicious of Muslims who want to exercise those rights by building a mosque.

For example, a council meeting to move forward construction of a mosque in Georgia was cancelled in September 2016. An armed militia group had threatened to show up at the meeting and the council was worried about trouble. The militia made a threatening video. On the day of the meeting, two dozen protesters wearing t-shirts saying things like “Allah is not God,” and “Islam is of the devil” showed up at the courthouse to voice their opposition to the mosque. They did so while openly carrying weapons.

This is just one example of a proposed mosque that faced stiff opposition from residents concerned about Islamism.

“Existing and proposed mosque sites across the country have been targeted for vandalism and other criminal acts,” the American Civil Liberties Union recorded, “and there have been efforts to block or deny necessary zoning permits for the construction and expansion of other facilities.”

In 2012, PEW assessed 53 proposed mosques which had encountered opposition from local residents. Many of the objections were to possible noise, parking problems and other prosaic concerns that frequently greet any proposed new construction. However, some were opposed due to fears about Islamism.

While it is important to be aware of potential extremist preachers and activities (by researching the people and organizations behind the proposed mosque), most mosques are simply spaces for prayer and community events. The U.S. constitution guarantees the right to worship freely. The building a mosque alone should not be looked upon as an attempt to impose Islam on anyone.

2.Wearing a Hijab

Although some Muslim majority countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran impose dress codes, for most (although by no means all) Muslim women living in the West, covering their hair with a hijab (hijab) or longer garment is a choice. Since it doesn’t hurt anyone (John Stuart Mill’s harm principle remains one of the founding axioms of liberalism), there is no reason to try and remove a person’s right to wear one.

Yet sometimes people do target the hijab.

In 2016, a Georgia lawmaker proposed an amendment to the state’s anti-masking law to ban women from wearing burqas or veils while driving. The proposed law was pulled after a massive public outcry. In June 2017, the mayor of the French town of Lorette banned hijabs along with burkinis, an modest swimming suit worn by some Muslim women, in the town’s public pool.

Sometimes things get violent. A 14-year old girl in Georgia reportedly had her hijab ripped off in the street by a man yelling “terrorist.” The incident took place in a April 2017. A different attack in Milwaukee, also in April 2017, saw a man demand a woman remove her headscarf, then beat her when she refused.

There may be logical security reasons to ban full face veils in public, certainly at passport control or in court. But to ban headcoverings completely is an infringement of civil liberties and does nothing to curtail extremism.

3.Legal Aid for Terror Suspects

It is important that police and FBI are able to do their jobs and for law enforcement can get the information they need.

Yet, at the same time, the American legal system is extremely complex. Talking to the police without a lawyer present is regarded as risky by legal experts, even if the person is innocent. Professor James Duane of Regent University explains how a people can accidentally incriminate themselves and provide information that can lead to them being prosecuted for a serious crime that they did not commit.

Just like any other citizens, Muslims need access to lawyers and legal advice.

Lawyers, however, are extremely expensive. The state provides a certain amount of lawyers to those without the means to fund an attorney. Yet these public defenders are notoriously overworked and underpaid and do not have the time to devote proper attention to each case.

It is therefore vital that citizens have access to community organizations that can provide them with subsidized access to legal representation. For an organization to provide that representation to Muslims is not evidence of extremism or support for terrorism. Rather, it ensures that Muslim Americans have the same 5th and 6th amendment rights as other citizens.

In the aftermath of the Orlando shooting, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) provided free legal aid to all members of gunman Omar Mateen’s community. Clarion has longstanding objections to CAIR, which was designated as a terrorist group by the United Arab Emirates. See our full factsheet on CAIR here. However, they provided a service in that instance that was necessary, even if it would have been better for someone else to have stepped in and provided it.

4.Requesting Halal Food and Prayer Breaks

Not all religions require the same practices. Devout Muslims feel obliged to pray five times a day and eat meat slaughtered in a specific way.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act stipulates reasonable requests for accommodation of religious requests must be granted, as long as it does not cause undue hardship. Because of the relative vagueness of the law, workplaces have responded to Islamic religious requirements in different ways.
Some, especially Fortune 500 companies seeking to retain top talent, have gone out of their way to be accommodating. Public schools in New York City may soon be legally obliged to provide kosher and halal food to any student who requests them, if a bill was proposed by State Assemblyman David Weprin (D-Queens) in April 2017 passes.
Others have not been so accommodating. An operations manager at a United Parcel Service (UPS) warehouse in Minnesota fired two Muslims workers for taking prayer breaks in 2014. In June 2017 the former employees filed a lawsuit against UPS.
The Star Tribune reports:
“Abdullahi Dahir and Abdifatah Hassan said they had been allowed to pray as needed while at work until UPS hired a new operations manager. That manager refused to let Muslim employees pray outside of regular break times and also warned them against using trips to the bathroom to fulfill their need to pray five times a day, the suit contends. Those who didn’t comply were fired, the suit alleges.”
Sometimes it just isn’t possible to resolve disputes over religious practice in the workplace. In 2016 a judge ruled that a company which terminated 80 Somali meatpacking workers who staged a demonstration over a prayer times dispute did not contravene anti-discrimination law. The dispute had dragged out over some time involving strikes by different groups of workers, including those who were upset that the Somalis were perceived as being given special privileges.
Even where it is not possible for religious practices and the needs of a workplace to find an equitable compromise, it is still not extremist to request to be allowed to carry out religious ritual.
5.Being Inspired by Faith to Make the World Better
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan described “being good to your neighbor, treating others with respect, look after the elderly, get involved in your community, if you’ve got wealth share it, look after the environment” as being “intrinsic to being a Muslim,” in an interview with Christian Today about his faith.
Many Muslims in public life feel similarly influenced by their faith to improve the world.
Imam Abdullah Antepli, head of Muslim Affairs at Duke University, delivered the opening prayer for the U.S. House of Representatives on October 4, 2017. He prayed that God should “empower us and these legislators to further improve the culture of inclusion and welcome to all in our nation and beyond.”
Antepli’s prayer is a clear example of a public Muslim using his faith to support a vision for a better America.
It is inevitable that a person’s faith will influence their worldview to a certain extent. In the best cases, religion drives people to succeed and to create positive change. Muslims who feel that their faith inspires them in this way are not radicals imposing Islam on others, they are simply participating in a pluralistic democracy as fully fledged citizens.

Claiming Las Vegas Is an ISIS Win Whoever Did It
https://clarionproject.org/isis-behind-las-vegas/
BY ELLIOT FRIEDLAND Tuesday, October 3, 2017
Screenshot from the video published last May in which ISIS warned Las Vegas
Islamic State claimed responsibility claimed responsibility for the worst mass shooting in American history, the atrocity in Las Vegas. They described gunman Stephen Paddock as a “soldier of the Islamic State” who had “converted to Islam several months ago.”
Yet just because the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) claimed it as a terrorist attack, that does not mean they carried it out. Police have not yet released further information about the gunman and his motives. Clear evidence has not yet emerged linking the gunman to ISIS. The FBI claims the massacre has no connection to terrorism.
So did they do it? To a certain extent it doesn’t actually matter.
Amaq news agency, the semi-official Islamic State news agency, does not normally outright lie about terror incidents, notes Graeme Wood, an Islamic State expert, writing in The Atlantic. However it would not be the first time it has done so, Wood points out.
Even if ISIS did not carry out the attack, claiming credit for it would further sow seeds of panic, one of the main goals of the terror group. Increased misinformation and suspicion serves the agenda of creating terror and chaos by undermining public trust in institutions and fellow citizens. Simply threatening or claiming credit for attacks still creates the raw fear that is the real goal of terrorism.
Further, the strategy of jihadi terrorists is to isolate Muslim communities in the West by increasing hatred against them, forcing them to choose between abandoning Islam entirely or joining the extremists. Jihadi propaganda calls this “eliminating the gray zone” and creating mistrust between Muslims and non-Muslims is a key part of this strategy. If Muslims are angry at increased surveillance of their communities while non-Muslims are angry at perceived Muslim failure to confront terror, jihadi groups profit from the disharmony.
We still do not know the motive of the Las Vegas shooter. In claiming the attack for itself, the Islamic State is spreading terror regardless of who actually carried it out.

The Islamic State (ISIS) is “quadrupling down” on its claim of responsibility for the Las Vegas massacre by Stephen Paddock, claiming he converted to Islam months ago. There is no evidence to substantiate their claim at this point and, if ISIS is lying, then at least something good can come from this horrible atrocity by using the lie to blast away at ISIS’ credibility.
Rukmini Callimachi, a New York Times correspondent covering ISIS, tracked how ISIS reiterated its claims of responsibility with at least two comments on its Amaq News Agency propaganda outlet. It started referring to him as “Abu Abd El Bar.”
As skepticism of a jihadist motivation grew, ISIS also claimed credit on its Nashir channel on the encrypted Telegram messaging app. It then released a video based on the Vegas massacre on its Al-Battar Media. Callimachi said that ISIS only follows this pattern for its biggest attacks.
If Stephen Paddock is not a recent ISIS-inspired convert—and there isn’t a shred of evidence that he is except for the fact that he shared their desire for massive civilian casualties—then the U.S. has an opportunity.
ISIS thrives off of its followers’ illusions about the success of its caliphate, the evil of its enemies and the Sharia Disney Land its members supposedly enjoy. Accurate reports about disappointed defectors, abuse and failure are dismissed as lies from the Satanic Jews and infidels. It comes down to trust.
Dispelling these illusions requires irrefutable moments that prove ISIS’ defeats, failures and lies to the world and especially its own followers. This is one such rare moment.

In the aftermath of the Las Vegas attack in which least 58 people were killed and 515 injured, memes are circulating online suggesting that only brown or Muslim mass murderers are considered terrorists, while white people are considered mentally ill. While this may be how some media outlets present the facts, it it utterly false. Terrorism is carried out in the service of an ideology, not a label used depending on the ethnicity of the murderer.
Counter-extremism activist Maajid Nawaz made the following statement about terrorism Facebook:
“Terrorism is about motive and method to achieve that motive. It’s legally, and politically distinct from mass murder, genocide and other heinous crimes just like pedophilia is distinct from rape. We in the U.K. called the IRA terrorists. Just as we call ISIS terrorists now. It’s not about race or hating one religion more than another.
“Terrorism is a distinct category because it’s about trying to terrorize a population to alter their ideological or political course. It is deliberately and rightly distinguished from mass murder even if the latter also (obviously) scares people. I bet you’ve never argued for redefining “genocide” to call it terrorism instead just because both also “terrorize” people. Nor have you probably advocated redefining torture as terrorism, though it obviously terrorizes the victim.”

Five suspects were being held in France in connection with an “operational” improvised explosive device found in an upscale neighborhood in an apartment on the outskirts of Paris.

French sources say the main suspect is connected to radical Islamists and is known to intelligence authorities.

According to reports, the device consisted of two cylinders of gas soaked in petrol. The bomb was linked to a cell phone, which was assumed to be “a device to ignite” the improvised explosive. Two more cylinders were also found outside the building.

Although there was no one living in the apartment block where the device was placed, the building is close to the Parc des Princes, where the Paris football team PSG play their home games.

Commenting on the incident, France’s Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the purpose might have been simply to sow fear in the population. “Blowing up a building in a chic neighborhood shows that no one is safe…it shows that it could happen anywhere in France,” he added.

On October 1, two people were killed in a stabbing attack in Marseilles by an assailant reportedly shouting “Allahu akbar [God is greatest]!”

Human rights activists in Iran published a video on social media showing how Iranian security forces torture Ahwazi Arab prisoners, beating them and forcing them to bark and howl like dogs. The video shows a member of the Iranian security forces, who was reportedly versed in martial arts, punching the prisoners in their kidneys and cursing them.
The activists say the treatment violates international law and demanded those responsible be punished. Ahwazi Arabs are a frequently persecuted minority group in Iran. Random rounding up of Ahwazis by Iranian authorities often takes place during Iranian holidays when Ahwazi Arabs are known to gather together to demand their rights as equal citizens.

Two people were killed in a stabbing attack in France on October 1 by an assailant reportedly shouting “Allahu akbar.”
Police are referring to the incident as a “likely terrorist act.” The victims were two young women, aged 17 and 20. One had her throat slit while the other was stabbed in the stomach.
The attack took place at the Saint Charles train station in Marseilles. Soldiers guarding the station shot and killed the attacker at the scene. French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said the terrorist fled after the first murder, then returned to carry out the second.
The Arabic phrase “Allahu akbar” means “God is greatest” and is used in many different Islamic contexts, but in recent years it has been appropriated as a signature statement by terrorists.
Islamic State claimed the terrorist as one of their “soldiers” in a statement.
The attack in France followed an earlier terror attack in Edmonton, Canada. On September 30, a man drove a car into a police officer and then stabbed him, before fleeing on foot. A man matching the description driving a truck was later pulled over at a checkpoint around midnight. He tried to escape and ran over a crowd of pedestrians in the ensuing chase, seemingly deliberately, injuring four.
A Somali refugee was arrested on suspicion of carrying out that attack. He was on a watch list because of his extremist views.

Lebanese terror organization Hezbollah is sending operatives into Peru and preparing for attacks, said the director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, Breitbart reported.
Testifying before a Senate committee on threats to national security, the head of the center, Nicholas Rasmussen, also noted the Iranian-funded and armed Hezbollah is active in the U.S. and posed a threat to the homeland.
“In the [U.S.] homeland, FBI’s arrest two months ago of two operatives charged with working on behalf of Hezbollah was a stark reminder of Hezbollah’s continued desire to maintain a global attack infrastructure that poses an enduring threat to our interests,” he said.
The NCTC is part of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and brings specialists together from federal agencies – including the CIA, the FBI and the Department of Defense – to spearhead national and international counter-terrorism efforts.
In 2016, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration uncovered an enormous operation of Hezbollah, showing how the terror group is funding its efforts and purchases weapons from international drug trafficking.
Over the last number of years, Hezbollah established business relationships and money laundering schemes with the leading drug cartels in South America.
Peru is considered one of the largest countries in South America for the trafficking of cocaine, the majority of which ends up in Europe and the U.S.
According to Michael Braun, a former DEA operations chief, the cocaine trade in America “provides a never-ending source of funding” for Hezbollah’s operations in Syria and around the world.
In addition, Iran is a major backer of Hezbollah, providing up to an estimated $100 million a year to the terrorist organization. Hezbollah militias fight alongside Iranian units in Syria for President Bashar al-Assad. Russia also supports Assad.
In addition to the threat posed by Hezbollah, Rasmussen told the Senate panel, “Iran remains the foremost state sponsor of terrorism, providing financial aid, advanced weapons and tactics, and direction to militant and terrorist groups across the Middle East, all while it cultivates its own network of operatives across the globe as part of its international attack infrastructure.”

U.S. citizen Muhanad Mahmoud al-Farekh, 31, was convicted on nine charges related to terrorism including conspiracy to murder American nationals, providing material support to al-Qaeda and conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.
Farekh faces a sentence up to life in prison.
“Today, an American al-Qaeda member was brought to justice in a U.S. courtroom,” said Acting United States Attorney Rohde.
Prosecutors at his trial in New York showed that Farekh was behind a giant car bomb that failed to explode during an attack on an American military base in Afghanistan. A smaller bomb detonated at the gate.
Eighteen sets of fingerprints on the bomb as well as DNA evidence linked Farekh to the bomb.
Born in Houston and raised in Dubai, Farekh was arrested in Pakistan in 2014.
Farekh and two other students at the university traveled overseas to Pakistan in 2007 with the intention of fighting American forces. While in Pakistan, Farekh received training from one of the other students, Ferid Imam, at an al-Qaeda camp in the northern part of the country on the border of Afghanistan.
Imam was also responsible for training Najibullah Zazi, Zarein Ahmedzay and Adis Medunjanin, of Queens, New York, who were indicted for planning to carry out a suicide bombing attack in the New York subway system.
Farekh was studying at the University of Manitoba in Canada when he became interested in the teachings of Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born radical cleric who became an al-Qaeda leader and was killed by a CIA drone strike in Yemen.
Despite YouTube’s policy of taking down terrorist content, Awlaki’s videos have only been labeled “inappropriate” by the company and are still available for viewing. The media giant has been slammed for not banning them.
The videos were subjected to the company’s policy of “tougher treatment,” which the company takes to reduce the audience of “inappropriate” videos.
Research by the non-profit Counter Extremism Project (CEP) showed that more than 70,000 videos of Anwar al-Awlaki are still available for viewing on YouTube. Awlaki is considered to have inspired the 7/7 London bombers, the Charlie Hebdo attackers in Paris and the Orlando Pulse nightclub attacker.
“YouTube is a prime example of how internet companies are inconsistently responding to terrorist propaganda online,” commented Jean-Charles Brisard, chairman of the Center for the Analysis of Terrorism, speaking to The Sun.

Islamist activist Linda Sarsour called U.S. President Donald Trump’s new travel restrictions a “Muslim Ban” even though the new restrictions include two non-Muslim countries – North Korea and Venezuela.
Sudan, a Muslim country, was taken off the new list.
Sarsour tweeted, “Muslim Ban 3.0. #No MuslimBanEver” and “New travel ban aka Muslim Ban 3.0 does not have an expiration date. #NoMuslimBanEver.”
In another tweet, she decried the restrictions, saying “smh” (so much hate).
The Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islamist organization CAIR (the Council on American Islamic Relations) is spinning the new restrictions as “just one part of the administration’s ‘ugly white supremacist agenda’” in a press release dated September 24. The group is also promoting the hashtag #NoMuslimBanEver.
Sarsour and CAIR were peddling victimhood status way before Trump was a political commodity. In a media appearance in early 2015, Sarsour claimed Muslim children were being executed in the U.S.
On the Rachel Maddow show, Sarsour ranted, “We come to the U.S., 22 states with anti-sharia bills trying to ban us from practicing our faith, mosque oppositions. We’re fighting, you know, zoning boards across the country. Our kids are hearing this rhetoric; we have people — mosques being vandalized, kids being executed, Islamophobia, leaders on national television saying that, you know, holy wars and these people want to take over America.”
Sarsour recently teamed up with convicted terrorist Rasmea Yousef Odeh, who played a role in the murder of two students in a 1969 bombing of a supermarket in Jerusalem. Odeh was recently stripped of her U.S. citizenship and deported for lying on her original citizenship application to the U.S. Odeh and Sarsour were co-organizers of the Women’s March on Washington held after Trump’s inauguration last January.

German Election Shows Multiculturalism Debate Far From Over

Germany’s elections saw Chancellor Angela Merkel lead her Christian Union party to victory and secure a fourth term However, she also lost 8.6% of her vote base and saw nationalists enter parliament.
The populist anti-immigration party Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD) won 12.6% in Germany’s federal elections on September 24 in a breakthrough victory for what was previously a fringe party.
Results (as published by The Guardian):
CDU: 32.9%
Social Democratic Party: 20.5%
AfD: 12.6%
Die Linke (Left wing): 9.2%
Grune (Green Party): 8.9%
FDP (Classical liberal): 10.7%
The AfD has never previously held seats in the German parliament, the Bundestag. Founded in 2013 to oppose German bailouts of Greek banks, AfD became known through its strident opposition to German acceptance of 1.5 million refugees, mostly from the Arab World.
Merkel will now have to build a coalition to gain enough seats to rule.
The shock result saw the CDU registering it worst performance in nearly 70 years. Merkel’s former coalition partner the SDP declared it will go into opposition after a poor showing. Meanwhile, cracks within the AfD are already showing. Party chairwoman Frauke Petry announced her resignation from the party at a post election press conference.
Previously Petry had made anti-Islam statements such as calling for minarets to be banned from German towns.
The breakthrough result for the AfD and the poor showing of not only Merkel’s party but left-wing parties shows that the fierce debate over the impact of multiculturalism in Germany is set to continue for some time.
Germany is far from consensus over the best way to create an integrated and cohesive society and how to respond to the challenges posed by radical Islam.

BREAKING: Media Busted Hiding Sick Dem Scandal
September 24, 2017 Frank Spear
https://www.christiannewsalerts.com/media-busted-hiding-sick-dem-scandal/?utm_medium=push&utm_source=AP&utm_campaign=onesignal
The scandals in the Democrat Party are almost disease-like in the way they spread through the entire political world. One of the central scandals of the Democrat party looks ready to collapse.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was caught up in a scandal involving someone who allegedly worked as her IT aide named Imran Awan. Awan was caught trying to flee the country, and was arrested. Democrats tried to defend Awan by saying that he is a husband and father. The problem here is that now, multiple women have come forward to say that Awan abused them in multiple ways — both physically and mentally, according to the Daily Caller.

Salam Chaudhry called the police in 2015 to complain that she was being beaten in her home, located in a Manitoba Apartment Complex. The apartment was paid for by Awan. Worse yet, Chaudhry had two kids in the apartment when the beating occurred.

The second woman to report suffering abuse at Awan’s hands is named Samara Siddique. She confirmed with authorities on July 18th of 2016 that, “her boyfriend treated her bad and kept her there like a slave … [she] wants him out of her life. Ms. Siddique wanted info on how to obtain a restraining order against him,” according to the police report.

There were a total of three altercations between the two in 2016 alone. One time, authorities found cuts on Siddique’s arms and stomach.

These stories are horrific, but no one was prepared for the third woman’s story. Awan’s stepmother, Samina Gilani, is the third victim, and her long and violent history with Awan is enough to turn heads — and show that he is much more than a “father and husband.”

A 22-page police report reveals that she was exposed to threats, held in almost slave-like conditions, and suffered abuse. The events that she had to experience were horrific, and not something that anyone should have to go through.

The report reads, “Imran Awan showed up and threatened me for calling the police. Mr. Shahid Imran Awan threatened that he is very powerful and if I ever call the police [he] will do harm to me and my family members back in Pakistan and one of my cousins here in Baltimore.”

She went on to explain that Awan told her that her phone was tapped and seemed to insinuate that if she were to report him, there would be a price to pay.

Gilani confirmed with the Daily Caller that Awan held her against her will in her home. He was using his father’s name to store money that he received through ill-gotten gains. As she mourned the death of her husband, Awan’s father, he tried to get Gilani to sign paperwork that would give him rights to his father’s money.

This is not acceptable behavior for someone who is working in the IT department of our government. No lasting charges were ever filed against him for any of these crimes. It is unknown what the final result is going to be for Awan, but he will not get away with this horrific behavior.

WARNING: This article discusses an R-Rated satire movie with crude sexual themes, violence, racism etc. If you are easily offended, please do not read this article.

This week’s news is almost identical to the plot of the 2004 smash hit movie Team America: World Police, made by the creators of South Park.

Don’t believe me?

North Korea’s program of weapons of mass destruction pose a threat to the lives of millions of people, not to mention the stability of the fragile international order. There is strong evidence they are cooperating with Islamist extremists in Iran to secure nuclear weapons capabilities for both countries. Left-wing activist movements with a strong media presence urge restraint and negotiations and blame American aggression for the crisis. An effete and ineffectual United Nations meddles and hand-wrings, but ultimately does nothing. Meanwhile erstwhile allies look on askance at what they see as America’s crass, boorish, cowboy approach, lamenting that force alone cannot solve geopolitical problems. Many are asking if America’s time is over.

And America’s leader stands before the world to make a gung-ho speech putting “America First.”

ISIS used it’s latest video to goad Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson, into traveling to fight against Islamic State. The clip is also unusual because it’s thought to be the first time a Singaporean has “starred” in an Islamic State recruitment film.

“Why don’t you come here and fight us if you are man enough? So we can send you and your Apaches to hell fire,” the video’s narrator suggests to the sixth-in-line to the British crown (at 2:50 in the video).

The narrator, Abu Uqayl, laid down the gauntlet after Harry visited the ISIS terrorist’s native Singapore in June. ISIS has repeatedly threatened attacks on the UK and claimed several including this month’s bomb aboard a London Underground train.

In an unusual move, the Danish prime minister spoke out against the emergence of “parallel societies,” i.e. no-go zones in Denmark where police are unable to operate, Breitbart reported based on local reports in Danish media.
Merely the fact that a European politician is speaking about the subject would be news, but PM Lars Lokke Rasmussen said he is turning to the Danish parliament and his ministers to come up with ideas to address the problem that local municipalities admit they have been unable to solve.
“It’s a matter of being realistic about the situation,” Rasmussen said, “and there are areas where there is already a different set of rules. Where the gangs are in control and the police cannot work. I cannot sit and passively let it happen.”
After noting that “everything possible” was tried to solve the problem without success, Rasmussen asked the Danish parliament to “engage us in a different and more robust way.”
Particularly concerning is the lack of integration of Muslim students in Danish schools and problems surrounding housing projects, both issues the prime minister noted contribute to the establishment of parallel societies.
He also called on three of his ministers to come up with solutions to these problems and said the ministers would be given special authority to implement them in municipalities.

Shocking Confessions From Kidnapper of Christian Girls

BY MEIRA SVIRSKY Monday, September 25, 2017

Kidnapping and forcible conversion of Christian girls in Egypt are reportedly at an all-time high. A report from a former kidnapper who has since left Islam sheds light on this horrific phenomenon.
Identified only as “G” in an interview with World Watch Monitor, the former kidnapper says, “Salafist networks began in the ’70s and it’s reached its highest levels now, in the era of President Sisi … A group of kidnappers meets in a mosque to discuss potential victims. They keep a close eye on Christians’ houses and monitor everything that’s going on. On that basis, they weave a spider’s web around [the girls],” he says.
Sometimes they use a strategy of false romance. “A Muslim boy tells a Christian girl he loves her and wants to convert to Christianity for her,” he explains. “They start a romantic relationship until one day they decide to ‘escape’ together. What the girls don’t know is that they are actually being kidnapped. Most of the time they will not marry their kidnapper, but someone else …
“I remember a Coptic Christian girl from a rich, well-known family in Minya. She was kidnapped by five Muslim men. They held her in a house, stripped her and filmed her naked. In the video, one of them also undressed. They threatened to make the video public if the girl wouldn’t marry him.”
Vulnerable girls from troubled families or where the father is absent are prime targets. If a girl is a minor, papers are forged claiming she is over 18, the legal age of conversion and marriage.

Arab League Opposition to Kurds Only Fuels Iran

Sunni Arab leaders have largely been silent on the September 25 Iraqi Kurdish independence referendum, but Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abdul Gheit visited the Iraqi Kurdish capital last week to dissuade the Kurds from holding the vote.
In a recent letter to Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani, Ahmed described his fears of “disintegration and fragmentation,” noting in his plea that the Arab League is “strongly keen on ensuring the territorial integrity of the Arab states.”
What seems lost on Ahmed is the strategic pragmatism in allowing the Kurds to further solidify their proven bastion against Iran and successive waves of regional instability.
The Kurdistan region is an effective vanguard against Iran, the chief instigator of regional division. At the same time, it has been the Kurds who have beaten back ISIS from their other borders.
The region has also weathered simultaneously a collapse in oil prices, a total cut of support from Baghdad, the arrival of two million refugees and the onslaught of ISIS. Standing in stark contrast to their surroundings, the Kurds are the model for stability.
Tellingly, who else vehemently opposes Kurdish self-determination in Iraq and Syria? Iran and her shadow proxies.
The regional balance continues to tilt in favor of Iran’s aspirations to create a Shiite crescent from Iran to Syria to counter the Sunni world, the West and Israel, all under a nuclear umbrella and aided by Russia. Kurdish independence would stymie that.
Competing regional designs, whether pan-Arab irredentism or America’s “freedom agenda,” now lay in tatters with Iran picking up the pieces.

Next month Josh Walker will stand trial. His crime? Fighting against ISIS.

Apparently, if you are British and head off to the Middle East to fight against the evil that is Islamic State, when you come home you will be questioned, likely arrested and forced to stand trial for your actions.

Welshman Josh Walker is no exception. Police officers approached him immediately on his return to the UK after fighting with the Kurdish People’s Protection Units or YPG.

Not only is the YPG not a terror organization as far as the State Department is concerned, the U.S. even armed this fighting force in its frontline battle against Islamic State.

In this video, Walker explains why he went to Syria and what’s happened since:

When she was just 19, and a convert to Islam, Laura Passoni was abandoned by the father of her young son. Determined to deepen her expression of faith and in hopes of attracting a man who would keep his commitments to marital and family life, Laura responded by putting up a more devout Facebook profile, and very quickly she was contacted by an ISIS recruiter.

He promised her a man who would never leave her, a home in Syria, training as a nurse, and a good school for her toddler. Broken-hearted and wanting to believe, Passoni agreed to embark on a journey to the Islamic State.

To evade detection, she and her toddler and the man she had chosen with the advice of the recruiter traveled by land to Venice and then took a cruise ship to Izmir, Turkey. From there they continued in a taxi to Gaziantep and crossed into to Syria to join ISIS.

Passoni thought of the cruise as a romantic time in which she consummated her marriage to a near stranger.

Her induction into the Islamic State was far from what she had envisioned, however. She ended up staying in a “sisters’ house” while her husband went off to receive sharia training and become a fighter. She was invited as well to serve ISIS as an internet seductress or a member of the morality police (hisbah). She declined both offers.

Passoni became deeply disappointed as she found herself confined at home while her husband was away battling for the group. None of the ISIS recruitment promises materialized—no nurse training and no riches. She found herself having to let her son play alone unsupervised outside or go with “the brothers,” other Islamic State fighters to the mosque.

Witnessing how young the boys were that ISIS recruited into the Cubs of the Caliphate, many to go as suicide bombers, she feared her son would suffer a similar fate. She also became pregnant.

Desperate to escape, Passoni took her son in a taxi and headed for the border of ISIS territory, but the fearful driver turned her over to the ISIS police instead.

Passoni’s husband agreed to vouch for her, and she was confined under house arrest with ISIS cadres guarding her when he was absent, preventing her from making another attempted escape.

Eventually, Passoni managed to convince her husband to join her in an effort to flee and, with the help of smugglers, the little family of three found its way back to Belgium.

If they had been caught, her husband most likely would have been beheaded and she would have been returned to Raqqa, then forced into marriage with another fighter. Other women who have tried to escape have been raped and in some cases murdered by smuggles, according to the accounts of eye witnesses in our ISIS Defectors Interview Project.

Passoni’s husband is now serving prison time in Belgium, while she has been released conditionally. Her children, who were temporarily removed from her custody when she returned to Belgium, are now back in her care.

She spends her free time lecturing to young Belgians about the dangers of joining ISIS. A video clip of her interview with the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism (ICSVE) can be found here.

Passoni’s story follows patterns similar to those of many women who join ISIS. The path to violence almost always involves the classic interaction of four important factors: a group, its ideology, social support, and personal motivations and vulnerabilities. But there are also, commonly, more specific reasons.

One is political outrage. Many Muslim women as well as men around the globe witnessed the whole of Syria collapse into anarchy and violence under Bashar al Assad. They grew furious watching Assad’s scorched earth policy towards not only opposing combatants but also against Syrian civilians. That these atrocities continue to this day and often are just as brutal as what ISIS does to local populations that defy its rule is not lost on potential recruits. The motivation for some women who joined early in the conflict, as with their male counterparts, was rooted in grave concern about Assad’s sheer brutality in Syria, and in response to the political impasse in the country.

Others were already incited by ISIS’, and before that al-Qaeda’s, narrative that Islam, Muslim people and Muslim lands are under attack by Western powers and that a defensive jihad is necessary.

These women were lured by graphic YouTube videos of real suffering and injustices perpetrated against Muslims worldwide under dictators propped up by Western powers. The psychological impact of images of wars prosecuted by Westerners combined with civilian casualties may have played an important role in their decision to try to help defend the weak.

In fact, in studies of moral judgment, women and girls often make their assessments more relationally than men and may judge what might normally be defined as an immoral act to be moral if it saves a life, particularly the life of someone to whom a woman is related to.

ISIS and al Qaeda have been successful at garnering loyalties in support of a transnational ummah (Muslim community) and building up the idea of a greater family (fictive kin, in the jargon of social science) through the formation of the so-called Islamic caliphate.

They have been successfully tapped into various dimensions of populism and promote a doctrine that not only attempts to play on Muslim sentiments worldwide but also unifies Muslim demands against a common enemy—the West.

Add to the mix the complex discourse on marginalization and discrimination of Muslim women in the West. Women in Europe who want to wear headscarves or a niqab (full-face covering), or a burkini for that matter, may find themselves on the wrong side of the law in some countries. They also may be sidelined in the workplace or passed over for jobs. Some may be harassed on the streets.

Recruiters who promise female empowerment and emancipation, both political and economic, can be very persuasive to women who are feeling disillusioned and distressed by living in the West.

They are told of a utopian state where all Muslims are included and where being a Muslim is an advantage versus a disadvantage; where personal dignity, honor, purpose, significance and the material benefits of free housing, job training, free health care, matchmaking and salaries are promised to all who join.

For many women who join ISIS, the geographical relocation to Syria and Iraq serves as an attractive escape from personal and emotional problems—for example an overbearing, violent, and drunk father or husband—or the inability to attract a man considered a proper mate.

Until very recently, when it started losing significant swaths of territories in Iraq and Syria, ISIS claimed to embody the actualization of Islamic ideals. Women were invited to join in hopes they could win forgiveness for their sins and thus attain paradise when they pass into the next life.

According to the caliphate’s preaching, any man or woman who has seriously “sinned” could redeem him or herself by joining the Islamic State and, best of all, by volunteering for a suicide mission. There is nothing like “martyrdom” to guarantee to the person who comes to believe in it an immediate place in paradise.

The Making of Monsters

10-year old Yusuf, an American boy who appeared in an ISIS video threatening Trump and the U.S.
https://clarionproject.org/isis-children-making-monsters/
SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq – When a little boy who looked and sounded American appeared in propaganda video put out by the failing Islamic State this week, threatening “Trump: puppet of the Jews,” it caused a sensation as, of course, it was meant to do.

“How can a group make a child into a monster?” we ask. Yet the answer comes to us in the voices of numerous ISIS defectors and prisoners who tell us precisely how ISIS takes the blank-slate minds of children and fills them with poisonous ideologies alongside dreams of Paradise.

Children are powerful tools in the hands of groups like the so-called Islamic State, as we’ve learned after interviewing 63 ISIS returnees, defectors, and prisoners.

Trained at “Cubs of the Caliphate” camps in both Iraq and Syria, children are indoctrinated to hate—and to kill all others who do not adhere to ISIS’s strict, brutal and intolerant views of Islam. They are also taught to give their own lives in acts of “martyrdom.” \

“I saw them train young kids to blow things up. From my camp, 15-year-and-younger kids went on bombing missions. They tell us they are going to go to Paradise,” 15-year-old Syrian Ibn Omar told researchers for the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism.

Ibn Omar ran off to join ISIS at age 13 after having his head filled with dreams from the preachers who took over his mosque when ISIS overran his region. Impoverished and young enough to be drawn in, Ibn Omar was motivated by the income he could bring home to his unsuspecting parents, and the promises of cars and other material rewards.

In the first days, the “brothers” also appeared to be “real Muslims,” preaching the “real Islam.” Little did he know.

“I liked them [ISIS] a lot in the beginning, but later…They taught us about God, the Prophet and our religion. We spent just one month training at the camp. It was military training, not compassionate at all.” (The classic Muslim invocation is to Allah the Compassionate, the Merciful).

“A lot of the training was with weapons,” said Omar. “If you get distracted when you’re holding a real weapon they will put your finger in the barrel of the rifle and almost break it. Some of the kids were 13 to15.

Children drawn into the Cubs of the Caliphate camps serve many purposes for ISIS. Some are trained as propagandists and used in face-to-face preaching in the region, as well as in videos sent out both to the West and to their own constituents. This was the newest ISIS video of 10-year-old Yusuf, the purported son of an American soldier now threatening the U.S. in ISIS’s latest release of a few days ago.

Abu Firas, an Iraqi media emir imprisoned in Baghdad, as well as many defectors from Raqqa, told ICSVE about how ISIS films all its battles, makes video interviews with its subjects, and videos all their heinous terrorist acts to use later for recruitment and propaganda purposes.

Abu Firas, who was responsible for supplying the media arm of ISIS in the southern Baghdad region, told us ISIS sets up TV screens in its territories where children and adults can sit –theater style –to view the various feats of ISIS, including those where children behead ISIS prisoners or go to their deaths driving suicide vehicles into enemy lines.

Claims of ISIS spreading the glories of Islam, winning over so-called “infidels” and sacrificing their own lives to move immediately to Paradise are powerful recruiting tools for young minds still unable to understand completely concepts like death, the nuances of religious interpretations and the afterlife. Part of the goal is to raise an army of children who are easily and cynically sacrificed.

Soldiers from a another jihadi faction that had been on the front lines against ISIS told us they were terrified of children carrying explosive-filled backpacks. They could never be sure, and rather than mistakenly shoot an innocent, these battle-hardened men fled their posts.

Similarly all of the former ISIS soldiers who spoke to us told us that ISIS has lines of warriors in battle, the first line always consisting of young people who either race into enemy lines driving bomb-rigged vehicles, or adult cadres, who wear suicide vests intending to explode themselves rather than surrender. After all, the slogan of ISIS, taken from the Chechen rebels who joined, is “Victory or Paradise!”

They believe they win either way, in life or in death.

The dark side of the victory story is that these children can be as young as six, and ISIS is more than willing to destroy their lives. According to ISIS cadres we interviewed, some are exploded remotely. Others are cynically instructed, “Push the button and you will immediately go to Paradise.” Some are even offered sedatives to calm them in their missions.

Speaking to Abu Islam, an ISIS emir in prison in Sulaymaniyah, we learned that ISIS doesn’t view young boys in the same manner as most cultures, with theirown definition of a man, whatever the age—which means a child as young as seven can be viewed as an adult man.

“We don’t have any age limit,” Abu Islam told us. “Instead we believe that when a man’s semen develops, then he’s considered a grown-up man. We only take them when they get to that point.”

Yet when Abu Islam was shown Ibn Omar’s video clip he hung his head in shame and admitted the cherubic faces of children proudly carrying ISIS flags in the video were not men.

“We were wrong,” he admitted as we discussed how ISIS manipulates children into becoming killers.

Manipulating sacred scriptures already revered, and well known, by believers is a powerful tactic that groups like al Qaeda and ISIS have learned to rely on in their recruitment of naïve and earnest believers.

Everyone we spoke to — from ISIS returnees and cadres in Europe, the Balkans, and Central Asia — had joined ISIS and its affiliates because they had come to believe in the ISIS dream of creating a new world governance with justice, dignity, security and inclusion for Muslims — Sunni Muslims in particular, in Iraq and Syria and beyond.

This is the dream that ISIS peddles over the Internet and through its face-to-face recruitment.

Indeed, although most of the defectors and prisoners had become disillusioned with the corruption, brutality and un-Islamic character they experienced inside ISIS, they often held fast to this dream. ISIS knows that through the media, the amplifying power of videos of children — particularly, and the newly released video of 10-year-old Yusuf, who purportedly traveled with his mother to join ISIS two years ago and who claims he is the son of an American soldier who fought in Iraq.

An ISIS child threatening Donald Trump and repeating the oft-claimed ISIS mantra—that the battle will move to the West—garners widespread attention because it’s an innocent involved in brutality, the son of an American denouncing our own country. When this same child describes the constant airstrikes against ISIS, he also hits a sympathetic note—we all know that children unfortunately become both the pawns of terrorists and the victims in our battles against them.

Whether we look at the body of three-year-old Alan Kurdi on the shores of the Mediterranean, 7-year-old Julian Cadman who died on Las Ramblas in Barcelona, or the children unwittingly killed in aerial attacks against ISIS, our hearts are conflicted. All these children are the victims of violence. Videos of ISIS-indoctrinated children both horrify and tug at our heartstrings.

Ibn Omar was next in line for a suicide attack and only stopped by his parents when he took a home leave and shared his “glorious task” with them. They immediately forced him to flee ISIS and enter Turkey. Ibn Omar was so convinced by the ISIS claims that he told us that it took over a year away from the group before he felt the brainwashing of ISIS ideologies left him completely.

Abu Islam, the Iraqi ISIS emir, also tells us how successful they were in indoctrinating children into the “martyrdom” ideology teaching them that giving up their own lives to kill others would gain them a place in Paradise. “There is an office. If anyone volunteers … ‘I want to my give my bayat [pledge],’ then he signs up for a martyrdom mission at the same time. It’s like a regular recruiting process,” he says.

In regard to the ISIS training camps with a steady stream of explosive-rigged cars being made to put the children into, to send them to their deaths at checkpoints and the frontlines, he says: “They instruct them. They know what will happen. They’re happy. It’s like a kid at Christmas. You know how happy they are? Calmly happy, knowing something good is going to happen.”

Referring to the joyful expectations of children and young people anticipating their final journey to Paradise, Abu Islam says, “They have a list of serial numbers and names. If I’m set to go next, then I’m next. If something changes the order and they aren’t sent, they start crying. If they aren’t the next one, they actually cry and get angry, and even complain, ‘My name is set to go!’ I’ve seen this with my own eyes.” Abu Islam’s own eyes were shining in admiration for the zeal of these youth that he helped to indoctrinate.

When it comes to killing, we also need to understand that ISIS is a command and control organization. Not all young people, or even adults, who go to “martyr” themselves wish to do so. Inside ISIS, orders are from the top and are not to be defied. Once in, there are no more choices to be made.

Attempting to escape ends in beheading for males, being sent back to Raqqa for females. “We were supposed to just obey,” Syrian ISIS defector Abu Abdullah explains. “If they tell you to slay others, you have to do it. Even if they tell you to behead your own father you have to do it. Whatever the sheikh tells you to do, you have to do it. When we hear the order, we have to execute it.”

According to defectors, children who were ordered to kill were often horrified, but knew that they had no choice. Follow orders and kill, or be killed. As Ibn Omar described one of his friends who was summoned, like many youths are, to carry out a beheading, “They picked him up in a truck and told him he was going to execute an infidel. He took the zarqawiya [knife] with him, and they led him to the prisoner. The person’s hands are tied, so he pulled his hair back, and sawed across his neck until he was beheaded.”

The groupthink of ISIS and their social coercion, backed up by brutal punishments, silenced any dissenters. “Some people felt upset deep down, but they wouldn’t say anything, Ibn Omar explains. If someone was executed, everyone would act happy and shout ‘Allahu-Akbar!’ They couldn’t say they were upset, or that it wasn’t right.”

“I was upset,” Ibn Omar admits.

For defectors like Ibn Omar, witnessing violence and injustices began to undermine sharia training from teachers who manipulated Islam to justify the brutality of the group.

In Iraq, the government estimates that half a million young people lived under or served ISIS. It may be even more in Syria. Now these children are returning to schools that were decimated by ISIS. Some spent two or more years in ISIS schools where learning to kill and behead and taking on the ISIS ideology was central to their curriculum. It’s a huge job to reintegrate these children back into society.

At the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism, we hope that raising the voices of ISIS insiders may be one way of smashing the ISIS illusion. Justice, dignity, security and inclusion in society are the tasks of good governance and are needed to put an end to ISIS terrorism, but as the struggle to achieve these larger goals continues at a slower pace than most would like, we work at breaking the ISIS brand—using insiders to tell the truth about ISIS.

“I lost my country…Everything,” Ibn Omar says while wiping away tears. “I would tell all the children of the world—I would tell them not to join this organization. This organization is not Muslim, they’re the infidels. They slaughter innocent people. And that they are not here for real jihad. They are just here for the money. And whoever joins them cannot leave. They pretend to be Muslim but they just teach people to blow themselves up and tell you that you’re going to Paradise—but none of it is true. I would tell them not to join this organization.”

ISIS Encourages Attacks on US Hurricane Relief Centers

Relief from Hurricane Harvey in Houston

ISIS is encouraging its members to attack Hurricane Harvey relief centers in Houston. A social media post by the terror group and quoted by Newsweek reads:
“To all the (lone mujahids) in the U.S. (warrior), pop down to Houston and drop in at any of the relief centers housing displaced people from the Houston floods, make sure to bring lots of supplies/gadgets/toys to see if you can help put any (unbeliever) out of their misery.”
One analyst quoted by CNBC says that “these posts appear to be more aspirational than operational, with hopes that their followers would then act on calls for attacks. Incidents involving lone wolf attackers have demonstrated the potential danger, lethality and effectiveness of a rehearsed small arms or knife attack that can be carried out by a single individual with little or no training. It also underscores the potentially higher consequences of an assault attack involving multiple operatives.”
An alert put out by Homeland Security in Florida warns police officers to “maintain situational awareness of their surroundings.”
ISIS jihadis not only view centers set up for those displaced by the recent hurricanes as ripe for attack opportunities, they also view the devastation wreaked by the storms as divine retribution by Allah.
Ahmed Mansour, an Egyption journalist for the Qatari-based Al Jazeera channel, wrote that Hurricane Irma was a “display of God’s greatness which many dare to deny.”
On Facebook, Mansour posted a picture of cars backed up on a Florida highway driven by people evacuating from the hurricane with the caption, “The grand escape from Florida…20 million American running away in fear of hurricane Irma which is wiping out everything in its wake.” He added the verse from the Quran, “and He will show you His signs, and what signs of Allah will you deny?”
After tremendous backlash, Mansour removed the post.

Trump Signs Iran Sanctions Waiver Despite Concerns

The Trump Administration signed waivers for sanctions against Iran that were agreed as part of then-president Barack Obama’s landmark nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic. The sanctions were due to “snap back” into place if President Donald Trump did not agree to sign off on the waivers by September 14.
However, at the same time as the president signed the waivers, the Treasury Department placed sanctions on 11 Iran-linked individuals and companies, accusing them of “cyber-attacks and proliferation,” according to ABC News.
Trump slammed Tehran for failing to keep to the spirit of the nuclear deal, BBC News reported.
“The Iran deal is one of the worst deals I’ve ever seen, certainly at a minimum the spirit of the deal is atrociously kept,” the president said. “The Iran deal is not a fair deal to this country. It’s a deal that should not have ever been made.”
The nuclear deal was signed in 2015 between Iran and the P5+1, consisting of the five permanent members of the U.N. security council (the United States, China, the UK, France and Russia) and Germany. The deal saw the world powers remove sanctions on Iran in exchange for assurances that the nuclear program would remain for civilian purposes and would be subject to certain restrictions.
In April, Trump ordered a review of lifting sanctions on Iran to determine whether or not it was in U.S. interests to do so.

Richard Higgins
Richard Higgins (Photo: video screenshot)
A top official at the National Security Council (NSC) was fired for a memo he wrote warning about the dangers of radical Islam and its alliance with the radical left.
Rich Higgins, who was formerly with the Pentagon, worked as the director of strategic planning for the NSC until his untimely departure.
Part of his lengthy memo stated:
“Globalists and Islamists recognize that for their visions to succeed, America, both as an ideal and as a national and political identity, must be destroyed…Islamists ally with cultural Marxists…[but] Islamists will co-opt the movement in its entirety…
“Because the left is aligned with Islamist organizations at local, national, and international levels, recognition should be given to the fact that they seamlessly interoperate through coordinated synchronized interactive narratives…
“These attack narratives are pervasive, full spectrum, and institutionalized at all levels. They operate in social media, television, the 24-hour news cycle in all media and are entrenched at the upper levels of the bureaucracies.”
The Atlantic reported Higgins also “pushed for declassification of documents having to do with radical Islam and Iran,” citing a source close to the White House.
One such document, called the “Presidential Study Directive,” allegedly warned in 2010 about the upcoming Arab Spring and detailed the Obama Administration’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist organizations.
Lamenting the lack of education given to government officials about radical Islam, Higgins previously wrote, “National Security officials are prohibited from developing a factual understanding of Islamic threat doctrines, preferring instead to depend upon 5th column Muslim Brotherhood cultural advisors.”

A young British man was arrested in the UK after returning from Syria where he went to fight against Islamic State, The Guardian reported.
He was held for questioning under the UK Terrorism Act for suspicion of engaging “in the preparation to fight against Daesch [ISIS]” as well as possessing “articles for terrorist purposes in Iraq/Syria.”
Aiden Aslin, 23 and a former care worker, traveled to Syria twice before in 2015 and 2016 to join the U.S.-backed Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).
The YPG, as well as other Kurdish forces, has garnered the most success to date against ISIS in Iraq. The group is not designated as a terrorist organization and no one has ever been convicted in the UK for association with the group.
When Aslin returned to the UK in 2015, he was arrested and subsequently released on bail.
When the bail was finally lifted and he was cleared of any charges, Aslin said at the time:
“No fighter should have to go through what I went through if it can be avoided. I feel vindicated. I have had nine months of being made to feel like a terrorist.
“I should never have been arrested. I should never have spent any time on bail. I should have been interviewed for any intelligence I might hold on ISIS and allowed to go free.”
Aslin also called for “a coherent national policy so that people know what they are coming back to.”
On this trip after his stint with the YPG, he traveled from Syria to Greece where he stayed for three months teaching English at a Kurdish refugee camp, fearing the same experience.

Memphis Imam Linked to Terror Financing

Yasir Qadhi

A Memphis imam has been reportedly raising money for an Islamic charity in America and worldwide that has been linked to terror funding.
Since 2012, extremist preacher Yasir Qadhi has been active speaking at events for Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) as well as its American branch Islamic Relief-USA (IRUSA).
IRW also received $370,000 in federal funding between 2015 and 2016.
Last week, Representative Ron DeSantis (R-FL), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, introduced an amendment to the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Act to block U.S. funding to the organization.
“U.S. tax dollars cannot go to groups involved in funding terrorism. Any group tied to Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood should be ineligible for funding. It is a slap in the face of the American taxpayer to allow such groups to receive federal funding,” DeSantis said.
IRW, which operates 16 affiliates and is based in the UK, is the largest Islamic charity in the West and has a long history of links to terrorism.

The Bipartisan Policy Research Center has just released a new report assessing the impact of the war on terror. Entitled Defeating Terrorists, Not Terrorism: An Assessment of U.S. Counterterrorism Policy From 9/11 to ISIS, it looks at successes, failures and what we’ve learned in the 16 years since 9/11. Authored by a group of high-level policymakers from across the political spectrum, it outlines how a military solution is not enough and an ideological component is necessary for victory.

It was put together by their task force on terrorism and ideology and chaired by Governor Thomas H. Keane, former chair of the 9/11 Commission, and Representative Lee Hamilton, former vice chair of the 9/11 Commission.
Here are the top five takeaways:

1.Jihadis are recruiting as fast as the U.S. military can kill them. The report says “despite estimates that U.S. forces have killed at least 60,000 ISIS fighters, the U.S. government believes the group has as almost as many members now (15,000, according to the State Department) as it did in 2014 (20,000, according to the CIA).” It’s not just ISIS either, al-Qaeda and other jihadist groups have been heavily recruiting despite counter-terror successes.
2. The U.S. has done serious damage to international terror networks.

In a stunning reversal from his campaign rhetoric, President Donald Trump declined to mention radical Islam on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, as did the vice president, secretary of defense and attorney general.
The omissions were first noticed by Breitbart, which pointed out that Attorney-General Jeff Sessions came closest to using the terminology by stating that the terrorists sought to “impose their speech codes, their religion, their theocracy.”
In his speech at the Republican convention accepting the party’s presidential nomination, Trump mentioned the Islamic basis of the jihadist threat four times. During the presidential campaign, Trump regularly attacked Hillary Clinton for declining to use the term “radical Islam.”
By omitting any mention of Islamism or jihad, the Trump Administration’s language is even closer to that of the Obama Administration than Hillary Clinton, who defined the enemy as “jihadists.” President Obama refused to use any terminology associated with Islam at all.
The change represents a big triumph for National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, who fought tooth-and-nail against any Islam-themed language and pushes policies that are incompatible with the Trump Administration’s original stated vision.
McMaster won a power struggle within the White House and was reportedly the main force pushing out the most anti-Islamist voices in the Trump Administration, with chief strategist Steve Bannon and Deputy Assistant Sebastian Gorka his most prized scalps.
When he formally resigned, Gorka noted radical Islam was not anywhere to be found in Trump’s speech on his strategy for Afghanistan. In his resignation letter, Gorka wrote that the omission “proves that a crucial element of your presidential campaign has been lost.”
Likewise, Bannon said, “No administration in history has been so divided.”
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson responded to Gorka by saying he’s “completely wrong” and has “a lack of understanding of the president’s broader policy.”

The FBI is hunting an 20-year-old man from St. Louis Park, Minnesota, believed to have joined Islamic State in Syria.

Two years ago, the Al-Madioum family was vacationing in Morocco when their son Abdelhamid disappeared. For the previous few days he’d appeared agitated and was busier than usual on his phone.

Please see our guide on looking for signs of extremism in your children

Al-Madioum booked a flight to Istanbul from where he crossed into Syria to join ISIS.

When FBI agents searched Al-Madioum’s bedroom they discovered various personal effects that led them to believe he was radicalized. The Star Tribune believes material seized by the FBI suggests Al-Madioum was in electronic contact with ISIS recruiters.

While the FBI is not commenting on the investigation, Al-Madioum reportedly called his family a few days after their return to the States from Morocco. He told them he was working in a hospital in Mosul, Iraq.

There are currently at least five other open cases in Minnesota, according to the Star Tribune.

Millions of dollars of aid money bound for Syrian child refugees has vanished, says Human Rights Watch (HRW).
A large chunk of that is likely to be from American taxpayers and others in the West.

The money, pledged in 2016, was bound for schoolchildren living in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, but much of it never arrived, came late or remains untraceable because of “poor reporting practices.”

What is not clear from HRW’s 55-page report is whether the donor states paid out the money in full or whether some of the cash simply disappeared en route.

More than half-a-million children had no schooling last year in large part because there was insufficient money available to pay for their education.

“The US Agency for International Development reported that it provided development aid of US$248 million for education in Jordan, but its own aid tracking database only accounted for US$82 million, and a Jordanian government database listed only US$13 million received for education from the US in 2016,” the HRW report states.

And that is just one example.
Human Rights Watch suggests much of the money pledged is simply not paid but also points to the lack of cohesive accounting of the entire system, including governments, aid agencies and others.
“Despite global concern about Syrian refugee children, it is still impossible to find answers to basic questions about whether their key educational needs are being met,” said Simon Rau, Mercator, a fellow at HRW. “Donors should fix the transparency deficit that is undercutting their own support for Syrian children, who cannot afford to wait any longer to get back into school.”
Criticisms leveled at the U.S., European donors and the process in general include:
Lack of consistent, detailed and timely reporting
Lack of information about the projects donors are funding and their timing
Inconsistent information about school enrollment, which makes it difficult to assess progress
Inconsistent education targets and goals set by donors and host countries

Social media giant Facebook is increasing its crackdown on what it perceives as hateful content. The company is hiring an additional 3,000 content reviewers to monitor the site, according to the New York Post.
“There is absolutely no place on Facebook for hate speech or content that promotes violence or terrorism,” Senior Vice-President for Global Marketing Solutions Carolyn Everson said, announcing the decision.
“As soon as we determine that content has breached our community standards, we remove it. With a community as large as Facebook, however, zero tolerance cannot mean zero occurrence.”
Germany recently passed a new law which would fine social media companies $60 million if they fail to remove hate speech.
Facebook is also overhauling its advertising policy. It will change which companies can advertise on its site and which can make money. The new standards will apply to ads in which content matters.
The new rules and increased vigilance could impact many outlets which discuss Islam in a critical way. They may also see Islamist extremists and those advocating violence against Muslims facing tougher challenges in getting their message out.

Why Radical Islam Isn’t a Partisan Issue
BY MEIRA SVIRSKY Wednesday, September 6, 2017
Identity politics has pushed us to relate to issues in black and white terms. Gone are the grey areas that most often define life, the stuff from which true moral clarity is built.
One of the most irrational consequences of this current state of our national polity is the pressure to “take sides” in the fight against radical Islam.
Yet, Islamist terrorists do not differentiate their bullets, aiming only at their conservative/Republican detractors while sparing their liberal/Democratic enablers.
(In an ironic admission of this reality, the left-wing, pro-immigrant government of Austria is currently building concrete-enforced security wall around their government buildings to stave off suicide truck bombings.)
So, why has radical Islam become a partisan issue? Although psychologists have shown us that human beings have the capacity to live with enormous amounts of cognitive dissonance, the truth is that under a sharia regime – as envisioned by both violent and non-violent Islamists—freedoms that liberals take for granted (freedom of speech, religion, press and political protest, not to mention gender equality) would be taken away.
Yet, living under sharia law, with all its totalitarian trappings, is the self-declared Utopian dream of Islamists supported by the left — from CAIR (the Council on American Islamic Relations) to Linda Sarsour to Hamas and ISIS (even though many sharia-proponents would disagree with ISIS’ vision of a sharia society).
There are a number of factors that have contributed to this partisan divide.

Church & State — Is There Really a Separation?
BY MEIRA SVIRSKY Tuesday, September 5, 2017
(Illustrative photo: Flickr/Ben McLeod)
Separation of church and state is a much-touted, constitutionally-guaranteed principle on which America was built
But was it? Upon closer examination, one finds that the line of the law is not so clear.
These fuzzy lines can make adjudicating on current issues where sharia (Islamic) law and American law are at odds not only difficult, but extremely controversial.
As more and cases are brought to U.S. courts that address the religious beliefs of Muslims, it is worth looking at this foundational principle of U.S. law.
Here are some recent and interesting cases involving the clash between lslamic principles and U.S. law involving cases of employee rights, inheritance and spousal abuse.
Background
The actual words “separation of church and state” do not appear in the constitution. Rather, they represent a general principle – one could say, an interpretation – of the famous “Establishment Clause” of the First Amendment which states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”
That same amendment ensures there is no prohibition on the free exercise of one’s religion.

4 Shouts of ‘Allahu Akbar’ – Then What Happened?
Home > World > Italy > 4 Shouts of ‘Allahu Akbar’ – Then What Happened?
BY MEIRA SVIRSKY Sunday, September 3, 2017
(Illustrative photo: Reuters)
A man who stormed a funeral in a church in Malta shouting “Allahu Akbar” had some of the charges against him reduced after his lawyer claimed he was praying for the deceased, The Independent reported.
The man, a 29-year old from the Ivory Coast, was originally charged with breaching the public peace, public intoxication, and threatening and insulting the police.
At his trial, the latter two charges were dropped. The man pleaded guilty to the other charge and agreed to return immediately to Italy.
The court then agreed to a conditional discharge of two years, meaning that after two years, the conviction will be wiped from his record.
The mayor of Venice announced that anyone who shouts “Allahu Akbar” in the city’s famous St. Mark’s Square will be shot “after taking three steps.”
Last year, the controversial mayor said four steps. Now he is down to three.
Speaking at a conference about extremism in the city of Rimini, Mayor Luigi Brugnaro admitted his decision is controversial, saying, “I have never been politically correct, I am incorrect. I would shoot, we would shoot.
“They said they wanted to go and meet Allah, so we will send them straight to Allah, without having to throw them off the bridge. We will just shoot them.”
Brugnaro added, “In contrast with Barcelona, where they had not set up protection, we keep our guard up.”
A man who attacked police officers outside Buckingham Palace with a sword while repeatedly shouting “Allahu Akbar” was charged with terrorism, Breitbart reported.
Mohiussunnath Choudhury, a 26-year-old Uber driver, first tried to run the officers over with a car. He then drew a four-foot sword when approached by the unarmed officers.
A man from Belgium shouting “Allahu Akbar” and warning there was a bomb on a plane caused panic in his fellow travelers.
The 51-year-old man was arrested and eight friends who were traveling with him on a Ryanair flight from Madrid to Brussels were thrown off the plane. All were thought to have been drunk.
Passengers were evacuated while a bomb squad searched the plane.

Court Case: Saudis Funded 9/11 Dry Run

Lawyers representing families of 1,400 of the 9/11 victims say Saudi Arabia may have funded a dry run for the terror attack.
The legal team claims the Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C. paid for two undercover Saudis to fly from Phoenix to the capital as part of “a pattern of both financial and operational support.”
Using FBI documentation, the team claims Hamdan al-Shalawi and Mohammed al-Qudhaeein were Saudi agents operating on U.S. soil. Trained by al-Qaeda, the pair were in contact with one of the 9/11 hijackers.
During their flight from Phoenix on board an American West jet the pair is said to have tried on numerous occasions to enter the cockpit.
“After they boarded the plane in Phoenix, they began asking the flight attendants technical questions about the flight that the flight attendants found suspicious,” reads a summary of the FBI case files.

A U.S. citizen from Maryland who went to Somalia and joined the Islamist terror organization Al Shabaab was brought to face charges in a U.S. court.
Maalik Alim Jones, 32, left his wife in the U.S. and traveled to Kenya in 2011. From there he made his way to Somalia, where he immediately joined Al Shabaab. Jones received military training from the brutal group, including how to operate an AK-47 and rocket-propelled grenades, according to a news release put out by the U.S. Justice Department.
Jones was highly successful in the terror group and was promoted to join a special unit. While with that unit, he participated in operations attacking Kenyan soldiers.
In court, Jones said, “I knew that my actions were a violation of the laws of the United States.”
“Jones pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to al Shabaab, by traveling abroad to join and fight on behalf of the foreign terrorist organization for four years,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Dana Boente. “I want to thank the many prosecutors, agents, and analysts who made this result possible.”
“As he admitted in court today, Maalik Jones traveled to Somalia, was trained by al Shabaab in the use of an AK-47 and rocket-propelled grenades and took up arms for four years as a terrorist fighter,” said New York Acting Attorney Joon Kim. “For his allegiance to this lawless, terrorist organization that vows to destroy America and its values, Maalik Jones been held to account in an American court of law. All that is left is for him to be sentenced for his crimes.”
Taking all his crimes together, Jones could face a lifetime in prison.

Last week we asked you what should be done with a convoy of hundreds of ISIS fighters and their families that fled fighting and was stuck in the Syrian desert, halted by the U.S.-led coalition.
Below we tell you what happened in reality but first here are you answers and comments:
1.5% said they should be allowed to disperse after questioning.
19.9% were of the opinion women and children should be free to go but all men arrested.
32.5% maintained the entire group should stand trial.
29.1% said the entire group should be incarcerated without trial.
17% said it’s nothing to do with the West. Let the Syrians sort this out themselves.

Pro-Islam Indoctrination in Public Schools?

BY MEIRA SVIRSKY Monday, August 28, 2017
From a cartoon depicting the ‘Five Pillars of Islam’ (Photo: video screenshot)
Access Islam
Parents across the U.S. have objected to a Department of Education program called “Access Islam.” The federally-funded program is directed at children from grades 5-12 and is also featured on various websites, including PBS Learning Media.

The Smithsonian also promotes the course as does the Indiana Department of Education and the United Nations.

Parents charge that the course amounts to nothing less than proselytizing about Islam in public schools. In addition, they note that the Department of Education provides no comparable study or promotion of any other religion.

A video from the course prominently features a Christian convert to Islam, who declares emotionally how he has found the true religion without any “intermediaries.”
In addition to videos, students are given worksheets to learn the Five Pillars of Islam and how to pray. Children are also expected to memorize verses from the Quran and know the meaning of those verses.

Maryland
As part of the school’s “World History” curriculum, high school students in Maryland were taught extensively about Islam — without any context of current events — and required to list the benefits of the religion.
In one homework assignment obtained by a news outlet, the question was asked: “How did Muslim conquerors treat those they conquered?” The correct answer was, “With tolerance, kindness and respect.”

Christian Beaten to Death by Muslim Classmates
https://clarionproject.org/christian-teenager-beaten-death-muslim-classmates/
BY CLARION PROJECT Sunday, September 3, 2017
Sharoon Masih
A 17-year old Christian boy in Pakistan was beaten to death in Pakistan by his fellow Muslim students in their classroom, reported the British Pakistani Christian Association.
A gifted intellect and head of his class, Sharoon Masih was the only Christian student in his grade. He had faced isolation and bullying from the first day he entered the school in Verahi District in Punjab.
His mother said he was warned from the beginning not to mix with the Muslims at school, with one fellow classmate saying, “You’re a Christian. Don’t dare sit with us if you want to live.”
Repeated attempts were made to convert Sharoon, but he refused. His family reported that he used his isolation to concentrate on his studies and reached the top of his class – a position which infuriated his fellow students even more.
“Sharoon and I cried every night as he described the daily torture he was subjected to,” related his mother. “He only told me about the abuse and violence he was facing. He did not want to upset his father because he had such a caring heart for others.”
Sharoon’a father, a laborer at a brick kiln had saved money to send his gifted son to the best school in the area.

While the instigator of the beating was been arrested, many other boys took part in the murder remain at large as witnesses to the horrific beating refuse to come forward.
There are varying reports about why no teachers stopped the fight. Initial reports out of the classroom allege the teacher ignored the fight. Others say it occurred between classes when the teacher was not present. Still, there was no teacher at the school that responded to the noise of the melee.
The headmaster of the school was dismissed, but to date, all the teachers remain in their positions.
“Christians are despised and detested in Pakistan they are a constant target for persecution,” said Wilson Chowdhry, chair of the British Pakistani Christian Association.
“This killing of a young Christian teenager at school serves only to remind us that hatred towards religious minorities is bred into the majority population at a young age, through cultural norms and a biased national curriculum. However by no means is such treatment an anomaly – it is an expectation that Christians will face abuse and violence during the years in the educational system.”

Choudary charged that culpability for the crime goes all the way to the Pakistani government, which has failed to remove materials with the national curriculum that teaches and reinforces this attitude toward Christians.

Notably, the curriculum was flagged by the United States Commission for International Freedom as a potential bar to foreign aid.
“Such poor governance has inculcated generations of Pakistani citizens with false stereotypes that undermine the basic human rights of the non-Muslims in their midst,” Choudary said. “This mis-education has reciprocally also made Muslims more susceptible to the hate ideology espoused by the many rogue Imams following hardline sects of Islam.
“Sharoon was bright and intelligent young boy who had a potentially good future has now been killed. Yet once again in Pakistan, the debate is not on who is culpable but who is not culpable of a most heinous crime.”
The association is calling on the Pakistani government to reform of the educational system to remove the biases which openly demonize minorities. To sign the petition, click here. http://www.getpetition.com/petitions/equality-in-pak-schools

Death Threats to Palestinian Woman Filmmaker

BY CLARION PROJECT Monday, September 4, 2017
From the movie "In Between"
From the movie “In Between” (Photo:video screenshot)
A ground-breaking Palestinian film has garnered death threats for its director as well as the actors who star in the film.

In Between follows the life of three young Palestinian women sharing an apartment in Tel Aviv — away from the watchful eyes of their families.
In an interview with the BBC, 35-year-old director Maysaloun Hamoud, said she expected some backlash about the film, “but I didn’t know how big it would be.”
The film follows three women – a liberal lawyer, an aspiring DJ who is a lesbian and a religious cousin.
Hamoud, the daughter of Palestinians, grew up in Budapest but now lives in Jaffa, Israel. “Palestine has a young cinema and there are not a lot of genres here yet,” she said. “I think there was actually a lot of confusion here when the film first appeared as to whether it was a documentary or a fiction film…characters like this haven’t appeared in Palestinian cinema before.”

The film includes the underground Palestinian scene in Israel and features nightclubs, drugs and homosexuality.
“I knew when I started to write these characters that it could not be passed by, but I did not expect the extent of the reaction,” said Hamoud, relating to the level of violence to which she has been threatened because of the film.
After the film was declared haram (forbidden), the death threats began. However, once the initial weeks passed, which Hamoud described as “scary,” she realized “there is no such thing as bad publicity.”
The commotion increased interest in the film, which had a successful run in the cinemas.
Acknowledging the characters “represent the things that we have never talked about in our society before,” Hamoud admitted she “wanted to take provocative action, we need to shake things up and see different things on screen. If we keep making things that people think they want to see, then it’s not art, it’s not cinema.”
Hamoud views her job as an artist to develop society, which to her means changing reality. “The essence of an artist is to bring change,” she said. “All three characters represent huge amounts of invisible women, women who have never had their voices raised before in cinema from this part of the world. Finally, the film has made people talk about it and I’m glad.”
The film is nominated for 12 Ophir awards (Israel’s Oscars) and Hamoud given the best young talent award by the Women in Motion movement at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The terror threat in the United Kingdom is at unprecedented levels, according to British and European experts charged with leading the fight against jihadis in Europe.

Gilles de Kerchove (Photo: Council of the European Union)
There are as many as 35,000 “radicals” in the UK, according to European counter-terrorism coordinator Gilles de Kerchove.

“Of these, 3,000 are worrying for MI5, and of those, 500 are under constant and special attention,” he said.

De Kerchove put the number of extremists in Europe in excess of 50,000.

“We must select those who are really worrying and the most dangerous, and they should be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” he told El Mundo, a leading Spanish newspaper.
Ben Wallace MP (Photo: Wiki Commons)
This rise in the threat level follows the order from ISIS for homegrown jihadis not to travel to Iraq and Syria but rather carry out attacks on home soil, said Security Minister Ben Wallace in an interview with Sky News.
Meanwhile, Max Hill, who advises the UK government on counter-terrorism issues, called for tougher sentencing including for the families and friends of terrorists who fail to pass on information to security authorities.
Max Hill QC (Video screenshot)
“With the benefit of experience and hindsight it may be the case that some offenses have insufficient discretionary maximum sentences, which should be reviewed,” Hill told the Press Association.

At the same time as these experts were speaking out against the threat, the British media reports Britain will allow in to the country an extremist Islamist preacher who called for the destruction of the UK.
The imam of Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque, Ekrima Sabri, is part of a delegation slated to visit the UK on September 11.
In a radio sermon in 2001 – the year of 9/11 – he called on “Allah, destroy the US, its helpers and its agents. Allah, destroy Britain, its helpers and its agents. Allah, prepare those who will unite the Muslims and march in the steps of Saladin.”

Should the U.S. Cancel the Iran Deal?

Will President Donald Trump, yet again, verify that Iran is in compliance with the nuclear agreement it made in 2015 with world powers?
While running for president, Trump heavily criticized then-president Barack Obama for making such a flawed deal, yet has bowed to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and the State Department twice certifying (as required by law every 90 days) that Iran is in compliance with the agreement.

The next certification must be made in October, but, as former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton argues, there is no need to wait until October to abrogate the deal.

That Iran is in non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal is a given. As outlined by Fred Fleitz, a national security expert who spent 25 years working for the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the State Department and the House Intelligence Committee, Iran is in non-compliance in four ways:
Operating more advanced uranium-enrichment centrifuges than is permitted and announcing the capability to initiate mass production of centrifuges
Exceeding limits on production and storage of heavy water, a substance needed to operate plutonium-producing heavy-water nuclear reactors
Covertly procuring nuclear and missile technology outside of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA-) approved channels
Refusing to allow IAEA inspectors access to nuclear-research and military facilities.
Bolton rightly points out that under the Ian Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015, the president must certify (among other points) that:
Iran is transparently and fully implementing the agreement
Iran has not committed a material breach of the agreement (or at least has corrected such a breach if made)
Iran is not engaging in activities that could significantly advance its nuclear weapons program
The agreement is vital to the national security interests of the United States.
John Bolton
John Bolton
It is this last point that Bolton concentrates on in his recently-published proposal called Abrogating the Iran Deal: The Way Forward.

Two Leading Muslim Voices Condemn Political Islam, Extremism

Power on chalkboard
Two leading voices from very different parts of the Muslim world have separately gone on the record to condemn political Islam, violence and radical clerics.
Speaking on TV (and translated by MEMRI), Kuwaiti journalist Abd Al-Aziz Alqenaei called for separation of religion and state and accused political Islam of defending tyranny:
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, urged Muslims to reclaim Islam from extremists.
Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Abubakar not only spoke out against violence but also ideological indoctrination.
Parents must be careful when exposing their children to preachers. The Daily Trust reported him as saying children can easily “falling victims of indoctrination, warning that poisonous ideas are as destructive as a bomb.”
He also attacked those politicians who use religious sentiments to gain power.

EXCLUSIVE From Iraq: Push to Kurdish Independence
Home > World > Iran > EXCLUSIVE From Iraq: Push to Kurdish Independence
BY ZACH HUFF Thursday, August 31, 2017
Kurds for independence demonstrate outside the UN in Erbil (Photo: SAFIN HAMED/AFP/Getty Images)
ERBIL, Iraq — Just an hour drive from the smoldering ruins of Mosul — until recently Islamic State’s Iraq stronghold — the Kurdish city of Erbil is a bustling, modern metropolis untouched by war. After a decisive role in turning back ISIS, the Kurds stand at yet another precipice as they gamble on an independence referendum next month, risking instability or even conflict with Baghdad and Iran.
Though Kurdistan already feels like a different country from Iraq, visitors arriving to the Kurdish capital are confronted with little evidence of a momentous and historic Kurdish march to statehood.
Aside from a few vinyl banners, TV spots, car decals and a new referendum headquarters, one just doesn’t sense the buzz of a new country in the making — nor one in campaign mode, with presidential and parliamentary elections just eight weeks away.
“We have a strong, organic campaign, reflecting the will and the hearts of our people,” a senior advisor to Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, told me.
“It’s the culmination of a decades-long Kurdish struggle for dignity after cycles of genocide, war and a failed partnership with Iraq. Unlike the international community, the public doesn’t need much persuasion,” he assured.
The Kurdistan High Referendum Board announced in recent days that it will open a new office with dedicated staff and engagement programs to turn out supporters.
Compared with Brexit or Scotland, the result isn’t likely to be a nail-biter: Polls suggest a decisive outcome in favor, and 99 percent of Kurds said “yes” in an informal independence vote held in 2005.

An Egyptian court placed 296 Muslim Brotherhood members on a terror list on August 30.

Cairo Criminal Court described the suspects as “hostile.” As a result those on the list current;y residing in Egypt cannot leave the country and may have their assets frozen. Those loving abroad will likely be arrested on their return.

While the Brotherhood is headquartered in Egypt it has operations on at least 80 countries including the United States.

Figures connected to the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood have also been linked more directly to terrorism financing.

In 2008, the Holy Land Foundation was shut down for funneling money to the Palestinian Muslim-Brotherhood-affiliate Hamas.

The trial was the largest terrorism financing trial in American history. Five senior executives of the Holy Land Foundation, at the time the largest Muslim charity in the United States, were convicted of funneling millions of dollars to Hamas. An earlier trial in 2007 was declared a mistrial, and an appellate court upheld the sentences in 2011.

A number of other individuals and organizations, including the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) were listed as unindicted co-conspirators at the Holy Land Foundation trial. CAIR grew out of the Islamic Association for Palestine, a group founded by a Hamas member as a way to support Hamas in the United States.

The designation was upheld by a judge, despite a legal appeal launched by CAIR to have it removed, because of “ample” evidence linking CAIR to Hamas.

The UAE banned CAIR and MAS along with approximately 80 other organizations, including the Muslim Brotherhood itself.

A large number of documents were submitted as evidence in that trial, including an official document from a 1991 meeting outlining the Muslim Brotherhood’s strategic goals for North America.

According to this Explanatory Memorandum, those goals include “establishing an effective and a stable Islamic Movement led by the Muslim Brotherhood which adopts Muslims’ causes domestically and globally, and which works to expand the observant Muslim base, aims at unifying and directing Muslims’ efforts, presents Islam as a civilization alternative, and supports the global Islamic State wherever it is.”

U.S. Muslims Open to Multiple Interpretations of Islam: Poll
Home > Political Islam > In the US > Public Issues > U.S. Muslims Open to Multiple Interpretations of Islam: Poll
BY MEIRA SVIRSKY Tuesday, August 29, 2017
An American Muslim woman
An American Muslim woman (Photo: Reuters)
A majority of Muslims in the U.S. say there is more than one way to interpret Islam and believe traditional understandings of Islam must be reinterpreted to reflect contemporary issues, according to a new Pew Research Center poll.
The poll also surprisingly suggests that being highly religious does not necessarily indicate acceptance of traditional notions of Islam.
In addition, the poll indicates that attendance levels of U.S. Muslims at mosques are comparable to attendance levels of Christians at church services. Also comparable are the percentages of Muslims who say religion is very important in their lives versus the percentage of Christians who say the same thing.
The percentages of U.S. Muslims and Christians who believe there is more than one way to interpret their respective religions is also similar.
Specifically, the poll, found:
43% of U.S. Muslims say they attend mosque at least once a week (compared to 47% of U.S. Christians who say they attend church services at least once a week)
65% of U.S. Muslims say religion is very important in their lives (68% of U.S. Christians say the same)
64% of U.S. Muslims say there is room for multiple interpretations of the teachings of Islam (60% of U.S. Christians say the same thing about Christianity). Of note is that even among Muslims who say that religion is very important in their life, 59% say there is more than one way to interpret the faith.
In addition, a majority of U.S. Muslims polled (52%) say traditional understandings of Islam must be reinterpreted to reflect contemporary issues (versus 38% who maintain that traditional understandings are all that is needed). Even among Muslims who say that religion is very important in their lives, 43% say traditional understandings should be reinterpreted (while 46% say not).
The results of this poll should be heartwarming to Muslim reformers who are oftentimes bullied out of the conversation by vocal and well-funded Muslim Brotherhood-linked (Islamist) front groups like the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and their popular shills like sharia-apologist Linda Sarsour, who has become a darling of the far left and feminists.

An appeals court in Iran upheld the sentence previously handed down to two Iranian-American dual nationals, an elderly father and his son, The New York Times reported.
Baquer Namazi, 81, and his son Siamak, 45, were sentenced last year to 10 years in prison each for “collaborating with an enemy state [the U.S.],” charges that were never detailed.
Siamak was arrested last September, just a short time after the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers was accepted by all parties. His father, a retired official with the United Nations, was arrested in February while visiting his son in jail.
Ironically, Siamak, a businessman, was connected to the National Iranian American Council, a pro-Iranian lobby group in Washington, D.C. He spoke out against U.S. sanctions on Iran and advocated for closer business ties between the countries. He was arrested in October of 2015 while visiting relatives in Iran.
The denial of the Namazis’ appeal comes after the imposition of new sanctions on Iran by the U.S. in recent weeks.

Secrecy Shrouds Weekend Arrest in Michigan

In a case shrouded in secrecy, the FBI blocked a Michigan man from flying to the Middle East. Yousef Mohammad Ramadan, 28, was arrested after the bureau’s counterterrorism unit found a weapons arsenal in a storage unit with which he was connected, The Detroit News reported.
Ramadan, from Ypsilanti, was initially charged with knowingly possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number, a five-year felony, in an unusual weekend arraignment which took place when the court was closed to the public.
There is wide speculation that Ramadan, who worked as a security guard, was planning a terror attack or travelling to commit a terror attack. He was stopped with his wife and children from boarding a Royal Jordan Airlines flight to Amman, Jordan.
The Detroit News notes the prosecutor overseeing the case is Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Tukel, head of the U.S. Attorney’s office’s national security unit, who successfully prosecuted underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. The lead investigator is FBI Special Agent Ryan Schanberger, a member of an elite counterterrorism team which investigated Detroit terror suspect Sebastian Gregerson, who will be sentenced to prison this week.

NY Man Arrested for Attempting to Join ISIS in Syria

BY CLARION PROJECT Wednesday, August 30, 2017
U.S. law enforcement officials were able to track down a young man from Queens after he tried to enter Syria allegedly to join ISIS. He was arrested at JFK airport in New York after being flown back to the U.S.
“Ahmed sought to take up arms with violent terrorists who have killed numerous innocent victims, including Americans,” acting U.S. Attorney Bridget Rohde said. “This office and our law enforcement partners will continue to work tirelessly to arrest and prosecute extremists before they are able to threaten the United States and its allies.”
Anti-terror experts had been following Parveg Ahmed, a 22-year old from Ozone Park, NY. Last month, they obtained a warrant to search his personal computer. They found that he had been listening to radical Islamists such as American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was a top leader in al-Qaeda, as well as Abdullah Faisal, a Jamaican-born cleric, who was convicted in the UK for solicitation to commit murder and radical preaching such as urging the killing of Americans who he called enemies of Islam. Faisal is now awaiting trial in the U.S.

Jerusalem Prayer Facebook Page Brings 28 Million Christians Together to Pray for Israel
By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz August 28, 2017 , 1:30 pm

“Pray for the well-being of Yerushalayim; May those who love you be at peace.” Psalms 122:6 (The Israel Bible™)
Christians attend a multi-faith event in Jerusalem in celebration of the city’s Jubilee. (Michio Nagata)
The Jerusalem Prayer Team, one of Facebook’s largest prayer pages, has just passed a landmark 28 million members. One of the largest social media efforts in fighting anti-Semitism, the Christian-run page is dedicated to praying for the sake of the Jewish people and the peace of Jerusalem.
The page was founded by Mike Evans, a Middle East analyst and award-winning journalist, as part of his multi-pronged defense of Israel. The group organizes regular prayers for the sake of Israel based on the imperative stated in Psalms.
Pray for the well-being of Yerushalayim; May those who love you be at peace. Psalms 122:6
This need was reinforced in the recent white supremacist attack in Charlottesville, which Evans decried as being heavily anti-Semitic.
“It’s Christians, especially in America, who form the firewall against anti-Semitism that so easily creeps into the international social and political conversation,” Evan told Charisma News. “It’s especially encouraging that the younger generation is standing with Israel and employing social media in spreading the message.

Convene an international conference to halt the spread of radical Islam and “take on the ideology of Radical Islam” including “speak[ing] out against the oppression of women, gays and people of different faith”

The president got off to an impressive start in a ground-breaking keynote speech he made four months after his inauguration at the Arab Islamic American Summit held in Saudi Arabia in May 2017.

The summit was true to his promise of convening an international conference to halt the spread of radical Islam.

Trump delivered a bold speech in which he clearly laid out to the heads of Muslim states that they had arrived at a pivotal moment:

It is a choice between two futures – and it is a choice America CANNOT make for you.
A better future is only possible if your nations drive out the terrorists and extremists. Drive. Them. Out. DRIVE THEM OUT of your places of worship.
DRIVE THEM OUT of your communities.
DRIVE THEM OUT of your holy land, and
DRIVE THEM OUT OF THIS EARTH.
In concept and execution, the Trump Administration used the summit to mark a clear U-turn away from the Obama doctrine of embracing Iran at the expense of America’s Sunni Arab allies.
During the trip, Trump inaugurated the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology in Riyadh, more than ironic considering the historical role of Saudi Arabia’s extremist form of Islam, Wahhabism, in fomenting terror and radicalism around the world.
Work “side by side with our friends in the Middle East…”

EXCLUSIVE: Censoring Textbooks For Arab Dictators

A major Western publishing house is censoring English-language textbooks for publication in a Middle Eastern dictatorship, Clarion Project has learned.
A source who works within the publishing industry who spoke to Clarion on the condition of anonymity revealed the extent of the censorship after becoming appalled at what was being asked.
“Shakespeare, Whitman and other major english language writers have to be redacted,” they said.
The country, which we cannot name, commissioned the publishing house to edit textbooks used to teach English to high school students in grades 6-12. In addition to academic alterations to fit with the curriculum, the education department of the unnamed country gave publishers a lengthy list of demands for editors to bring the educational materials, in line with the state’s official ideology.
The list of demands includes:
Changing mixed gender examples to single gender examples unless it is clear it’s between members of the same family.
Removing all references to or images of religious buildings or symbols belonging to faiths other than Islam.
Removing all instances of hand-holding except members of the same gender shaking hands or very small children.
Removing all references to the Arab Spring or revolutions in general.
Changing all references to holidays to Islamic holidays instead of non-Islamic ones.
Remove all references to sex, magic, alcohol, cigarettes, homosexuality, drugs, gambling, card games, Israel, the supernatural, aliens, nightclubs, pork products or birthdays.
The publishing house appears to have committed to making all the required alterations without protest. Although some staff are reportedly uncomfortable with the proposed changes, they need the money. As an editor in a European publishing house told the source “If they say jump, we say how high?”

It is chilling that Middle-Eastern dictatorships are able to use their financial clout to co-opt Western institutions into helping them oppress their own people. Restricting access to education in this manner and censoring so many topics is an extremely repressive tactic aimed at keeping the populace indoctrinated and loyal to the regime and to state mandated interpretations of Islam.

The Taliban in Afghanistan lashed out at the U.S. after President Donald Trump laid out plans to increase troops to defeat the Taliban and other terror groups operating in the country, reported Al Jazeera.
“If America doesn’t withdraw its troops from Afghanistan, soon Afghanistan will become another graveyard for this superpower in the 21st century,” said Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid.
Another Taliban official said Trump was continuing the “arrogant behavior” of previous U.S. presidents. “He is just wasting American soldiers. We know how to defend our country. It will not change anything. For generations, we have fought this war, we are not scared, we are fresh, and we will continue this war until our last breath,” he said, speaking to the AFP news agency.
Although Trump did not mention a number, senior White House officials said the president had already authorized sending at least 3,900 more troops to the warn-torn country.
Outlining his plan in a speech earlier this week, Trump noted there are 20 groups designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations by the U.S. State Department operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan. If the U.S. abandons Afghanistan, these groups will use the country as a launching pad to target the U.S. and destabilize the region, including nuclear-armed Pakistan.

An American and Canadian Christian delegation was assaulted by Shiite Arab militiamen in Iraq while trying to visit the Christian areas in the Nineveh Plain, reported Basnews.
The delegation was escorted by members of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), including the director of Christian affairs for the KRG’s Ministry of Religious of Endowment and Religious Affairs. They were stopped by members of the Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militia at a checkpoint between Qaraqosh and Bartila, two Christian districts in Nineveh Plain.
The North Americans came under attack and were protected by Kurdish Peshmerga forces, three of whom were wounded in the ensuing exchange of gunfire.
Intervention from the Iraqi prime minister’s office eventually calmed the situation.

In what looks like the latest deliberate car ramming in France, a 35-year-old man careened through a street in Marseilles, plowing into pedestrians at two separate bus stops, killing at least one person.

First reports say the man was known to authorities for petty crimes and has a history of mental health problems.

However, whether or not the attack proves to be an Islamist terror incident or simply a copycat crime, we have jihadis to thank for introducing to the world this horrific modus operandi.

That those with mental health issues are attracted to this type of sheer cruelty speaks to the fact that their sick imaginations have been sparked by Islamist terror.

At press time, a 40-year-old woman was reported dead and a man seriously wounded in the legs. More reports of injuries will most likely follow.

Barcelona Imam Radicalized My Sons’

The father of two of the Barcelona terrorists who were part of an Islamist terrorist cell accused the imam at the neighborhood mosque of radicalizing his sons.

“I don’t know what’s happened, I don’t know how to feel, they’re my sons but look at the evil they’ve done,” said Hechami Gasi, father of Mohamed and Omar Hychami who were shot dead in Cambrils in the early hours of Friday morning. “The imam must have put these ideas in their heads. They were good boys.”

The imam in question, Abdelbaki Es Satty, has been missing since August 15. He is believed to have been killed in an explosion in what police officers believe was an accident at a bomb-making factory run by the terror cell.

Es Satty is thought to be the mastermind behind the 12-person terror cell that was responsible for the van ramming that killed 13 on Barcelona’s famous Las Ramblas. An investigation of the house where the explosion occurred in the Spainish town of Alcanar netted 120 gas canisters.

In addition to the 13 killed in Barcelona, another woman died after being hit by a vehicle ramming in Cambrils on August 18.

Es Satty is said to be a Salafi associate of Rachid Aglif, accused and sent to jail for 18 years for his part in the 2004 train bombings in Madrid that killed 192.

Five jihadis were killed by the police following the attack with a sixth still on the run. Younes Abouyaaqoub, 22, is believed to have escaped Spain in rented vehicle – possibly to France.

In a news conference, Abouyaaqoub’s mother made an impassioned plea to her son to give himself up. “He must go to the police, he must hand himself in. He is better off in prison than being dead,” she said.

Four jihadis believed to be part of the cell are under arrest.

Police believe the cell was preparing the attacks for more than six months and the van ramming was just one of the attacks that they were planning for Barcelona.

Watch Clarion Project’s Ryan Mauro on Fox on the Salafist connection to radicalization and how 100 mosques in Spain, funded by America’s “allies” Saudi Arabia and Qatar were known to have radical imam as early as 2011, long before ISIS burst onto the scene:

The bomber who carried out the attack on the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England had input and encouragement from a U.S.-based ISIS recruiter, Newsweek reported.
The attack, which targeted concert-goers as they left the arena, killed 22 people in August 2016.
Said Azzam Mohamad Rahim, a 40-year-old American national of Jordanian descent from Dallas, was part of an online chat with the bomber, Salman Abedi, a 22-year-old British national of Libyan descent, who was seeking authorization to carry out the bombing.
During the chat, which was held on the encrypted messaging app Zello, Abedi addressed a question to a sheikh in the group (later identified as Mouner el-Aoual, 28, an ISIS jihadi in Turin, Italy).
“Sheikh, I live in Manchester, in Great Britain. I live among non-Muslims. I have found work with them. Am I allowed to kill them? Is it permitted to kill them with a bomb?” Abedi asked.
Rahim responded, “To the boy from Manchester I say, OK, kill them! Show no mercy to civilians.”
El-Aoual agreed, saying, Abedi should “fight the pagans all together.”
Rahim was arrested in the U.S. last March for making false statements to federal officers about his alleged support of ISIS.
El-Aoual was later arrested by Italian police on suspicion of extremist activities.

Video and photographic evidence of Saudi Arabia’s National Guard using Canadian-made armored vehicles to violently repress its citizenry have triggered a review of arms sales to Saudi Arabia by Ottawa. If it’s confirmed that Saudi Arabia used Canadian equipment against civilians, Canada will be in violation of its own export laws.
Videos and images circulated on social media at the end of July allegedly showed Canadian-made vehicles in action against civilians. The National Guard reportedly used the vehicles to crush anti-government protests in Awamiyah, a city in the Qatif region, the Shiite majority eastern part of the country. Military experts reportedly identified the vehicles as Gurkha RPVs made by Terradyne Armored Vehicles of London, Ontario.
The media reports prompted Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland to order a probe into Canadian arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
“We are absolutely committed to the defense of human rights and we condemn all violations of human rights,” Freeland told CBC. “We also are very clear that we expect the end users of any and all exports to abide by the terms of our export permits.”

A surreal exchange saw a Muslim activist with extremist connections accuse gay rights activists of “Islamophobia” to their faces on live TV because they campaigned against Islamist extremists who want to see all LGBT people murdered.
Activists Peter Thatchell, a veteran human rights campaigner, and Jimmy Bangash, of the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain (CEMB), were interviewed on Russia Today after protesting against the sharia-mandated death penalty for homosexuality and the treatment of gays by Muslim extremists worldwide.
What made the interview so bizarre is the allegations of bigotry made by Mohammed Shafiq, CEO of the Ramadhan Foundation, an organization with extremist links. It had on its advisory board a man named Dr. Abdullah Quick, who previously called for the death penalty for homosexuals and who called Jews “filth.” Quick later apologized for calling for the death of gays (a statement allegedly made in 2000). Now says he is a changed man.
“They’re a rampant islamophobic organization! They are responsible for promoting hate against Muslims,” Shafiq ranted against the CEMB. “You’ve adopted the narrative of the far-right and you should be ashamed of yourself.”

This fetid brown liquid is not raw sewage but the massively polluted normal drinking water provided by the Iranian regime for the Ahwazi Arab people of southwest Iran. This foul-tasting and foul-smelling brown discharge is the only source of water for drinking and bathing, with the people of the region joking grimly that they don’t drink water but “chocolate milkshake.”

Activists on social media have circulated these pictures to show what the people of Ahwaz endure on a daily basis. This has led to widespread illness and many outbreaks of disease. This is taking place while the regime in Tehran provides Iranian-only settlements in the Arab region with all the standard modern amenities including clean drinking water. With the regime damming and diverting the rivers in the Ahwaz region to provide water to other, non-Arab areas of the country, desertification and pollution of the remaining water sources are steadily worsening, with the pollution from the oil and gas industry in the area adding to this toxic environmental mix.

Tunisia is taking one step closer to full gender equality, following new proposals by President Beji Caid Essebsi. In a speech on National Women’s Day he announced the formation of a new committee to study how to achieve gender equality in all fields.
In particular he is seeking to end the Islamic inheritance system that sees women inherit half of what a man receives.
He also called for the government to allow Muslim women to marry non-Muslim men.
His calls were supported by the Diwan al-Ifta, a religious institution comprising senior scholars in charge of issuing religious edicts.
Egypt’s Al-Azhar slammed the proposals as un-Islamic.

German police arrested an Egyptian opposition journalist at Berlin’s Schoenefeld Airport acting on an Interpol arrest warrant issued by Egypt on Tuesday.
Abdulrahman Ezz was sentenced in absentia by Egyptian courts to 20 years imprisonment. He was charged with incitement to violence, attacking a police station and imprisoning and torturing people after the 2013 popularly-backed coup that saw General Sisi oust Muslim Brotherhood President Muhammed Morsi.
Supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood reportedly immediately began a campaign to release Ezz, according to Egyptian media outlet Al-Bawaba.
The Egyptian German coalition, said to be close to the Muslim Brotherhood, sent two of its members to the airport in Berlin to mediate German authorities to release Ezz. A source told Al-Bawaba that the coalition is coordinating with Amnesty and they will send a representative to the airport in Berlin.

A van plowed through crowds on a street in Barcelona, Spain on Thursday afternoon, killing 13 and injuring about 100 others in what officials are now saying was a Jihadist terror attack. The driver fled the scene and a manhunt is underway.
Police say the Fiat van used in the attack was leased to a man named Driss Oukabir, a 28-year-old Moroccan-born legal resident of the European Union. Oukabir and another suspect are in police custody. Oukabir claims that his ID papers, found in the van, were stolen by his 18-year old brother before the attack. A third suspect was arrested Friday morning in Ripoll, 65 miles from Barcelona.

KKK and the David imam
Please share this graphic with friends and colleagues and then sign the petition below as we continue our campaign against anti-Semitic Davis, California imam Ammar Shahin.
Shahin told his congregation, “Allah does not change the situation of a people until they change their own situation. The Prophet Muhammed said, ‘Judgment day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews.’”
Clarion Project covered his sermon, along with other problematic statements made by American Muslim leaders, over the last week.
Clarion Project calls on the Islamic Center of Davis to fire Imam Ammar Shahin immediately and issue a full apology for both his and their incitement to anti-Semitic violence and the offense they both have caused to the Jewish community by refusing to condemn this hate speech.

The Simon Weisenthal Center in late July 2017 asked then U.S. homeland security secretary John Kelly “to launch an immediate investigation of Imam Ammar Shahin, the imam of the Islamic Center of Davis in California, for inciting to murder Jews.”
Imam Shahin called on Allah to “liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews” saying “Oh Allah, count them one by one and annihilate them down to the very last one. Do not spare any of them.”
So where does the law stand on such sermons?
Laws on free speech and hate speech differ around the world. In the United States at this time there is no legal concept of “hate speech,” which is protected by the first amendment.
The only form of speech deemed illegal is that which is likely to incite violence imminently, even if it incites violence at some future time. This has been the case in U.S. constitutional law since 1969.

The Islamic Center of Davis, led by an extremist anti-Semitic imam that petitioners want fired, is not an anomaly. There have been many Islamist preachers in America who teach such extremism or belong to radical organizations.
Here are 5 examples:
1.Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center, Falls Church, Virginia
The mosque was founded by members of the Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas network in America and is officially affiliated with two Brotherhood fronts designated by the U.S. Justice Department as unindicted co-conspirators in the largest terrorism-financing trial in U.S. history.
A 2002 U.S. government report said the mosque is “operating as a front for Hamas operatives in the U.S.”
Dar al-Hijrah is best known for being the chosen place of worship for two of the 9/11 hijackers and the Fort Hood shooter. From 2001 to 2002, it was led by Anwar al-Awlaki, who later became a senior Al-Qaeda terrorist.
In 2013, the mosque’s imam was videotaped preaching in favor of violent jihad at a Virginia high school after school closed. The mosque’s director of outreach publicly resigned this year after the imam’s comments in favor of female genital mutilation came to light. The imam was placed on administrative leave.
2.Anjuman-e-Najmi, Farmington Hills, Michigan
After two Muslim doctors were arrested for performing female genital mutilation on about 100 girls over 12 years, this mosque was accused of paying for the procedures. The two doctors held leadership positions in the mosque.
The mosque denies involvement and says it is cooperating with the investigation.
The mosque follows the Dawoodi Bohra Islamic sect based in India where female genital mutilation is a common practice. About one million Muslims belong to the sect globally.
3.Masjid at-Taqwa, Brooklyn, NY
This mosque is led by Siraj Wahhaj, one of the most radical and popular Islamist preachers in the country. His sermons in the 1990s were ferociously anti-American, advocated violent jihad and openly advocated turning America into a theocratic caliphate. He has since softened his tone without retracting those statements, telling Muslims not to fall into the “trap” of discussing sharia (Islamic) law when “we are not there yet.”
Wahhaj has had a close relationship with the various Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas-linked groups in the U.S. He was also a friend of the “Blind Sheikh,” who was behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
The mosque came under NYPD surveillance in the years after 9/11 because of evidence of terrorist and criminal activity, including possible use of the mosque to finance terrorists. The NYPD found that the mosque has an armed “security team” that has learned how to disarm police officers. The mosque was also found to be organizing paintball events where the participants were referred to as “jihad warriors.”
