Prime Minister Netanyahu Meets Christian Lawmakers
Posted by: Staff Writer  December 3, 2013 , 3:03 pm
“For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say: ‘Peace be within thee.’
For the sake of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.” (Psalms 122:8-9)

Seven members of US congress visited Israel recently, led by Family Research Council President Tony Perkins.  The Congress members, all known for their strong Evangelical Christian ties, spent nine days touring religious sites around the country and meeting with top political leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself.  Most of the trip was spent in the Judea and Samaria region.

The trip  was sponsored by the U.S. Israel Education Association with grants from several Christian and Jewish organizations, and included Congress members Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.), Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.), Ted Poe (R-Texas) and Steve Scalise (R-La.).
Perkins told The Christian Post that the most significant aspect of the trip was meeting with Israeli officials to share their concerns regarding the nuclear agreement reached recently with Iran.  He said Israeli officials were more candid than they had ever been.

“Mr. Netanyahu, who was delayed in joining our group because he had been on the phone with President Obama, called the agreement a ‘historic mistake’ and we agree. The Israeli government does not feel Western solutions are the right solutions for Middle Eastern Solutions,” Perkins said, in reference to lifting sanctions on Iran.
The US delegation and Israeli officials agreed that the sanctions have been working.  They believe only economic sanctions have kept Iran in line until now, as well as being the only reason Iran was willing to negotiate with the US in the first place.

“These sanctions have worked,” Perkins said. “But if reducing sanctions does not work – in other words if Iran does not keep their word – then we could see military action from Israel if they believe their national security is in danger.”  PM Netanyahu has said Israel will not be bound by the six-month agreement between the US and Iran.  He was also critical of President Obama for keeping the details of the negotiations secret for so long, even from America’s closest allies.

Perkins also pointed to critics who claim the agreement is merely a stop-gap solution to enable the weakened Obama administration to delay dealing with the issue until after the next election in 2016.
Another issue addressed by the delegation was religious persecution, with delegates meeting Christian evangelical leaders in Israel.

Bishop Naim Khoury leads the First Baptist Church of Bethlehem, which is under Palestinian control.  His church has been targeted for repeated attacks, including bombings and shootings.  The Palestinian Authority has also revoked the church’s recognition, meaning it is no longer able to issue birth certificates or perform weddings or funerals that will be legally recognized.

Despite all this, Khoury still believes Israel and Jews are God’s chosen people and they have a right to their own settlements.  He and his followers strongly oppose “Palestinian liberation theology,” a political-religious ideology that promotes violence against Israeldenying the religious nature of Jewish nationalist claims.

Perkins, however, expressed his optimism in the face of this difficult situation.“Psalm 122 does not have an expiration date.  Bishop Khoury strongly believes that the promise for peace and prosperity contained in this Psalm for Israel is still possible and he’s working toward that objective.”

Amish Visitors Comes to Israel Seeking Reconciliation
Posted by: Ahuva Balofsky  December 3, 2013 , 3:05 pm

“Have we not all one father? Hath not one God created us?
Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?” (Malachi 2:10)

The Amish are typically recognizable by their traditional garb and anti-technological stance.  The group that visited Israel last week, however, is anything but typical.
Keshet, an Israeli educational tour company, brought a group of about 30 Amish Christians to Israel for their third Reconciliation Mission to Israel aimed at repairing Amish-Jewish relations in the wake of what they deem to be Amish community’s apathy at generations of Jewish suffering.  While in Israel, the group toured the country, visited sites holy to both Jews and Christians, and met with Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau, as well as members of Knesset.

The group’s mission statement says, “We, the Amish and Anabaptist people turned away from the Jewish nation, while they were in their darkest hour of need.  We hardened our hearts against them, we left them — never lifting our voices in protest against the atrocities that were committed against them. We want to publicly repent of this and acknowledge our support of Israel.”
If nothing else, their visit signifies a break from the traditional Amish community — after all, the Amish generally don’t fly in planes.  Members of the group come from various Anabaptist sects, including Amish and Mennonite, but have been shunned by their respective communities for questioning some long-standing traditions, including the ban on technology.  Many of the members have been excommunicated outright from their home communities.  “The bishop tells you, you need to not be associated with us anymore,” explained Steven Girod from Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho, whose father Ben is one of the founders of the group. “This saddens our heart, because we do want to be associated, and in our hearts we still are.”

David Lapp of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, came on the trip along with several members of his family.  He expresses the groups forgiving view of their home communities: “We feel it’s more of a misunderstanding,” said Lapp. “I feel if they’ve had the experience we’ve had over the years, it’d be more of an open flow. But if we step out of the way it’s always been done, then it’s frightening for them.”

The Times of Israel reported on the group’s meeting with Rabbi Lau.  He was moved by the group’s singing, asking them for another song.  “I want to add warmth, to add light, all my life,” said Lau, telling the group a little about Hanukkah, and explaining the lighting of the menorah. “I can’t sing at your level, but if I could do it, maybe I’d sit with you,“ he joked.

“In order for us to come to our destiny with the Lord, we need to bless our Jewish brothers,” one of the group’s leaders told the chief rabbi, as he presented him with a traditional Amish lamp. “We are commanded to pray for Jerusalem. The Lord told Abraham that those that bless you shall be blessed. We in our past and in our history have had a somewhat anti-Semitic view of Jews. And we have come to repent for that. Now we want to develop a relationship with you. We want to draw close to you.”  The speaker indicated the connection between the lamp and the lights of Hanukkah.
MK Aliza Lavie, who was in the building at the time and came when she heard the singing, said, “We need your friendship, we want your friendship.”

The group began about 20 years ago, and grew through personal networking.  Lloyd Miller, the trip’s leader and a bishop from Montana, explained, “I happened to be at the right place at the right time. We were visited by these Amish brothers, and we became friends. And just connected and began to walk together… At the time, there was nothing about reconciliation. From then, I’ve been friends with leaders. Wherever they went I went. It wasn’t a planned thing.”

Ben Girod said that when the group came together, “We understood that not only did we have our own persecuted past, from Europe, from our forefathers — there’s that suffering identity — we also realized that we have a present-day obligation to identify with the Jewish people because they have a destiny from God, and our destiny is tied to yours.”

The need for reconciliation is not limited to the Jewish people, according to Lapp.  He sees a need to connect to other communities, such as other churches of Native Americans.  “What we feel called to do is to find the good in everybody. To find the golden nugget that God has given everybody. If we meet someone we can always find something bad, we can always find someone good. And our heart is to find the good in everybody.”
“The Amish people’s hearts are in the right place, but they just don’t have the understanding yet to go there and step out,” said Miller. “If you’re a voice for truth and righteousness, you’re vulnerable, and they’re just not ready for that vulnerability yet. But their hearts are very good.
“We as a group have given up and compromised our voice, and we are now silent,” he lamented. “We need to repent for not speaking out.”

Having overseen an interim deal with Iran on its nuclear program, the Obama administration now intends to try to involve Iran in wider Middle East diplomacy, including an attempt to find a solution to the Syrian civil war, Israeli television reported Sunday night.

The report was one of a series of dramatic revelations and assessments in the Hebrew media on Sunday night, hours after the US and other world powers signed an interim agreement with Iran in Geneva.

Both of Israel’s main TV news channels also carried reports flatly stating that Israel’s military option is “off the table” for the foreseeable future. This claim was apparently based on assessments from inside Israel’s military establishment. Israel’s Channel 10 news reported that “the White House is briefing American journalists” with the same message: Israel cannot intervene militarily in Iran now that the interim deal has been signed.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly vowed Sunday to ensure Iran will not attain nuclear weapons, but privately the prime minister was said to have acknowledged that the Geneva deal has essentially sanctioned Iran as a nuclear threshold state.

Netanyahu is “extremely angry” over the terms of the deal, under which Iran will be allowed to continue low-level enrichment of uranium for at least the next six months, a Channel 2 report said. It quoted an unnamed senior official in Jerusalem, who stated: “In Geneva, [US President] Obama established Iran as a nuclear threshold state, and Israel, the prime minister has made clear, cannot live with Iran as a nuclear threshold state.” Israel, the report continued, regards the Geneva deal as “a profound failure” by the Obama administration.

However, one administration official said Sunday that no matter how furious Netanyahu is about the deal, Israel will let the US test out Iran’s intentions over the next half a year. ”Bibi will hold his nose, but he’ll let us have six months,” the official was quoted by Foreign Policy magazine as saying.

The Israel TV news reports Sunday night also claimed that the Obama administration was still misleading Israel over its newly acknowledged secret back-channel negotiations with Iran in recent months. The administration “hid the fact of the secret channel from Israel,” Channel 2 reported, even after it knew that Israeli intelligence had exposed it. Obama only reportedly told Netanyahu about the back channel less than two months ago, when they met at the White House.

Aspects of that secret channel were still being hidden, Channel 10 said. The secret talks, led by Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns, had begun earlier than the US has now admitted, and Obama intends to maintain them. It is the president who is essentially running the secret talks, the report went on, and the idea is to keep the channel open in the effort over the next few months to seal a permanent agreement with Iran.

Furthermore, Channel 10 reported, Obama intends to use the Geneva deal as the launching pad for further Middle East diplomacy with Iran as a central role. The administration intends to partner with Russia, Iran and possibly Saudi Arabia to seek a solution to the civil war that has been raging in Syria for almost three years.

As part of its efforts to heal the rift with the Israeli government and with the Saudis, the administration also intends to provide additional military and other aid to both countries, Channel 10 said.

Obama Calls Netanyahu In Attempt To Abate Anger Over Iran Deal

In a pre-scheduled phone call on Sunday, US President Barack Obama spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in order to brief him on the deal struck between the P5+1 and Iran in Geneva late Saturday night, according to The Times of Israel.

Obama alledgedly told the PM that  the US will remain committed to Israel and its safety.Obama added that the US would not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon under any circumstances, and would confer with Israel about future negotiations with Tehran over a final agreement.

“The two leaders reaffirmed their shared goal of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon,” deputy White House spokesman Josh Earnest told a press gaggle aboard Air Force One.

According to US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, Obama told Netanyahu that he wants the two sides “to begin consultations immediately regarding our efforts to negotiate a comprehensive solution.”

“The President underscored that the United States will remain firm in our commitment to Israel, which has good reason to be skeptical about Iran’s intentions,” Shapiro wrote on Facebook.

Israeli TV news reported late Sunday that Netanyahu was “extremely angry” with Obama over the deal, that he fears the international sanctions regime will now crumble, that the US had not come clean to Israel over a secret back channel of talks with Iran, and that Israel’s military option for intervening in Iran is off the table for the foreseeable future now that the interim deal is done.

“The president provided the prime minister with an update on negotiations in Geneva and underscored his strong commitment to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, which is the aim of the ongoing negotiations,” the White House said.

The report added that the two leaders agreed to “stay in touch on this issue.”
An Obama administration official who spoke to Reuters said that the phone call had been “very long,” though the official declined to provide further information about the two leader’s discussion.

This was Obama and Netanyahu’s first official discussion of the deal.

Christian Women Being Forced To Convert To Islam In Nigeria
Posted by: Staff Writer  November 24, 2013 , 4:41 pm
The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him. (Psalms 37:32)
The al-Qaida-linked Islamic group, Boko Haram, has been threatening Nigerian women to either convert to Islam or die, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Two gunmen from Boko Haram kidnapped Hajja, a 19- year-old Christian in July as she picked corn near her village in the Gwoza hills, a remote part of northeastern Nigeria where a six-month-old government offensive is struggling to contain an insurgency by Boko Haram.
“If I cried, they beat me. If I spoke, they beat me. They told me I must become a Muslim but I refused again and again,” Hajja told Reuters in an interview.
The Islamists threatened her with a knife pressed to her throat and said her options were to convert to Islam or die.
Aaron Jensen, a spokesman for the United States government’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday, “We have seen reports of forced conversion and enslavement.
The United States strongly condemns any acts of forced conversion or enslavement if true. These alleged actions violate fundamental human rights, including the right to freedom of conscience.”
David Cook, a professor of religious studies at the Houston-based Rice University, said Boko Haram’s methods are “part of a pattern you can find in a lot of groups, Salafi Jihadists, for example, in Syria.”
Tiffany Lynch, senior policy analyst at the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, told the Post by email that “Boko Haram’s stated goal is the implementation of Shari’a nationwide and in 2012 called on all Christians to leave northern Nigeria. With this goal, Boko Haram attacks churches during worship services to maximize its killing, kills individual Christians, forces Christians to convert to Islam or die, kills persons engaged in what it believes is ‘un-Islamic’ behavior, and kills Muslim critics.”
Lynch added that from January 1, 2012 through July 31, 2013, USCIRF found that Boko Haram had initiated religiously motivated attacks on 50 churches that were “bombed, burned or attacked, killing at least 366 persons.” She continued that there were 31 seperate attacks on Christians or southerners perceived to be Christian, “killing at least 166 persons.”
Lynch added that “23 targeted attacks on clerics or senior Islamic figures critical of Boko Haram” resulted in the killing of at least 60 persons.
Hajja said, “I can’t sleep when I think of being there,” about her captivity during the three month period of forced slavery.
She had watched Boko Haram members slit the throats of prisoners that were captured.

Israel Dismayed At Tepid US Response To Khamenei Screed
Posted by: Doni Kandel  November 22, 2013 , 12:34 pm
"Let the lying lips be dumb, which speak arrogantly against the righteous, with pride and contempt. (Psalms 31:19)
The United States failed to strongly condemn Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for calling Israel the “sinister, unclean rabid dog of the region.”

Jerusalem is “unpleasantly surprised” that, as of Thursday afternoon, the Obama administration had not unequivocally condemned vicious anti-Israel statements made Wednesday morning by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, senior Israeli officials told The Times of Israel.
In a speech delivered to an assembly of tens of thousands of Basij militiamen Khamenei declared that Israel was doomed to fail and characterized the “Zionist regime” as the “sinister, unclean rabid dog of the region.” He also said Israelis “cannot be called human beings.” Footage of the event showed the crowd shouting “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”
At a meeting Thursday morning with Jewish leaders in Moscow, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today’s Iran reminded him “of the dark regimes of the past that plotted against us first and then against all of humanity,” and thus had to prevented from attaining nuclear weapons. “The real Iran is what the leader of Iran, Khamenei, said yesterday,” said Netanyahu. “He called Jews ‘rabid dogs’ and said that they were not human. The public responded to him with calls of ‘Death to America! Death to Israel!’ Doesn’t this sound familiar to you? This is the real Iran! We are not confused,” said Netanyahu.
The Ayatollah’s speech came just hours before negotiations between the P5+1 and Iran were set to resume in Geneva.
According to the Jerusalem Post, US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, in an interview with CNN, Power said the remarks were “abhorrent.”
Earlier in the day, US Secretary of State John Kerry told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that “obviously we disagree with [Khamenei’s statements] profoundly. It’s inflammatory and it’s unnecessary, and I think at this moment, when we are trying to negotiate and figure out what can and can’t be achieved, the last thing we need are names back and forth,” Kerry said.

Amb. Daniel Shapiro: U.S. Will Not Agree to ‘Bad Deal’ on Iran Nuclear Program
Posted by: Staff Writer  November 21, 2013 , 5:01 pm

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel B. Shapiro, speaking Wednesday at the inaugural event of the Ruderman Program for American Jewish Studies at the University of Haifa, said the U.S. “will not squander the leverage that sanctions have given us” in the negotiations on the Iran nuclear program in Geneva.
No deal is better than a bad deal, and we will not agree to a bad deal,” Shapiro said.
Despite recent U.S.-Israel differences on the Iranian nuclear issue—with the Obama Administration urging a halt to new Iran sanctions while the diplomatic track persists, as opposed to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s call for more sanctions—the ambassador said the two countries “share an identical objective” on the issue.
“President Obama has been crystal clear in stating that he will not permit Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon, period,” Shapiro said. “And we are prepared to use all elements of our national power to ensure that we are successful.”
“Our coordination with Israel in support of this shared goal has been intensive, continuous and highly effective,” he said. “Together with many other nations, we have put in place the strongest sanctions regime in history, which has brought Iran to the negotiating table.”
The U.S. and its partners among the P5+1 countries are seeking “to test whether Iran is prepared to ensure that its nuclear program can only be used for peaceful purposes,” according to Shapiro.
“We are trying to first reach an agreement on an initial six-month phase that freezes and rolls back the Iranian program,” he said, describing the reported deal under which Iran would temporarily suspend high-grade (20 percent) uranium enrichment but would still be able to enrich to 3.5 percent. The deal reportedly does not require Iran to reduce its number of centrifuges, and lets Iran continue work on the plutonium-producing Arak heavy water reactor.
“Iran could get very limited sanctions relief during this period, while the main oil and banking sanctions that have brought them to the table would remain in place, and the pressure would increase,” Shapiro said. “With the time this gives us, we will seek to negotiate a comprehensive agreement that ensures Iran cannot acquire a nuclear weapon.”
“Our goal is clear: to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, through diplomacy and sanctions if possible, but using other means, including a military option, if necessary. We will not fail to achieve this goal,” he added.
Shapiro’s comments came at the kickoff event for the American Jewish Studies program launched in August by the Ruderman Family Foundation and the University of Haifa, the first academic program of its kind in Israel. The one-year, seven-course program surveys Jewish-American immigration history, modern foreign policy, and governmental structures, as well as gender issues and the religious makeup of U.S. Jewish communities.
“The idea is that over the course of time you have a cadre of Israelis who’ve gotten a Master’s in the American Jewish community, and that they will help Israel shape this relationship,” Jay Ruderman, the foundation’s president, has told JNS.org.

Netanyahu Promises Russian Jewish Leaders He Will Not Allow A Nuclear Iran
Posted by: Doni Kandel  November 21, 2013 , 4:58 pm

"No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their due reward from Me, saith the LORD. (Isaiah 54:17)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks during a meeting with the Russian Jewish community
Addressing a group of Russian Jewish leaders on Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised the crowd that he will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Netanyahu also told the crowd that the “true” Iran was not the one of propaganda films produced by Foreign Minister Javad Zarif smiling and speaking about a peaceful future, but rather that of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei calling Jews “rabid dogs.”
Khamenei, at a rally in Iran on Wednesday, called Israel an “illegitimate regime” led by “untouchable rabid dogs.”
“It is forbidden for Iran to have nuclear weapon,” the Prime Minister said. “And I can promise you they won’t have nuclear weapons.”
Netanyahu met with Russian President Vladimir Putin for four and a half hours on Wednesday in attempts to persuade him to take a more hardline stance against Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons. Netanyahu hopes an increase in Russian support opens up the possibility of brokering a deal with Iran similar to the one reached to disarm Syria of its chemical weapons this past September.
In addition to meeting Russian Jewish leaders, Netanyahu briefed senior Russian journalists Thursday morning. He is also scheduled to do two more media interviews and visit the new Jewish museum in Moscow before heading back to Israel late Thursday night.

Palestinian TV Airs Murderer’s Message
Posted by: Doni Kandel  November 20, 2013 , 4:39 pm
"He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house… (Psalms 101:7)

Four months before luring 20 year old IDF soldier Tomer Hazan into an Arab village and murdering him, Nidal Amar reportedly sent an encrypted message to his brother, who is in an Israeli prison for terrorist activities, via an official Palestinian Authority TV. According to The Times of Israel, the message was meant to let his brother known that Amar’s plan of kidnapping a soldier to ransom him for his brother’s release was soon to come to fruition.
According to a translation by the watchdog group Palestinian Media Watch, on May 16, the presenters of the Palestinian TV show “For You” read the following statement during a segment dedicated to messages for security prisoners held in Israel:
Before we end, we have greetings for Nour Al-Din Amar from his brother Abu Wasim [Nidal Amar] and from the family. They say to you that they are well, and that your mother is healthy again. They tell you that “the calf will soon be in the cage, and we’ll celebrate the freedom of all prisoners.”

“For You” is the most frequently watched show among Palestinian security prisoners in Israeli jails, according to Walla.
The Shin Bet said Amar’s brother was a member of the Fatah Tanzim terror group, who has been serving time in an Israeli jail since 2003 for his role in several terror attacks, including planning a suicide bombing by a female bomber that was thwarted.

Knesset Member Explains Opposition To Palestinian State In New York
Posted by: Doni Kandel  November 19, 2013 , 2:49 pm
"In that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: ‘Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates; (Genesis 15:18)
VIDEO's On this page
Speaking to author Dan Senor at the 92nd Street Y in New York on Sunday, Israeli Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett expressed his vehement opposition to the creation of a Palestinian state, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Bennett began his talk by addressing the dozen or so anti-Israel protestors from the group “All That’s Left”. Bennett pulled a small coin out of his pocket and showed it the audience saying it was from the year 66 and had the words “Freedom of Zion” written in Hebrew on it.
“I’m holding a physical coin that was found outside the Green Line, in what’s called the ‘occupied territories,’ where two Jews were probably doing business, speaking the same Hebrew I speak today, living in the same place where I work today, and they’re my direct ancestors,” he said.
“Now you tell me, can I occupy my own home?”

His question was met with raucous applause.
Bennet than reiterated his opposition to a Palestinian State. “Netanyahu is very focused on moving forward toward founding a Palestinian state in the Land of Israel, and I vehemently oppose it,” he said. “Yet I realize that his government is founded on this basis, and I joined the government.”
Bennett then gave voice to the thought bubble hanging over everyone’s heads: “I don’t think there’s much chance these negotiations will bring about peace,” he said. “I don’t think they’re going to reach a deal and neither does anyone else, neither the Palestinians nor the Israelis.”
But, he continued, “If Israel is required to concede land and kick Jews out of their houses – that I think is profoundly immoral to kick anyone out of their houses, Arabs or Israelis – but if that comes to bear, let’s go to the people.
“I said to Bibi, to the prime minister, go ahead, send in Tzipi Livni, when she goes and brings peace, we’ll talk. Let her bring peace, but based on the parameters. Now the second part is, we’re also passing a bill for a national referendum. So if Israel is required to concede land and to kick Jews out of their houses… if that comes to bear, let’s go to the people. It’s such a dramatic thing, and we are going to get this bill through over the next six weeks, it’s progressing and there’s consensus. So then I say, go bring peace, and if there is peace, we’ll go to a national referendum. If the people of Israel support it I will respect that, even though I disagree.”

Palestinian Authority Rewards Released Terrorists With $50,000 Each
"The wicked borroweth, and payeth not; but the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth. (Psalms 37:21)

The Palestinian terrorists, most of whom are convicted of murdering Israelis, released by Israel as a goodwill gesture have all been given a lump sum of at least $50,000 as well as a hefty monthly salary by the Palestinian Authority according to The Times of Israel. The longer one of the prisoners had been imprisoned the higher the monthly salary.
Those who were held for over 25 years were entitled to $50,000, in addition to a position as a deputy minister or a promotion to the rank of major-general in the security forces, both of which earn monthly wages of NIS 14,000 (nearly $4,000). Those who spent less than 25 years in Israeli prisons received the same lump sum as well as promotion to a deputy directorship in a government ministry or to the rank of brigadier-general, with a monthly wage of NIS 10,000 ($2,800) on the PA’s payroll, the report said.
According to information published in the PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida in 2011, the average monthly stipend paid by the government to family members of Palestinian prisoners stands at NIS 3,129 ($862), higher than the average salary of a Palestinian civil servant, which is NIS 2,882 ($794). Two and a half percent of the PA’s budget for salaries goes to prisoners’ families, the document indicated.
Issa Abd Rabbo, the most veteran of the prisoners released, received a $60,000 bonus, with the PA reportedly also offering to foot the bill for a wedding should he choose to marry. He was convicted of murdering two Israeli hikers south of Jerusalem in 1984, after tying them up at gunpoint and placing bags over their heads.

Mossad Allegedly Working With Saudis On Iran Attack Plan
Posted by: Doni Kandel  November 17, 2013 , 1:15 pm
"Proclaim ye this among the nations, prepare war; stir up the mighty men; let all the men of war draw near, let them come up. (Joel 4:9)

A report in the Sunday Times quoted a number of diplomatic sources that claim that the Mossad has been covertly working with Saudi Arabia to establish a contingency plan for a possible strike on Iran if negotiations between Tehran and the world powers in Geneva do not go far enough to curb their nuclear capabilities, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Both the Israeli and Saudi governments have voiced their objection to the current negotiations taking place between Iran and the P5+1 group.
According to the Times, Riyadh has already given its consent for Israel to use Saudi airspace for a potential attack on Iran.
The paper quoted a diplomatic source as saying the Saudis were willing to assist an Israeli attack by cooperating on the use of drones, rescue helicopters and tanker planes.
“Once the Geneva agreement is signed, the military option will be back on the table. The Saudis are furious and are willing to give Israel all the help it needs,” the Times quoted the source as saying.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said in an interview with French daily Le Figaro on Saturday that there is a “meeting of the minds” between Israel and the “leading states in the Arab world” on the Iran issue – “one of the few cases in memory, if not the first case in modern times.
“We all think that Iran should not be allowed to have the capacities to make nuclear weapons,” he said. “We all think that a tougher stance should be taken by the international community. We all believe that if Iran were to have nuclear weapons, this could lead to a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, making the Middle East a nuclear tinderbox.”
Saying that an Iran with nuclear arms would be the most dangerous development for the world since the mid-20th century, and stressing that the “stakes are amazing,” Netanyahu urged the world’s leaders to pay attention “when Israel and the Arabs see eye-to-eye.”
“We live here,” he said. “We know something about this region. We know a great deal about Iran and its plans. It’s worthwhile to pay attention to what we say.”
