Middle East believer sentenced to 80 lashes
A believer from the Middle East, who was arrested earlier this year, has this week been sentenced to six months in prison. He has already been in solitary confinement for the last seven weeks and in addition to his prison term he has also been sentenced to 80 lashes and a considerable fine. He is already very weak and it is questionable how he will survive this lashing.
Earlier this year, the believer described a dream he had had, while serving another term of solitary confinement. In the dream he was surrounded by many people – but while he didn't recognise any of them, they all knew him. They were hugging him and calling his name and waving. He woke up and knew he was being prayed for by many people he had never met!
The lawyer working on this case has lodged a final appeal against the ruling of 80 lashes and is hoping to exchange the lashes for an even higher fine. The case is due to go a higher court next week for ratification, and the court there could insist on the 80 lashes. The next few days are critical in determining the fate of the believer and of all those involved in backing his case.

Please pray:

1. That God will encourage and strengthen this believer so that he is able to be courageous in the face of extreme persecution.

2. For wisdom for the legal team representing this believer and that the judge who hears the case shows mercy and agrees to a reduced sentence.

3. In the same way that Pilot's wife was moved to intercede on Jesus' behalf as the result of a dream (Matthew 27:19), please pray God will intervene in a miraculous way on this believer's behalf.
